New Kanye West Documentary Reportedly Hitting Theaters Next Year

After the jeen-yuhs documentary on Netflix and various other visual projects, it seems like Kanye West has yet another documentary in the works on his magnanimous life and career. Moreover, it’s reportedly titled In Whose Name? according to Variety, although we advise readers to take this with a grain of salt as it’s all early information. Nevertheless, it’s reportedly helmed by Nicolas Ballesteros and is planned to release in theaters in 2025. A promo reel for the film will reportedly drop on November 7 via a screening at the American Film Market. We also got the first image from the doc from Goodfellas and Utopia, who will reportedly take care of the promo reel screening.

“With a billion-dollar budget and a commitment to truth, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, invites 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros armed with an iPhone on a six-year journey revealing unfiltered aspects of celebrity life which confront the provocative opinions, grand visions and bold contrarianism that defined him as the world’s most controversial artist,” the doc’s synopsis reportedly reads. “The film follows Ye’s ascent to becoming the richest Black man in American history while uncovering why the superstar risked everything he had built in the name of freedom. Examining the culture that birthed the star, ‘In Whose Name?’ explores the overlapping influences of corporate exploitation, racial complexities and psychological struggles inherent in the American dream.”

Furthermore, the project reportedly filmed over the last six years, boasting never-before-seen footage while promising to “offer a unique and cinematic perspective on Ye’s public transformation.” According to reports, the Kanye West doc is in post-production and enlisted Ballesteros as producer along with Jack M. Russel and Shy Ranje as co-producers. Justin Staple is the co-executive producer of In Whose Name? and David Bullock is its associate producer.

“We’re thrilled to present ‘In Whose Name?’ at AFM,” Marie Zeniter (V.P. of sales at Utopia) and Eva Diederix (head of sales at Goodfellas) reportedly stated. “This powerful documentary offers an unfiltered view without narration, it invites audiences to draw their own conclusions on themes of fame, religion and power. We believe audiences globally deserve the chance to witness how one of the world’s most influential figures navigates the complexities and contradictions of celebrity.” In an alleged text message exchange with Ballesteros, Ye said the following of the doc according to Ballesteros’ recent Instagram post: “That doc was very deep. It was like being dead and looking back on my life.”

Westside Gunn Returns To Form On DJ Drama-Assisted Album “Still Praying”

Westside Gunn really doesn’t have much to prove anymore at this stage of his career. Many already respect his unconscious work ethic and craftsmanship and the length at which he’s done so. However, it is fair to argue that his quality has seen a dip as of late. He’s definitely has had his hits since the turn of the 2020’s decade such as 10. But in just 24 hours, his fans are back on the bandwagon so to speak. The Flygod dropped a bombshell last week when he said he was going to be dropping twice in seven days. 11, part of the Hitler Wears Hermes series, got things started on Halloween and we must say it was a tremendous opening set.

But the magic didn’t run out on those five tracks because Westside Gunn and DJ Drama cooked up something equally special with Still Praying. This the third album within the Pray for collection, and it’s arguably the best one yet. This offering takes things back to the classic WSG era where he hopped on dusty yet luxurious boom bap beats. As a curator, he’s been pretty underrated. But with Still Praying, it’s hard to say that because the instrumentals are extremely layered and textured. They will put you in a trance more often than not. We feel Westside is back, so do the fans, and we think you will agree with the masses once you spin it.

Metro Boomin Responds To Sexual Battery & Sexual Assault Allegations

Metro Boomin has reportedly broken his silence on the lawsuit against him via a statement to Billboard from his lawyer. For those unaware, he received a suit in Los Angeles court from a woman alleging battery and sexual battery stemming from a 2016 incident in which he allegedly sexually assaulted her and impregnated her. Per Billboard and TMZ, plaintiff Vanessa LeMaistre claims that she visited the producer’s studio in September of that year, took a shot of alcohol with half a Xanax pill, and blacked out. Then, she alleges, he sexually assaulted her, and she allegedly got an abortion in November after learning that she was pregnant.

Not only that, but Vanessa LeMaistre alleges that Metro Boomin indirectly referenced this alleged incident on his 21 Savage and Offset collab project from 2017, Without Warning, specifically the track “Rap Saved Me.” “She took a Xanny, then she fainted / I’m from the gutter, ain’t no changing / From the gutter, rap saved me / She drive me crazy, have my baby,” 21 spits on the chorus. Even though Metro himself doesn’t rap this and it’s unclear who wrote the lines, they are still allegedly a source of “further trauma” for her.

“These are false accusations,” Metro Boomin’s attorney Lawrence Hinkle III reportedly stated to Billboard concerning these sexual assault allegations. “Mr. Wayne refused to pay her months ago, and he refuses to pay her now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a claim for malicious prosecution once he prevails.” Vanessa LeMaistre claims that she met him during an emotional time in her life shortly after her 9-month-old son passed away. They allegedly met in Las Vegas, which led the 21 Savage collaborator to allegedly invite her to his Los Angeles studio in September of 2016.

In addition, LeMaistre allegs that Metro Boomin was ingesting a lot of codeine before she blacked out on a couch. She alleges that she woke up on a bed, where he was non-consensually performing oral sex on top of her. The next morning, LeMaistre alleges that the 2024 rap beef participant told her to leave his hotel room. As for the pregnancy, she alleges that it was Metro who impregnated her because she hadn’t had sex with anyone else.

