Pharrell Williams gives an arrangement of flowers at his NYC Piece By Piece Premiere

The New York City red carpet premiere of Piece By Piece, held on Wednesday, October 9th, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, was an unforgettable evening filled with stars, nostalgia, and unexpected moments. Among the celebrities in attendance were Pharrell Williams, A$AP Ferg, Pusha T, N.O.R.E, Bianca Lawson, Teddy Riley, and Nigel Sylvester. However, one of the most touching moments of the night came when Pharrell paused an interview to give journalist Courtney Brown her well-deserved “flowers” for the role she played in his early career.

During the red carpet interview, Pharrell surprised Brown, a former music industry insider who spent years with Pharrell in the studio, by taking the microphone and reflecting on the pivotal influence she had on his journey. In an emotional tribute, Pharrell said, “So, y’all gotta understand. Courtney was there in the very beginning. She was there when Rob discovered Kelis and introduced her to me, you were her best friend. But what I will say is The Source is so lucky to have this person that not only knows about rap music but music period. I know this because I was there, I remember you asking all of the questions then—I should have known that this is what you were gonna do, but I didn’t.”

Pharrell continued, praising Brown’s deep curiosity and knowledge about music culture, adding, “You asked all the most amazing questions, always so inquisitive about culture. If there was something I wasn’t up on, you were like telling me all about it. I heard about the A$AP crew through you. So many things I learned through you. I really did. And so I just want to make sure that I give you flowers—not flowers, but an arrangement—a bouquet of everything I know of you that I experienced myself.”

For Brown, who spent her early years in the industry as Kelis’s best friend and a fixture in Pharrell’s studio sessions, the moment was both surreal and heartwarming. She recalled watching Pharrell’s journey from those early days in the studio, where he would juggle working on multiple songs at once, his creativity and talent already evident.

The premiere of Piece By Piece was a testament to Pharrell’s remarkable career, from his roots as a young producer to becoming a global superstar. The film, directed by Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville, is a unique LEGO®-animated biopic that delves into Pharrell’s evolution as an artist, producer, and cultural icon. Featuring appearances by Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg, the movie explores Pharrell’s journey with vibrant, joyful storytelling.

As Brown watched the film, she was moved to tears, reminiscing about the many moments she shared with Pharrell during the early days of his career. She reflected on his unique style and creativity, and how he introduced his N.E.R.D. and “Skateboard P” to the world. The film beautifully captures Pharrell’s sensitive, introspective side, showcasing the doubts and fears that only a true empath like him could reveal.

Pharrell’s tribute to Brown on the red carpet was a fitting reminder of the impact they had on one another. His heartfelt words, combined with the inspiring narrative of Piece By Piece, made it clear that Pharrell’s journey is not just about his individual success but also about the people who influenced him along the way.

As Pharrell concluded his tribute, he reflected on the significance of the film, saying, “And that is the reason why we did this film—because it gives me a platform to give flowers to all the things that have influenced me, all the people, all the situations, all the moments, and you were definitely one of those people. Harlem once again. Thank you for everything.”

Ice Spice Is Overjoyed With Herself For Doing Her First Pull-Up Amid Weight Transformation

Ice Spice and her weight loss transformation have caused quite the stir online, yet it’s sadly dominated by trolls launching Ozempic allegations and other odd comments about one’s personal fitness journey. Nevertheless, she’s putting in that work… Even if she appears to have a long way to go. The Bronx femcee recently took to social media with a video of her doing her first pull-up, one of many she’ll complete while she shares her workout sessions with fans. She may still be a beginner if she hadn’t done a pull-up before, but everyone’s routine is different, so keep the judgements to yourself.

In fact, there’s another conversation going around about Ice Spice’s physical transformation, although this one is fortunately much more civil. For those unaware, she recently popped out for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, donning a new black hairstyle that caused some divide among fans. Some prefer the “Munch” hitmaker’s striking orange curls, whereas others are more of a fan of slicked and darker shades or even her bob cut. As ridiculous as this debate might sound to some, image and style have always been important elements of an artist’s identity, especially in her field and in today’s age.

Ice Spice’s First Pull-Up

Elsewhere, though, Ice Spice has to deal with other kinds of trolls: the ones who thirst for rap beef. You most likely know of the Cold-ish War between her and Latto, with both femcees not really wanting to fully get into it for their own personal reasons. But that doesn’t mean that subliminal shots and shady references can’t still fly around. For example, the Atlanta lyricist seemed to target Spice via her feature on GloRilla’s new album GLORIOUS, although that’s just a theory.

Regardless of whether this beef continues or not, Ice Spice has much more important fish to fry. She recently settled a copyright lawsuit over “In Ha Mood,” which came from a Brooklyn rapper named D.Chamberz who alleged that her song was “strikingly similar” to his 2021 track, “In That Mood.” It seems like the specific terms of the settlement aren’t public yet, but both sides’ legal teams confirmed this in federal court, according to Billboard. Now “Princess Diana” can return to her pull-up bar.

Tommy Richman Under Fire For Rap Grammy Submissions After Claiming He’s Not Hip-Hop

Earlier this month, Tommy Richman took to Twitter/X with a controversial declaration. “I’m not a hip hop artist,” he wrote simply. The message sparked a response from DJ Hed, who was quick to call Richman out. “Fasho. So every Hip-Hop station playing MDB or DIAL should stop today. Thanks for the Heds Up [fist emoji],” he wrote at the time. “Glad I got the PSA before I did my radio mix. I now have 2 open slots. What should I play? (From an artist proud to be Hip-Hop).”

This prompted Richman to clarify. “I’ll say again, Im thankful for everything. I’m saying I don’t wanna be boxed in. I grew up on hip hop. But I’m a singer,” he went on to explain. Regardless, the comment still didn’t sit right with many, who think he might have been better off not saying anything at all.

Social media users in the NFR Podcast‘s comments section are calling him out for seemingly changing his tune now that awards are on the table.

“Thought he said he wasn’t hip hop ?” one X user writes. “Bro not a rapper tho @DJHed until he wants a better shot at a Grammy,” another claims. What do you think of Tommy Richman submitting “Million Dollar Baby” for Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 2025 Grammys despite previously saying he’s not a hip-hop artist? Tyler The Creator Announces A New Album ‘Chromakopia,’ And It’s Coming Out Very Soon

A day after teasing a mysterious project, Tyler The Creator has announced a new album. It’s called Chromakopia, and it’s coming October 28 (that’s a Monday, which is notable since new albums usually arrive on Friday).

Details about Chromakopia are scarce, including no tracklist (although “St. Chroma” will presumably be the first single, if there is no one). But the artwork, which you can see below, notes that “all songs are written, produced, and arranged” by Tyler Okonma, Tyler’s real name.

Tyler, who is bringing back the best festival in America for another year, recently shared his frustrations with the current state of music. “I love this art form so much, bro, and there’s so many n****s out right now that aren’t musicians, that are getting treated like musicians because they make meme records,” he said on the Mavericks With Mav Carter podcast. “[They will] publicly be like, ‘I don’t give a f*ck about music, I just do this sh*t for money.’ It’s a Spider-Man meme of, like, the next n****. When every publication is like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s put that out,’ you taking up space for n****s like me.”

It’s safe to say, Chromakopia won’t be a meme record.
