Irv Gotti Says He’s Working On DMX Biopic While Recovering From Stroke

m

In a recent statement to The Shade Room, Murder Inc. CEO Irv Gotti spoke about suffering a stroke earlier this year and how he’s recovering while putting together a biopic of one of his most revered artists.

A rep for Gotti assured all of his fans and well wishers that he’s healing, while relaying a message from Gotti. “I’m getting older. That’s all,” Gotti said, according to his rep. “Only thing worse than getting old is not getting old.”

Besides the revealing news about the late Earl “DMX” Simmons biopic, Gotti also made it known that he was not happy about Wack 100 telling the world his private issues with his health.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed via his rep that the Murder Inc. head honcho suffered from a stroke about six months ago.

“Irv has been struggling with diabetes for years, which caused him to have a minor stroke over six months ago,” they said. “He has since changed his diet to eating more healthy. He’s been successful in making a full recovery.”

No further details about the biopic were discussed.

Following this week’s announcement of his highly anticipated debut album, COYOTE, being set for release September 27th via ISO Supremacy/PULSE RecordTommy Richman continues adding on to his monumental summer run with the release of his latest single, “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE”Following this week’s announcement of his highly anticipated debut album, COYOTE, being set for release September 27th via ISO Supremacy/PULSE RecordTommy Richman continues adding on to his monumental summer run with the release of his latest single, “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE”.

Having teased the single on his TikTok last week, “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE” comes as the first official release off COYOTE, giving fans an early taste of the project Tommy announced as album of the year during his late-night TV debut performance of “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The new single comes as a downtempo heartstring-pulling alt-R&B ballad, steering away from the upbeat funk sonics of his previous dance-rooted viral hits “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” and “DEVIL IS A LIE.” Tommy’s melodic vocal layers floating over the song’s vintage drum-machine groove, hazy chord progression, and howling synth lead highlight the creative maverick’s boundless artistic range as he reflects on previous heartbreak.

Directed by Lonewolf, the new music video shows Tommy cruising through the desert with a female companion, reminiscing about the lovely moments they once shared. Scenic mountain shots alternate with footage of Tommy serenading his dream girl under the night sky, until he’s hit with the heavy reality of the situation and wakes up from his dream among a pack of wolves. An eerie clip of a lone wolf overlooking the highway closes out the video, symbolizing Tommy’s journey so far. “It’s a great example of slowing things down a little bit… It’s not always about the hype songs. I’m versatile,” says Tommy.

Killer Mike Drops “Detonator” Inspired by ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’

Killer Mike Drops “Detonator” Inspired by 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 6'

Killer Mike has just released “Detonator,” a new single produced by his Run The Jewels collaborator EL-P, inspired by Activision’s highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Mike premiered the track during Activision’s Call of Duty NEXT livestream event, where 250 top global content creators showcased the game’s first gameplay footage.

“When Activision told me the theme of the game and what they were looking for I knew exactly who to call, plus I’ve been itching to rap on some El-P beats,” explains Killer Mike.

“Call of Duty has become far more than a video game, influencing many aspects of broader culture, especially music and hip-hop. With Black Ops 6 we knew we needed to work with an artist who had a strong voice given the political backdrop of the game and Killer Mike was the perfect artist to bring this project to life as he layered complex themes of control, power, corruption, and greed into the lyrics of the song,” said Tyler Bahl, SVP and head of Activision marketing.

“Detonator” represents a shift in style for Mike, following his recent gospel-infused project, Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival: Songs For Sinners & Saints. Unlike the church organ sounds of his previous work, this single features EL-P’s signature steely synths, creating a post-futuristic soundscape for Mike’s incisive critique of the military-industrial complex.

The release follows their recent collaboration at Mike’s final performance of a six-show residency at NYC’s Blue Note jazz club, where Run The Jewels delivered a mini-set alongside Mike’s gospel group, The Mighty Midnight Revival. The new single continues to build on their dynamic partnership and innovative musical direction.

NBA 2K25 Unveils Revamped City for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

NBA 2K25 Unveils Revamped City for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Today, 2K revealed major updates for NBA 2K25’s The City, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and making its debut on PC. The redesigned City, driven by player feedback, offers a more connected and interactive experience, including a vibrant Boulevard of Stars and the return of MyCOURT and iconic MyPARKS.

The revamped City is designed to feel more intimate, with basketball at its core. It features a condensed map that eliminates empty spaces, making every building purposeful and dynamic. Centrally located is the Boulevard of Stars, an upscale street that provides easy access to all game modes and experiences, such as refreshed Pro-AM, The REC, and Ante-Up. This street also boasts a Walk of Fame, which showcases past NBA championship teams while leaving room for players to memorialize their own MyCAREER dynasties alongside NBA history.

“The City for NBA 2K25 has been redesigned with community feedback at the forefront,” said Erick Boenisch, VP of NBA Development at Visual Concepts. “We’ve built a completely new City that is significantly more intimate and accessible, brought back nostalgic fan-favorite experiences, and created new ways to compete for all skill levels. The City in NBA 2K25 provides a greater focus on basketball and a quicker entry into the experience allowing players to seamlessly connect and compete.”

