Janelle Monáe to Join the Cast of an Upcoming Harriet Tubman Biopic

Multi-hyphenate artist, actor and philanthropist Janelle Monáe’s Fem The Future nonprofit and Made In Her Image have come together to help a group of aspiring filmmakers. Let’s, stop and clap that out. Inspiring the youth from a position on influence is always a great thing.

Get this, twenty-five young women, girls of color and genderqueer individuals who previously attended courses, workshops and mentorship programs via the Open Lens Film Lab will premiere their short films in August.

Topics range from gender identity to self-confidence. All inclusive – awesome.

“Looking ahead in our industry, Made In Her Image and similar organizations are crucial to its growth. The students and their films exemplify deep creativity and steadfast dedication, nurtured through the Open Lens Lab. This spirit has been at the core of Fem The Future since its inception,” Monáe said in a statement.

She went on to say:

“Supporting MIHI aligns with Fem The Future’s commitment to uplift and amplify marginalized voices in the creative industry while planting essential seeds for new horizons in filmmaking. We’re honored to support MIHI’s Open Lens Film Labs.”

“Fem The Future’s support will allow Made In Her Image to not only amplify the work of these young filmmakers but to also sustain our ongoing mission,” added Malakai, the founder of Made In Her Image.

Malakai also said:

“We’re creating a platform to engage, empower, and mentor future artists and filmmakers to elevate their work through their own perspectives.”

Good for those filmmakers and let’s give Janelle Monáe her flowers for paying it foward, for everybody.

Trump Had Wild Idea for Kanye West to Lead Church Service at White House

It’s election season and rumors will swirl along with some tales that may have quite a bit of truth to them. In this case Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of “The View” and former Trump administration staffer, shared a surprising little story on Tuesday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.” When asked by a guest, “What was the wildest thing that you still cannot believe came across your desk when you were special assistant to Trump in the White House?” Griffin responded:

“This is gonna be dark.”

In fairness anything that involves Trump and Kanye these days is pretty dark. Just sayin.

She replayed the experience:

“One day, [Trump] wanted to have Kanye West come and do a church service on the White House lawn to unify the country. And I can think of few things less unifying than that. We were like, ‘Not the time or place, sir.’”

Get this, Griffin didn’t specify the exact timing of this proposal, but it likely occurred after West founded his Sunday Service Choir in September 2019, when he and his gospel choir performed across the country. So basically he was poppin’ and Trump thought he could repurpose Kanye’s wave. Weird.

West and Trump’s relationship has been tumultuous, a bromance and outright crazy all rolled into one.

West initially supported Trump but distanced himself during his own presidential campaign. After the 2020 election, West returned to supporting Trump. However, their relationship soured again in 2022 when West made antisemitic remarks, actually disgusting bigoted remarks prompting Trump to call him “a seriously troubled man” – ain’t that rich coming from him – following a controversial dinner at Mar-a-Lago, which West attended with Holocaust-denier Nicholas Fuentes. West even claimed he asked Trump to be his vice president, which Trump declined.

Despite these ups and downs, ha, West and Trump appear to be on good terms once more. Isn’t that cute?

When asked in February if he was supporting Trump for president again, West replied, “Yeah, of course, it’s Trump all day.” Let’s be honest, they are obviously made for each other.

Ty Dolla Sign & Kanye West Announce “Vultures 2” Listening Party In Taiwan

There are long album rollouts, and then there are Kanye West album rollouts. The Chicago rapper has become infamous for making announcements he never follows through on. Vultures 1, the collab album he dropped with Ty Dolla Sign in February, was supposed to be the first in a trilogy. There’s been radio silence with regards to Vultures 2 and Vultures 3, though. Until now. Ty Dolla Sign dropped a bombshell on July 25, and it came in the form of a single image. According to the singer, Vultures 2 is going to be played in full in August.

Ty Dolla Sign posted the promo sheet for a listening party taking place on August 25. The party will be held in Taiwan, and is being billed as a “listening experience.” Both him and Kanye West are credited on the promo sheet above the title “Vultures.” At a glance, this looks to be another listening party for the first album. There was a similar announcement made for a “listening experience” in Korea on August 23. Ty’s caption, however, says otherwise. “V2,” he wrote alongside the sheet, confirming that he and West are finally going to unveil the second album in their trilogy.

For context, Vultures 2 was supposed to drop back in March. The original concept was that the three albums would drop in consecutive months, building to Vultures 3 in April. Obviously, none of this came together. Kanye West has been sidled with one controversy after another, and Ty Dolla Sign, seemingly, has no clue on when fans will get to hear the albums. He told XXL that Vultures 2 could drop “any day now” back in May. More recently, the singer told Billboard that all of the songs for the album have been completed.

