Jorja Smith & T-Pain Hold Down Our “R&B Season” Playlist

Another week, another R&B Season playlist update with a few necessary recent releases from the genre’s brightest stars. To kick things off, Jorja Smith emerged with her latest body of work, Be Right Back. The UK songstress’s new project serves as her follow-up to her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. Be Right Back largely finds Jorja shining on a solo tip. “Home,” produced by Ed Thomas,” was an immediate highlight that you’re guaranteed to have on repeat for the weeks to come.

Following a rather off Instagram Live session with Mark Zuckenberg regarding his request inbox, T-Pain unveiled a brand new single for the fans with some assistance from Kehlani. The record flips his classic record “Buy U A Drank” with an updated banger for 2021. There’s no doubt that this collaboration with Kehlani and T-Pain will live on throughout this summer. The song was co-produced by DJ Montay and T-Pain. Hopefully, it’s a sign that Pain got some more heat in the stash for the summer.

Other additions on this week’s R&B Season playlist include up-and-comer Jenevieve who dropped off her latest single, “Eternal” this week. Additionally, we have Mereba’s latest single, “Rider.”

Leon Bridges Goes On A Nighttime Joyride On New Single “Motorbike”

Leon Bridges is one of the best artists in the soul and r&b space right now. If you’ve listened to his output over the years, then you can see why such a conclusion could be reached. He is always pushing his sound forward and later this year, he has plans for a brand new album called Gold-Diggers Sound. Bridges have been teasing the project with some new songs, including a song that features Lucky Daye. Now, he is back with “Motorbike” which his latest effort to hit streaming services.

This new track features a stripped-back instrumental all while Bridges allows himself to carry the song with his voice. These laid-back and smooth vocals suit the track perfectly and throughout the song, Bridges sings about taking a girl on a motorbike ride where they will simply enjoy the night, regardless of where they may end up. It’s a romantic song that should prove to be an immediate hit with the r&b crowd.

Quotable Lyrics:

We don’t stop, but the time do
Lovers in another life, let me remind you
Look back, see me behind you
When it feels good you don’t have to try to

Larry June Returns With Smooth Cut “Wait On Me”

Larry June had a highly productive year last year musically. He unleashed numerous different collaborative projects like Game Related with Cardo at the top of the year, Payroll Giovanni and HBK Kid, Cruise USA with Cardo in the summertime, and Keep Going with Harry Fraud in the fall. He also unleashed his studio album Adjust to the Game in March of that year. He squeezed in one last project “Numbers” before the year concluded as well.

Following up his colossal 2020, he’s been relatively quiet since then. He broke his silence with his latest single “Wait On Me.” The new track offers a vulnerable June vocalizing his infatuation with a lover. In addition to announcing the new single, June also revealed that his first album of 2021 is set to arrive on June 11th.

Alongside the track, June debuted an accompanying visual where he lounges with friends on a luxurious yacht indulging in the finer things in life.

Give “Wait On Me” a listen and let us know what you think of Larry June’s latest offering.

I still believe in miracles, but go hard as I can

Mac Ayres Seeks The Perfect Vibes On Lovely New Track “Smoke”

Mac Ayres has been one of the most beloved artists in r&b over the years and it is very easy to see why. The artist knows how to play his own instruments and his voice is extremely smooth and blissful. It’s these attributes that have attracted fans to Ayres’ music and recently, he has been able to remain consistent with his releases. For example, Ayres blessed his fans on Friday with a brand new track called “Smoke” which is full of vibes.

With whimsical guitar licks and an atmospheric feel, “Smoke” sets the scene for a chilled-out jam session in which Ayres pours his heart out. Throughout the song, he seems to be in the midst of smoking with someone all while trying to work out his feelings. This juxtaposition adds some depth to the song and his performances help bring the instrumental to a whole other level. “Smoke” is going to find its way onto a lot of r&b playlists soon, and it should certainly be added to yours.

Quotable Lyrics:

Well I don’t cry anymore (Yeah)
I’ve been waiting to see
Just how long I could go
Before my feelings got a hold on me

Enchanting Recruits Coi Leray For “Freaky Deaky”

Enchanting is one of Gucci Mane’s 1017 Eskimo Gang imprint’s latest signees. The relative newcomer’s label mates include the likes of “Back in Blood” artist Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano, who both have experienced relative commercial success since under the label. The 22-year-old Fort Worth, TX native has made a name for herself by rapping in a whisper tone and flow that can best be described as “enchanting.”

2018’s Enchanted marked the last full-length offering from the artist. This year, she released her single “Want Sum,” a seeming introduction into a new era for the 1017 Eskimo artist. Following up “Want Sum,” Enchanting tapped Coi Leray for her latest offering “Freaky Deaky.” She generated buzz around the single earlier in the week by sharing a preview of the track across her social media, teasing the previously anonymous feature.

Bringing her signature whisper-cadence to life on the track, her relaxed bars over the lively trap beat is a refreshing experience. Enchanting does most of the heavy lifting on the track, while Leray joins in to deliver a verse in the song’s latter half.

Quotable Lyrics

I ain’t running
Ain’t no track meet
I’ll have him sweating like an athlete
They heard about my rap sheet

J. Cole Had Three Points And Two Assists In His Basketball Africa League Debut

It’s been a busy week for J. Cole, as he dropped his latest album, The Off-Season, to rave reviews last Thursday night and on Sunday, he made his debut in the new Basketball Africa League for Patriots Basketball Club in what turned into an 83-60 win for Cole’s squad in their season opener.

Cole has made clear his desire to make it in the basketball world for some time, and not just as a friend to NBA players and someone who name-checks his superstar friends on albums — although, to be clear, he does that too. Cole wants to prove he’s a real hooper and to show his commitment he tried out for and made the Rwandan squad in the new BAL. His debut was rather unspectacular, but he did get on the board with a putback bucket on a follow in transition for his first professional points.

He finished the game with three points, three rebounds, two assists, and three turnovers, doing the little things and not trying to impose his will too much. While he’s the superstar name on the team and in the league, J. Cole seems to understand and embrace being a role player for the Patriots. He’s happy to play defense, set screens, and try to space the floor for his teammates, while creating and taking opportunities when he can. Brandon Costner, former NC State star and a journeyman who’s played in the G League, China, and elsewhere, led the way for the Patriots with 20 points while Rwandan national Dieudonne Ndizeye added 13 points and six rebounds in the win.

Cole looks like another guy out there, which should be taken as a massive compliment. He doesn’t look wildly out of place with some really, really good basketball players, and for a 36-year-old who’s never played professionally otherwise, it’s a credit to him and the work he’s put in that he’s capable of doing that.

Danny Brown Takes It Back To “The Ends”

Detroit’s having a much-deserved moment in the rap game. Much like how cities like Atlanta and Chicago have created a distinct sound that’s true to their city, D-Town is similarly having a rise. However, its diversity is its strength. While many of the city’s most talented acts have been dominating the club, Detroit is still a hub for quality underground hip-hop which Danny Brown has been highlighting through his Bruiser Brigade imprint.

On Friday, Brown returned with a new compilation album from the label which includes four new songs from the rapper himself. Closing out the project is a new solo offering from Brown titled, “The Ends.” Produced by Playa Haze, Danny Brown’s funky flow and nasally voice details the streets of his city. Brown’s penmanship is sharp on this one, giving us hope that a new project is on the way.

Peep the song below.

Quotable Lyrics
I don’t really wanna do this but you left me with no option
I’mma just eat your food, and leave you left on somewhere starvin’
Why you wanna hit me jack like that, you know you push my button
Line, talkin’ ’bout what it is but in reality, it’s nothin’
