Tems’ NPR Tiny Desk Concert Is A Promising Preview Of Her Upcoming ‘Born In The Wild’ Album
This week will be a big one for Tems in what’s already been an exciting 18 months for the Nigerian singer. On Friday, June 7, Tems will release her debut album Born In The Wild and ahead of its arrival, the singer stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk to preview a couple of songs from the project and revisit highlights from her discography. She began with “Me & U,” the lead single off Born In The Wild, which was received a slightly stripped-back but equally enjoyable treatment thanks to support from her band and vocalists. Next came “Ice T,” the highlight from her 2020 breakout project For Broken Ears.
Afterward, Tems unveiled previously unheard songs, “Unfortunate” and “Forever,” from Born In The Wild. The former leans more into R&B and afrobeats as a reminder of Tems’ versatile while “Forever” strikes as a truly soaring record that highlights her growth. To close her set, Tems performed “Love Me Jeje,” the third single from Born In The Wild which interpolates Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit of the same name.
Tems’ Tiny Desk set comes days after she revealed the official tracklist for Born In The Wild. The album features 18 songs and guest appearances from Asake and J. Cole. She’s also set to embark on the Born In The Wild Tour with Naomi Sharon and Lekan.

FBG Butta Boasts About Allegedly Beating Up Chief Keef
FBG Butta recently sat down for a conversation with DJ Vlad on VladTV, and they kicked things off by talking about the one and only Chief Keef. Moreover, things began with Vlad asking Butta about the fact that Sosa is returning to his first show in Chicago in over a decade this summer, since he was previously barred from performing in the city. He said that Keef probably knows that he will be safe this time around because of the city’s efforts, but also said that it could be a sticky situation since his crew has a lot of in-house beef. In addition, Butta claimed that he even beat Sosa up back in the day over a girl before he was famous.

Regardless of FBG Butta’s alleged tussle, Chief Keef’s upcoming Summer Smash show is just one of his many accomplishments this year. He just dropped the long-awaited Almighty So 2, whose energy, songwriting, and production cement it as one of the best albums of the year so far. The Chicago MC may have delayed this for a long time, but now that it’s here, a lot of fans couldn’t have asked for more.

FBG Butta’s New VladTV Interview: Watch The Beginning To Hear The Chief Keef Story
As for FBG Butta, Chief Keef wasn’t the only fellow Chicago rapper that he spoke about, as this very same interview with DJ Vlad held some more interesting remarks. Most notably, he claimed that Lil Durk is with “the feds” due to his involvement in many cases in which he walked out a free man. “His s**t got brought up way more than mine,” Butta claimed. “And he got some money too… He’s the feds, gang.” For good measure, he also included some record label and Illuminati conspiracies to tantalize the tale.
Meanwhile, Chief Keef also continued to develop his strong collaborative bond with Sexyy Red this year, so who knows what the duo might have next? Whether or not this FBG Butta story is true, there’s certainly a lot more to say about the Chicago rap ecosystem. It may catch notoriety for its scandalous violence and interpersonal relationships, but these elements go far beyond just hip-hop. We’ll see if things pick up for the city in this regard, and whether its exponents can come together more fruitfully.

Megan Thee Stallion has been receiving mixed reviews on the cover art choice for her new album, Megan, on social media. She announced the project officially on Sunday night after months of teasing plans for it. In a post on social media, she wrote: “SURPRISE HOTTIESSSS!!!! My New Album ‘MEGAN’ will be coming out JUNE 28 PRE-SAVE NOW!”
In the replies to the post on X (formerly Twitter), fans were excited, but dismayed by the cover art. It shows Megan breaking out of a cocoon with an “M” superimposed in the background. “We will be buying and streaming but the album cover….. is kinda confusing it looks like ur inside a testicle,” one fan admitted. Another described Megan as a “genuinely charming, extraordinarily talented artist who makes some of the most baffling creative choices I have ever witnessed.” One more wrote: “Whoever made this cover should be blacklisted from the graphic design community for life.”

