DJ Khaled is fresh off NBA All-star performance and he’s back working like one. The Grammy-award-winning artist celebrated his Khaled album going platinum by popping a bottle of Luc Belaire Luxe and getting in the lab with Lil Durk.
This wouldn’t be the first time Dj Khaled and Lil Durk collaborated. Them two, along with Lil Baby on “Every Chance I Get” from Khaled’s Khaled album. “Every Chance I Get” not only went 2x-platinum but also reached No. 1 at Urban Radio.
The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart in its first week, earning 93,000 album-equivalent units (including 14,000 copies in pure album sales). This became DJ Khaled’s third US number one album on the chart.
It’s uncertain where this new music will land. Fans are still anticipating Durkio’s 7220 project, and Dj Khaled is always working. Recently he teased that he was in “album mode” when Drake gifted him a pair of his soon-to-be-released Nocta Hot Step sneakers.
Drake’s shoes are set to be released on March 3. While thanking Drizzy for the shoe in a video, Khaled said, “Imma call you later to finish that conversation we had in the backyard, you know, about album mode. Another one.”
Meanwhile, since Durk didn’t deliver his 7220 album, the Chi-town native did drop a video for “Ahhh Ha.” He also revealed that Ye wants to do a joint album with him.
This news came after rumors of Pete Davis being featured on Durk’s up-and-coming 7220 album.
Khaled and Durk are back in the booth. And if history repeats itself, we can expect another banger from them. Who’s the album this joint is going to be on? Who knows, but you can’t deny the magic they come within the studio.
Artists such as Meek Mill and Kanye West have started the New Year off right by trying to be in control of their careers in full. In the past, Meek Mill has called out Atlantic Records and other record labels for exploiting artists and holding artists into “slave deals.”
Earlier this month, the “Going Bad” rapper claimed that Atlantic Records doesn’t allow him to release his music as he pleases and stated that the record label had made at least $100 million off him.
Kanye West recently called out streaming services such as Apple, Spotify, Youtube, and more, suggesting that artists don’t receive the full percentage of their music as the streaming services receive. The Chicago native has since then figured out a new way to release the sequel to his album titled after his late mother, where he will receive his rewards in full.
“Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player. Not on Apple Amazon Spotify or YouTube. Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own. Go to stemplayer.com now to order,” he penned on Instagram.
While Kanye and Meek Mill can be compared to advancing in the industry, Dreamchasers producer seems to have a shocking comparison of the two that may not be complimenting. “@meekmill I represented [Dreamchasers] very well for 3 years and NOBODY stood on business,” he wrote on social media. “I never said nothing about having help nor asked for a handout. You’ve made plenty statements about signing slave deals and labels not doing their jobs. So, I ponder as to why my situation isn’t better. I wished you gave me them same expectations you expect from the label that you’re signed to. I don’t want no clout from this, I NEED PEOPLE TO DO THEIR JOBS. I feel like Kanye when he walked into the Rocafella building.”
Meek Mill responded to the comment questioning why Hitkidd expressed himself online. “Why you had to go on the net,” he penned.
Could this be the generation of producers and artists that demand their respect? What are your thoughts?
As Black History Month comes to a close, the 2022 NAACP Image Awards cap off a month celebrating black contributions to society. After the ceremony on Saturday, February 26, the celebrating will continue in a big way with DJ Cassidy’s special Reggae edition of Pass The Mic following the 53rd NAACP Image Awards. The special, DJ Cassidy’s Pass The Mic: BET Afterparty 2022, brings together Reggae and dancehall icons, celebrating Reggae’s influence on hip-hop and global culture.
DJ Cassidy sat down with The Source to talk about the show, whose lineup includes artists such as Shaggy, Maxi Priest, Super Cat, Barrington Levy, Ini Kamoze, Sister Nancy, Junior Reid, Patra, and more.
The inspiration for the show came from his past experience DJing, the overwhelming success of Pass the Mic, and his passion for a wide variety of musical genres.
