When Will Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s ‘Vultures 2’ Come Out On Apple Music?

In January, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign announced that their joint project Vultures had been reimagined as three complete albums after several delays to the original release. At the time, they gave three new release dates: February 9, March 8, and April 5. With the first part out already and the second part scheduled for release this New Music Friday, when can fans expect it to hit DSPs like Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal?

With most releases, the answer would be 9 pm PT or midnight ET tonight, but with Kanye West, release dates are more like vague suggestions than hard deadlines. Fans watched the first Vultures release date come and go in December without a hint of the new album, with Kanye insinuating that it might have been Nicki Minaj’s fault for not clearing a verse he asked for at the last minute. A second release date in late December also disappointed fans — but didn’t surprise them — and the third release date, the aforementioned February 9, also nearly passed without the album coming out.

However, while Kanye did manage to get the album out on the day (if not at the expected time), it was not without issues. The album was pulled from Apple Music by its distributor, FUGA, which issued a statement claiming that Kanye had only gotten the album through its service through skullduggery and that it was working with DSPs to have it removed entirely. While it’s still available on Spotify, the song “Good (Don’t Die)” was removed after Donna Summer’s estate filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement over an authorized interpolation of her song “I Feel Love.”

So, Vultures 2 might not even come to Apple Music, unless Kanye has a contingency plan, and even if it does, it almost certainly won’t be at midnight. The rest remains to be seen.

SiR Revealed The Tracklist For ‘Heavy’ Which Features Anderson .Paak, Ab-Soul, And Ty Dolla Sign

Inglewood singer Sir Daryl Farris — better known mononymously as SiR — has been rolling out his fourth studio album Heavy for the last few weeks, releasing the single “Karma” and even appearing in the NBA’s Celebrity Game for All-Star Weekend. Today, he revealed the cover art and tracklist, which features both his fellow TDE labelmates (Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad) and other LA soul veterans (Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla Sign).

Like labelmate Schoolboy Q, who just dropped his album Blue Lips after a five-year hiatus, SiR is also releasing after a five-year break. His last album, Chasing Summer, came out in 2019 and reached No. 64 on the Billboard 200 chart. It featured appearances from then-labelmate Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Sabrina Claudio, and Smino, among others, and spawned two singles “Hair Down” and fan favorite “John Redcorn.” The five-year album cycle seems to be a trend for Top Dawg Entertainment, with Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad both also putting half a decade between their most recent releases.

Heavy is due on March 22 via TDE and RCA.

Will Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s ‘Vultures 2’ Drop This Week?

Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign may have been spending the past week insisting there’s a conspiracy against them in the recording industry (despite still receiving enough streams for their album, Vultures 1, and its singles that they debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s albums chart even challenged Beyoncé for the top Hot 100 spot two weeks in a row), but that may not stop them from continuing to release new projects under the Vultures moniker. Early last week, Timbaland tweeted, “Vulture Vol 2 OTW,” prompting fans to speculate when a second installment of Vultures would be released.

According a since-deleted post from West, March 8 is the expected release date for the album, but before getting too excited, here’s your reminder that the first Vultures was allegedly due for release months ago, but was repeatedly pushed back without notice, eventually dropping on February 10 — but not without issues. The album’s distributor FUGA declared that it was never supposed to be released through FUGA, resulting in the album being pulled from Apple Music, while FUGA works with other platforms to have it removed. Meanwhile, the estate of Donna Summer filed a lawsuit against West for interpolating Summer’s hit song “I Feel Love” on “Good (Don’t Die)” without permission.

So, take the March 8 release date with a grain of salt, as it’s entirely possible the album could get deleted, canceled, or otherwise delayed at the last minute, without warning. Of course, for anyone still waiting for Kanye West albums in 2024, that possibility probably won’t deter them.

Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign Sued by Donna Summer Estate for Copyright Infringement

Another day, another lawsuit for Kanye West. Ye and his Vultures partner, Ty Dolla $ign, are being sued by the Donna Summer estate for using the icon’s “I Feel Love” in the creation of “Good (Don’t Die).”

The suit is led by Summer’s husband, Bruce Sandano, stating the interpolation was not approved due to Ye’s “controversial history.”

Ye submitted a request for clearance, but it was denied on Feb. 3, 2024, in both written and phone communications. The song was submitted for clearance at Universal Music Enterprises as an alternative but was once again denied.

The estate is now seeking damages of $150,000 for each infringement.

Earlier this week, after Adidas announced a new stock drop of Yeezy sneakers at the end of the month, Kanye hit the net with a message stating he was sued.

