The Life & Legacy Of Luther Vandross

Without a doubt, Luther Vandross is a name that will be remembered in R&B, and the music industry at large, for years to come. For decades, his enchanting voice and unparalleled vocal range have captivated audiences. Even after his untimely death, Luther Vandross’ music continues to thrive in the hearts and ears of listeners old and new. It goes without saying that he was one of the most influential R&B artists of all time.

While people have never stopped listening to his music, Vandross’ name rarely ever comes up in discussions these days. However, following a recent incident at a Madonna concert, Luther Vandross has been trending. The Queen of Pop was recently under fire since she included Vandross’ photo in an AIDS/HIV tribute during her tour. This is because Luther Vandross actually died of a stroke, and did not have either disease. While Madonna faced backlash for the error, fans have since been refreshed with Vandross’ material. Here’s a look at the life and legacy of the quintessential R&B singer.

The Early Years

Born on April 20, 1951, Luther Vandross was raised in Manhattan until he was nine when his family moved to the Bronx. From an early age, he was immersed in the soulful sounds of gospel, blues, and R&B, and had an immense love for music. As a matter of fact, at the tender age of three, Vandross taught himself to play the piano by ear. Subsequently, the older he grew, the more his musical talent shone. His exceptional vocal abilities could not be denied and quickly caught the attention of those around him. However, while it was clear from a young age that he possessed a rare gift, it took a while before Vandross gained acclaim.

Luther Vandross’ Ascent

Luther Vandross’ journey to musical stardom is a testament to his unwavering dedication and unparalleled talent. He put in the work for years and years before he had his shot at being in the limelight. Before his official debut in the music industry, Luther Vandross worked extensively as a backing vocalist. Throughout the ‘70s, he supplied backing vocals for many prominent artists. These include Donna Summer, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder, among many others. In the late ‘70s, Luther Vandross became a member of a singing quartet called Luther. Together, the group released two albums, Luther (1976), and This Close To You (1977). Unfortunately, the group was dropped by their label, Cotillion Records, due to low album sales.

Subsequently, Vandross had another brief stint as the lead singer of the group Change. On April 16, 1980, the group released their debut album, The Glow of Love, to moderate commercial success. However, Luther Vandross left the group soon after, choosing to forge ahead as a solo artist. Not long afterward, he was signed to Epic Records, kickstarting his groundbreaking solo career.

Outstanding Musical Contributions

Right after his 30th birthday in 1981, Luther Vandross released “Never Too Much,” his debut solo single. Subsequently, on August 12, 1981, he dropped his debut solo album of the same name. The 2x Platinum album announced Luther Vandross to the world like nothing else ever had. It marked the beginning of a very successful and influential solo career for the singer. Altogether, he released 13 solo albums between 1981 and 2003, all of which had varying levels of success. Throughout his decades-long solo career, Luther Vandross garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success. Give Me The Reason (1986), Power Of Love (1991), Songs (1994), and Dance With My Father (2003) are among his best-selling albums. The latter is the last album Vandross released before he sadly passed away in 2005.

The Legacy Of Luther Vandross

There’s no argument that Luther Vandross is among the most iconic male singers in R&B history. Almost two decades after his death, his works continue to speak for him and prove his immense talent. While the world continues to mourn the loss of the singer, his legacy undoubtedly lives on through his timeless music. In life, the man was steadfast to his craft, and his love for music can be heard all over his songs. Luther Vandross made songs that will remain evergreen, and he will continue to be celebrated for that.

Andrew Tate Loses Appeal Over Asset Seizure, $17M Remains In Police Custody

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have lost their appeal to reclaim $17M worth of assets seized by Romanian law enforcement. As a result, the seized property will remain in police custody. As for the brothers themselves, they remain in police custody awaiting extradition to the United Kingdom. They have been charged with 21 counts of rape and sexual assault and will face trial in London.

Adin Ross recently apologized to Tate as the streamer, and disciple of Tate’s lifestyle brand, inadvertently got the influencer arrested. Ross had revealed on stream that Tate had told him that he was “planning to leave Romania and not come back”. This reached the Romanian authorities, who detained Tate for attempting to violate the conditions of his pre-trial release. However, Ross also noted that Tate had forgiven him and wanted the streamer to come to Romania to collaborate on some content. The veracity of this offer remains to be seen given the Tates’ impending extradition.