He describes how the overwhelming emotional response to the first Pass the Mic in July 2020 inspired him to continue and he immediately began envisioning future installments of the concept.
“Looking back, I see now that each vision was a derivative of my former record crates that I carried to each deejay gig around the world,” he explains. “Before technology changed the game, I loaded six to eight one hundred pound steel cases that each held about 100 pieces of vinyl into every New York City taxi and onto every airplane. I categorized each crate by some form genre or era of music. From the very beginning of my Pass The Mic journey, I dreamed about a Reggae edition, a manifestation of that coveted Reggae record crate. As a hip-hop kid growing up in New York City, incorporating Reggae into my deejay sets was second nature. Dancehall stars were also hip-hop stars.”
He explains how when he first began conceptualizing this edition, he “wanted to represent those iconic dancehall records that played a special role in that crate, in my repertoire, and in my life in general.”
He also emphasizes how he really wanted to represent the various diverse facets of Reggae music, unbound by era, year, or decade, stating that “each of the sixteen songs featured on this show not only holds a special place in my heart, but holds a special place in the history of Reggae music and its massive influence on hip-hop, R&B, and pop music. Some dominated the hip-hop airwaves of radio stations like Hot 97 in the 1990s, while others topped the Billboard Pop Charts in the 1980s. Some fused with R&B and achieved massive commercial success, while others remain the most sampled songs of all times. Simply put, each of these records changed the game.”
While the show will definitely have many of the Pass the Mic trademark staples, Cassidy is also quick to note that viewers are in for a special treat with some of the differences that this show promises.
“Sixteen iconic records are featured in this show, more records on one show than ever before,” he explains. “There were simply so many definitive songs I wanted to celebrate. This edition brings the rapid-fire pace of Pass the Mic to new heights.
Cassidy has also partnered with some major industry names to make the upcoming show a success. In addition to superstar television producer, Jesse Collins (who recently produced the iconic hip-hop Superbowl Halftime show) and legendary music impresario, Steve Rifkind (founder of Loud and SRC Records), Cassidy partnered with renowned Reggae renaissance woman Sharon Burke and her team of Judth Bodley and Debrina Smith. “As a producer, promoter, and manager, Sharon has been at the helm of countless iconic Reggae moments over a span of decades. I knew that with her by my side, we would create something truly special that would go down in music history”, says Cassidy.
As for the future, Cassidy has no plans to limit his Pass the Mic experience to the western hemisphere, especially since over the course of the first eight editions of Pass the Mic, one of his signature catchphrases has become, “passing the mic all over the world.”
“Through Pass The Mic, I’ve always sought to create global connections between artists and fans and build bridges between both genres and viewers. Never has that mission been more fulfilled than in this installment,” he says of the upcoming performance.
“Witnessing the massive global response that Pass The Mic: Volume One and Pass The Mic: Volume Two received, I was overwhelmed by the international influence of classic hip-hop and R&B,” he says. “I always sought for the series to connect people musically on an international level, and no edition represents that mission more effectively than this upcoming special. In the future, as Pass the Mic continues to grow both on television, the stage, and beyond, I hope to constantly expand on that mission. As Afrobeat and Reggaeton’s cultural influence continues to explode, I would love to pass the mic to the icons, past, present, and future, that shaped their global impact. During President Biden’s televised Inauguration, I passed the mic to Ozuna and Luis Fonsi in front of 40 million viewers with two records that dominated global music charts, “Taki Taki” and “Despacito.” The sky’s the limit. I’d also love to celebrate Brazilian music and pass the mic to one of my greatest musical heroes, Sergio Mendes.”
He concludes by saying that “at the end of the day, no matter the category, genre, or era of music, each installment of Pass The Mic celebrates the greatest artists and greatest songs of all time by connecting those artists to their fans in a more intimate way than ever before.”
Chicago rapper 600Breezy was released from prison on Tuesday after serving about three months behind bars following an alleged threat on rapper 6ix9ine‘s life that was made earlier this year. Now that 600Breezy is out, he appears to be coming for the Gummo rapper again- this time, accusing him of being a “snitch.”
