Juvenile’s Much-Anticipated Tiny Desk Concert Has Arrived And It’s Glorious

“Cash Money Records takin’ over for the ’99 and the 2000” are words every millennial knows. The reaction is darn near Pavlovian at this point. You know it’s about to go down. When Juvenile pulls up at the NPR offices to perform his long-awaited Tiny Desk Concert, the reaction is such that he performs the song not just once, but twice. As soon as he finishes, the audience clamors for more, bringing the whole band back for an encore that spills over into the crowd.

The New Orleans legend performs for nearly 30 minutes with not just keys, drums, bass, and guitar, but brings along a full-fledged second line and strings to flesh out his set, which features backup from in-house Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh (of course)”R and runs through classics like “Bling Bling,” “Ha,” “Set It Off,” “Slow Motion,” “Rodeo,” “Nolia Clap,” “I Need A Hot Girl,” “Project Chick,” and OF COURSE “Back That Azz Up.” If this don’t make you move, check your pulse.

This Tiny Desk was one of the more anticipated ones in a while, thanks to an immaculate roll out by Juvie the Great, who has certainly grasped his stature as a rap elder statesman and keeps a sense of humor about it. More artists should promote their Tiny Desk Concerts like this — it’s an honor to perform but it should also be fun for everyone. This one certainly is.

Who Are Flyana Boss? Meet The Rappers Running Through Disney World

If you have spent any time over the past month wondering just WTF Kanekalon is, odds are, you have been exposed to Flyana Boss’s inescapable viral single “You Wish.” At this point, it’d be kind of difficult to be online and not have been; the song, which the self-declared “weird girl” rap duo released two weeks ago, has been going crazy on just about every social media platform courtesy of their distinctive marketing strategy.

To date, Flyana Boss — consisting of best friends Bobbi Lanea of Detroit and Folayan Kunerede of Dallas — has released at least nine lyrics videos for the song in which they are seen running through seemingly random locations such as a grocery store, a local fair, McDonald’s, and, perhaps most infamously, Disney World. The fisheye lens, perfectly-timed long shot, and dynamic angle all make for a striking visual that not only gets the viewer’s attention but also invites them to try it out themselves.

It helps that Flyana Boss is a visually striking duo — pink hair, bleached eyebrows, and elf ears are all parts of the Gen Z, born-online aesthetic, and are not just recognizable but relatable to anyone who delved deeply into Tumblr or other internet subcultures in the past decade or so — and that their lyrics are flippant, fun, and deceptively clever. Think double Doja Cats or Rico Nasty in full sugar trap mode.

Take that reference to Kanekalon. A synthetic fiber developed by the Kaneka corporation, it’s been used to create dreadlock extensions of the variety sported by the rappers of Flyana Boss, connoting an inside joke that would only be caught by folks who come from one of the handful of subcultures that identify with their wear.

Meanwhile, the besties’ sense of fun is palpable through the camera — everything feels organic because you get the sense that they’re just being themselves. Spend an hour on TikTok and you’re likely to see dozens of young people like them: avid fans of Disney, anime, fantasy, and the artifacts of hyper-online pop culture like Vaporwave and the VSCO aesthetic. Their vibe is like a perfect distillation of the chaotic energy younger millennials and Zoomers embrace as par for the course.

They’re showing no signs of slowing down, either. With more “You Wish” videos going viral seemingly by the day, and scores of new fans passionately praising their cheeky, DIY approach, Flyana Boss is going places — including the Happiest Place On Earth.

Kanye West & Bianca Censori Check Out Adult Toys While Shopping In Tokyo: Report

When Kanye West and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian stepped out together, “Flashing Lights” followed them everywhere they went. The socialite is one of the most recognizable people, making it hard to top that level of celebrity. Nevertheless, Ye seems to be enjoying his newfound privacy following their divorce. In the meantime, he’s shacked up with Bianca Censori. They’ve been making fashion statements like we’ve never quite seen before over the past few months.

Leading up to summer, the 46-year-old was often seen wearing shoulder pads. He also sported sock shoes, and other unique creations while out with his kids and wife. TMZ reports that West and his wife have taken a trip to Tokyo, where their boundary-pushing ensembles have only continued. On Thursday (June 29) evening, they were sneakily filmed wandering through the Ginza shopping district without any security in sight. West did his best to stay lowkey with a covering on his face, donning almost all-black with his super stealthy sock shoes on foot.

Kanye West and His Wife Start Their Summer Overseas

She was shielding her face heavily back in America, but Censori showed off that and her body in Tokyo. The architect left little to the imagination in a beige leotard and dark tights, brought to life by a pair of sparkling silver heels. Eyewitnesses say that no one bothered the couple during their trip to the Don Quijote discount store. At one point, they apparently even browsed through the adult toy section. It remains unclear if they purchased anything, but when they were done with their excursion, a waiting car swept them off to their next destination.

Music doesn’t seem to be the main focus in Kanye West’s life at this time, as we’ve primarily seen him pouring into his family and other business endeavours. However, Young Thug’s recent social media posts have hinted at an upcoming collaboration with the father of four, which hip-hop heads would surely love to hear. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more music/pop culture news updates.

J. Cole Turned Down Adin Ross’ Charitable Donation, Didn’t Want To Film It

Whether on wax or off the mic, J. Cole is always looking for ways to speak to communities and directly impact them positively. However, he’s also the kind of public figure that doesn’t want to do things for the cameras, and keeps those endeavors quite private. Moreover, Adin Ross recently learned that according to his latest testimony during a recent livestream. Furthermore, readers may remember that Ross and Cole sat next to each other during Game 3 of the 2023 NBA Finals, and they actually chopped it up a little bit while sitting courtside. It turns out that the rapper actually respectfully declined a video idea from the streamer that involved community work because he didn’t want it to be filmed.

