Omar Gooding Recalls Shooting “Baby Boy” With Snoop Dogg On “BagFuel”

On this week’s episode of BagFuel, E$SO and Hynaken chopped it up with Omar Gooding, 44-year old actor and rapper, who happens to be the younger brother of Cuba Gooding Jr., as well as his music producer ATG. The two are fresh off a release, and discuss Omar’s journey with music, how his acting career was beneficial, the influence of east and west coast rappers, and filming Baby Boy with Snoop Dogg in 2001.

Following the release of Omar and ATG’s new record “Entourage,” Hynaken commented that he enjoys the fact that he’s able to hear the words in the song in contrast to some rappers today who “mumble.” Omar, instantly fired up about the topic, shared the importance of “diction” and how his natural gift gave him an advantage as both an actor and a rapper.

“I have very clear diction which got me a lot of work. I was able to go into these auditions, speak a little clearer, and read their lines and I would beat people out so forth and so on,” Gooding said. “That carried on into my music.”

Gooding continued, citing the 90’s group Fu-Schnickens as the artists who made him want to dissect words and focus on annunciation in songs. However, he also noted that Tupac and Biggie were two of the most influential people for him when it came to navigating the music industry.

“Tupac and Biggie… that was it for us,” Omar said. “For me, I went from east coast roots, west coast rap, and then Tupac and Biggie came together and that was it for me. I knew my direction as far as hip-hop.”

On the topic of west coast rappers, Hynaken joked by asking if Snoop Dogg had ever forgiven Omar for how he “bodied” him in the John Singleton-directed film, Baby Boy, and praised him for his acting skills in the role of Sweetpea.

“When I got that script looking at it backward and forward, that’s the role that I would take no matter what, hands down,” Omar said while reminiscing on the movie. The rapper went on to say he would have never taken the lead role, because the character he played had so many parallels to his life that many people don’t know about.

Omar continued to discuss Snoop’s role in the film, revealing, “We filmed the movie, showed it to a couple of audiences, and the criticism that they kept giving was why did we kill Snoop Dogg so badly? What y’all saw was reshoots. We reshot the scene and killed him a little kinder and added shit that people in the movie didn’t see.” Gooding explained, “The whole prayer scene, the drive-by that happened at Sweetpea’s house, none of that was in the original movie. We added that so we had real reason to run him down.”

Benny The Butcher & Harry Fraud Serve Up “Thanksgiving” Visuals

Early reports are in, and many are already speculating that Benny The Butcher and Harry Fraud’s upcoming collaboration project The Plugs I Met 2  will end up lining plenty of best-of lists. Lead single “Thanksgiving” already sends a strong message, and now Benny and Fraud have come through to deliver some accompanying visuals for the track.

Off the top, it’s clear that director The Wizard is moving to tell a story, opening “Thanksgiving” with Benny’s people hearing word that the rapper had been shot. As the song kicks in, Benny returns to his formative neighborhood, surrounded by those very same loyal day-ones who continuously have his back. The camera captures a raw handheld aesthetic throughout, enhanced by shots of Benny as the plug, surrounded by goons and firearms.

An equally welcome sight is The Butcher standing on his own two, a sign that bodes well for his recovery progress. We can only hope that Benny continues to heal, as he’ll have no shortage of new material to bring on tour once some semblance of normalcy returns to the live music industry. In the meantime, check out the new video for “Thanksgiving,” and stay tuned for Benny The Butcher and Harry Fraud to deliver their new musica, The Plugs I Met 2, this Friday, March 19th.

Tristan Thompson Could Be Traded To Toronto: Report

Tristan Thompson was a major key when it came to the success of the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the LeBron James days, Thompson was one of those players you could always count on and when he became a free agent this past offseason, there were plenty of teams who were interested. One of those teams was the Boston Celtics, who signed Thompson to a two-year deal worth $19 million.

