“Selfish” marks the first single from slowthai this year, as he comes through with a genre-bending effort. Though he continues to showcase his wordplay and bars, he’s leaning deeper into the punk rock bag on this one. Dan Carey and Kwes Darko cook up an electronically-tinged production, that carries the grungy rhythms of British punk. At the same time, he proves that he can walk the line between punk and hip-hop effortlessly.

The new single will appear on slowthai’s upcoming album, UGLY, due out March 3rd, which stands for “U Gotta Love Yourself.” The project serves as his follow-up to 2021’s TYRON with Carey and Darko largely handling the production.

In a statement, the “i know nothing” rapper further explained the new sound. Following the release of his debut album, he said he wanted to capture “the brotherhood ethos that bands have” through his sophomore effort.

“Music is about the feeling and emotion that goes into it. Like an artist making a painting, it’s the expression of that moment in time,” he said. “I really felt like I didn’t want to rap, whereas before, rap was the only way I could express myself with the tools I had. Now that I have more freedom to create and do more, why wouldn’t we change it up?”

Quotable Lyrics
Rich get rich and I been one of them
I still see it in my friends, the jealousy
They wanna be me, the grass ain’t always green on the other side
A scary sight at Halloween
I got a few tricks, so we can get a treat

“‘Spaceman’ tells very personal stories of our childhoods, a journey of trying to escape the realities of what we were faced with. A common story for many and something we hope resonates with people and their own version of those memories,” a press release explains of the group’s latest effort.

Previously, Master Florence shared “Relax,” which will also appear on next month’s Master System album. Its official release is due for February 10.

Speaking on that, the exciting effort, the group has said, “The quick rise of the digital age has opened a sort of Pandora’s box. Some innovations are designed to connect and enhance our lives, and others are a mockery of life itself. We hang digital art on digital walls to impress digital friends, and meanwhile the world burns.”

Additionally, they add, “‘Master System’ delves into the future effects of technology on the world by reaching to the past. Movies like ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Total Recall’ were big inspirations. They imagined a retrofitted vision of the future; one where high-tech flying cars operate over a decayed industrial landscape.”

Stream Monster Florence’s “Spaceman” on Spotify or Apple Music below. Afterward, tell us your thoughts on the new single in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics:

Flyin’ out of space but I’m runnin’ out of time
Devil in the crosshairs, got him outside
Runnin’ down, 20 rounds straight
‘Til you run it out

Fredo Kicks A “Dave Flow” In His Latest Release

Fredo has set the tone for 2023 with a brand new banger, along with eye-popping visuals.

The “Back To Basics” rapper returned on Thursday with the release of his latest single, “Dave Flow.” An homage to his collaborator and friend, the West London native flexes his lyrical dexterity over haunting instrumental. Though he celebrates the high life, with the visuals showing his adventures in Dubai, it’s also a reflection of his growth and progress. He looks back at his humble beginnings in amazement as a result of how far he’s come in his career. “Still chasin’ money, yeah, I guarantee it/ Went from sofa surfin’ to surfin’ yachts in the Caribbean,” Fredo raps on the song.

In keeping with the song’s title, Dave’s influence on Fredo evidently comes out over the course of the record. The two built strong chemistry with songs like “Freaky Friday,” “All I Ever Wanted,” and “Money Talks.” But on this one, Fredo punctuates each bar with the type of precision that Dave’s known for. “Dave Flow” is an excellent outing for Fredo that undoubtedly kicks the year off on the right note.

It appears as though we’ll get a new album from Fredo at some point this year. The UK wordsmith came through in late 2022 with the release of “I’m Back.” So it seems like an announcement will come in the near future.

For now, check out Fredo’s latest single, “Dave Flow” below and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section.

Quotable Lyrics
Now I got that money in just Dunks
And that’s word to Kick Game, now I’m workin’ on the whip game
Was pullin’ up and beatin’ whips ’til whip came
Now the way the Lambo pulls off and whips could really make a chick claim
Neck pains and back pains
I got them same pains from all these mad chains
