Latto Takes Kodak Black’s ‘Super Gremlin’ For A Freestyle Spin

Just last week, Latto was parading around with a goat while rocking a jewel-studded bikini holding a goat. You don’t have to think too long about the imagery to get what the Atlanta rapper was trying to say about her rise. But the Uproxx December cover star made it clear in our feature that she’s no fluke and has put in the work since day one to get to where she’s at:

“I’ve been rapping since eight years old… You know how people be like, ‘Oh, I’ve been rapping since I was two years old. Like, my momma put a microphone in my hand and I used to dance in front of the TV?’ No, I’m talking about full-blown, going to the studio, dropping music videos, promoting mixtapes, passing out mixtapes out the trunk of my daddy car. I had a whole career at eight years old. So, it’s the time that I’ve put into it. That’s where people be saying, ‘Oh my God, what is it?’ It’s just I’ve been doing it forever.”

Today, Latto just shared the “Super Gremlin Freestyle,” which rides the beat of Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin.” As she’s done in the past, Latto totally dominates on this freestyle and asserts the charting status of her album Queen of Da Souf with the line: “Got in my Pop bag just for the hell of it / Now I’m Top 40 but y’all was just laughin’.” And in the video, the jeweled bikini and goat photoshoot comes to life, along with a studio session and bills on bills.

DMX Recorded A Gospel Rap Double Album While Under Constant Surveillance In Arizona

Although DMX’s final album was this year’s haunting Exodus, which featured appearances from Jay-Z and Nas, the Griselda crew, and more, it turns out that there’s another full album from the late, great rap pioneer floating around. Titled Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later, it was a double album recorded in 2008 while DMX lived in Arizona, with one side consisting of his usual gritty rap and the second consisting of profanity-free gospel rap. According to a new feature in Rolling Stone, the album was actually completed, but later shelved in the wake of a police raid of his home.

According to Rolling Stone, while living in Arizona, DMX was subject to a campaign of harassment by the then-Sheriff of Maricopa County. Subjects interviewed said that DMX lived under a state of constant surveillance and was arrested multiple times for relatively minor infractions, most related to traffic incidents or parole violations stemming from his 2007 arrest for animal cruelty. Unfortunately, a stint in prison for those charges left him unable to promote a release of the album, and by the time he was free to do so, the label that had bankrolled it, Bodog Music, had been shut down. A Canadian label called Her Royal Majesty’s Records wound up with the album rights to Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later, but due to DMX’s history, was unwilling to commit resources to a proper release.

Some of the songs have since leaked in low-quality YouTube uploads. The rights bounced around, from Seven Arts Entertainment, which released DMX’s album Undisputed in 2012, to a Canadian businessman named Howard Mann who won the rights at an auction when Seven Arts executives were convicted of tax fraud (maybe Issa Rae was right, after all). Meanwhile, DMX’s estate considers Mann pretty untrustworthy as well, saying through their attorney, “Howard Mann has no authority that we’re aware of and hasn’t shown us anything to reflect that he owns any music that DMX recorded. He has absolutely nothing to do with the estate and, to the extent that he has DMX’s music, the estate has not authorized the use of DMX’s name and likeness.”

Seven Years After Its Release, J. Cole’s ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ Is Still On The ‘Billboard’ 200

On December 9th, 2014, J. Cole’s monumental 2014 Forest Hills Drive was released and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Suffice it to say, a lot has happened in the time since for Cole, who frequently finds himself in the mix of a lot of people’s contemporary rap Mt. Rushmore debates. Cole has claimed 15 Grammy nominations (yielding one win) and all six of his albums have hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, but none can match the unfathomable success of 2014 Forest Hills Drive, which has now been on the charts for a whopping 367 straight weeks (as HipHopDX points out).

In fact, it’s actually still in the top 100, currently clocking in at No. 80, humorously down a spot from No. 79 last week. It’s a certified triple-Platinum album — with no features, naturally. Both “No Role Modelz” and “Wet Dreamz” are Platinum songs on their own and the album is Cole’s undisputed crown jewel. This all comes on the heels of Cole’s latest album, The Off-Season, getting Platinum status as of last week — with features from 21 Savage, 6lack, Lil Baby, Bas, and Morray.

When the 64th Grammy Awards ceremony takes place on January 31st, 2022, Cole will be in the running for four awards: Best Rap Album (for The Off-Season, of course), Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song (for “My Life” featuring 21 Savage and Morray), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (for “Pride Is The Devil” featuring Lil Baby). We’ll see if this time his Grammy success will stack up to his Billboard dominance.