Now, however, it seems like the two sides might be moving on at the trade deadline. In a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, it was revealed that the Celtics are thinking of moving Thompson and the trade could even be within the Eastern Conference. The team that is most heavily rumored at this stage is the Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors have been having some issues with their big-men this season and bringing in someone like Tristan Thompson would certainly be a great move. So far, the Celtics star is averaging 7.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, and the Raptors could use someone to add to their depth, especially with the playoffs just a few months away.

The trade deadline takes place on March 25th, so keep it locked to HNHH for more updates coming through from the NBA world.

Elton John Blasts The Catholic Church For Being Against Gay Marriage While Simultaneously Raking In Cash From Its Investment In ‘Rocketman’

Elton John warned that he would “hit someone” if Phoebe Bridgers didn’t win a Grammy, and now it appears that “someone” was the Holy See. The musician and biopic-haver very publicly called out the Catholic Church on Monday in a tweet that included some expertly-crafted screenshots that detailed the relationship the church has with his own life.

Namely, John is mad that the Catholic Church is staunchly against gay marriage but is more than willing to profit off of his story by investing in Rocketman, the 2019 film based on his life.

“How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin’, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in ‘Rocketman’ – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David??” John wrote in the tweet, which included the #hypocrisy hashtag.

The screenshots in the tweet show headlines from representative stories on the topic, starting with a decree from Monday that reaffirmed the Church’s stance against gay marriage. That was apparently enough for John to remind the Vatican that its finances are, well, complicated. And as the Daily Beast reported, and John pointed out via screenshot, that includes funding the film Rocketman.

But the most curious item on the report to come out so far is a $4.5 million expenditure recorded in February of this year related to finance for the 2019 films Men in Black: International and Elton John’s rather steamy biopic Rocketman, which portrays the entertainer’s drug problems and is the first studio movie to portray gay sex between men in an authentic way.

While investing in mainstream entertainment is hardly sinful, the great contradiction is that the Catholic Church preaches to the devout that homosexuality is a sin.

You could argue, if you really wanted to stretch yourself here, that the church is also supporting extraterrestrial life. But unlike Men in Black, Rocketman was very much based on real life and a very real gay love story. And the connection John is making here is clear: gay marriage is more than okay for the church as long as it’s part of an investment that makes them a bunch of money to continue saying gay marriage is not morally okay.

The Daily Beast story is from 2019, so this has been public knowledge for a while now, but John is highlighting again today because of the re-affirmation of the stance against gay marriage. He has pretty clearly had it with the Church’s ongoing position on an issue that’s very important to him. John fittingly tagged @VaticanNews in the tweet, so hopefully, the Roman city will get the memo that he’s not happy.

Tiffany Haddish Disses Nicki Minaj In Alleged Leaked Clubhouse Audio

Signing up for Clubhouse might not have been the best move for comedian/actor Tiffany Haddish, who continues to find her name being dragged in the media because of things she says on the app. A few weeks ago, Tiffany was accused of peddling COVID-19 conspiracy theories and bullying people on Clubhouse, and this week, her alleged recent comments about Nicki Minaj are going viral.

While the app looks to prevent users from screen-recording conversations and sharing them on other social media platforms, Clubhouse’s methods to prevent audio from leaking haven’t been ultra-successful so far. Case in point, Tiffany Haddish’s comments about Nicki Minaj supposedly being disrespectful.

The Bad Trip actress was reportedly exposed for her comments on the app after someone said she was the “Nicki Minaj of comedy”. While the remark was meant to be praise, other users took it the wrong way, shading Nicki for allegedly showing up late to events before Tiffany added her own two cents. “And unlike Nicki, I treat everyone with respect and dignity,” she said, which her co-moderators agreed with.

Tiffany has crossed paths with Nicki on a few different occasions, presenting her an award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, and posing for pictures with the rapper at the Met Gala in the same year. Clearly, those meet-ups left her with a sour taste in her mouth.

This isn’t the first time that somebody has accused Nicki Minaj of being rude or disrespectful. While Minaj’s fans are writing off Tiffany Haddish after this, the comedian has plenty of supporters who are backing her up after the audio leaked. Haddish has not commented on the leak herself.