“Not only are they putting out fake colorways that are not approved, they are suing me for $250 million,” Ye said. “And they also not paying me for these shoes they are putting out that has my name on it.

“They are using contract clauses and 50 years of business experience to rape an artist – one of y’all favorite artists – right in front of y’all in broad daylight.”

Donna Summer’s Estate Has Reportedly Sued Kanye West For Interpolating One Of Her Songs, Despite Denying Permission

Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign‘s Vultures 1 collab album may be a hit among fans, but the album has not arrived without its controversies. Today (February 27), Billboard reports that Donna Summer’s estate has filed a lawsuit against West for interpolating Summer’s hit song “I Feel Love” on the Vultures 1 track “Good (Don’t Die).”

According to the lawsuit, West requested permission to sample the song, but was denied by the estate. West then rerecorded portions of “I Feel Love” to use on “Good (Don’t Die).”

“Summer’s estate … wanted no association with West’s controversial history and specifically rejected West’s proposed use,” attorneys for the estate wrote. “In the face of this rejection, defendants arrogantly and unilaterally decided they would simply steal ‘I Feel Love’ and use it without permission.”

The song has since been removed from streaming platforms, however, Summer’s estate is continuing to pursue legal action, as the song has already garnered many streams.

“This lawsuit is about more than Defendants’ mere failure to pay the appropriate licensing fee for using another’s musical property,” the estate’s lawyers wrote. “It is also about the rights of artists to decide how their works are used and presented to the public, and the need to prevent anyone from simply stealing creative works when they cannot secure the right to use them legally.”

Though the portions West used were re-recorded, Summer’s attorneys maintain that West copied the song, as the tunes sound too much alike,

“When listening to both songs, any average listener can immediately hear the distinctive similar melody and compositional elements present in both songs, which sound so identical that it appears Defendants may have gone so far as sampling the original master recording of Summer,” the attorneys wrote.

At the time of writing, neither West nor Ty Dolla Sign have directly commented on the matter.

There is so much that goes behind a hit record that people don’t see, and most of the time, those individuals are the most pivotal pieces to the puzzle. 

Insert Camper, the songwriter and producer who had the pleasure of spending three months in Saudi Arabia with Ye and Ty$ for the making of Vultures 1. The project peaked at the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums charts and remains there today.

Camper is best known for his work with some of the most well-respected names in the music industry, including Brandy, H.E.R., Jay Z, Big Sean, and more. Last year, Camper won a Grammy as Coco Jones’ “ICU” won Best R&B Performance. But the accolades don’t mean anything; Camper keeps on working.

The Source had the opportunity to chat with Camper about his involvement in the new Ye and Ty$ album, Vultures 1. The beauty lies in that all five songs he worked on for the project are charting on the Billboard Hot 100, which serves as a first throughout his entire career.

The SOURCE: So all five songs from that album are charting?

Camper: All five songs that I produced with Ye and Ty$ are on the Hot 100 charts right now as we speak. Including a song I produced with Kanye called “Talking,” featuring North West. Kanye West’s daughter. That’s her first time being charted on the Hot 100 charts, at #30. All the moments continue to go together.

How did you get back in with Ye?

With a phone call, his team reached out, and I was there. It was that simple because we already worked together when I was 20. A few years after that, I went to Hawaii with him to work with John Legend, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, Rick Ross. We was all out there working together, so we always had a relationship. We was always cool. There were moments when I’d see him, then I haven’t seen him in 8 years after that. Then came back together and did this. A lot of growth with the both of us, but I’m happy we took time apart to come back together for a time like this. 

Were you producing or songwriting on the project?

Producing. Then on one of the songs, I’m singing. On “Stars.”

What’s the vibe in the studio for this project?

It’s amazing. It’s lessons man. He’s like Michael Jordan to me. He understands what it takes. He’s brave, he’s ambitious. He’s very passionate. I’m sitting right next to him soaking all the game up. I’m learning how to put it into what I’m doing, so it’s a great experience.

What was the biggest lesson you learned from this project?

Be yourself. Never fold. Never stop. Never settle either. Because now, he’s the biggest he’s ever been. Independently too. People counted him out, he bet on himself every time. That’s just that: staying true to who you are and believing in yourself. 

What’s your relationship with Ty$?

Amazing, he’s my brother. I love him to death. If you ask him about me, he’ll say the same thing. I love him so much, he’s a big brother to me. He’s there when I need them. We have a lot of music coming together. Even if we never did anything else again musically, he’s still one of my great brothers and I really appreciate it. Fire man, he’s my dawg.