Christian Wood Nails Fan In The Head After Wild Pass

Christian Wood has been a shining light on the Houston Rockets over the past couple of years, even if the team itself has been pretty bad. Last night, the Rockets were in Charlotte playing the Hornets, and they ended up getting blown out of the water by over 20 points. It was so bad, that the biggest highlight for the Rockets came at the expense of an innocent fan who just wanted to get back to their seat.

As you can see in the video posted below, Wood was trying to pass the ball down the court, but he ended up missing pretty badly. Instead, Wood sent the ball into the crowd where he drilled a woman in the head. She was pretty taken aback by the whole thing and even got some attention from staff before moving on.

Following the match, Wood was very apologetic about the ordeal, and even took to his Instagram story where he wrote “happens to the best of us.” He also claimed that the woman could have courtside tickets to any Rockets game of her choice. Needless to say, a pretty good deal for just a moment of discomfort.

Hopefully, the woman is able to avoid a concussion. As for Wood, we’re sure he’ll be extra careful about how he passes the ball next time.

Ari Fletcher Explains Viral Photo Of MoneyBagg Yo With Plastic Surgeon

Memphis rapper MoneyBagg Yo did not get a tummy tuck or a BBL — he simply got his teeth done, says his girlfriend Ari Fletcher after a photo of the big stepper with a plastic surgeon started circulating on the internet.

There is presently a picture surfacing on social media of MoneyBagg Yo with Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Dr. Desai. Many have joked that the rapper went and got butt implants or a tummy tuck to start off the new year with a new body but, according to Ari Fletcher, that’s not the case. He simply went to his dentist and Dr. Desai works out of the same building, so they took a flick before leaving.

“Bagg went to get his teeth done and the doctors work in the same building. Just a picture, relax. Lol,” she wrote on Twitter, clearly fed up with all the jokes and memes. If there’s anything about Ari, it’s that she’s gonna clear up those rumors once they get to her.

This must have been a scheduled check-up for Bagg, who freshened up his look with new teeth at the top of last year. Over a year has passed with his new smile so he likely just went for a cleaning or some minor dental work.

Check out the photo below and Ari’s explanation.

Jordan Clarkson Held Back After Trying To Confront Spurs Fan

Fan interactions in the NBA have been quite testy ever since fans were allowed back in the arenas last year. Many supporters have not stayed on their best behavior, and it has forced the NBA to take action against certain individuals. Last night, the NBA had a new situation on its hands, this time in San Antonio as a fan got into it with Jordan Clarkson.

As you can see in the video below, a fan tried to yell at Clarkson as the Utah Jazz star came back to the bench. Clarkson didn’t like what was being said and looked as though he was going to confront the fan. Instead, Clarkson was held back by his teammates all while the Spurs fan was taken out of the arena.

After the game, Clarkson noted that he felt like the fan had crossed a very obvious line with his remarks.

“The guy just keeps antagonizing me, like almost challenges me, like, ‘What you going to do?'” Clarkson said. “Fans got to learn, we human. We people too. […] It did cross the line. I was walking away initially, and then he said something again. And, I turned back around and then he said it again. And, I’m just like, ‘What’s going on?!'”

It remains to be seen if the fan will be banned for life, however, based on previous precedents, it could very well be an option that the league is looking at.

Danny Brown Talks New Album “Quaranta,” Praises Freddie Gibbs’ Comedy & More

2021 marked 10-years since Danny Brown made his formal entrance into hip-hop consciousness with the career-defining XXX – a 19-song album capturing the rapper’s life to date. It wasn’t his debut album but it served as a comprehensive breakdown into Danny Brown’s ever-eccentric world, although he’s since simmered down on the Adderall and Molly.

Fans expected a new album from Danny to mark the 10-year anniversary, though he’s been in the cut this year. He revealed that a new album titled Quaranta  – Italian for ‘forty’ – is practically cheffed up with a slew of producers, including The Alchemist.

In the 10 years since his emergence, Danny Brown has undoubtedly opened the doors for other MCs with an aberrant approach to the craft. Rico Nasty, for example, might not fall directly from the tree of Danny Brown, but they share plenty of similarities. That’s why Danny didn’t necessarily look at joining her in Red Bull’s SoundClash in Chicago as anything competitive.

“It feels like we have a lot of similarities. It’s blatantly right in front of everybody! As far as the look and the voice. I think we’re the same s**t, to be honest. We can be like Batman and Batgirl or some s**t,” he said before letting out his signature cackle hours before hitting the stage with Rico. “I feel like this is more of a – I wouldn’t say like a passing-the-torch-kind of thing, but like me recognize her and she recognizes me. You know, like OG, you know what I’m saying? Like, ‘You the one, now.’”

