Anderson .Paak Reveals What Bruno Mars & Dr. Dre Have In Common

Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars recently united to form a new band called Silk Sonic, confirming that a new album is officially in the works. Today, the duo provided the first glimpse of said album, delivering the soulful and refreshingly smooth “Leave The Door Open” to widespread early acclaim. Following the big single release, the pair caught up with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 to discuss their experience creating a full-length project together.

Revealing that the idea to join forces originally stemmed from a productive and notably inebriated studio session, they soon found that they had plenty of ideas worth exploring. For both parties, the ability to actually collaborate as musicians was a massive plus. “These days, you get so many collaborations where a lot of it’s done through email, you never meet the person, it’s texts,” explains .Paak. “It’s like a play. It’s all this sh-t and people don’t understand, when you get in and you can jam with someone and other artists that could hold it down and you’re bouncing, that’s different. That’s the difference and you’re really creating a groove from scratch.”

When asked about his experiences working with .Paak, Mars explained that the Aftermath melodist continuously found new ways to inspire. “Anderson came into the studio and unlocked something in my brain that I’ve never used before,” he explains. “That’s what you hope. That’s how inspiration happens, you know? Even just hearing him talk, being a songwriter, sometimes you hear things in your voice, but working with other artists and you hear the way they talk. All of a sudden you start thinking differently.”

Anderson .Paak also praised Mars’ perfectionism, a quality he is no stranger to, having worked extensively with Dr. Dre on his last two albums Oxnard and Ventura. “A lot of people do collabs these days, but I don’t think they understand what it’s like to go in and get work with someone that’s challenging everything,” he reflects. “Like, did we do this right? Did we do this right? Should we try this right? The last dude that pushed me like that was Dre, you know? And [Bruno] was the same way. He just had this, like, ‘I know what you’re used to doing, but I’m a producer too.’ You know, this dude is a producer. He’s one of the best producers I know, from music to vocally, anything.”

BlueBucksClan Links Up With Lil Yachty For “Last Minute”

BlueBucksClan, the Los Angeles rap duo known for its inimitable cadences and inclusion of straight-faced comedy into its lyrics, is back today with the second single from their forthcoming mixtape Clan Virus 2. Since emerging as a group in 2019, BlueBucksClan members DJ and Jeeezy have been building a catalog that’s just as consistent as it is quirky. Now, ahead of the release of Clan Virus 2, the duo is welcoming Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty into their unique sonic fold on “Last Minute.”

Although DJ and Jeeezy don’t typically do collaborations outside of BlueBucksClan, “Last Minute” definitely illustrates how easily they work with other artists. Lil Yachty manages to adopt the crew’s unique flow as well as their humorous flexes, and he delivers two eccentric verses throughout the song’s two-minute runtime, with pop-culture references to The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody and fellow rapper Ski Mask The Slump God. “Last Minute” follows February’s equally infectious “Horace Grant” and properly sets listeners up for the impending release of Clan Virus 2.

Are you feeling BlueBucksClan and Lil Yachty’s unique performance on “Last Minute?”

Quotable Lyrics

Whatchu mean who I’m with? B*tch, you too nosey
Run around the lobby like my brother first name Cody
F*ck it, run around the lobby like Mr. Mosby
Made another O and n*gga I don’t even wear Oakleys
Ridin’ round with a ski mask like my name is Stokely

Eminem Responds To “Cancellation” With “Tone Deaf” Video

When it comes to futile tasks, attempting to cancel one of the biggest superstars in the world may very well be among the top contenders. And yet a half-hearted campaign recently surfaced on TikTok, during which a band of ambitious and likely bored Gen-Zers attempted to bring down Eminem once and for all. Alas, they quickly realized that Em has been fielding such attempts for decades now, stretching as far back to when The Marshall Mathers LP kicked off with “Kill You.” He’s long become used to the naysayers.

In an apparent response to the viral movement, Eminem came through to unleash some defiant new visuals for his Music To Be Murdered By track “Tone Deaf.” Featuring lyrics that directly focus on the topic of cancellation, the timing is too serendipitous to ignore. As is his caption. “I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey, ’cause they won’t stop until they cancel me,” he raps, all but daring his opponents to continue their efforts.

Though the clip is only an animated lyric video, one has to once if it foreshadows a more substantial clip to come — after all, there are plenty of vivid images found throughout that would feel right at home in an Eminem video. Perhaps he oughta get Cole Bennett on the phone and get to storyboarding. In the meantime, check out the lyric video for “Tone Deaf” right here.

Big Sean’s “Deep Reverence” Video Is A Tribute To Nipsey Hussle

Released following the heartbreaking death of Los Angeles rap legend Nipsey Hussle, Big Sean’s “Deep Reverence” serves as a reminder of everything that made Nipsey so special. His feature verse stands out on the song, leading the way for Big Sean to reflect on his battle with depression and anxiety, his family, the status of his relationship with Kendrick Lamar, and more. He also references Nipsey’s death in his verse. The song is a favorite from Detroit 2 for obvious reasons and, recently, fans have been requesting a music video for it.

Earlier today, Big Sean revealed that he would be dropping a video for “Deep Reverence” in a matter of hours and it has finally arrived after several months.

It starts off with Big Sean riding in a hydraulics-equipped whip with Snoop Dogg, rolling through the streets of L.A. As Nipsey’s verse begins, we see a painting of the late rapper in different spots across his neighborhood. Sean returns when Hussle’s verse is over, crouching and praying on a basketball court, which features a large tribute to Nip. The Detroit-based superstar continues by rapping in front of other Nipsey murals, hanging out with the legend Snoop, and enjoying the city.

6 Dogs Posthumously Releases “Beach House” With RIZ LA VIE

6 Dogs was one of the strongest forces in Atlanta’s underground rap scene, delivering some standout songs throughout his young career. “Faygo Dreams” has surpassed over 100 million streams on Spotify and it doesn’t seem like it will be stopping anytime soon. There was just something so special about 6 Dogs, which makes the end of his story all the more tragic.

The rapper took his own life earlier this year, just weeks before he was set to release his latest studio album. At the time of his death, 6 Dogs’ album RONALD, titled after his given name, was fully complete along with a schedule of what to release as singles and when. This project is exactly as 6 Dogs envisioned it. The latest single to arrive from RONALD is the catchy “Beach House” with a feature from RIZ LA VIE.

The song was released alongside a music video, which shows Chase enjoying life on the beach with RIZ LA VIE. His lyrics are very relatable, especially right now, as he says, “I need a vacation, I been in the house.” According to his team, this was Chase’s favorite song on the album.

6 Dogs Forever. Listen to the new single below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Leave and don’t come back, road trip from myself, okay
Now I’m countin’ racks, now I ain’t lookin’ back, okay

Count up with my brothers, we some big stunters