Metro Boomin Is Being Sued For Sexual Battery By A Woman Who Says He Referenced The 2016 Incident In A Song

Metro Boomin has been sued for battery and sexual battery in Los Angeles court by a woman who says he raped her in 2016. According to Billboard, Vanessa LeMaistre, the plaintiff, says that she visited Metro’s studio in September, where she took a shot of alcohol and a Xanax pill and blacked out; after which, the producer allegedly took advantage of her. After the incident, she says learned she was pregnant, getting an abortion in November that year.

She also claims that the incident was referenced on Metro’s 2017 collaborative album Without Warning with 21 Savage and Offset on the song “Rap Saved Me.” On the chorus of the track, the two rappers recite the lines: “She took a Xanny, then she fainted / I’m from the gutter, ain’t no changing / From the gutter, rap saved me / She drive me crazy, have my baby.” Although Metro does not rap on the song and the authorship of those lines is unclear, LeMaistre says that hearing the raps “caused further trauma.”

Metro denied the accusations through his attorney, Lawrence Hinkle II, who told Billboard, “These are false accusations. Mr. Wayne refused to pay her months ago, and he refuses to pay her now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a claim for malicious prosecution once he prevails.”

The producer was involved in a minor controversy earlier this year after social media users resurfaced questionable tweets from his account amid his ongoing feud with Drake.

Dasha Talks Masterminding Her Viral TikTok Hit For Uproxx’s ‘How I Blew Up’

When we think of an overnight success, TikTok takeovers and viral dance videos come to mind. Country breakout Dasha has those — her breakup banger “Austin” put everyone’s For You Page in a chokehold just a few months ago — but her chart-topping ascension has a few plot twists you might not expect.

In the latest episode of How I Blew Up, the California native and Nashville transplant maps out her weird and winding journey to the stage. It’s a story that starts with a childhood poetry contest entry before getting sidetracked by a pandemic, a genre switch-up, and a messy ex.

“It’s always been about songwriting for me,” she says, “It’s always been about three chords and the truth.”

Learning guitar at a young age, studying everything from opera to improv, Dasha’s endgame has always been music, but when Covid hit in 2020, she dropped oout of college, ditching the Zoom classes she’d been taking as a songwriting major to get some more real life experience. In LA, she was labeled a pop star, a designation that just didn’t sit right with her lyrical soul. “I felt almost icky,” she recalls of dropping her first album, an alt-pop entry that dropped in early 2023. “This is not me. I’m going back to my roots. I’m going back to country music.”

A genre switch, a cross-country move, and one masterfully-planned social media roll-out later, Dasha is now gracing late night talk shows and performing at music festivals like Austin City Limits. Raw, vulnerable, and fearless in her songwriting, her debut country album, What Happens Now, effortlessly blends her natural talent for penning a killer hooks with playful melodies that merge her two worlds, creating a brand of contemporary country that could convince almost anyone to dust off their boots and attempt her TikTok patented line dance.

Check out the full video above for more of Dasha’s story.

Young Thug’s Father Is Unhappy With Son’s Ban From Metro Atlanta Following Prison Release

On Thursday, Young Thug walked free after taking a plea deal. The deal came after negotiations with the prosecution fell through, and sentencing was left in the hands of Judge Paige Reese Whitaker. He pleaded guilty to several charges, including gang involvement and weapons and drug offenses. Judge Whittaker sentenced Thug to 40 years, with the first five years served in prison commuted by time served. She also gave him 15 years of probation and thousands of dollars in fines. Additionally, he is barred from the metro Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his probation, except in special cases. He must perform one hundred hours of community service every year of his probation. He must also deliver four yearly presentations on the negatives of gang and gun violence.

Some terms of Young Thug’s release did not sit well with Thug’s father, Jeffery Williams Sr.. When asked by reporters outside of the courthouse for his thoughts, specifically about his son being banned from the metro Atlanta area for the next decade, Williams made his displeasure clear. “I’m totally against that, because this is where he’s from,” he said. “And to have a district attorney take that away from him that isn’t a resident from here. She’s from another state, and to see her take a man away from where he’s from, to have to go live somewhere else? That’s offensive to me.”

Jeffery Williams Sr. gave additional thoughts on the outcome of the case. He said he would have preferred to see Young Thug continue to fight the case, but felt “great” that his son was coming home. He also expressed that he was looking forward to hearing Thug come back to music after some time away. Another term of Thug’s release was that he had to change his lyrical focus (i.e. no more “gun talk”). Williams Sr. hopes he doesn’t, saying it would be “sad” if he did.

Now that Thugger is free, he can get back to doing what he loves: making music. Earlier in October, Thug posted on X (formerly Twitter) about Future, Drake, and Metro Boomin, hopeful that the three can work through their strained friendship. Future reposted Thug’s call for peace, suggesting that he may be open to working things out with Drake after he and Metro collaborated on the highly publicized “diss album,” We Don’t Trust You. Regardless of how that goes, fans have been anticipating Thug’s own solo comeback for years. Considering Thug’s prolific output, his grand return to music could be imminent.
