The rapper, whose real name is Quentin Randolph, opted to take a plea deal in a federal drug case, marking a significant development in his legal saga.

In response to the developments, industry insiders and advocates for criminal justice reform have called for nuanced discussions about the factors contributing to Randolph’s legal troubles and the broader implications for artists facing similar challenges. The case serves as a reminder of the pressures and pitfalls faced by individuals in the spotlight, where fame and creativity can intersect with legal and personal challenges.

As Quango Rondo navigates this pivotal moment in his career, the music community watches closely, reflecting on the complexities of fame, legal scrutiny, and personal responsibility. His story prompts reflection on the intersections of artistry and accountability, highlighting the need for empathy and support for individuals facing legal challenges, regardless of their public persona.

Watch: Childish Gambino’s Trailer for New Film ‘Bando Stone & The New World’

Donald Glover who also goes by the rap moniker Childish Gambino, just unveiled the trailer for his upcoming movie Bando Stone & The New World during the 2024 BET Awards.

If you watched the show live, a brief version of the trailer aired during the event’s commercials, while Gambino posted a full two-minute version on his YouTube channel an hour earlier. The trailer had already been seen by some in theaters and quickly circulated online a few days ago. That’s called a rollout. As a companion to the film, Gambino plans to release a soundtrack to accompany the movie.

Onto the trailer, Gambino portrays Bando Stone, a renowned musician navigating a desolate world devoid of people. He encounters a woman and her child, and together they traverse a dystopian, post-apocalyptic landscape filled with giant squids and ominous emu-like birds. The film currently does not have a release date.

If unfamiliar, Glover began his latest musical endeavor, which he has hinted may be his last under the Childish Gambino moniker, in April. During a discussion on his Gilga project, he announced two new Childish Gambino albums. The first album, an updated version of his surprise release 3.15.20, quietly released in March 2020, was reissued in May under its original title, Atavista.

He has also announced dates for The New World Tour, an extensive tour across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, set to begin in August.

“I’m really excited to be here but I wanted to get some things off my chest first,” he said. “This isn’t personal but I just feel like I should have more BET awards. I’m serious. It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to do? Because it’s just the math of the fact. It doesn’t really make sense. I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense, but I have the same amount of BET awards as Sam Smith. Does that make sense to you guys? Me and Sam Smith are neck and neck at the Black Entertainment Television… If I have to do ‘Baby Boy’ or something, just let me know. I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock, shave my head, I’ll do it.”

Donald Glover And Tyler, The Creator Are Making Exceptional Black Art (Regardless Of What The BET Awards Say)

During last night’s BET Awards ceremony, Donald Glover — who was there to present the award for Album Of The Year — took a bit of a digression during his time onstage to call out the show for never nominating him. Indeed, it’s one of the first times the network has even acknowledged Glover’s existence, and the fact he was also allowed to plug his quirky new film Bando Stone And The New World is probably a testament to the concessions BET’s programmers had to make to soothe his bruised ego over the years of neglect.

“This isn’t personal, but I just feel like I should have more BET awards,” Glover said. “I’m serious. It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to do? Because it’s just the math of the fact. It doesn’t really make sense. I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense, but I have the same amount of BET awards as Sam Smith.” Smith and Glover both have one BET Award each; Glover won Best Music Video in 2019 for “This is America”, while Smith won the 2015 award for Best New Artist. I don’t know if you noticed, but Sam Smith… also isn’t Black.

Glover joked that he’d be willing to remake BET Saturday afternoon mainstay Baby Boy if it would get him more recognition from the network. “I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock, shave my head, I’ll do it,” he said, referring to a scene in which Ving Rhames puts Tyrese Gibson in a headlock during a heated domestic dispute in the film.

Social media users on Twitter noted that Glover has kind of a point — he should not have the same number of BET Awards nominations as Sam Smith, regardless of whether he and Will Smith have the same amount of Grammys — and drew parallels to another recent addition to the BET canon, Tyler The Creator. The Hawthorne, California native also went unacknowledged by the network until 2021, when he was honored with a (the admittedly vaguely titled) Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. During an interview about the award, he, too, acknowledged that he felt he “wasn’t accepted by that audience,” but that he held a deep reverence for the network growing up.

“I was so hype to perform at the BET Awards,” Tyler admitted. “I just never felt like my style of music would ever have been, not even appreciated, but allowed on there. And because of that, I would mock it. It was like a defense mechanism because I felt like I wasn’t accepted by that audience. But when they asked me this year, man, I was enthralled. I was so happy.” At first glance, it does appear that artists like Glover and Tyler contrast starkly from the usual BET fare. When they were both in the target demographic for BET’s old video countdown show, 106 & Park, they likely didn’t see themselves reflected in the usual rotation of artists like Soulja Boy, 50 Cent, or Hurricane Chris.

