Brittney Griner Set for 2023 Met Gala

Brittney Griner Hits Mercury Practice Court After Signing New Deal for Upcoming Season

WNBA superstar Brittney Griner is headed to the Met Gala. According to Page Six, the Phoenix Mercury star will be a guest at the illustrious New York City-based Gala.

Griner is currently in training camp for the forthcoming WNBA season but will take time to attend the May 2023 celebration.

As of reporting, Griner’s fashion designer of choice is unknown for the event that will honor fashion icon, Karl Lagerfeld. The theme for the event is Karl Lagerfield: A Line of Beauty.

Last month, Brittany Griner revealed she will let us in on what her “unfathomable” experience in a Russian prison was like. The AP notes Griner plans to release a memoir in the spring of 2024.

Griner was detained for 10 months in a Moscow prison after being arrested at an airport on drug-related charges. Her arrest came near the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She was released in a prisoner swap.

“That day (in February) was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life which only now am I ready to share,” Griner said in a statement.

“The primary reason I traveled back to Russia for work that day was because I wanted to make my wife, family, and teammates proud. After an incredibly challenging 10 months in detainment, I am grateful to have been rescued and to be home. Readers will hear my story and understand why I’m so thankful for the outpouring of support from people across the world.”

Earlier in April, Griner asked the Biden Administration to step in and work to free American reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been detained in Russia on espionage charges. Gershkovich, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, is facing 20 years in prison.

“Our hearts are filled with great concern for Evan Gershkovitch and his family since Van’s detainment in Russia. We must do everything in our power to bring him and all Americans home. We are grateful for President Biden and his administration’s deep commitment to rescue Americans. We celebrate their recent successful efforts to bring home Jeff Woodke and Paul Rusesabagina.”

Jack Harlow Had An Encounter With Kyle Lowry’s Much-Discussed Butt And Shared His Findings

Miami Heat point guard Kyle Lowry has had a long and successful NBA career, and the six-time All-Star still an impactful player even at 36 years old. His game isn’t anything to joke about, but he has been the subject of some memes due to the size of his butt. That part of his anatomy gets brought up here and there, like when ESPN’s Ryan Clark went viral last year for tweeting, “Kyle Lowry has to be wearing some kind of padding under his uniform. No way my man built like that.”

Now, Jack Harlow unintentionally did some investigative reporting on Lowry’s backside and has shared his findings.

Yesterday (April 30), Harlow attended the Heat’s playoff game against the New York Knicks, where Lowry ended up in his lap after a fall. Harlow then posted a point-of-view photo of the court from his courtside seat and shared it on his Instagram Story, writing, “Kyle Lowry just took a fadeaway 3 and landed in my lap. The rumors are true. His sh*t was like a pillow.”

Lowry has addressed all the talk about his backside, saying on Vince Carter’s The VC Show podcast last summer, “It used to bother me a lot. It used to get to me. It used to really get to me, I’m gonna be honest with you. And now, I don’t care.” He then rattled off some of his career accomplishments and continued, “Thick’s been good for me. Yeah yeah, I’m cool with it. […] Y’all can create all the memes y’all want. I embrace it. I love it.”

Jack Harlow is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Fat Joe Songs: His Best From “Lean Back” To “What’s Luv?”

Fat Joe’s imprint on Hip Hop is unmatched. His rise arrived next to the late-great Big Pun, and the pair became formidable forces in the industry. Following Pun’s untimely passing, Joey Crack did his best to honor his friend’s memory while continuing to become one of Hip Hop’s elite. The award-winning hitmaker has done just that.

In the early 2000s, Terror Squad was a force to be reckoned with Joe at the helm. Often, we’ve seen Joe with his best friend and hitmaking partner Remy Ma collide on a track. However, she is one of many collaborators of Joe’s that have joined him at the top of the charts. While many of today’s artists shun away from certain contemporaries, Joe often works with creatives from around the globe. Whether they’re from his stomping grounds of the Bronx (like Cardi B), making hits in the South (with the likes of Rick Ross), or grooving in the West (with Ty Dolla $ign), Joe isn’t afraid to link in the studio.

Throughout the years, Fat Joe has proven to be in the conversation as a great emcee. Undoubtedly, he’s one of the greatest rappers to come out of New York. Let’s look at some of his best work.

13. “Pullin” With Dre & Lil Wayne (2019)

Fat Joe makes a good rap record on “Pullin’.” It’s neither a club record nor a song for the ladies. On “Pullin,” Crack wasn’t going for a commercial hit. He taps Lil Wayne and his long-time collaborator, Dre, for features. Wayne and Crack link up again as they have appeared on the same track together plenty of times.

