Skepta Flashes His Vulnerable Side With Flo Milli On “Why Lie?”

Some people may have forgot, so we are going to remind y’all. Skepta made a big announcement at the top of 2024, and it was for his next album. The UK legend’s sixth studio album is a grand return for him as well, as he’s been more in the thick of the EDM and grime scenes over the last few years. Since the reveal, Big Smoke has gone on to give us four possible singles, with “Jangrova,” a January 19 release, being the first. The rollout hit a bit of a speedbump right after that, as the cover art for “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” drew some backlash for its assumed reference to The Holocaust (it wound up not being that).

Things would pick back up in March with “Tony Montana,” and then “Miss Independent” in July. Something that we have noticed from the Ignorance is Bliss rapper is that he’s looking to try out multiple soundscapes. We have heard forays into Afrobeats, trap rap, and even sexy drill. This time, Skepta is dipping his toes into pop rap with Flo Milli on “Why Lie?” He’s entirely new to this subset by any means, but it’s not his normal home either. He’s doing some more singing on this cut and even trade some lines and adlibs with the Alabama femcee. It’s not your usual Skepta, so we are curious to hear what you think about it.

Cordae Hypes Up “The Crossroads” With “Mad As F*ck”

Cordae has a lot of fans saying that he has an album of the year incoming with The Crossroads. So far, we have to sort of agree with the majority. Throughout the rollout for this project, the North Carolina bred MC has thoroughly impressed us with his lyrical displays and tremendous command of flow. With the exception of the more pop centric “Make Up Your Mind,” “Saturday Mornings” and “Summer Drop” feature some of his strongest performances of his career. So, with Cordae returning with another single, “Mad As F*ck,” after two standouts, how does he fare this week?

Overall, it’s a solid offering the now Maryland product. He does bring some nice flow switch-ups mid verses. The lyrics are pretty standard, both nothing that’s leaning towards offensively drab. It just doesn’t have that same punch as the Cole-produced “Summer Drop” nor the same presence as the Lil Wayne-assisted “Saturday Mornings.” Also keeping “Mad As F*ck” behind the eight ball (in our opinion) is the beat. Its predecessors were extremely jazzy and soulful, and they just had incredible aura. “Mad As F*ck” keeps it more traditional and trap focused. But again, it’s nothing bad, it just doesn’t have the same memorability factor. We are still thoroughly excited for The Crossroads, though, which is supposedly due November 15.

Isaiah Rashad Hints That He Finished His Next Album Amid Social Media Fanfare

Fans have been waiting for a new Isaiah Rashad album since 2021’s The House Is Burning, and it looks like we might be right around the corner with it. Moreover, NFR Podcast recently posted an alleged text message from him in which he talks about wrapping up the process for his fourth LP. “S**t crazy [unamused face emoji],” the TDE rapper expressed. “Like I’m tryna finish strong so I’m finishing strong type s**t. Really proud of the production. Really proud of the words this round.” While this doesn’t outright confirm that he finished the album, it does suggest that he’s almost done with it, or at least is in its final stages.

Of course, this isn’t the only recent update that Isaiah Rashad has offered about his next studio record. Back in May, he shared with concert-goers for his Cilvia Demo 10th anniversary trek that it will probably drop this year, and as the window for that closes, fans were very excited to get this alleged text message update. “I might change the title of it but I’m working on my fourth project,” Zay expressed in Dallas. “I don’t know, like, probably later on this year. Most likely.”

Isaiah Rashad Suggests He’s Finishing His Next Album

As for what caused the gap between this new album and The House Is Burning, we have no idea. But it’s shorter than THIB‘s distance from 2016’s The Sun’s Tirade, whose space was due to a rehab stint. “I was doing whatever I could to escape,” he told The FADER back in 2021. “I admittedly liked the feeling of being numb. Everything that ain’t good for me. Being out in L.A. without anything anchoring me down f***ed me up. You can float off out here. You can get lost in this b***h. I was going through some petty tortured s**t: from rehab to going all the way f***ing broke. Instead of leaping buildings, I was just like, ‘Nah, I’m going to just stay in the crib.’ The responsibility was just too scary.”

Meanwhile, we know that Isaiah Rashad is a big fan of what his current and former label mates have been up to this year. During a concert this year, he played Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” to close the show out, and you can probably guess how wild the audience went in late May. Hopefully the Tennessee native adds to that canon this year, although we won’t complain about a 2025 arrival.

Xzibit Signs With Conor McGregor’s Upstart Label Greenback Records And Announces New Music

Xzibit and Conor McGregor are joining forces. Who had that on their Bingo card? We can assure we didn’t, but here we are folks! According to a recent press release (and HipHopDX), the Detroit, Michigan MC, perhaps best known for his work with the likes of Dr. Dre, Eminem, among others, is inking a deal with the UFC legend and his upstart label, Greenback Records. The Dublin, Ireland native launched this business venture just a few months ago, mid-July to be exact. However, in just that short time frame, he’s already got one of the biggest groups in hip-hop signed to him in Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Greenback and its founder welcomed Xzibit with open arms on their social media accounts not too long ago. “In the kingdom of hip-hop, only the real ones reign supreme. A legend joins the Greenback dynasty ready to make history,” the entertainment company writes on IG. “We proudly welcome @xzibit to Greenback Records – the new chapter starts here. #KINGMAKER 👑.” You are probably wondering what “#KINGMAKER” means. Well, they are here to explain that too.