Ahead of Red Bull’s SoundClash with Danny Brown and Rico Nasty, the Motor City heavyweight shared his thoughts on his opposite for the evening, appearing at Freddie Gibbs’ comedy show, and addresses Dave Chappelle’s skit on Big Sean’s Detroit 2

HNHH: This Rico Nasty face-off makes a lot of sense to me. She’s as eccentric as you are. For yourself, what similarities do you see in her? If there are any.

Danny Brown: It feels like we have a lot of similarities. It’s blatantly right in front of everybody! As far as the look and the voice. I think we’re the same s**t, to be honest. We can be like Batman and Batgirl or some s**t. What is it? Catwoman? I don’t know. It’ll be like that. What are the similarities between Batman and Catwoman? You get what I’m sayin’. The same s**t. She’s a f***ing superhero. I’m happy to be doing this with her.

You’re someone who is always early on artists. How did you get put onto her music?

I don’t know. I think Twitter. A lot of how you get put on shit. But, I actually think just somebody sent it to me and was like, “You need to work with her.” Then I looked and did my homework, and was like, “Yeah, she is kind of the same s**t.” So, I followed her and we’ve been cool ever since. We never got any music done, but I hope to one day.

You’ve been a supporter of Grime and clashes out there and all that. Is that something that you even studied going into all this?

No, because this is Rico. I feel like this is more of a – I wouldn’t say like a passing-the-torch-kind of thing, but like me recognize her and she recognizes me. You know, like OG, you know what I’m saying? Like, ‘You the one, now.’ I totally get why it works with people and s**t. I’m not in a competitive mode with it. I just really want this to go well and to put on a show for the people because it’s going to be fun. The way they have the s**t setup, it should be fun.

I’m guessing you probably haven’t been performing a whole lot?

No, I did the Gathering. I played at the Pitchfork Fest. I have my own Bruiser for Thanksgiving. I’m terrible right now. So, I’m doing a lot of rehearsing. It’s my first fight back.

I don’t know if you remember our [last] interview, you were probably doing so many. You were mentioning to me that you had to relearn how to rap. So with this, is it like relearning –

No, performing isn’t learning how to rap. It’s just rapping. It’s actually just rapping. The thing is I have a lot of old music. Some of the songs I’m playing are like ten years old now. I know the new s**t like, it ain’t s**t. But, the old s**t is harder to retain in the memory like that. I always have to refresh my memory and practice.

This year, Bruiser Brigade been going crazy with it. It’s cool because it’s a very interesting time for Detroit’s music scene – well, it has been for the past few years. You’re starting to hear other regions tap in with Helluva and take a lot of the sound.

Now, it’s just a like Midwest sound. The whole Midwest does it now. Ohio. Indiana. I’ve heard Milwaukee. Wisconsin. So, it’s a Midwest thing, at this point. It’s tight that we were able to influence the whole s**t, though, and give us our sound. Everybody has their sound like the West coast has a sound. East coast has a sound. South has a sound. Midwest never had a sound, we were always all over the place, kinda. Now, I feel like that’s the direct, distinct Midwestern sound now that every hood in every f***ing city in the Midwest has somebody that makes music like that.

For yourself, what do you think Bruiser Brigade represents in the soundscape in Detroit right now?

We’re the average, blue-collar working folks. We represent the kids of the GM’s and the Ford parents. That generation is kind of gone. So, it’s just the hardworking, blue-collar, regular man. We ain’t trying to be the extra gangsters. We ain’t trying to be the extra dope boys, flashy and all that. We come from Chrysler. We work at the plant, but we just happen to rap. That old Motown-style of doing s**t and the way they make records. We come from that.

Just to pivot away from the music. Over the past few years, you have been getting deeper into the acting and deeper into comedy. You and Gibbs, didn’t you guys host?

Oh no, he had a comedy show in Austin and I just came out.

How was that? You guys have great chemistry.

It was great. Freddie’s so f***ing funny. I didn’t know he was that great on stage, though. Anybody can be funny around the homies. So, I kinda like I wanted to see it because I was like, “I think I can do it, too. Let me see.” Freddie’s got it. He definitely can do comedy if he wanted to.

How was the reception for you? You did a set, right?

It was great. I opened up for Hannibal. That’s nerve-wracking. The s**t is hard. I would say it’s 100x harder than doing rap. I’m just a student of a game, I would say right now. I’m very lucky and honored to be hanging around them motherf***ers and being able to soak up game for the last few years. I’ll hit my stride with it soon.

On the comedy, Dave Chappelle kind of immortalized you getting him high. I wanted to ask, what was your reaction to hearing him do your voice on that Big Sean record?

