Young RJ of Slum Village says Kanye West inspired J Dilla’s iconic record, Donuts. Speaking with Shirley Ju, RJ recalled the video shoot for his group’s 2004 song “Selfish,” on which Kanye West and John Legend are featured. He says Dilla attended the shoot and was trolled for being up-staged by the then-up-and-coming Ye.

“He shows up to the video and we sitting back there. A guy named Scrap Dirty like, ‘Man, this your group and you gon’ let Kanye come through and do this? He killing the soul shit!’ Dilla’s sitting in the stands like, ‘Oh word? That’s what you think?’ He goes back… that’s when you get all the stuff that you heard on Donuts, all the soul stuff. He was making his point that, ‘I’m unf*ckwittable,’” RJ said.

Appearing in Stones Throw’s Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton documentary in 2013 for an interview that surfaced years later, Ye recalled meeting the legendary producer. “I met J Dilla at Common’s crib just down the street here in L.A. They were staying together, and I just remember looking at that MPC. And those drums came out of that MPC, arguably the best drums in hip-hop history,” he said. “I just remember vibing with him and having so much respect, and just wanting to work with him more.”

The Top Dawg Entertainment OG has spent a few years out of the limelight enjoying fatherhood and working on his golf game, but this Friday (March 1) he’s dropping Blue Lips after spending much of the month promoting it. Weissman really impressed us with his Bad News collaboration tape with Blu. So, we are naturally amped for this new project coming on March 29. We have no word on features or tracklist yet, but expect that to come later next month. This is also exciting because this is our first time covering Lukah and he really is someone we cannot wait to bring more of.

Druski Says He’s Skipping The Super Bowl in New Orleans to Avoid Seeing Birdman

Druski recently appeared on an episode of the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast. While there he spoke to Gillie and Wallo on a variety of topics, including next year’s Super Bowl. The game is taking place in New Orleans and they were curious of Dru would be attending. They got an answer they weren’t prepared for when he revealed that he wouldn’t be attending. When pressed on why he revealed that he didn’t want to run into Birdman or a handful of other artists he expects to be present.

Gillie and Wallo are clearly surprised by the answer. They press him further seeming to think there won’t be any real danger. Druski doubles down in his response but some fans in the comments think he might just be doing an elaborate joke. “this gotta be the most elaborate skit” and ““He ain’t in there is he??” 😭😭😭 I can’t tell if he’s joking or genuinely terrified” two comments on the post read. Others took him more seriously though. “so i guess he isnt really standing on buisness” reads one of the top comments, though the jokes comes up repeatedly.
