YSL rapper FN DaDealer, real name Jakobe Moody, was reportedly arrested for alleged murder this week. Moreover, the report comes from 11Alive News, who obtained court documents detailing the arrest for the killing, which took the life of 28-year-old father of two, Tremaine Glasper. He is survived by the rest of the members of his family and his two young daughters. Furthermore, Moody (who is 20 years old) is accused of provoking a shooting on June 5 at the Columbia At Mechanicsville Crossing apartment complex. Police had three suspects potentially responsible for the murder, and the search for the other two is apparently still underway.
Of course, this unfortunate development adds to the mountain of legal issues that the record label’s members face. The most obvious of these is the ongoing RICO case against several members, including its founder Young Thug. As far as his side, his defense team motioned to block a police officer from the witness stand in court. Apparently, they believe that this official would have provided false information irrelevant to the case, mainly the claim that Thug cooperated with authorities regarding information on a homicide case.

Regardless, the case is still looking for jurors and has been in relative limbo for months, if not a year. What’s more is that its most recently delay came about because of defense attorney Eric Johnson. Police took custody of his laptop, on which they believe he allowed his client, YSL’s Christian Eppinger, to contact other members of the collective who weren’t caught up in the indictment. Until the court resolves his (for which a hearing will take place on July 12), the YSL trial is postponed.
Meanwhile, this news comes against the backdrop of Young Thug’s new album, BUSINESS IS BUSINESS. While many celebrated his return to music despite the circumstances, it seems like the moment became bittersweet. The newest twist in the long-running legal drama for Young Thug and the YSL RICO case has arrived. Young Thug’s lawyer has reportedly filed a massive new motion to have many of the charges thrown out. The reason for the motion is a claim that anything accused of happening more than 5 years before the arrest date is invalid. This is due to the statute of limitations on the RICO laws that were used to arrest almost 30 people associated with YSL. The motion requests that any charge related to something that happened 5 years before Thugger’s arrest be thrown out.
In the wake of this news breaking many fans thought similar things. Namely, why did this take so long to come out? In a trial that has been ongoing for over a year now it seems to many like this legal maneuver should have come a long time ago. Comments under an Instagram post sharing the news expressed this sentiment in a number of ways. “Why they ain’t been tried this,” one commenter says. “His lawyer just realizing this? Lmao,” another reads.
Young Thug and the YSL RICO trial have been at the center of rap news for over a year now. Thugger just released his new album Business Is Business. It’s his first project since 2021’s Punk and his first since the arrest happened last year. The album is packed full of high-profile features from artists like 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Drake, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. It also features lyrics that have been a lightning rod for ongoing controversy related to Gunna’s alleged snitching.
Young Thug’s YSL label mate Gunna has faced a lot of hate from fellow rappers for allegedly snitching on his label mates. The massive RICO indictment which swept up much of the YSL gang including rappers Young Thug and Gunna has a new development. According to Hip Hop DX, the hearing has been delayed until at least July 12th. The delay comes as a result of defense attorney Eric Johnson’s own ongoing hearings. Johnson is representing Christian Eppinger in both the RICO case and a number of other ongoing legal matters. Last month, law enforcement seized a laptop belonging o Johnson after he was accused of using it to let Eppinger contact other YSL members who weren’t in custody.
Johnson’s original hearing related to the laptop was supposed to happen soon. But after the lawyer was in a traffic accident a few weeks ago he’s been ruled unfit to appear in court since. His hearing has been rescheduled tentatively for July 12th, after which the YSL case can presumably continue. It’s yet another delay in the trial which has remained in the public eye since over a year ago. May 9th of 2022 was when the news first went public that Young Thug and Gunna had been arrested alongside 26 other YSL affiliates.
Most of the discussion about the YSL RICO case in recent months has revolved around Gunna. Earlier this year Gunna took a plea deal that resulted in his release. As a part of the deal however, Gunna has to testify against other YSL members in a way that many identified as snitching. This causes a string of rappers to make public statements distancing themselves from Gunna and his alleged actions. The most recent of which was Lil Durk who didn’t mince words in an interview with DJ Akademics. Of the allegations Gunna is facing Durk replied, “that man told.”
YSL Trial aside, Gunna just dropped a new album that certainly got fans’ attention. a Gift & a Curse is a featureless 15-track album that takes a much more reserved approach than Gunna normally brings. The conversation surrounding Gunna’s plea deal in the YSL RICO case needs no explanation or summary. That being said, the debate certainly caught new wind online thanks to his most recent album a Gift & a Curse, which addresses many of these accusations on wax. Of course, it’s not in a particularly detailed or name-dropping way, but the College Park MC goes deep into his emotions surrounding this situation and how he feels switched up on. However, Taxstone is the latest figure in the hip-hop world to suggest that he deserves every bit of criticism. Moreover, the podcaster let out a series of tweets offering his view on the subject.
“Offering unknown information in a criminal investigation that can help the governments case is snitching,” Taxstone wrote on Saturday (June 17). “What’s so hard about understanding that. This is not a complex thing there no dry snitching or wet snitching. If you tell the cops something that can help there case get closed you Told. So yes Gunna Told the moment he admitted that YSL was a gang when it’s a record label. Why would you agree with the government that YSL was a gang ? That’s what they’re trying to prove. The sad s**t about gunna plea is he probably really didn’t even know what he was doing probably was just trying to spin out the spot,” he added on Sunday (June 18).

Regardless of the extremes that both sides go to in order to prove a point, video of Gunna testifying in court did make it much more ambiguous for many. Despite all the backlash, Gunna maintains that he did not cooperate and that people misrepresented his actions. Interestingly enough, Taxstone himself is currently in prison related to charges of shooting Troy Ave’s bodyguard. After a lot of legal and social media bakc-and-forths, Ave celebrated victory in the case while mourning his lost friend.
“To all my real ones that been riding with & for Me, today is the day I finally get to clear my name,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been almost 7 years since I lost one of my closest friends #RIPBANGA. 7 years of a narrative about it being my fault, 7 years of my character being assassinated all the while Trying to defend myself without saying much!