It was funny, but I ain’t like that s**t, man [laughs] because that ain’t the true story [laughs]. I’ll tell my side in my stand-up set.

The final question I have for you, you announced the final name of the project, Quaranta. I had to Google it to figure out that it was Italian for 40. Are we getting back into a Mafiosa sound with this one?

[Laughs] That’s tight. I mean, nah. Just playing on words and s**t. It’s just pretty much like an update of what I’ve been going through the last ten years after XXX. That’s pretty much what it is.

Q-Tip’s involved in this one, too?

Nah.

Producer-wise, can you drop a one-two hint?

It’s just all over the place. It’s a lot of people. You know I guess, The Alchemist is on there. I guess, that’s it. That’s cool. It ain’t no surprise, I feel like.

Dope. Final words?

It’s going to be fun. I’m nervous.

Nicki Minaj’s 1-Year-Old Son Already Has A Better Car Collection Than Most People

It was a very special Christmas for Nicki Minaj, Kenny Petty, and their son “Papa Bear.” Celebrating her little one’s second Christmas with her family, Nicki Minaj spoiled her one-year-old son, gifting him some of the most sought-after toys this holiday season.

The Queen usually has her entire family matching her in head-to-toe Burberry, Fendi, or another luxurious designer. As the drip-loving family celebrated Christmas over the weekend, Minaj shared videos of some of Papa Bear’s presents, showing off his new wheels.

He’ll only be legally allowed to drive in a decade and a half but Nicki and Kenny are already getting their son ready for the road with style, prepping him for the spotlight with a mini Lamborghini vehicle and a Mercedes-Benz for him to drive around the house, and in the yard. Papa Bear, who is walking now, excitedly gave his baby Lambo a spin before running out to his Benz, having a difficult time choosing between the two.

“I’m in dem cabinets. U babies neva there. Playin wit Tupperware. Plates say #PapaBEAR,” jokingly wrote Nicki as her caption, imagining her son as a future rapper.

What do you think of Papa Bear’s new car collection? Pretty strong for a one-year-old, right?

‘Jeopardy!’ Contestants (Even Champ Amy Schneider) Drew A Total Blank On A Machine Gun Kelly Question (That Had Viewers Rolling)

Jeopardy! has been roaring back into regular-play action following the two-week professor tournament, but Monday night’s episode got a little strange. Don’t worry, Amy Schneider kicked overall ass again (she’s up to over $700,000 in winnings, and she’s the current top-earning woman in the show’s history and fourth overall champ), but one question stumped everyone while amusing the hell out of the audience.

Here’s what happened: Ken Jennings was doing his co-hosting thing when he dropped this question: “The stage name of this rapper and actor gets shortened to MGK.” Even Amy drew a total blank, which led Jennings to declare, “Not fans of Machine Gun Kelly, apparently.” This was the case despite the face of MGK (real name Colson Baker) flashing onto the screen, and still, no dice.

Yep, there was “[n]o love” for MGK, and “Ken was livid” is way too funny.

There’s been no word yet from the Blonde Don on the subject, but surely, he will recover from this slight. Heck, not even prolific tweeter Amy has addressed the matter, but hey, you can’t win all the questions. She will return to defend her champ status on Wednesday night. In the meantime, the floodgates have opened over the MGK slight (although some dads and moms out there apparently know the drill).

And here’s a future Jeopardy! champ to help us roll outta here.

Travis Scott’s Planned Cactus Jack Collaboration With Dior Has Been Postponed ‘Indefinitely’

In the wake of the tragedy at the Astroworld Festival this past November, Travis Scott, the face of the fest, has come under scrutiny for his role in the deaths of ten people during and following a crowd crush during his headlining set. As a result, a number of his business partnerships have come to an end, including his Cactus Jack seltzer collaboration with Anheuser-Busch, while he’s been dropped from festivals like Coachella in the weeks since. Today, Travis’ brand was dealt another blow, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

In a statement to WWD, luxury fashion house Dior, which had planned a capsule collection collaboration with Travis’ Cactus Jack label, announced that the collaboration has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. “Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its summer 2022 collection,” the statement reads. According to WWD, the collection would have been the brand’s first with a musician, as well as the first time it would allow its logo to be altered. From the looks of things, the brand will likely think twice before signing on for another collaboration, no matter how big the artist’s footprint happens to be.

Until Astroworld, Travis had one of the biggest footprints in music, with partnerships with McDonald’s, Nike, Sony PlayStation, and more elevating a personal brand that was rapidly becoming inescapable. However, with the deaths at Astroworld Fest still fresh in the minds of both businesses and fans, Travis’ immediate future has become uncertain, and a slew of lawsuits could change his fortunes in a hurry.