12. “Money Showers” With Remy Ma ft. Ty Dolla $ign (2017)

“Money Showers” might be part two to “Make It Rain.” He even uses a popular line, “I make it rain on them h***,” from the 2006 hit in “Money Showers.” Both songs are indeed meant for the strip club. The music video for “Money Showers” takes place in a club as it is influenced by the 1998 movie, The Players Club.

Instead of a heavy rap club record, Fat Joe opts to go for a smooth, subtle Hip Hop-R&B blend. Remy Ma’s aggressive flow complements this peaceful production. Joe taps into the new school R&B by linking up with Ty Dolla $ign. This gives the typical Fat Joe-Remy Ma collaboration a modern sound.

11. “John Blaze” ft. Nas, Big Pun, Jadakiss, & Raekwon (1998)

“John Blaze” is one of the best “posse cuts” in Hip Hop history. Some of the best lyricists we have ever come across come together on this track. Jadakiss, Raekwon, Nas, and Big Pun took turns on “John Blaze.” Including Fat Joe, it’s hard to decide who had the best verse. Many will go with Pun, but you can’t go wrong with any of the five heavy hitters.

10. “Yes” With Cardi B & Anuel AA (2019)

Fat Joe taps into his Latin roots on “YES.” Whether he collaborates with Latin artists or shouts his culture out on a song, the Bronx native makes sure to represent. He gets help from Cardi B and Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA. “YES” has a Latin feel to it as Fat Joe samples a salsa song to loop throughout the track. It’s another track for the ladies, unlike “Another Round” or “I Won’t Tell.” It’s more of a strip club record like “Make It Rain.” What better way to make a club anthem than to have a former stripper on the track?

9. “So Excited” ft. Dre (2017)

If you heard “So Excited” and “Attention,” you may get the same feeling from both songs. And it’s not just because Dre is on both tracks. Fat Joe keeps the energy fun and light with “So Excited.” It’s another bop for Crack as he adds one more party record to his catalog. His ability to appeal to all audiences should not go unnoticed.

8. “Attention” With Chris Brown & Dre (2018)

“Attention” feels just like “Sunshine (The Light).” Instead, it’s an original song, as Crack grabbed Chris Brown and Dre for this one. Fat Joe has a knack for making records that feel like the summertime. It seems as if Scott Storch is his go-to producer for his hit records. This is the third time they have linked up and been successful.

7. “Sunshine (The Light)” With Amorphous & DJ Khaled (2021)

Fat Joe has a knack for making songs to dance to. What’s interesting about “Sunshine (The Light)” is how it came about. DJ Amorphous is known for creating mixes of different artists’ songs. His mashup of Rihanna and Luther Vandross caught the attention of Fat Joe and DJ Khaled. Amorphous combined Vandross’s “Never Too Much” with Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better.” Fat Joe’s smooth flow is perfect for this sound. The title of the song perfectly describes the feeling of this tune.

6. “Another Round” ft. Chris Brown (2011)

”Another Round” is one for the ladies. However, this one is a bit more intimate as Fat Joe taps Chris Brown to make a slow jam. Not to be compared to the similar sounds of the 90s, “Another Round” is more modern. The sound feels R&B, but the drums make it Hip Hop. ”Another Round” is an example of Fat Joe taking a page from Big Pun or the Notorious B.I.G.’s book.

5. “I Won’t Tell” ft. J. Holiday (2008)

For this track, Fat Joe calls on J. Holiday to create “I Won’t Tell.” This was another hit for Joe as it landed in the Top 40. He also has a knack for collaborating with artists while they’re hot. First Lil Wayne, now J. Holiday. ”I Won’t Tell” was Fat Joe’s lead single for his album, The Elephant in the Room. Many believe it was solely for radio, but nonetheless, it is another hit in Joe’s catalog.

4. “All The Way Up” With Remy Ma ft. French Montana, Infrared (2016)

Decades later and Crack is still making hits. Grammy-nominated hits, that is. ”All The Way Up” was one of the best songs in 2016. It was nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. The hit song even got the attention of arguably the greatest rapper of all time, Jay-Z. To everyone’s surprise, he was on the official remix. Hov’s presence on the record gives it more of a New York feel. First “Lean Back” and now “All The Way Up,” it’s safe to say Fat Joe knows how to make a song for the Big Apple.

3. “What’s Luv” ft. Ashanti (2002)

Fat Joe makes a song the ladies can enjoy on “What’s Luv?” Ashanti elevates the song with her catchy chorus. Their chemistry on this track makes you wonder why this is their only track together. Fat Joe gets his first Top 10 with “What’s Luv?” while also creating another memorable moment for Hip Hop in the 2000s.

