Fans have been waiting for a new album from Cardi B since her 2018 debut Invasion Of Privacy. It looks like they might finally get it this soon, as Cardi has once again indicated.

On September 2, Cardi shared a tweet saying she’s sold over half a million album units in the US this year, despite Invasion Of Privacy being her only album. Cardi added, “Album still sellin like good quality p*ssy ….OKAY OKAY let me stop playing and drop this second album.”

She did a 180 a couple months later, though, when she wrote, “I wanna say this to Bardi gang or anybody who’s just a fan of my music or even my craziness. I have my good days and my bad days but you know what, whether it’s good or bad I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album..Sometimes I get a little aggressive because yall know I don’t like to be told what to do but I promise you it’s coming THIS YEAR. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down [heart emoji] I love yall.”

Ralo Insists He Didn’t Mean To Diss Boosie Badazz Amid Heated Back And Forth

Ralo says that he meant no disrespect when he remarked that he doesn’t want to be “on stage like Boosie [Badazz]” when he’s in his 40s and 50s. The remark, which he made in a viral clip on social media, sent Boosie on a tirade on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night. Speaking about the situation on Instagram Live, Ralo attempted to clarify what he meant.

“When I get that age, I want to be worshiping my Lord,” he asserted. “I want to be deep involved in my religion and in my community.” Ralo explained that it’s perfectly acceptable for “the G.O.A.T.s” of hip-hop to still perform as they get older, but he’s not as passionate about his rap career. He also claimed to have helped Boosie out of financial trouble in the past. “You sent your girlfriend over there to get some money,” he added. “Not for no features, not for no verses, just because you needed it.”

You ah old man and should be of great honor to get a understanding with us youngsters before we crash out. You can’t be playing wit no n***a like that while he in jail and think sh*t ok.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Ralo and Boosie Badazz on HotNewHipHop.

Drakeo The Ruler Wrongful Death Lawsuit Receives Frustrating Update

The West Coast and the hip-hop world in general lost a true legend in Drakeo the Ruler back in 2021. If you remember, he was tragically stabbed backstage at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. event. Specifically, the festival took place at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, very close to the Los Angeles Coliseum. That’s where the USC Trojans play. So, because of their proximity to that 2021 show, they were included in the wrongful death lawsuit.

Live Nation and others were also included in the paperwork, and the former tried to file a motion to dismiss their involvement in 2023. However, the entertainment company is not out of the woods, as the judge ruled against that. Now, according to AllHipHop, USC is also trying to wiggle their way out of the suit as of August 29. The judge overlooking this case, Judge Kerry Bensinger, is already lined up to consider the motion at a hearing on November 18.

Drakeo The Ruler’s Case Remains Unsolved

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA – DECEMBER 12: Rapper Drakeo the Ruler performs onstage during Rolling Loud at NOS Events Center on December 12, 2021 in San Bernardino, California. (Photo by Scott Dudelson/Getty Images)

The university had a few statements trying to prove that they aren’t culpable in any way. “The backstage area where [Drakeo] was attacked was not a part of the Coliseum property, the Sports Arena property or any property leased or controlled by USC”. Later, university lawyers added, “USC was not involved in the production of the music festival itself. It was not involved in selecting the performers, setting the performance schedule or determining how many all-access passes any artist would be allocated”.

Overall, it’s extremely saddening to discover yet another setback. Hopefully, Drakeo’s family will get some sort of justice sooner than later. What are your thoughts on this wrongful death lawsuit update in the Drakeo the Ruler case? Do you think the court will be able to come up with a result before the end of the year? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drakeo the Ruler. KRS-One Calls for Emcees to Receive Their Flowers While They Can Still Smell Them

krs

KRS-One, a towering figure in hip-hop with a reputation for being unapologetically outspoken, has once again made waves with his candid critique of the genre he helped shape. During a recent appearance on 97.9 The Box, the Boogie Down Productions frontman took aim at a troubling trend in hip-hop: the elevation of artists to legendary status only after they’ve passed away.

The conversation was sparked by the death of rapper and radio personality Fatman Scoop, who passed away on August 30. KRS-One, while praising Scoop, lamented the fact that such recognition often comes too late. “It’s a shame we’re talking about him in this way,” KRS-One said. “Hip-hop gotta stop doing that. Only when dudes pass, that’s when they get on.”

KRS-One’s comments reflect a broader frustration with how the culture often overlooks talent during an artist’s lifetime, only to celebrate them posthumously. “We should’ve been looking at Fatman Scoop when his career was blowing up,” he continued, noting that Scoop never received the radio play or recognition he deserved while he was alive. This pattern, according to KRS-One, is a significant issue in the hip-hop community.

