Yasiin Bey Disses The Big Three On Slick “Like That” Freestyle

Yasiin Bey needs no introduction. He’s one of the most acclaimed rappers of his generation, and someone who’s been praised for putting artistry before commercialism. It’s this propensity for artistry that led Bey aka Mos Def to criticize Drake during a January interview. He claimed the Toronto rapper failed to meet his definition of hip-hop. A lot has transpired since then, however. The Big Three was destroyed by Kendrick Lamar, and Drake took another high profile L in a rap battle.

Yasiin Bey has decided to resurface in the aftermath of the Drake vs. Kendrick battle and drop a new freestyle. His instrumental choice? The song that started the whole Big Three conflict in the first place, “Like That” by Future and Metro Boomin. Bey sounds sharp as ever over the sparse beat, but the lines that turned the most heads were aimed squarely at the Big Three. The Black Star rapper appears to criticize the artists connected to the moniker for being superficial and greedy.

Yasiin Bey Claimed The Big Three Is “Not Much To Look At”

“Greedy, seedy, and creepy/Corny, horny, and boring,” Bey raps. “Bougie, goofy, and moody/Foolish, ruthless, and clueless/Variations on a petty Big 3/A whole lot to look at, but not much to see.” Calling rap’s most popular artists “petty” is enough to offend the younger generation, but Bey doubles down and claims that the Big Three don’t provide much substance. “A whole lot to look at, but not much to see” is a root of the rapper’s original problem with Drake.

In the aforementioned January interview, Bey dubbed Drake a “pop artist” instead of a rap artist. “Drake is pop to me,” he asserted. “In the sense like if I was in Target in Houston and I heard a Drake song. It feels like his music is compatible with shopping. You know, shopping with an edge in certain instances.” He drew so much negative attention for his comments that he clarified them on Instagram. That said, he stood by his opinion. “I require more of myself and others than just talent or charm or charisma,” he told Drake. “Particularly in times of urgent crisis.” Bey’s freestyle can be seen, consequently, as a triple down.

Diddy’s Latest Accuser Claims To Have Evidence Of Alleged Attack

Things keep getting worse for Diddy. The mogul was caught assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, in a video that was obtained by CNN, and now he’s facing sexual assault charges. This is only the latest suit to be filed against Diddy on grounds of drugging and assault. His latest accuser, however, claims to have proof in the form of sealed clothing. According to reporter Meghann Cuniff, Diddy’s accuser says she saved the clothes she wore the night she attended his afterparty.

Context is crucial here. Crystal McKinney filed a suit claiming that she was drugged and forced to perform oral sex on Diddy at a 2003 social event. She recalled waking up in a taxi cab the morning after Diddy allegedly forced himself on her, and is seeking undisclosed damages as a result. McKinney claims that she struggled to find work as a model after the incident, and was driven to attempt suicide just one year later.

The Accuser Preserved Her Clothing From Diddy’s Alleged Assault

What makes McKinney different from Diddy’s previous accusers, however, is the evidence she reportedly possesses. The lawsuit claims that has preserved her outfit over two decades, so it can be submitted as evidence. “Due to the traumatic events to occur later,” the suit explained. “Plaintiff saved the unwashed clothes from that night in her closet, where they remain in a plastic bag.” The clothing included “a black leather coat with fur hood, translucent chiffon beige v-cut shirt, fur-lined handbag, and jewel-encrusted jeans.”

If true, this piece of evidence could spell legal trouble for Diddy. The Bad Boy founder has managed to avoid official charges thus far, despite being sued by several women dating back to November 2023. He even issued an apology via Instagram. The apology was in direct response to the Cassie video.

Diddy is so vague in his wording, however, that it can’t help but be read more broadly. “I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” he said. “I went and I sought out professional help. Got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry.” McKinney isn’t swayed by the apology. The former model intends to be compensated for what she went through. Diddy has not yet responded to the suit.

