Robert Glasper Taps Killer Mike, BJ The Chicago Kid & Big K.R.I.T. For “Black Superhero”

Robert Glasper is coming into 2022 strong. After teaming up with Derrick Hodge for the soundtrack of Run The World: Season 1, it looks like he’s preparing to release a new project of his own this year. On Thursday, he slid through with a brand new inspirational single, “Black Superhero” featuring Big K.R.I.T., Killer Mike, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Glasper’s smooth jazz production perfectly fits Killer Mike’s baritone delivery and BJ The Chicago’s Kid’s luscious vocals as he sings, “Every block, every hood, every city, every ghetto, needs a Black Superhero.” Krit and Killer Mike use the concept to propel their verses to detail various forms of Black empowerment.

Check out the latest from Robert Glasper below and sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics
Love what motivated, I did not do it for hatred
But I truly hate the devil, I can not debate or fake it
I was asked a question and I asked about it hard
If I was facing death then I could ask one thing from God
I would ask for every n***a to be free here and abroad

DaBaby’s Manager Says It Was DaBaby’s Idea To Wear A Diaper To SXSW 2017

DaBaby’s manager, King Carter, recently revealed that it was the Blame It on Baby rapper’s idea to rock a diaper at SXSW back in 2017. The viral incident is often considered a landmark moment early in DaBaby’s career.

Before he was known as DaBaby, the rapper went by the moniker Baby Jesus, but the diaper incident helped him rebrand.

“When I met John, he was Baby Jesus. So the whole wearing a diaper thing, that was to help him transition into the name, DaBaby,” Carter told DJ Vlad in a new interview on Wednesday. “The little n***a a genius. That was all him. He came up with the idea.”

Carter added that he initially protested the idea, feeling that it would not warrant the “type of attention” they were seeking. After DaBaby rocked the diaper at SXSW, his manager admitted that he was wrong.

As for DaBaby’s own explanation of the decision, back in 2019, he said that it was a show of marketing genius.

“[It was] a genius marketing scheme,” he boasted on The Breakfast Club at the time.

“It’s about not caring,” he added.

Rick Ross And DreamDoll’s Chaotic ‘Wiggle’ Video Features A Drive-Thru Strip Club

Rick Ross and DreamDoll put on a chaotic carnival of clapping and cash in their video for “Wiggle,” from Ross’ new album Richer Than I Ever Been. “Wiggle” is the latest single from Richer Than I Ever Been, following “Outlawz” and “Little Havana,” and it’s the second single to get a music video treatment (“Outlawz” was the first).

The premise is simple — what if there were a drive-thru strip club (this is actually a thing, BTW)? The result is predictably debauched, with a line of cars cruising through a canvas big top tent and drivers throwing piles of money out their windows to the twerking dancers on socially distanced stages. While Rozay gets his back rubbed, Dream pops out of her vehicle to shake hands with the dancers, paying props to her fellow women and taking her own shift on one of the poles with an elaborate leopard print bodysuit on.

In addition to releasing his new album, Ross has been extending his reach as a businessman. He recently teamed up with the CEO of Rap Snacks to start his own cannabis line, Hip Hemp.

The Bizarre ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 Teaser Will Make You Feel So Fresh, So Clean, So Happy ‘Atlanta’ Is Almost Back

The most recent episode of FX’s brilliant comedy Atlanta aired in May 2018. It was a different time: Drake had the number one song in the country, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was dominating the box office, and the world was terrible.

OK, maybe things haven’t changed that much, but it does feel like season two happened a lifetime ago. Do you remember what happened in the season two finale? I didn’t until looking it up (it involves a gun, a backpack, and Paper Boi telling Earn, “You my family”), and then I remembered why Atlanta was Uproxx‘s best show of 2018.

Thankfully, after a nearly four-year break, Atlanta is coming back in March. Ahead of the premiere, FX released a new teaser for season three that has Earn (Donald Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) stuck in a nightmare of capitalism. Over what sounds like a corny cover of “So Fresh, So Clean” by ATL legends Outkast, Paper Boi says, “These products scare me.” Thumbs up.

Here’s more:

Taking place almost entirely in Europe, season three finds “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred / Paper Boi” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield), and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to.

Atlanta returns to FX on March 24, and hits Hulu the following day.

Kanye West Is Being Investigated For Allegedly Punching A Fan In The Face Outside A Club

Kanye West is being investigated for battery after allegedly punching a fan in the face outside a Los Angeles nightclub according to LA’s Fox affiliate. The fan reportedly approached Ye as he sat in his SUV outside Soho Warehouse at around 3 am this morning. The rapper allegedly reacted violently, punching the fan in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. There was apparently an argument, but police are not revealing details, and at the time of the report, police hadn’t spoken to Kanye yet.