Answering the community’s call, NBA 2K25 brings back the beloved MyCOURT feature. This combination of an apartment and basketball court serves as a player’s private hub to practice and experiment on the court. Players can hone their skills solo or invite friends and MyCAREER teammates for games like 1v1, 3v3, and HORSE. MyCOURT also offers customization options, allowing players to personalize their space with new wall mural art earned through Quests and Season rewards.

Proving Grounds is introduced as the new competitive hub within The City, featuring a colosseum-inspired arena designed for intense ranked play across 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 games. The arena employs comp-level difficulty settings and removes Shot Meters, aiming to highlight the best NBA 2K25 players with daily leaderboards. The top five players each season will receive exclusive rewards, while all competitors can tier up and earn the highest REP in The City.

Affiliations make a strong return with brand-new parks for RISE and ELITE, continuing their rivalry. ELITE players will find themselves in a pirate-themed park featuring a playable ship, while RISE offers a futuristic robot manufacturing factory. Parks within each affiliation have been redesigned to place courts closer together, ensuring players can engage in action quickly. NBA 2K25 also celebrates a decade since NBA 2K15 by remastering all four iconic MyPARKs, including Sunset Beach, Rivet City, Old Town, and the aircraft carrier-based Old Town MyPARK, integrating new-gen technology and lighting.

Streetball also returns, offering over-the-top rewards and introducing co-op mode, where players can join forces in 3v3 games to complete Streetball Quests together. To accommodate newcomers, NBA 2K25 introduces several features to make The City more accessible. HoloHelp Info kiosks outside each game mode provide breakdowns and skill level recommendations, while beginner-friendly Casual Courts in the ELITE and RISE parks allow players to learn the game in a more relaxed setting.

With these updates, NBA 2K25 promises a richer and more immersive basketball experience, inviting both new and veteran players to explore the newly revamped City.

Happy 65th Birthday To Hip Hop Cultural Icon Fab 5 Freddy!

Fabfreddy smoking

What dictates cool? Originality, tenacity, courage, creativity?  Is it the will to stand alone beside your own thoughts and ideas or simply just being the first and flyest to ever do”it”? Whatever the definition may be, Bedford-Stuyvesant’s own Fab 5 Freddy was its embodiment throughout the ’80s and ’90s. As the host of Hip Hop’s most important TV show Yo! MTV Raps! Fab brought Hip Hop culture to the living rooms of millions of Americans and thousands abroad. Through the sheer exposure alone, Fab 5 Freddy turned Hip Hop from an underground subculture to the dominating force of a blooming international popular culture.

For a long time, Yo! MTV Raps! was Hip Hop’s grandest stage. It was the Soul Train for the 80s generation and paved the way for shows like TRL and 106 & Park. As its host, Fab Five Freddy was the public’s ambassador to a new and exploding scene. Some of the most historical moments of the culture happened behind Fab Five Freddy’s microphone, and in honor of his born day here is a list of some of the most memorable.

1989 Grammy Boycott

In 1989 The Grammy’s awarded their first Hip hop Grammy to DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince for “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” What could have been a huge moment for Hip Hop culture was turned into a farce. Although the award was given out, the Grammys refused to televise the reception speech. This discrimination outraged the rap community and caused a widespread anti-Grammy campaign to get underway. Fab Five Freddy was actually on the scene and able to get a short interview with The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff about the incident that can be seen in full here.

Interviewing 2Pac with Digital Underground

In one of 2Pac‘s earliest interviews, Fab Five Freddy gets a chance to pick the brain of a young man who would grow to become one of the most influential figures in Hip Hop.

Leaders of the New School Break Up

In one of the tensest interviews ever conducted on Yo! MTV Raps, one of New York’s brightest groups, completely self-destructed on screen. Leaders of the New School had already been under scrutiny with rumors of standout Busta Rhymes looking to venture onto a solo career.  What started as a normal interview broke apart into the group stepping off-camera to have a heated discussion. When the pow-wow finally broke up, Busta Rhymes apologized for the group’s actions, concluding the interview. The group officially announced its parting ways in the week following the interview.

Grand Finale Freestyle

In 1995 MTV decided to pull the plug on Yo! MTV Raps. What resulted was one of television’s greatest show finales of all time. With a cypher featuring Rakim, MC Serch, Erick Sermon, Chubb Rock, and a few other legends, Yo! MTV Raps bid a fond farewell to the fans and supporters that tuned in day after day for their daily dose of Hip Hop culture.

Today In Hip Hop History: UGK’s Second LP ‘Super Tight…’ Turns 30 Years Old!

Screenshot 2024 08 30 at 5.51.45 AM

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Houston’s own UGK released their second studio LP Super Tight… As the duo’s first project to make an appearance on the Billboard 200 chart, this album marked their transition from underground superstars to legitimate Hip Hop legends in the making.

With this album, it is obvious that the group had begun to refine its engineering abilities. Their usual rough around the edges sounds quality has been revamped allowing for cleaner vocals and crisper production. With the new quality also came a new fan base. Rap fans across the country were beginning to acknowledge Hip Hop coming from the south as the new sound. The smooth southern style of Pimp C and Bun B was a pleasant change from the growing hardcore scene that was growing on the East Coast and pistol gripping gun-slinging gangster rap that came from the West.

Commercially, the album was a breakthrough. Peaking at #95 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 370,000 copies nationwide, Super Tight… was UGK’s most popular album to date and set up their rise to power as the Kings of Texas rap.
