DJ Hed Praises Drake And Shocks Kendrick Lamar Fans & Haters In The Process

DJ Hed might’ve played at “The Pop Out,” thus picking a firm side in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, but he doesn’t only have negative things to say about the Toronto superstar. Moreover, he recently gave him some due flowers on HipHopDX‘s The Bigger Picture podcast with Elliott Wilson. As you can see in the clip below, the @djakademikstv caption for this clip is a pretty pro-Drizzy and anti-K.Dot one, which makes sense given Akademiks’ current beef with Hed. Nevertheless, the California native thinks that The Boy does deserve a lot of credit for his hip-hop contributions, despite the picture that Kendrick painted in his diss tracks.

“You know what?” DJ Hed’s remarks began on The Bigger Picture. “Thank you. Thank you, Drake, [for] what you’ve done to the ecosystem. We appreciate you. No, I’m not even throwing shade. Drake has done more for hip-hop than a lot of people give him credit for. ‘Cause he’s actively participated in the culture the whole time. There’s credit to be owed for that, you know what I’m saying? He also used his platform to benefit others outside of himself,” he concluded, with Jeremy Hecht asserting that “he has a family tree.”

A post shared by Akademiks TV (@djakademikstv)

This seems to be what Drake himself is trying to prove through his “100 GIGS” content drops, showing off his connection to the rap game over the past decade-plus. His combative new material hints at him wanting a “Game 2” with Kendrick Lamar, although we don’t know exactly what this “game” will look like. Will they have a sales battle for their next albums, or will it be another lyrical back-and-forth? Will they actually go at each other again or does Aubrey want to focus on winning “the long game” by staying as the top dog in the industry?

These are all big questions, and ones that DJ Hed himself doesn’t want to answer just yet. Furthermore, the whole reason why he clashed with DJ Akademiks is because he shut down Ak’s report that Kendrick Lamar will drop again soon. No matter what he or Drake choose to do next, it’s clear that this conversation is much less black-and-white than what many fans assume.

Sean Kingston Owes Luxury Jeweler $916K After Ignoring Watch Lawsuit

Sean Kingston has found himself at the center of various legal issues as of late. Recently, one more was even added to his list. According to Baller Alert, the performer was sued by the luxury jeweler Dream Watch back in June. The company claims that he contacted them to express interest in two watches, a Richard Mille Model RM 65.01 Automatic and a Patek Philippe Calibre.

Allegedly, he agreed to pay for them both at the time, which added up to roughly $912K. The company even sent a rep from Malaysia to Kingston’s LA home that year to inspect the watches. Allegedly, he promised to wire the payment right away. Unfortunately, however, Dream Watch accuses him of failing to follow through with his end of the deal and eventually ghosting them.

Sean Kingston Accused Of Failing To Pay For Luxury Watches

They allege that Kingston proceeded to make various excuses, even promising that his mother would send the money, but ultimately they were left with nothing. Initially, the company asked for $1,054,107 in damages. Last week, the artist was ordered to pay a $916K default judgment, because he reportedly ignored the lawsuit altogether. The news arrives shortly after Kingston and his mother Janice Turner were arrested for alleged fraud. This followed a raid of his Florida home, and he was later released on a $100K bond. They pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges earlier this month, and are seeking a jury trial.

The duo is accused of having “unjustly enriched themselves by falsely representing that they had executed bank wire or other monetary payment transfers as payment for vehicles, jewelry, and other goods.” What do you think of Sean Kingston getting hit with a huge judgment for ignoring a lawsuit from a luxury jeweler? Kendrick Lamar Scores Yet Another “Not Like Us” Milestone As Drake Tries To “Win Game 2”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” continues to keep up some momentum, even if many Drake fans and some haters alike are already tired of it. Moreover, it’s now officially eligible for five-times Platinum certification, as it has now sold over 5 million units in the United States alone. This is very impressive considering that the song has only been out for almost four months, but not surprising at all when you consider the massive impact of the Drake battle. Pretty much everyone agrees that, for better or worse, it was the song of the summer. And it will probably continue to shine throughout the rest of 2024.

Furthermore, this is partly due to the fact that Drake wants to “win Game 2,” as he stated on his IG burner account. We still don’t know if this actually means a full second battle with Kendrick Lamar, as his lyrical material as of late definitely references his various beefs this year. The more likely scenario is that the 6ix God will target his other opponents and try to win “the long game” with continued commercial and critical success.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Sells Over 5 Million Units

Nevertheless, we doubt that Kendrick Lamar will stay quiet for long, despite DJ Hed pushing back on new album speculation. Maybe it’s not a full-on project, but we can’t imagine that he won’t follow up this material with something big either this year or the next. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, but considering the success of “Not Like Us,” it sounds like more of just a no-brainer business move. Yet K.Dot’s never been one to overtly succumb to commercial pressures, or to release music just for the sake of it.

As such, we have to be patient and see what he planned for his next move, as well as whether or not he will revisit Drake. Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar also got some unrelated commercial achievements under his belt this year, such as the Diamond certification of “goosebumps” with Travis Scott. But no matter what goes down with this beef in the near future, the status of “Not Like Us” is one that fans can’t deny.

