Tevin Campbell Recalls Getting Drunk & Being Rude To Wyclef Jean In The Studio

His songs are classics that, when played in a public setting, can cause an entire room to erupt in concert, and Tevin Campbell is sharing some tales of his youth. The “Can We Talk” icon has been in the industry for most of his life as he launched his singing career as a young teen looking for his big break. His talents took him to the top of the charts and around the world, and Campbell has been a respected voice in the industry for decades.

The R&B icon recently sat down with the State of Black Music Podcast to relive some of his greatest moments, and during the discussion, Campbell laughed through a story involving Wyclef that he said now is “actually pretty funny.”

“When I was a kid, dude. I can tell you the story of when I had too much to drink and I was working with Wyclef,” said the singer. “This is actually pretty funny… I had a session with Wyclef. Great session, we did some great songs. And so, before the session, I went into the lobby at the bar and had eight cosmopolitans. Eight. In the span of probably two hours, three hours. So, I was sh*t-faced.”

Campbell said they went into the studio and listened to a few tracks, “and every song he played for me I was like, ‘Oh, that sucks. That’s horrible, play the next one.”

“I was cursing, too! I was being very, very nasty and just horrible,” Campbell recalled. “I was like, ‘This sh*t sucks. What the f*ck is this, play the next one… And so, then he called my mom ’cause he couldn’t take it anymore. I was drunk! Acting a fool, acting like a brat.” Wyclef made sure to update Campbell’s mother on the situation, but even with his mother on the line, the singer admitted that it didn’t change a thing.

The session was canceled due to Campbell’s antics and the singer believes that Wyclef “still holds that against me ’til this day… maybe not.” Watch Campbell’s appearance on the State of Black Music Podcast below.

Chuck D Reacts To ‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Mixing Up Public Enemy And The Funky Bunch, “Everybody Don’t Know Everything”

Chuck D PE

Public Enemy is one of the greatest, and arguably the greatest, hip-hop group of all time. You would think the legendary group would be a household name, even outside of hip hop, but obviously, that is not the case.

During a recent episode of the long-running game show, temporary host Mayim Bialik read a clue from a category called “Chuck D, Times 3.” The question read “In the 1990s Chuck D began fighting the power in this hip-hop group with Flavor Flav, a man who always knew what time it was.”

The contestant Halley Ryherd obviously forgot to study hip hop music and the most popular groups of the 1990s when she answered the question with  “The Funky Bunch.”

The clip quickly went viral on social media as people wondered how someone could mix up Public Enemy, one of the most important and legendary hip hop groups of all time, with Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch.

Chuck D even saw the clip, and decided to respond, saying that “everybody doesn’t know everything.”

“Everybody don’t know everything… it’s why I introduce myself wherever I go and whoever I talk to … it’s just courtesy. But the sad thing is not knowing those other Chuck Ds,” the PE frontman said on Twitter.

Even the contestant who screwed up the answer chimed in on social media, jokingly saying that she’s talked to her therapist and will forever be known as the person who mixed up the two groups.

“I’ve talked to my therapist about it and I think I’m ready to forever be the person who mixed up Public Enemy and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch on @jeopardy. #mylegacy.”

Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’ Gets Covered By An Adorable Kid And It’s An Absolute Must-Watch

Beyonce has fans of all ages, races, identities, and really any other characteristic used to label someone. This week’s example of her ubiquity comes in the form of a child singing along to her recent single “Break My Soul.” The young man took a break from his cheese puffs to dance with excitement before requesting his Alexa to turn the music up when the upbeat jam turned on. He then went on to sing along to its chorus, repeating “You won’t break my soul” and adding an emphatic “Everybody.” As the male voice in the background sings “Release your mind, release your job,” it appears the young man is trying to free himself of the shackles of whatever job is weighing him down. The kid gets it.

Beyonce released “Break My Soul” on June 20, coincidentally following Drake’s full dance album Honestly, Nevermind, ahead of her upcoming album Renaissance Part 1 which is set to release on July 29. “Break My Soul” featured contributions from The-Dream, Big Freedia, and her husband Jay-Z. Renaissance will mark Beyonce’s first proper solo album release since 2016’s Lemonade, though she did provide Everything Is Love in 2018 in collaboration with Hov plus Homecoming: The Live Album and The Lion King: The Gift in 2019.

During Diddy’s tribute, Yung Maimi held up a “GO PAPI” sign that caused a viral social media moment. People teased her and called her all sorts of names, but the rapper was unmoved by the opinions of the public—and her groupmate JT went to bat for her against trolls.

Now that the hype has died down and everyone is recovering from those star-studded afterparties, Diddy has returned to Instagram to give Yung Miami a shout-out for holding him down. He even revealed his nickname for her.

“This is one of the sweetest things anyone’s ever done for me! Thank you Shawty Wop! [praying hands emoji] @yungmiami305.” Expect to hear much more about these two. Check out Diddy’s post below.

Boosie Badazz Thinks R. Kelly’s Sentence Is Too Long: “He Didn’t Kill Anyone”

Throughout R. Kelly’s scandal, the disgraced singer has maintained a strong support system. Whether it be his dedicated fanbase or his music industry peers, Kelly has been defended against allegations of child pornography, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse. The accusations against Kelly date way back to the 1990s and although he was charged then, he would be acquitted during trial.

However, Kelly did not have the same result in his recent cases. We’ve been reporting on the ongoing trials against Kelly and this week, we learned that Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

808 Mafia Producer, Southside, Calls Himself “Bob The Builder” When Talking About How Many BBLs He’s Paid For

Southside

Southside might be known for the beats he’s produced for artists such as Gucci Mane, Future, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and Drake, but he also might be known for something else in the streets.

The 808 Mafia co=founder and superproducer recently sat down with 92.3 L.A.’s The Cruz Show where he revealed that he’s “funded” 10 women’s BBLs (Brazilian Butt Lift) and refers to himself as “Bob The Builder.”

“[Am I a BBL] expert? No. Funder? Yes,” Southside said. “I got a list! Sh*t is crazy.” He was then asked how many women whose BBLs he has “funded” and responded, “10, for sure. I done got some girl’s t*tties did twice. I done got a girl’s t*tties did, got ’em big. But it was too big for her, got ’em redid again, got ’em small.” He then joked, “I call myself Bob the Builder.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Southside spoke on his “necessities” in the studio, saying that whenever he comes to a creative block while working on a beat, he goes in another room and has a woman waiting on him.

“I don’t rage [when making beats]; I just delete [a beat] and go in the room and go f*ck or something and then come back out and make some more sh*t,” he said. “I always got p*ssy waiting somewhere, that’s my thing. It’s a studio necessity.”

He went on to say how he respects women and considers himself “one of those new type of guys.” “Don’t get it f*cked up, I love women. I was raised by my momma and all her sisters and all her friends. My dad wasn’t really around when I was young so I love women. I’m one of them new type of guys, I don’t judge women. You not a h*e in my eyes, I don’t give a damn what you did. I just want to have a good time!”