Megan Thee Stallion Performs At Boston Calling Music Festival
Megan first announced the new album while performing in Atlanta on her Hot Girl Summer tour on Sunday night. It’ll be dropping later this month on June 28. She discussed what fans can expect from the project during an interview with L’OFFICIEL, last week. “I don’t want to say I’m tapping into other genres. I’m just tapping into other sounds. But it’s still very much Megan Thee Stallion. It won’t feel like I went so left. It’ll feel true to me,” she told the outlet. “You’ll almost be like, ‘I wouldn’t have thought she would’ve rapped over that, but this sounds great.’”

Additionally, she just announced the release date and cover art for her third album Megan. The hyped project will drop on June 28 and is led by the explosive singles “Cobra”, “HISS”, and “BOA”. Speaking of “HISS”, that is another reason why is at her peak right now. Many declared that Nicki Minaj diss track as the better song that her rival’s, “Big Foot”. Now, Megan Thee Stallion and Latto are teaming up for a remix of the latter’s “Sunday Service”.
Fun fact, this is now the second new song and remix to be previewed during her worldwide trek. Not too long ago, GloRilla and Cardi B joined Meg onstage for a new version of “Wanna Be”, which is out now. That track saw the Bronx native take some shots at BIA in what has now led to a heated back and forth. “Sunday Service” is similar in that it contains some disses for female contemporaries, with the biggest targets being Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. Caitlin Clark is a talented player but did a lot of “bush league” stuff in college to her credit. The difference is she was able to get away with it in college. But now she is finding it hard to get away with it in the WNBA. Wu-Tang Clan Affiliate Blasts Macklemore’s Pro-Palestine Song In New Diss Track
Macklemore’s pro-Palestine song “Hind’s Hall” drew much praise and much backlash for a couple of different reasons, the most obvious of which is a political disagreement with his stance on the current conflict with Israel and Hamas. Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Remedy is one of many who criticized the rapper for this track, and released a response of his own with the diss “Ben” and an accompanying music video. The visual, in addition to showing various statistics and video evidence of some of the topics, also shows a performance in which he dressed up in a stereotypical Jewish “costume,” linking this to alleged antisemitism within “Hind’s Hall.”
Furthermore, Remedy attempts to debunk what he perceives as Macklemore’s bigoted claims about Jewish people and their connections to governance and the media. He will donate all proceeds from the “Ben” track to Polyphony, “an organization that bridges the divide between the Palestinian and Israeli communities, by using music as a common ground,” per the YouTube video’s description. It’s important to note that this is a much more gray, nuanced, and complicated topic than what either MC is letting on in their songs. So take their statements with a grain of salt and do your own research on both sides to avoid bigoted generalizations, blind defense of systemic oppression, or anything in between.

Cardi B’s heated Instagram Live over the weekend concerning her beef with BIA shocked viewers with her controversial claims to sue the Massachusetts rapper. Moreover, this is because she allegedly spread rumors that Bardi cheated on Offset, which the Bronx MC staunchly denied and called her rival out for supposedly trying to insinuate this. Not only that, but the “Bongos” spitter even claimed that the REALLY HER creative threatened to release alleged video evidence of her cheating on the former Migos member. This comes from a producer allegedly close to ‘Set, who said that they haven’t seen the video but that BIA threatened to release it if Cardi responds to her diss track.
This diss, “SUE MEEE?,” ended up including the cheating allegations anyway, and folks are debating whether suing someone over rap beef is “hip-hop.” No matter where you fall on that discussion, Cardi B denied any and all allegations, whether they relate to the cheating accusations or the existence of video evidence. This is certainly nasty territory to quickly get into when it comes to this feud. It’s expected and not all that surprising when looking at past rap beef, but it’s also a pretty steep ramp-up from the style-biting accusations that preceded it.

It’s clear that the hidden shots prompted some returning fire, and with so much rap beef already happening in 2024, the two femcees have homework to do. Hopefully this feud stays completely on wax and doesn’t complicate or escalate itself in the personal realm in a dangerous way. Maybe that’s just a naive expectation on our behalf, but we don’t always have to ignore the standard.