On Tuesday, 600Breezy (real name Antonio Valentino King) posted a picture of himself smiling in what appears to be an orange prison jumpsuit with the caption “2-22-22 He’s Back” with a devil face emoji.
600Breezy’s legal troubles stem back to 2012 when he was arrested for a crack possession charge. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2017, but was ultimately released from custody after serving just under a year for the offense.
In the fall of 2021, he was arrested for being a “fugitive from justice” in Alabama but was shortly released. In December, however, he was arrested in Polk County, Iowa for a probation violation that stemmed from an apparent threat made towards 6ix9ine in addition to posting a photo with guns in it on Instagram almost a year ago.
During the post, which centered around issues with King Von and Lil Durk, 600Breezy apparently made comments towards 6ix9ine to the effect of “You gon’ die when I see you,” “you gotta move around with security ‘cause you b**** and hoe,” “you gon’ die, n*gga,” and more.
When the warrant was issued for his arrest last fall, 600Breezy tweeted “dude [referring to 6ix9ine] put the police on me. I been had a warrant for three weeks. leave buddy alone fr. It’s not a drill he is the feds.”
This week, he posted a copy of his Minutes of Testimony on his IG story, which showed that his, probation violation was the result of the threats made on 6ix9ine.
The document reads: “Interstate Compact received information from the Black Hawk County Attorney that client King had made a video saying that he was going to murder Rapper 6ix9ine and had guns posted on his Instagram.” A police and rat emoji overlaid the photo of the document.

A Super Bowl championship ring won’t likely be the only ring that Aaron Rodgers won’t be getting in 2022 as the Green Bay quarterback recently ended his engagement to actress Shallene Woodley.
The news comes just a year after Rodgers, 38, and the Divergent actress, 30, announced their engagement, much to the surprise of many.
Neither Rodgers nor Woodley provided any official information about the split, although it appears to be fairly amicable. (The couple has no children.) A source told People that “it just wasn’t working” between the two, stating that Rodgers and Woodley very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount. They will remain friendly; there’s no bad blood and no drama. It just didn’t work out for them.”
Some have speculated that the split might have been caused by their drastically different political and social views. Whereas Woodley is an outspoken activist about many causes, Rodgers has been a prominent figure in the fight against mandated Covid-19 vaccinations.
Neither has posted anything on Instagram since the breakup announcement.
The Hip-Hop family tree of Dr. Dre was on full display during the Super Bowl halftime show. The Good Doctor was joined by Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and the surprise guests of Anderson .Paak and 50 Cent. But was somebody missing? The Game seems to think so.
The Compton legend reposted a message from an associate reading “FYI: @losangelesconfidential Should’ve been on stage at the Super Bowl I’ll be first to say it.”
Game reposted the message to his Instagram with the simple message of “Shit brazy fr”
That message would follow some additional posts. Do you think that The Game should have been included?

99 Neighbors issue a smooth invitation on their groovy single “Eastside,” pairing the laid-back, melodic track with a casual performance on the latest episode of UPROXX Sessions. The group, which normally consists of seven members, came through Uproxx Studios with a stripped-down, two-man lineup consisting of rappers Sam Paulino and Hanknative, who provide all the vocals on the song, while Jared Fier, Juju, and Somba make their presence known on the lilting, midtempo beat. Other members of the group include Aidan Ostby, a vocalist, Connor “Swank” Stankevich, also a rapper, and Shane Kaseta, the group’s graphic designer and photographer.
First-time listeners might be surprised to learn that the group hails from Burlington, Vermont, which is not exactly a hotbed of the jazz, R&B, and hip-hop that influences their sound. However, once the band formed in 2018, it didn’t take them long to acquire national recognition, thanks in part to securing the co-management services of Pat Corcoran, who formerly managed Chance The Rapper. 99 Neighbors were included as the first act in Corcoran’s 2019 label deal with Warner Records and they’ve steadily grown their profile since.