“Oct 11: Play This At My Funeral Oct 25: Been A Long Time pt2. Welcome to Kingmaker 👑.” The former are lead single titles for X’s upcoming album (first in over a decade), Kingmaker. Sadly, we do not have a concrete release date for the follow-up to 2011’s Napalm. But we are going to get it by sometime early next year. Congratulations to both Xzibit and McGregor for this partnership, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.

What are your thoughts on Xzibit signing to Conor McGregor’s Greenback Records? Is this going to be a great move when the dust settles, why or why not? Are you excited for his next album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Xzibit and Greenback Records. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band Puts Their Own Spin On A Bebop Classic With “THELONIUS” Featuring Talib Kweli

For some, this may be an anticipated release, but for us, this has snuck up on us in a good way. The future record we are talking about is the debut record from Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band. But before we get into that, who are they, and who are they led by? According to the group’s website, Mr. Thomas is a maestro, trumpeter, and composer, and he put this collection of talent together in 2010. Their first ever show was that same year at the George Wein’s CareFusion Jazz Festival. Since then, they have gone on to perform at some of most recognized venues across the U.S. that are synonymous with the genre. There efforts have been celebrated and awarded a whole bunch too, as they have a total of 27 GRAMMY nominations, with the 13 of them being wins.

However, they have never decided to release an album until now. According to a press release, their first LP, Like A Tree It Grows, will land on DSPs on October 25. This weekend, Igmar Thomas has recruited longtime lyricist Talib Kweli for the tape’s second single called “THELONIUS”. What makes the Revive Big Band unique is that they put their own twist on jazz, hip-hop, and soul classics in addition to their own compositions. In this case, this is a modern reimagining of Thelonious Monk’s most celebrated bebop (subset of jazz) pieces, “Thelonious”. It’s also a tweak of Common and Slum Village’s collab “Thelonius”, which is on the former’s Like Water For Chocolate. It’s a triumphant and uplifting track thanks to Igmar’s incredible band and we think this is one of the best releases of the month so far.

Lil Durk Sets The Record Straight On His Divisive Album Tracklist

Lil Durk is dropping his next album Deep Thoughts on October 18, continuing a pretty prolific run for one of Chicago’s biggest hip-hop stars. However, some fans couldn’t help but express a little confusion despite their excitement. See, news spread around the Internet that Smurk’s next project would be Love Songs 4 The Streets 3, executive produced by Rod Wave and with a tracklist to boot. It listed features such as Rod himself, Future, Morgan Wallen, Lil Baby, Sabrina Carpenter, Kai Cenat, and iShowSpeed, which obviously raised some eyebrows. Well, The Voice has spoken, and it turns out that LS4TS3 was all cap.

“Fake a** track list,” Lil Durk simply tweeted on Friday (October 4), and it didn’t take long for fans to connect the dots. Despite this confusion (and many fans’ disappointment that we won’t hear these curious collabs with the likes of streamers), there’s still a lot on the horizon and on the docket right now to excite die-hards. For example, Durk recently made his acting debut in the series finale for Power Book II: Ghost, which might open up a Hollywood door for him even further. Some viewers clowned the appearance, while others like co-star LaToya Tonodeo thought that he did great.

Lil Durk Calls Out Fake Tracklist

I thought he killed it!” the actress told TMZ of Lil Durk’s turn on the TV show. “And I hope he keeps going with it. Like, you know, it’s the series finale… *sighs* it’s coming to an end. At least Power Book II: Ghost. But you know what they say, power never ends. So we shall see. […] I think [Lil Durk has a magical quality]. I think so, I mean, he was dope to work with. Super cool, super chill. Yeah, I hope he keeps it going. I hope [we’ll see a lot of him in the future in Hollywood]. I hope so. You’d have to ask him, but in my opinion, I hope so.”

What do you think? Do you want to see Lil Durk in more big-and-small-screen endeavors or do you agree with the trolling comments? Either way, he’s got a legit album coming very soon that should satisfy your hunger.

Brodie Fresh Teases Upcoming Album With Boldy James Joint “Boldy Fresh”

Brodie Fresh has been rapping for about eight years now, but fairly sporadically. 2022 is sort of the year in which his production began to pick up quite a considerable amount. That would be the point in his career in which he would release his first project, Lost & Found. He would get some features from some more recognizable names such as Kirko Bangz and Conway the Machine. That latter collaboration would lead to Brodie becoming an opener for the Griselda affiliate’s recent Slant Face Killah tour. Moreover, it’s led to them collaborating together not too long ago for “Lo Island”. But Brodie Fresh isn’t stopping there this year, in April, he put out his second project, A Kid From Elmont: Fosters Meadow Side A. But at just seven tracks, it felt like more of a sampler. It turns out we were correct because the New York native is gearing up for a third tape called Dogma.