“We got all the songs,” Ty Dolla Sign confirmed. “Basically, it’s just like, ‘How can we get it there? How can we go bigger than the first album?’” Dozens of songs have leaked on line in some form or another, including anticipated collabs with Young Thug, Lil Wayne and Kid Cudi. A new release date has yet to be offered by either Ty or Kanye West. That being said, listening parties for the new album is an extremely good sign. Maybe the Vultures trilogy will be completed after all.

LeBron donned his latest signature shoes in a patriotic colorway of white, navy blue, and red. The LeBron 22, fully revealed, maintains the low-cut silhouette seen in the previous two models, adhering to a design that complements LeBron’s evolving game focused on efficiency.

LeBron’s kicks in action was posted on Nice Kicks @nicekicks X account.

Bron has consistently sported a new signature Nike basketball shoe every season since his debut with the Nike Air Zoom Generation in 2003, leading up to the LeBron 21 worn this past season.

Shoe designer Jason Petrie added a creative touch to the Swoosh logo on the LeBron 22, incorporating it into the upper with a cut-out overlay, reminiscent of the Air Zoom Generation. The sneaker “draws design elements” from last year’s LeBron 21 and features a Team USA colorway, aligning with LeBron’s goal to secure a third Olympic gold medal.

Even though Nike hasn’t announced an official release date for the LeBron 22, Ali Alba from House of Heat indicated that it is expected to launch during the holiday season later this year. So rest assume they are on the way.

Will Kendrick Lamar Be On Mustard’s New Album ‘Faith Of A Mustard Seed?’

Mustard’s fourth studio album, Faith Of A Mustard Seed, is out this Friday, July 26, five years after the release of its predecessor, Perfect Ten. As with his prior albums, Faith… has a massive, star-studded guest list featuring over a dozen frequent collaborators. One name, however, is conspicuously absent after a successful recent collaboration, and fans can’t help but ask if Kendrick Lamar will be on Faith Of A Mustard Seed.

The tracklist, which Mustard shared earlier this week, doesn’t include Kendrick’s name, but given how many artists these days keep at least one feature a secret, it’s entirely possible he could show up on the completed album. After all, Megan Thee Stallion’s album Megan didn’t have Big KRIT on the tracklist before its release, and she let fans be surprised.

Kendrick Lamar, of course, would be a perfect surprise addition to Faith Of A Mustard Seed, after his Mustard-produced single “Not Like Us” became the de facto song of the summer. It outlasted the battle between Drake and Kendrick, delivering Kendrick’s second solo Billboard Hot 100 No.1 and Mustard’s first. Mustard also appears in the song’s video.

Mustard was also one of the billed guests on Kendrick’s Pop Out – Ken & Friends concert in Los Angeles, playing a set with his own guests Blxst, Dom Kennedy, Steve Lacy, Ty Dolla Sign, and Tyler The Creator.

Even if Ken doesn’t appear on Faith Of A Mustard Seed, it’ll be the first time Mustard raps on a record, which is more than enough reason to tune in.

Wack 100 Calls Out 03 Greedo For Throwing Shade At Kendrick Lamar

03 Greedo and Kendrick Lamar are both beloved West Coast artists. In the weeks since Lamar’s “Pop Out” show, though, Greedo has thrown shade. At least, the hip-hop world seems to think so. The rapper asked who the real “colonizer” was on Twitter, riffing on K. Dot’s critique of Drake. He then claimed that L.A. artists were getting finessed out of their work by the rapper and his pgLang team. 03 Greedo didn’t mention names, but fans put two and two together. Wack 100 had something to say about this shade during a recent No Jumper appearance.

Wack 100 took 03 Greedo to task for his perceived disrespect. As far as the music exec was concerned, Lamar earned his reputation among the community. “It’s not about that,” Wack asserted. “It’s just about being real. They really respect and f*ck with Kendrick Lamar.” Wack 100 went on to note that K. Dot has had such a profound impact that artists are itching to collaborate with him. “Kendrick Lamar doesn’t have to bribe or pay for no passage,” he added. “To anywhere on the West Coast. Compton got his back.” The music executive also noted the family tree that Lamar comes from. Thanks to his Dr. Dre ties, Lamar has the backing of legendary acts like N.W.A. and Snoop Dogg.

“He don’t gotta go over there and pay,” Wack 100 explained. He then went to highlight the biggest difference between Kendrick Lamar and 03 Greedo. “[K. Dot is] not a guy that has to pay his way,” the executive noted. “And Greedo is speaking from the mindset of a guy that had to pay his way.” Greedo’s comments have led many to speculate as to why he was absent from the Juneteenth “Pop Out” show. The rapper did address the situation on Twitter, writing: “I fu*c w dot i was invited but i couldn’t make it.”