When asked by the interviewer whether other genres honor their deceased artists more appropriately, KRS-One didn’t hold back. “Other genres suck,” he remarked bluntly. “We don’t give a fck about them. Hip-hop runs sht.” For KRS-One, hip-hop, as the most influential genre in contemporary music, should set the standard for how artists are appreciated and remembered.

This isn’t the first time KRS-One has voiced his concerns about the direction of modern hip-hop. During a 2023 panel at the Essence Festival, he shocked the audience by labeling modern rappers as “traitors” to the genre’s original intent. “What people call rap or hip-hop today is a disgrace to our culture,” he declared. “An absolute betrayal, disrespect, and a disgrace… If you know what original hip-hop is all about and you choose to do the opposite, you a traitor.”

While KRS-One has shown respect for contemporary artists like Kendrick Lamar, it’s clear that he believes hip-hop has strayed too far from its roots. His call to action is a reminder to fans and the industry alike: appreciate the talent in front of you before it’s too late. For KRS-One, the time to give artists their flowers is now, while they can still smell them.

Today In Hip Hop History: Poor Righteous Teachers Dropped Their ‘Pure Poverty’ LP 33 Years Ago

prtpurepoverty

On this date in 1991, Trentonians Wise Intelligent, Culture Freedom and DJ Father Shaheed followed up their debut album Holy Intellect with their sophomore smash Pure Poverty, which was released under Profile Records.

Produced primarily by NJ producer Toney Dofat aka Tony D, the 13 track full length studio effort didn’t receive the mainstream success as did its predecessor, however, marketing dollars for conscious artists became less available for conscious artists and more available for “gangsta rap” artists such as DJ Quik whose debut album Quik Is The Name went gold in four months on the same label.

Sure shot singles from PRT’s second album include “Shakiyla”, an ode to the everyday Black woman, their own rendition of the 5% Nation’s national anthem “The Enlightener”, which they entitled “The Nation’s Anthem” and the mathematically saturated “Methods Of Dropin’ Mental”.

Salute to Wise, Culture, Tony D and a supreme RIP salute to Father Shaheed, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2014 at the age of 45. The Hip Hop world will never forget this timeless gem!

Red Bull SoundClash Returns To U.S. With Rising Stars DannyLux and Tornillo

unnamed 42

Red Bull unveils full details of the anticipated U.S. return of Red Bull SoundClash, the unique live concert experience featuring two artists competing across opposite stages, with the audience deciding the winner. This November, Red Bull will bring fans a Spanish-language SoundClash event series making stops in Los Angeles and Chicago, two cities synonymous with rich Mexican culture and community. Headlined by Chicano singer-songwriter DannyLux vs. Mexican MC Tornillo, Red Bull SoundClash marks the artists first-ever live collaboration in which they will reprise iconic hits, deliver unexpected covers, and celebrate the evolution of Mexican music and cumbia.

Red Bull SoundClash is a once-in-a-lifetime live musical experience which sees artists pushed to their creative, collaborative, and improvisational limits across multiple performance rounds. With each artist owning a stage on opposite sides of the venue, the distinctive live set-up challenges artists to engage the fans and earn the loudest crowd reaction after each round. Since it was first held in 2006, there have been 80+ Red Bull SoundClash events worldwide featuring artists like Danny BrownGary Clark Jr., Snoop DoggLudacrisRico Nasty and Erykah Badu.

Mexican-American artist DannyLux was just a high school senior when he landed the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Songwriters Chart after penning “Jugaste y Sufrí,” which resulted in a record deal with Warner Music Latin. His trademark sound of moody guitar ballads — named “sad sierreño” a genre that was growing in popularity at the time – has catapulted the 20-year-old artist to music’s biggest stages like Coachella, SXSW, and Lollapalooza. The sad sierreño singer will now be joining forces with Tornillo for the ultimate clash of traditional genres that the two pioneers helped modernize. Their unique styles and innovative approaches have propelled Cumbia and Mexican Regional music to new heights, pushing them to the forefront of the American music scene.

Combining elements of Latin trap and Cumbia, Mexican native Tornillo rose to stardom in 2020, signing to Santa Fe Klan’s 473 Music label after releasing his first song, “Dime Cuándo Volverás.” Since then, the rapper has dropped standout tracks like “Morena” and “Sentosa” and joined Santa Fe Klan onstage at Coachella for their memorable set this year. Red Bull SoundClash will coincide with Tornillo’s U.S. debut solo tour this Fall, and be the exclusive tour stop for fans in Los Angeles and Chicago to watch the artist live.

The 2024 Red Bull SoundClash event series is supported by Fender with a guitar giveaway and exclusive Artist Backstage Pass recap to follow on Fender’s social channels. Featured artist DannyLux will play the Player II Jazzmaster in Aquatone Blue.