The business owner (car detailing) and rapper announced this news to his IG just hours ago. “Album Officially Turned in 🥂Heart & Soul in everything I do! I appreciate everyone tapped in. Let’s take this to the Moon 🌙 ‘DOGMA’ The Album 💿”. It will be out exactly one month from today, with potential promotional singles being “Yea”, “Lo Island”, “Hard Knock Life” with Mozzy, and “Toast” with Maxo Kream. The latest though is “Boldy Fresh” which features –you could probably guess– Boldy James. It sounds like a beat that the latter would tackle. It’s got dramatic string sections and a banging and dusty boom bap rhythm. Check out the track with the link below.

Dr. Dre’s “What’s The Difference” Is The Type Of Production We Want On The Next Snoop Dogg Album

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg have one of the most anticipated projects of the year on their hands with Missionary. There isn’t a lot of information on the Doggystyle sequel, but there are some loose expectations that it will arrive in November of this year. Furthermore, the producer extraordinaire has been hyping it up sporadically, with the most recent chatter around it coming in August. In an ET conversation, he said, “This one is gonna show a different level of maturity with his (Snoop’s) lyrics and with my music”. There have certainly a lot of opportunities for said “maturity” over the years, as Doggystyle is over 30 years old.

So, we are hoping with all of that time Dr and Snoop are going to outdo themselves and bring another incredible listening experience. While we are looking back on that unofficial collaboration album, we are taking a trip back to 1999 with 2001, one of the most timeless hip-hop records of all time. Tracks like “What’s The Difference” are something we are hoping to hear, at least some elements of, when Missionary arrives. Ingenious sample flips like the one on this track with Eminem and Xzibit, made Dre into one of the best mad scientist-like producers ever. If he can somehow work some similar magic all these years later, it will be a highly impressive feat.

Jean Dawson Preps For New Album With Late-Night Cruiser “Houston”

Jean Dawson has been thoroughly impressive for a lot of reasons. Out of all the qualities that he possesses, you could easily argue that his versatility is his greatest asset. His ability to hop around different genres without a surface-level approach is quite remarkable. It adds some wonder and mystery to what he’s going to present on a new single or project. Speaking of which, the 28-year-old multi-talent is working toward releasing the latter as we speak. In mid-July, he posted a moody portrait of himself onto IG with a vague “💽*” caption. Fans were immediately begging for an album in the comments, and not too long after, their wishes would become reality. About a month later, Jean would go on to announce that, along with a tour. “Id like to formally announce “𝒢𝓁𝒾𝓂𝓂𝑒𝓇 𝒪𝒻 𝒢𝑜𝒹” album 3 title and North American tour dates. Can’t wait to see you <33”.

Then, just four days after the reveal (August 16), he dropped the now lead single “Die For Me” which featured Lil Yachty. Now, this weekend, Jean Dawson is back with its second in “Houston”. The previous track was more of a hip-hop/R&B/alternative sounding cut. But in typical Dawson fashion, the sounds are much different. “Houston” sees him take on an 80s synth-pop atmosphere and it sounds heavenly. It’s got that late-night drive vibe, and the lyrical content definitely has some allusions to God. He cleverly uses the phrase “Houston we have a problem” and applies it to him taking off into space to find peace with the big guy above.

Tommy Richman Drops “WHITNEY” One Week Ahead Of Upcoming LP

Tommy Richman has been upsetting but also impressing a lot of listeners in 2024. He’s been in the professional music business for longer than that. However, this has really been his coming out party without a doubt. The release of “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” has propelled that for sure, but he’s proven to be much more than that. That’s something he’s looking to show the doubters, according to a statement obtained from Uproxx. “I’ve been building up my discography for years. I’m not a one-hit-wonder”. What he’s also looking dispel the belief that he has one mode of singing, which is that expressive falsetto delivery. While it’s still prevalent, Tommy Richman does switch up the production style on “WHITNEY”.

This is presumably the last promotional track we are going to receive before the release of his next album, COYOTE. The project is slated to drop on next Friday, September 27, and is going to be carrying 11 songs. As of now, it looks like “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE”, his most recent record outside of “WHITNEY”, is serving as the lead-off cut. That means that “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” and “DEVIL IS A LIE” are being axed from the tracklist. But we will just have wait and see. On “WHITNEY”, Tommy is once again delivering a more heartbreaking cut, as it seems that this woman he’s talking about is not as ideal as he once thought. As we mentioned though, the production choice is different, as he goes in synth-pop/nu-wave direction with a driving series of punchy drums. Things really take off vocally on the chorus too, as Tommy wails away across it.