2. “Make It Rain” ft. Lil Wayne (2006)

The North and South collide on “Make It Rain.” Fat Joe taps Lil Wayne for this Grammy-nominated hit. It was up for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2008. ”Make It Rain” was so popular that it called for a remix. Birdman, Rick Ross, R. Kelly, Ace Mac, and T.I. all joined Fat Joe and Wayne for the updated version.

1. “Lean Back” – Terror Squad ft. Fat Joe & Remy Ma (2004)

Fat Joe and Remy Ma joined the Terror Squad and created a dance craze with “Lean Back.” Now, it wasn’t the most complex move ever, but it sure was popular. Whenever Fat Joe said, “Do the rockaway, now lean back, lean back…” people of all ages did just that. ”Lean Back” is arguably one of the best songs of the 2000s. Any time you can create a great song with a popular dance craze is a success. The 2004 hit is a huge party record, giving Fat Joe another No. 1 hit.

Jack Harlow’s “They Don’t Love It” Music Video Takes Us On A Tour Of Louisville: Watch

Jack Harlow fans had high hopes for his sophomore project, Come Home The Kids Miss You. While some of them were pleased with the mostly featureless 15-track effort, just as many expressed a desire to hear more hard-hitting rap bars from the “WHAT’S POPPIN” hitmaker, who’s previously been accused of being too predictable lyrically. It seems he’s hearing the world’s cries loud and clear, as Harlow came back this past New Music Friday (April 28) with something to prove just how strong his pen game is.

It came in the form of Jackman, a 10-track LP that finds him operating without any assistance from other rhymers. Thus far, the second title, “They Don’t Love It” has emerged as the most-streamed on Spotify, likely due to some particularly confident bars comparing him to Eminem. “Ya boy’s strivin’ to be the most dominant ever / The hardest white boy since the one who rapped about vomit and sweaters,” his rhymes begin. “And hold the comments ’cause I promise you I’m honestly better than whoever came to your head right then.”

Jack Harlow Impresses Fans with Jackman

Regardless of his instructions for listeners to keep their argumentative comments to themselves, thousands began pouring out on Twitter over the weekend. Many of them shamed Harlow for seemingly forgetting about Mac Miller‘s existence, while others suggested names like Paul Wall and Action Bronson as more deserving of the “hardest white boy” title. As debates and discourse continue to unfold, the 25-year-old seems unbothered as he shared the music video for “Don’t Love It” on Monday (May 1).

In the two-minute-long clip, Jack Harlow gives us a quick tour of his hometown, Louisville. From his former middle and high schools to a local bookstore where he likely picked out some of his childhood favourites years ago, it’s obvious that the White Men Can’t Jump actor has become nothing short of a hometown hero. Check out the Kentucky native’s full Jackman album here if you haven’t already, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.

DatPiff Announces New Internet Archive Partnership

DatPiff is easily known as the last relic of the blog era. A bridge between the blog era and the streaming era if you will. DatPiff has one of the most important musical databases that date back to the last decade. Without the mixtape platform, we lose tons of music that couldn’t make it to DSPs. That means all of you Meek Mill fans would lose all the early tapes if DatPiff were to shut down. It’s an absolute staple within the culture.

Since its servers crashed back in mid-March, the music platform has had to fight off many rumors that it would be shutting down for good. Furthermore many thought they would be saying goodbye to DatPiff after the crash. Additionally, since March users were unable to use the platform to download old mixtapes or any music for that matter. This caused a frenzy on the internet. However, DatPiff had a message for all the naysayers and scared fans alike.

DatPiff Sets The Record Straight

The mixtape downloading service dispelled all the rumors and speculations with a well-worded tweet. Despite all the rumors, DatPiff says they are happy to report that they will still be “supplying you with all the mixtapes you love.” Moreover, the platform elaborated that they’ve been, “working through technical issues on our site and app.” However, they noted that they still are active on their YouTube. After dispelling all the rumors and commotion, DatPiff left a sentiment thanking everyone for their concerns. “Thanks for all the love and concerns but we promise, we are still here,” said the platform.

In other news, reports surfaced that is “working away” on the next generation for the mixtape platform. On their site, they have a message plastered on the front in all caps saying “EMBRACE THE NEXT GENERATION OF DATPIFF.” The message reads, “We’re evolving beyond our website and app to take Datpiff to the next generation!” “While we’re working away on the next iteration of Datpiff, we’ve partnered with Archive.org to continue to make the Library accessible!” The music platform ended the cryptic message saying they’ll share more in time, however, the response from fans has been explosive. Since announcing that they’re archiving their database, fans are excited to know the bridge between the blog era and the streaming era will not be broken.