To 03 Greedo’s credit, he has praised Kendrick Lamar on multiple occasions. He had nothing but kind words for the rapper after the aforementioned “Pop Out.” “K dot like a Malcolm X after this,” he wrote on Twitter. “I sit back ann analyze all that he did in a month for this side of the nation. @kendricklamar you a f**cin genius. Gotta respect it. Took the throne w this one.” Hopefully the respect between these two will win out in the end. It has, after all, been a great year for the West Coast.

Diddy Shows “Love” To His Youngest Daughter On Instagram Amid Legal Woes

It goes without saying that it’s been a rough few months for Diddy. The Bad Boy Records founder is currently at the center of a federal human trafficking investigation and is facing several lawsuits. He’s accused of sexual assault, physical abuse, and more. He was even seen attacking his ex-girlfriend Cassie in security footage from 2016 that surfaced earlier this year. Diddy wound up apologizing for that, though aside from denying the allegations, he hasn’t said much else about his ongoing legal woes.

Regardless, the mogul appears to be enjoying his summer. He returned to Instagram last week to celebrate his daughter Chance’s birthday with a heartfelt post. “My babygirl turned 18 today. I’m so proud of you Chance. I love you,” he captioned the photos. Now, he’s taken to the platform yet again, this time to celebrate another one of his seven children.

Diddy’s latest Instagram post features a sweet photo of his youngest daughter Love, posing in a bright green dress and a purple lei. “FOREVER LOVE,” he wrote in his caption alongside some fun emojis. It’s unclear if they’re enjoying a family vacation or simply hanging out at home, but either way, it’s clear Diddy hasn’t let his legal battles ruin his good time. Earlier this month, for example, he was spotted on a white water rafting trip in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with some friends. After that, he wiped his entire Instagram profile and was later seen hopping on a private jet.

Khalifa and Aguilar kept the specific details surrounding the birth under wraps, but they’ve since confirmed that their daughter’s name is Kaydence. The happy couple also detailed their experiences on social media. Wiz Khalifa posted a video on Instagram with the caption: “POV thinking about all the outfits I’m about to pick out for my daughter.” Aguilar, meanwhile, divulged some of the complications that arose during the birth on TikTok.

“I gave birth exactly a week ago today, so I am a week postpartum,” Aguilar told followers on July 24. She posed for the camera, but revealed that she’s been unable to exercise sine giving birth to Kaydence. “I ended up tearing,” she explained. “So, during the labor and I pushed her out, I tore. I have stitches down there, so I think I’m going to wait another week or two before I start doing anything strenuous on my body.” Kaydence is Aimee Aguilar’s first child, and Wiz Khalifa’s second. Things have just eased up and become a lot more enjoyable and just regular of a process.” Wiz Khalifa also noted that becoming a parent was difficult early on in his career. “All the irregular sh*t has been worked out,” the rapper explained. “And we’re past everything that I think would cause people to be dysfunctional. So at this point, it’s way easier to just run things smoothly than it is for it not to be smooth.” Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose recently got together to celebrate their son’s 11th birthday. The celebrities threw a massive party with a basketball court and a mural of rappers, and posted photos from the event afterwards. “That’s what I Call a function,” the rapper wrote on his IG.

Tessa Thompson Set to Star and Executive Produce ‘His & Hers’ a Murder Mystery Series for Netflix

Tessa Thompson has her next television project on deck. The “Creed” star is set to star in and executive produce a new thriller series for Netflix, adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel “His & Hers.”

If you haven’t read the book, the thrilling series centers on a woman who was once a successful journalist but is drawn back into investigative work due to a murder. Unlike the book, which is set in London, the series will be based in Atlanta, aligning with the trend of Hollywood productions moving to Georgia. Atlanta as the backdrop of a murder mystery? You have our full attention!

Check out the official synopsis:

“Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna [Thompson] lives in haunting reculsivity, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega–the sleepy town where she grew up–Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: his and hers, which means someone is always lying.”

“I am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of,” Thompson shared with Netflix’s Tudum. “From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book, to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.”

We’re elated too. I mean these crime shows are all the rave right now.

Leading the charge behind the camera is Dee Johnson, known for “Nashville” and “Fellow Travelers”, who will serve as showrunner and write alongside “Ozark” creator Bill Dubuque. Executive producers include Jessica Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Kishori Rajan, Kristen Campo, and Thompson. William Olroyd will write and direct the first episode.