Andrew Tate & Elon Musk Turned Down Millions To “Sell Their Souls,” Influencer Claims

(Photo by DANIEL MIHAILESCU/AFP via Getty Images)

Elsewhere, Tate has cryptically claimed that he and Elon Musk turned down multi-million dollar payments to sell out. “I turned down 50m to sell my soul. All I had to do was shut up on certain subjects and sell trash to kids. I refused. Then I was arrested. Elon turned down 500m plus. Not many hero’s left. G,” Tate cryptically wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Tate did not specify who had offered the money or what he would have to stop speaking on to receive it. As a result, the post reads like a generic “deep state” conspiracy tweet. Later in the day, Tate reposted a post about the “new world order” from 2013.

Furthermore, people pointed out several hypocrisies. First, people noted that Tate is currently beefing with Musk because Musk seemingly ignored his offer to “advertise X on X” for $1M a month. Additionally, people noted that Musk had “sold out” in recent weeks. Musk went from a fierce advocate of Palestine to posting pro-Israel content and even touring Israel with government officials.

Future Fans Think He Dissed Drake On “We Don’t Trust You”

Future and Metro Boomin’s eagerly awaited collaborative album We Don’t Trust You has finally arrived, and fans are already hard at work dissecting each verse. On the second verse of the project’s title track, for example, Future goes in on an unnamed opp, leaving listeners to speculate. “You a n***a number one fan, dog/ Sneak dissin’, I don’t understand, dog/ Pillowtalkin’, actin’ like a fed, dog/ I don’t need another fake friend, dog/ Can’t be ’bout a ho, ’cause we sharin’, dog/ In you feelings, n***a, why you playin’, dog?” he rhymes.

Some Instagram users in Akademiks’ comments section suspect that the lyrics are aimed at Drake, as it’s rumored that the two MCs have had beef brewing for years. Many believe the repetition of “Dog” in Future’s verse is a reference to Drake’s For All The Dogs, and are digging up reasons why the former collaborators could be at war.

Future & Metro Boomin Drop New Collaborative Album

For one, fans think Drake delaying the release of What a Time to Be Alive 2 in favor of Her Loss with 21 Savage could have sparked some animosity. There’s also talk that Drake could have slept with Future’s girl at some point. Commenters even note that Future seemingly sided with Metro Boomin amid his rumored feud with Drake last year, indicating that there could be tension behind the scenes.

Future isn’t the only one believed to have gone after Drake on We Don’t Trust You, however. Kendrick Lamar appears on a track called “Like That,” and threw some pretty direct jabs at the Canadian hitmaker as well as J. Cole. “F**k sneak dissin’, first person shooter, I hope they came with three switches,” he raps. “I still got PTSD, motherf**k the big three, n***a, it’s just big me!” What do you think of Future and Metro Boomin’s new collaborative album? Who do you think Future dissed on “We Don’t Trust You”? What about the speculation it was Drake? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Cardi B Claps Back At Fans Who Criticized Her Flo Milli Remix

Cardi B has already dropped two new singles this year and is gearing up to drop her long awaited second album. But one of her most talked about performances may actually be a guest appearance on an already established hit. That came when she teamed up with Flo Milli and SZA for a special version of “Never Lose Me” that landed on Milli’s new album Fine Ho, Stay. The song was already a hit from earlier this year, partially propelled by a remix with Lil Yachty. This week it sits at number 34 on the Hot 100 and it’s expected to rise back up the charts with the new remix.

Despite the success of the song, Cardi B remembers people’s initial reaction to it. In a video she recently shared to her Instagram story she calls out the haters who claimed she wouldn’t “fit in” on the song. The evidence she brings up is pretty hard to dispute. She mentions the hundreds of thousands of people using her audio from the song on TikTok as evidence that people like the song. The track has already racked up more than 5 million streams on Spotify in a week as well. Check out the video of Cardi refuting fan critiques below.