“I said, ‘Yo, would you wanna do a video where me and you go to Fayetteville and we give out hella money?’” Adin Ross said of J. Cole, a North Carolina native. “That’s exactly what I said. And Cole said, ‘I love the idea, like I really appreciate that. That’s real. But I just don’t like doing s**t like that on camera.’ So, you know, that’s what I asked him. I didn’t ask him for a live stream, I asked him something like that. But I respect J. Cole on God ’cause he’s real and he does s**t off camera all the time. He’s blessing people.”

Adin Ross On His Declined Offer To J. Cole

In addition, Ross elaborated on his interaction with J. Cole in another livestream. “Cole sits down, says, ‘What’s up bro? How you been? Where you staying now?’ Etc., etc.,” Ross remarked. “We have that cool talk, small talk. We’re watching the game and s**t, I’m not really trying to be in his ear a lot. He just came in there to zone out and be in the game and s**t. But I had to ask him, you know, I said some shit. I asked about some streaming. He’s like, ‘I don’t really like cameras like that.’ But then I said to Cole, ‘Yo bro, on some life advice s**t, I’ve always wanted to talk to you. I’ve always wanted to talk to you about some life advice s**t.’

“He’s the realest motherf***er,” he continued. “He was like, ‘I would be lying. I really, really just wanna watch the game right now, Adin.’ But this is what he said, ‘I feel like this is not the right setting, but one day I’ma give you a heart to heart talk. We can talk about anything.’ He’s like, ‘Take my number down.’ He just gave me his number like that. J. Cole’s a regular a** human, real-a** motherf***er.” For the latest news and updates on J. Cole and Adin Ross, keep checking in with HNHH.

Billboard Will Stop Counting Artist’s Website Sales Towards Hot 100

In a surprise announcement, Billboard confirmed that it will no longer count digitally downloaded singles from the artist’s own website towards its total sales for the Hot 100. The decision was announced yesterday and has taken effect today. This means that the Hot 100 revealed next week will be the last one where website sales will count towards overall sales. While the decision’s biggest victims are predominately K-Pop acts like BTS, there is one hip-hop artist who has relied on the website sales tactic more than anyone else, Nicki Minaj.

Nicki’s stans, referred to as the Barbz have used mass buying tactics to send her music up the Billboard charts repeatedly. The most notable example was her 2020 collaborative single with 6ix9ine, “Trollz.” The song was purchased hundreds of thousands of times through Minaj’s website by fans. This led it to a debut at the very top of the charts in its first week. The song quickly tumbled down the charts in successive weeks, however, as its number-one debut didn’t accurately reflect its popularity. Following 6ix9ine’s run of singles in 2020 Billboard made changes to the way they calculated album sales. They banned so-called “bundles” which let fans include album sales with merch. Also starting today, bundles will be reintroduced to the Billboard 200 formula. As long as a bundle provides fans with a physical copy of the album they’re purchasing it will count.

Billboard Makes Hot 100 Changes

One of the biggest stories on Billboard’s charts this year relates directly to hip hop. The year is halfway over and there hasn’t been a rap song hit number one on the Hot 100 or a rap album hit number one on the Billboard 200. Some have come close on both charts. The highest-selling rap album of the year so far Lil Durk’s Almost Healed debuted at number 2. Drake’s single “Search & Rescue:” also debuted at number 2 on the Hot 100. Both were kept off the top of the charts by Morgan Wallen, whose new album and single “Last Night” are having one of the most dominant runs in chart history.

Initially it looked like a rap album could finally challenge Wallen for the top spot. Young Thug’s Business Is Business was originally expected to sell 110k in its first week. After updated projections dropped that down to 87k it seems that Wallen will rule for another week. What do you think of the changes Billboard made to the Hot 100 and Billboard 200? Let us know in the comment section below.

Anthony Mackie Stands By Jonathan Majors Amid Domestic Violence Case

Jonathan Majors is currently in a lot of hot water concerning his upcoming domestic violence case, scheduled to begin on August 3. Not only is his March 25 arrest getting him in further legal trouble, but new allegations recently surfaced claiming a pattern of worrisome behavior. These date back to his time at Yale and also include some alleged on-set behavior for some of his projects. Still, many others in Hollywood are standing by the Creed III star, saying that the case still hasn’t brought a sustainable conclusion. Moreover, the latest to do so is fellow Marvel actor Anthony Mackie, who remarked on the situation to Inverse recently.

“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty,’” Anthony Mackie said of the allegations against Jonathan Majors. “That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s cr*zy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.” However, his remarks came on Wednesday (June 28), just a day before new developments emerged in the case.

Furthermore, The New York Times reported that the New York Police Department came to a complicated conclusion. They “determined that Grace Jabbari, who accused Jonathan of assault, attacked Majors herself and believe that there is enough evidence to support her arrest.” The victim claimed that Jonathan Majors slapped her, shoved her into a taxi, and grabbed her middle finger while on the way to his home in Manhattan. In addition, Majors’ attorney Priya Chaudhry said that she stole items from his home and denied her client’s alleged wrongdoing.

“We strongly requested the District Attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately and initiate proceedings against Ms. Jabbari, holding her accountable for her crimes,” she said in legal documents. “While we are hopeful that the District Attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, to accelerate our case, we’ve requested a trial date ASAP.” With these new layers to the case, it’s harder than ever to determine what went down. On that note, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Jonathan Majors.