Cardi B & Offset Reunite At Their Son Wave’s Birthday Party Amid Divorce

Cardi B and Offset may be going through what seems like a final breakup now, but they can still come together for special occasions. Moreover, they just linked up at their son Wave’s third birthday party, and you can check out some more footage of their interactions by clicking the “Via” link further down below. It seems like they had a great time at the shindig, dancing with Wave and keeping things pretty amicable. Throughout their turbulent relationship history, it seems like they’ve always been able to keep things civil despite whatever drama went on between them, and at least put up a united front for the family.

Elsewhere, both artists are dealing with some interesting career developments at the moment, with Cardi B’s joke about her record label feeling like a prison not landing in the best way with some hopeful fans. “The fact that I made a little joke about the studio because I been mixing and mastering about 40-50 songs and y’all turned that into I hate creating is crazy,” she tweeted. “This why artists don’t interact anymore cuz y’all will take one little joke and stretch it wider than y’all a**holes. God forbid I make a little sarcastic jokey jokey about motherhood y’all gonna claim I hate my kids and call cps…dweebs.”

Cardi B & Offset At Wave’s Birthday

Apart from Cardi B, Offset is also working on material of his own, although he seems to be taking it easy these days. The last update we got on their divorce was confirmation that she doesn’t live in Atlanta anymore, and hasn’t for most of their relationship. “I don’t live in Atlanta, I have a house in Atlanta,” she said on IG Live. “I only go to Atlanta like three or four times a year. And probably I go for a week, maybe less. I tried to move to Atlanta in 2018 and I lived there for like six months. And I hated it. I don’t have not one friend in Atlanta, and I don’t have not even one family member in Atlanta. So I just don’t like Atlanta.”

Meanwhile, with another baby on the way, hopefully Cardi B and Offset can set their split up amicably and effectively beforehand. We’re sure that this won’t be the last we see from them, though. After all, they have “broken up” plenty of times in the past. While this seems like the final straw, we’re sure it doesn’t mean they will be sworn enemies for the foreseeable future.

Today In Hip Hop History: Fat Joe Dropped His Third LP ‘Don Cartagena’ 26 Years Ago

On this date in 1998, Terror Squad general Fat Joe released his third full length album Don Cartagena on the Atlantic/Big Beat/Terror Squad imprint.

On his first “official” release of Terror Squad as a crew and label, Fat Joe garnered the support from his then TS crew Armageddon, Triple Seis, Cuban Link and new recruit standout Big Punisher to pull together a superstar-laden album that would catapult TS to an equal level of success. With Pun’s almost overnight stardom from the smash single “Still Not A Player”, it gave Joe the leeway to bring in the rest of the crew sans Remy Ma, who was in Bedford Hill Correctional Facility. Singles such as “Bet Ya Man Can’t (Triz)” and “The Hidden Hand” left fans looking for that Terror Squad album with the original cast members, but internal strife only allowed those tracks to bring those thoughts into fruition. The real album feature was of course the Ski-produced “John Blaze”, which featured Nas, Jadakiss, Raekwon and Pun, is still considered one of the greatest joint tracks ever laid.

The album’s commercial success reflected the response from the fans, being Joe’s first top ten Billboard 200 release, grabbing a A- from EW and selling 100,000 in its first week was right in line of the thinking of The Don. Within a month, Don Cartagena was certified gold by the RIAA.

Salute to Joe, Pun(RIP), the entire original Terror Squad, Just Blaze, Dame Grease, Preemo and everyone else involved in the making of this Hip Hop classic!

JAY-Z And Michael Jackson’s First Meeting Stood Out To Rodney Jerkins For This Reason

JAY-Z was apparently uniquely “humble” when he met Michael Jackson for the first time. Rodney Jerkins, who produced much of the legendary singer’s 2001 album Invincible, recently detailed how he and JAY met for the first time during an interview with The Almanac of Rap. After the meeting, JAY eventually brought Jackson out at Summer Jam 2001 for an iconic performance.

“You remember when Michael was brought up onstage by JAY-Z?” Jerkins said, as caught by HipHopDX. “Who do you think introduced JAY-Z to Michael? So I get the call from my man Big Chuck, who’s from Brooklyn, and Big Jon [Platt], the publisher — he’s now the CEO of Sony/ATV. And they were like, ‘Yo, JAY really want[s] to meet Michael. Can you make that happen?’ I was like, ‘I got you.’ So I brought him up to the studio, took him to meet Michael. That was the most humble I ever seen JAY-Z in my life… I know JAY to be so cool, and you could tell it was a different thing when he got with Mike.”

JAY bringing out Michael Jackson at Summer Jam recently resurfaced in the headlines after Nicki Minaj revealed it was the first concert she had ever been to during an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, earlier this year. “Many, many years ago… and Michael Jackson came out. Yes,” she said at the time. “He was a surprise guest on JAY-Z’s set. He didn’t perform, he came out of this box and the people went crazy.”

Memphis Bleek also reflected on the set during an appearance on Drink Champs, last year. Check out Jerkins’ latest comments on it below. Be on the lookout for further updates on Rodney Jerkins as well as JAY-Z on HotNewHipHop.
