Aaliyah Lives On Through Hits Like “More Than A Woman”

Twenty years removed from the release of Aaliyah’s third studio album, an eponymous masterpiece that features no shortage of timeless hits, the project’s legacy continues to live on. Originally having dropped on July 7th, 2001, featuring production from her longtime collaborator Timbaland and more, the project remains an essential chapter of her legacy. Alas, it has yet to make the transition to streaming services, though her many fans remain hopeful that the day will finally come.

In honor of the late singer’s memory, we’d like to highlight one of the project’s many highlights, the Timbaland-produced “More Than A Woman.” It’s a relic of a bygone era, capturing a sound that has largely — and perhaps sadly — moved on. Still, there’s a reason this one remains in rotation to this day, a testament to the universal appeal of Aaliyah’s music. Be sure to give it a spin in honor of the late singer’s anniversary, and show some love to her self-titled album in the comments below.

Midnight grindin’, heart rate’s climbin’
You go, I go, ’cause we share pillows
Chase me, leave me, there’s still no separating
Morning massages with new bones in your closet

Lil Baby Responds To Logan Paul Saying He’ll Only Last Another Year

We’ve watched Atlanta rapper Lil Baby elevate to become one of the most well-known hip-hop artists in the entire world in the last few years. He continues to outdo himself with each new project or single that he releases, and his feature run has been solid too. One of the most in-demand musicians right now, it really feels like Baby will be around the music business for a while. Some of his critics though, including YouTuber Logan Paul, believe that he’ll only stick around for another year before fizzling out.

During a recent podcast appearance, Logan Paul spoke about the current state of hip-hop his favorite artists. He showed love to the new class of rappers breaking out but was harsh when it came to Lil Baby, saying, “I’ma say it right now, Lil Baby, he’ll pop up on my Spotify, I think [because he just dropped an album], I’m scrolling through and I can’t… I can’t get away from Lil Baby songs. And I’m all for the new artists but this one, in particular, I have no idea what he’s saying. I have none. And it all sounds the same, his tone is the same, it’s all the same. I give him a year.”

Logan has been missing out on some pretty poignant storytelling, considering he isn’t making an effort to hear what Lil Baby is saying in his songs.

Lil Baby actually responded to the criticism, tweeting “Logan Who?” before correcting the YouTuber. “More like give em a year to have 100ms,” he wrote.”

Other rap fans have hailed Baby as one of the best artists from the younger generation, predicting that he’s here to stay. Do you think he’ll only last another year before people start losing interest, or will he be here for the long haul?

21 Savage Reflects On The Four-Year Anniversary Of His Debut Album

On July 7, 2017, 21 Savage unleashed his debut album Issa Album, and this week, the project celebrates its four-year anniversary. Since the album was preceded by life-changing projects like Slaughter King and the Metro Boomin-assisted Savage Mode, there were a lot of high expectations for 21’s official studio debut, and upon its release, Issa Album was met with warm reception.

“Can’t believe it’s been 4 years man thanks to my fans slaughter gang don’t play…,” 21 Savage writes in the post’s caption. “I love y’all 4L y’all turned a meme into 8 figures…what was y’all favorite song ???”

Although its title was derived from 21 Savage’s viral “Issa knife” moment during a 2016 interview with DJ Vlad, Issa Album wasn’t a joke of an album. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200, and as 21’s recent post reveals, the platinum-certified album spawned several commercially successful singles as well. “Bank Account,” the album’s second track, went on to reach sextuple platinum status, and there were several gold-certified singles on Issa Album as well, including “Numb,” “Bad Business,” “Facetime,” “Famous,” and “Whole Lot.”

Listen to 21 Savage’s meme-inspired debut album here, and check out “Bank Account,” the biggest song from Issa Album, below. Four years later, what was your favorite track from the project and how does the 14-track effort compare to 21’s more recent work?

Rick Ross Shares Classy “Richer Than I’ve Ever Been” Snippet

With ten studio albums under his belt, Rick Ross has certainly built up quite an impressive discography. Does Renzel have a classic album to his name? It’s a thought-provoking question, though no matter where you might stand on it, Ross has solidified himself as a hip-hop legend either way.

He does appear gung-ho on delivering something undeniable with Richer Than I’ve Ever Been, his upcoming studio album slated to be released later this year. Luckily, Ross has been relatively generous with the snippets, revealing a promising glimpse of what’s to come.

First, he shared a smooth preview of an Isaac Hayes sampling cut. Next came a nostalgic duet with the late Notorious B.I.G, which was put together under the watchful eye of Diddy. Now, Rozay has come through with yet another teaser, this one built around sample with which he’s already quite familiar; Mac Miller’s Faces track “Insomiak,” which features Rick Ross on guest vocals.

Unlike that track, this one is a little less urgent, giving Rozay space to kick some introspective bars. “Richer than I’ve ever been,” he raps, achieving title in the opening lines. “Thought it make a lot of sense / assume I was an honor student, now I deal with politics / fired all the managers, thought it made a lot of sense / manifest, now I’m making all the chips.”

Based on the subject matter, it’s entirely possible that we’re looking at the album’s introduction. If that is indeed the case, what a tone it would set. Check out the track below and sound off if you think Rick Ross is about to deliver a classic with Richer Than I’ve Ever Been.