But over the years, they’ve each garnered mainstream acclaim for their creative works, which have always celebrated their Blackness and drawn extensively from deep cultural roots — even if they didn’t reflect the stereotypical looks and concerns promoted by not just BET, but mainstream depictions of Blackness in media in general.

Glover’s groundbreaking work in music and television includes the funk-soul revival album Awaken, My Love! and his paradigm-shifting dramedy Atlanta, which often addressed ongoing current events and made references to Black lifestyle deep cuts like the “haunted” Lake Rainier in his native Georgia. Meanwhile, Tyler’s multihyphenate takeover of hip-hop, fashion, and animation with albums like Igor, shows like The Jellies!, and his history-making collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton, centered Blackness and posited a broader spectrum of possibilities for it. You can’t tell me you couldn’t see Carlton Banks decked out in Tyler’s preppy Louis pieces. There are all kinds of alternative expressions of Blackness, and neither artist allowed the fact they didn’t see those expressions on TV stop them from expressing themselves in full.

While it’s clear that BET’s definition of notable Black art is expanding — a net good for a network whose narrow typecasting of Black art has been criticized in the past — neither Glover nor Tyler should ever have fretted. They’ve been two of the most important Black artists of their generation all along. From the beginning, both artists have presented a dazzling, wide-ranging perspective of what Black art can be. Beyond BET, we would all benefit from recognizing those talents — and the talents of others who go against the grain — and letting Black art be more than what we’ve already seen.

Khalid has impressed recently with the singles “Adore U” and “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me.” Now, we know the fate of those songs: They’ll be included on Sincere, the new album (Khalid’s third) that was announced today, July 1. The project is set for release on August 2.

In a statement, Khalid says of the album, “Sincere is a combination of my life experiences, it takes inspiration from conversations that I have had with my fans, supporters, and the people that love me. When I listen back to this project, I hear a sound that’s so unique and represents me at my best. This album is me at 26, continuing to evolve with the knowledge that I have garnered throughout the years.”

A press release says the project “showcases Khalid’s evolution as an artist and person and explores the all-too-relatable feelings of growing up.”

Meanwhile, almost exactly a year ago now, Khalid found himself in a car accident, which forced Ed Sheeran to open for himself on his Mathematics Tour. It was reported at the time that Khalid “had pulled over after his car started to overheat, got into the passenger seat, then was hit by a passing car.”

Sincere is out 8/2 via Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records. Find more information here.

The Young Thug Trial Has Reportedly Been Put On Hold Until A Recusal Judgment Is Made

Last month, the racketeering trial against YSL and Young Thug was sent into disarray as Judge Ural Glanville had Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, held in criminal contempt, sentencing him to a month of weekends in jail alongside his client. While that sentence was suspended while Steel appeals the decision, now the whole proceeding has reportedly been put on hold, as another judge must now review a recusal motion filed against Glanville by the defense.

The defense moved to have Judge Glanville recuse himself a couple of times in this case, but he’s refused on every occasion. On June 18, he denied the most recent motion, which stemmed from a secret meeting between the judge and a witness for the prosecution — the same meeting that prompted Steel’s supposed contempt of court when the defense attorney demanded the minutes from the meeting and refused to tell Glanville how he found out about it.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, the case will now be on hold until another judge has made a decision on whether Glanville can continue to preside over the case, which has been underway for 100 days today.

Young Thug is accused of being the ringleader of a criminal organization, YSL (Young Slime Life), which has been credited with a wave of crimes across Atlanta, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, and attempted murder.

Rick Ross Gets Ripped To Shreds By Tia Kemp After Viral Attack In Canada

Over the weekend, Rick Ross ran into some trouble after his set at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver. Reportedly, he instructed his DJ to play Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us,” prompting some tension among attendees. In various clips making their rounds online, he’s seen getting punched in the face, prompting his crew to jump in. The men who went after Ross are rumored to be Drake fans, though this is still unconfirmed at the time of writing.

As countless social media users and peers share their reactions to the unexpected debacle, Ross’ ex-wife Tia Kemp also decided to jump in, roasting the father of her child on Instagram Live. “They f*ckin’ his fat a** up,” she says in a clip from the stream. “I’m glad they smacked the sh*t out yo big a**.”

Kemp continued, also mocking Ross relentlessly for what she saw as his failed attempt to fight back. This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, considering the nature of their relationship these days. Nonetheless, some viewers think she should have at least an inkling of sympathy for her former partner. Fortunately, he doesn’t appear to be too fazed by the shocking incident, based on some of his latest social media posts.

As footage of the fight circulated earlier today, he took to his Instagram Story to send a brief message to his followers. “Vancouver was fun, til next time,” he wrote. He also took to the comments section of The Shade Room to joke that he thought his attackers were simply “bottle service boys,” making light of the bizarre incident. What do you think of Rick Ross’ ex Tia Kemp roasting him for getting jumped in Canada last night? Has she gone too far or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