Danny Brown Reveals He’s Working On A New Solo Album

Danny Brown had a monstrous 2023. The rapper released his sixth studio album, Quaranta, to universal praise. He also dropped the feature-length collab Scaring the Hoes with JPEGMafia. The joint album took over the internet, and went on to become the most beloved release of both of their careers. Hip-hop has been waiting to see what Brown would do next, and he finally confirmed that he was back in the studio during a May 22 concert.

Danny Brown put on electric show at the Forum Kentish Town in London. The Detroit rapper took fans through a set list of some of his greatest hits, but the real takeaway from the show was that he is working on his next solo album. “What I will say,” he told the crowd. “I am working on my new album right now, so, as soon as I’m done with that sh*t, I’ll be right back here with you motherf*ckers.” The crowd went nuts over the news. Brown was encouraged by the response, and shared more information about the writing process.

Danny Brown Claimed To Be Writing Every Night

“Every night after the show I’m in my hotel room,” he explained. “I’m writing new songs every night. I’m not f*cking with these b*tches no more.” The last line was said in a sardonic tone, but it still managed to get cheers from the members of the audience. To be fair to Danny Brown, he has taken a much healthier approach to making music that he did a decade prior. The rapper talked about the transition from heavy drug use to sober songwriting during a 2023 interview with NPR. “Once I got clean, it was like, no, that’s just you anyway,” he said, admitting to a fear of being a worse writer once clean. “I’m better than ever. It just took some time for me to get back to being me again.”

The mature outlook has manifested in his music. Quaranta is considered to be Danny Brown’s most mature effort to date, and he attributed much of it to living habits. “Now, me being older, I just want to be happy,” he reasoned. “Not doing sh*t that kills me, but sh*t that makes me [feel] live. And music is one of those things that I feel like that keeps me young. And just the hip-hop lifestyle in general. You don’t gotta be f* up to live the hip-hop lifestyle.” If Scaring the Hoes is anything to go by, we’d say Brown hasn’t lost any of his musical edge.

Elliott Wilson Claims Drake Has Blacklisted Him From Toronto

Elliott Wilson calls it like it he sees it. He’s been complimentive of Drake in the past, and conducted what many consider to be the definitive Drake interview in 2020. That being said, Wilson did not hold back his criticisms during the 6 God’s battle with Kendrick Lamar. He believed that Drake lost the battle by a wide margin, and detailed the ways in which he did on social media. This led to the Toronto rapper unfollowing him on Instagram. According to Wilson, however, the bitterness didn’t stop there.

Elliott Wilson discussed his current relationship with Drake during a recent UPROXX interview. The rap journalist told the hosts that not only did Drake unfollow him, but has subsequently made it difficult for him to travel to Toronto. “Kendrick clearly won,” Wilson noted. “And I understand not wanting to see that on your timeline.” It was the next step of the process that proved to be more of an issue. “I got the call from the OGs,” the journalist revealed. “I’m not really welcome in Toronto right now.”

Elliott Wilson Respects Drake’s Decision

Despite putting Drake’s decision on blast, Wilson told the hosts that he understood why it was made. “I grew up in New York City,” he explained. “You know you don’t go through other people’s projects. Your projects is your projects. You might go visit shorty, but you ain’t got no business going to her projects looking for no problems.” The journalist respects that Toronto is the 6 God’s domain, and will abide by that until they’re on better terms. “I would not go to Toronto if me and Drake weren’t good,” he added. “That obviously makes sense.”

Elliott Wilson’s respect extended to any artist he’s criticized in the past. “You develop these connections with them and you have to manage that relationship,” he asserted. “And there’s ups and downs with that. So, I respect him. I don’t think he’s a bad person for unfollowing me.” One of the UPROXX host claims he saw the Wilson and Drake spat coming, but Wilson doubled down and said that he doesn’t take any of it personally. “Most artists don’t [f*ck with me],” he noted while laughing.