In a video posted on TMZ which was apparently shot around the time of the incident, Kanye can be seen arguing with someone near a vehicle, saying, “Did y’all say that or not? Did y’all say that or not? ‘Cause that’s what happened right f*cking now.” He’s clearly upset about something, but details remain scant. In California, Battery is a misdemeanor and the maximum jail sentence is just six months.

The man accusing Kanye of punching him also apparently captured at least some of the incident on his mobile phone camera, and police are looking into it as part of their investigation.

Meanwhile, Kanye recently confirmed that he’s working on the followup to his 2021 album Donda and was recently revealed as one of Coachella’s 2022 headliners.

Jim Jones & DJ Drama Share “We Set The Trends” Tracklist

Jim Jones has been preparing for the release of a new project. The Dipset rapper capped off 2021 with the release of the Migos-assisted, “We Set The Trends,” the title track off of his and DJ Drama’s forthcoming mixtape. Though it was initially due out last month, plans changed, and now, Capo and Drama are ready to kick off the new year on a high note.

Marking his second Gangsta Grillz mixtape in nearly 15 years, the rapper hit the ‘Gram this morning to unveil the official tracklist to the project, and it’s stacked. Of course, Migos will appear on the project but it seems that Jones’ is tapping in with even fresher faces to the rap game, namely from the Brooklyn drill scene. Fivio Foreign, Rah Swish, Gwoppy, OnPointLikeOp, and more are set to appear on the tracklist, along with other newcomers like Pressa and Pap Chanel.

During our 12 Days Of Christmas interview with Capo in December, he explained that the idea of doing another Gangsta Grillz tape was a suggestion from his artist Dyce Payso.

“My artist Dyce Payso – I forget where we was at – he was like, ‘Man you need to do another Gangster Grillz. That’s what you need to do.’ I was like ‘Damn, that s**t sounds kind of fire.’ I hit Drama up like, ‘Yo, let’s run a Gangsta Grill.’ He’s like, ‘Bet, run it.’ Now we’re here,” he said.

FKA Twigs & Rema Collide For “Jealousy”

FKA Twigs is gearing up to release a new mixtape tomorrow, CAPRISONGS, in tandem with Capricorn season, which is in effect until January 19. The experimental singer hasn’t released a full-length since 2019’s Magdalene, although she has served up a few fire singles in absence of an album. Before the new year, she returned to the fold with The Weeknd on the emo-tinged “Tears in the Club,” and she also linked with UK rapper on the rise, Central Cee, for the booming and cinematic “Measure of a Man,” featured on the soundtrack for The King’s Man film.

Now, we get the first taste of 2022 music from FKA with the release of “Jealousy” featuring Nigerian star Rema. The song is altogether a bit lighter and fluffier than “Tears in the Club,” with production that feels a bit dancehall-inspired, thus working well with Rema’s guest spot. Throughout the record, FKA Twigs herself tries not to get too deep– or at least, that’s what she tells her lover who is attempting to box her in with some sort of unfounded jealousy accusations.

FKA Twigs spoke with Apple Music about this new single as well as the project at large, and in the process, she revealed that Rema was surprisingly difficult to get in touch with, but of course, they found a way.

“It was funny actually, because Rema was quite difficult to get in touch with. One of my closest friends, Irene, she’s Nigerian. We kind of had made a link with Rema’s team, but it was just difficult to get that flow conversation. I was talking to Irene one day and she’s Nigerian. I was just like, “This is like super random but I don’t want to sound weird because I know you’re Nigerian, but you don’t know Rema, do you?” She was like, “Yeah, yeah, no, I do know him.” I was like, “No way.” She’s like, “Yeah, yeah, no, I do know him.” I was like, “Great.” I was like, “You couldn’t tell him to put some extra harmonies on the track. Could you?” It was actually through one of my oldest friends that we ended up connecting and finishing the track through her, which was really sweet. To me, that’s the soul of the record. I’ve really, as you said in the beginning of the conversation, pushed myself to connect more and to be even more collaborative and to grow and step outside of myself,” Twigs told Zane Lowe about how the collaboration came together.

Check back with us tomorrow for FKA Twigs’ CAPRISONGS. In the meantime, (lightly) vibe out to “Jealousy.”

Quotable Lyrics

Jealousy you put on me
You’re in your feelings way to deep
Jealousy you put on me
That’s why your mind’s out, mind’s out why?
