FX has another hit on its hands as the new show, Dear Mama, has become the most-watched premiere for an unscripted series in network history.
The Five-part series directed by Allen Hughes made its debut on April 21 and was available to stream the next day, leading to the combined performance. The show highlights a lesson that Tupac’s late mother shared with him at an early age.
“It was my responsibility to teach Tupac how to survive his reality,” Afeni Shakur said in the trailer. “So, Tupac do something wrong, take your little sorry self in that corner, get the New York Times and let’s have a debate about it. Not a discussion, a debate. Let me hear what your idea is, stand up, defend it.”
The series is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution, and justice is more relevant today than ever.
“It’s only fitting that Allen Hughes definitive piece on Tupac and Afeni Shakur delivered a record performance for us and it speaks to Tupac’s enduring legacy,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment. “Allen’s examination of Tupac viewed through the prism of his mother Afeni is a fascinating take that really gets beneath the education and experience that shaped his life and inspired him to become one of the greatest artists ever.”
It’s been a while since we received a posthumous Pop Smoke release, but the late rapper’s voice could be heard everywhere in years prior.
Pop Smoke’s manager and producer Rico Beats was speaking with a fan in Instagram DMs and revealed he felt Pop would not approve of any posthumous releases in his name.
“If pop was a live he would not approved of 99 percent of the stuff they put out,” Rico wrote.
He would go on to suggest that we have heard all of the stashed music available. He wrote, “What else ya want pop died 3 years ago how much music ya think he did in one year? Y’all gotta be real.”
You can see it from Rico below.
Three years ago, Pop Smoke was killed during a home invasion in Hollywood Hills. Rumors circulated that accidentally showing his address on social media hours earlier led to his untimely demise.
One of the underaged invaders has just been sentenced to four years in a Youth Treatment Center.
LA Times reports:
A 20-year-old charged in the killing of Pop Smoke pleaded guilty in juvenile court Thursday, admitting he entered a Hollywood Hills mansion as a teenager in February 2020 intending to rob the rapper, who was shot to death in a struggle with his assailants.
The defendant pleaded guilty in an Inglewood courtroom to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion robbery; he was the first to admit guilt of four defendants charged in the death of Pop Smoke, whose real name was Bashar Barakah Jackson.
Judge J. Christopher Smith sentenced the defendant to four years and two months in the Secure Youth Treatment Facility but warned he could remain in juvenile custody until he was 25. The judge declined to apply the two years and eight months he has already spent in juvenile hall toward his sentence.
Three others are charged in Jackson’s death: two juvenile defendants, 15 and 17 at the time of the homicide, and Corey Walker, who was 19. A judge has issued a court order barring the media from identifying the juvenile defendants.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Hilary Williams told a judge at a hearing in August that the defendant who pleaded guilty Thursday was no minor participant in the crime: He scouted the mansion, helped Walker recruit three other juveniles to rob Jackson and, after entering the home, remained in “constant communication” with Walker, who waited in the getaway car.
From a wiretap on his phone, detectives learned he’d committed other robberies, Williams added.
Martin Lijtmaer, the attorney for the defendant who pleaded guilty Thursday, argued his client was intellectually disabled, sparking a years-long series of examinations and hearings over his competency to stand trial.
Jody Ward, a psychologist who examined the defendant on behalf of the prosecution, testified in August that he appeared to be faking the disability.
After he was arrested, the defendant showed a familiarity with the judicial process that belied his alleged disability, Ward testified. He planned with his cellmate — a plant for the police, who were secretly recording the conversation — how to glean information from detectives without giving anything up himself, Ward said.
“OJ was able to beat his case even though there was blood on his socks,” he told his cellmate, according to Ward. But if all else failed, “I still got that Regional Center s—,” he said, a reference to the facility where he’d been diagnosed as disabled.
After handing down the sentence, Smith addressed the defendant. “I don’t know how you and your friends even came to the idea to rob someone, someone whose life was taken unnecessarily.”
The judge noted the defendant will one day return to his family. “Mr. Jackson is not. His life is done because of what you and your friends did. You owe. You owe.”

Rick Ross’ neighbors are fed up with his stuff. A report from local WSB-TV states the rapper’s neighbors pulled up to the local Board of Missioners in Georgia and complained about Rozay’s car show and how it impacted traffic.
With the car show set to happen again in 2023, Rozay’s neighbors have created and passed a petition to shut down the show. The show is believed to bring over 6,000 fans to the area. The Concert, Car, and Bike show is set for Ross’ estate on Highway 279.
One neighbor stated, “Our quality of life was unnecessarily compromised.”
Another added, “We feel locked out. It took me 40 minutes to get out of my subdivision.”
The show is currently set for June 3 and has Lil Wayne booked.
This isn’t the first time Ross has had issues down at his home in Georgia. Just a month ago, Rozay had problems with the buffaloes roaming the land. Buffaloes are enormous animals that can weigh up to 2,000 pounds. His property, his problem, right? Sure, until the buffaloes marched over to a neighbor’s property and could potentially cause an issue for her small children.
TMZ notes the animals were on Rozay’s neighbor’s lawn, which she discovered when she came home from work. After visiting Ross’ home to talk about the animal, a verbal dispute happened, leading to a civil dispute later.
Additional animals at Rick Ross’s home include four horses and a bull.
We all know the greatness of “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.” Would you believe that DMX ended up on the single as a result of a bet?
Swizz Beatz pulled up on Sirius XM’s Hip-Hop Nation and revealed the beat didn’t specifically thrill the rapper, but he found his way on it due to losing a bet.
“X lost a bet or I wouldn’t even been on that album,” Swizz said. “That song ended up changing all of our lives. So he technically won the bet for my Uncle D and you know that just changed all of our lives. So it was just enough to do what it needed to do.”

Snoop Dogg on ice? Not really. But he may hit Canada for a few more hockey games as he has joined an ownership group that is targeting a purchase of the Ottawa Senators.
According to The Athletic, Uncle Snoop has aligned with Neko Sparks, who has been chasing the hockey franchise since January 2023. If successful, Sparks would become the first Black owner in NHL history.
Sparks won’t be just with Snoop, he also has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a member of the ownership group.
The Senators are not short of suitors, additional bidders include a group led by actor Ryan Reynolds and real estate mogul Christopher Bratty who are looking to bring together $1 billion to buy the team.
The Ottawa Senators finished this season with a 39-35 record and 86 points.
Juwanna Mann will make a return to the court. The original film’s star Miguel A. Núñez Jr. revealed he would reprise the role of Jamal Jefferies, and Juwanna Mann 2 is now in development.
Speaking with TMZ, Núñez Jr. brushed off the questions of if the film could survive in this climate to state the movie is in the works. Núñez Jr. said the development was “complicated,” and it was a great deal of work done to get the story in motion.
“Yes, they are gonna do it,” Núñez Jr. said. “We are doing Juwanna Mann 2. Yeah, I can’t give you the details of it, but you’re right, it was complicated because of issues now, and because of the fact that he was exposed. But, I can’t give away the story, we’re working on that right now.”