What was the greatest memory from creating Vultures 1?

Ye would have the studio setup in a big ass suite. Big suite and speakers, we’re all there. Me, Ye, Ty$ next to me. North West beside Ye. We’re all sitting like we’re front row at the fucking runway show in Fashion Week. We’re watching movies, listening to songs. We’ll go to an amazing restaurant, then we’ll go out to the dunes. The dirt road, we’ll ride 4-wheelers in the dirt. 3am, 4am in the morning. We’ll go home and catch the Saudi Arabia breakfast. 

I forget the hotel we were staying at, but they had a fire breakfast. 6am every morning, the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had in my life. Really all this stuff together, working on songs then stay up all night. Go to a private party, private event. We’ll chill, then we’ll catch the breakfast in the morning. Oh my God, amazing.

How long were you out there for?

Three months. 

That’s where the project was made? Saudi Arabia?

Well they started in Japan. They went to Italy. From Italy, went to Saudi Arabia. We were in Saudi Arabia, then moved to a city in Saudi Arabia called AlUla. We were there, that’s where all the mountains — it was nothing but dirt and tipis and tents. Just rocks. Big rock boulders. Aw man, the best way to see stars. I saw shooting stars every two minutes, it’s clear.

Why Saudi Arabia? 

I don’t know. I have no idea because we couldn’t smoke. We couldn’t drink. We couldn’t do anything. I was a purist out there. Couldn’t do anything, I’m like damn! 

Do you get a one way flight? You don’t know when you’re coming back?
Don’t know nothing.

What do you pack? 

Well, we had to wear black. That was the uniform [for Vultures]. That’s what he wants to do. He’s been doing that for a while now. I don’t know why, but that’s what he wants and that’s what we do. We’re at war, so we have to wear all black. I guess that’s the mentality he has. We outside. 

I know Kanye is your hero. Do you sit there like damn, how am I here? 

Yeah, gratitude. Yo, I can’t believe I’m here right now. But at the same time, I don’t really get too wrapped up in that because you gotta believe that you’re here. You got to. You pinch yourself from dreaming like alright well you’re about to get hurt. Because this is real, I’m here for a reason. I’m happy that I’m called upon to reason with you, to go there with you, to see your vision through and all of that. He’s counting on me, like I’m counting on him. That’s a beautiful understanding.

How is it celebrating the success of the project?

I haven’t yet. I’ve been working. My head is still down. I’m not even worrying about the success yet. Although I’m breaking records right now that I never did in my career myself personally, I’m still so focused on the next thing. I’m not even worried about that shit. 

You have over 20 Grammy nominations. Are you keeping count? 

No. [laughs] I’ma have some more next year.

Kanye West And Ty Dolla Sign’s ‘Vultures 1’ Debuts Atop The ‘Billboard’ 200 Chart Despite Accessibility Issues

When Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign announced their joint album in October 2023, it immediately raised a few eyebrows. However, following their star-studded listening parties around the world helped to build a buzz around the project. Now, it appears that all of the musicians’ promotional efforts have paid off. Today (February 18), it has been revealed that Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 1 has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Despite accessibility issues, the outlet confirmed that the controversial body of work pulled in significant numbers. According to Billboard, the metrics for Vultures 1 are 148,000 total units for the week ending on February 15. This number comprises 129,000 streaming-equivalent album units (equaling 167.78 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs), 18,000 album sales, and 1,000 track-equivalent album units (album or song downloads).

Vultures 1 was initially released on February 9 after multiple delays. After its release, fans quickly took to social media to report having difficulties playing the 16-track project on streaming. By February 15, Vultures 1 was removed in totality from Apple Music. That wasn’t the only problem surrounding the project. Ozzy Osbourne slammed West’s sample usage of his song “War Pigs.” Donna Summer’s estate accused West of copyright infringement for including elements similar to the late singer’s record. Even, Nicki Minaj refused to clear a verse for the album.

None of this seems to have derailed Kanye West’s vision as he announced plans to release two more editions of the album.

No Kanye West project ever comes without controversy. His Ty Dolla Sign joint album Vultures 1 is no different. Today (February 15), Vultures 1 was removed from Apple Music.

The album arrived last Friday (February 9) following numerous delays. However, according to a spokesperson from music distributing company FUGA, the company was never supposed to drop the album.

Why was Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 1 Removed From Apple Music?

In a statement to Billboard, a spokesperson for FUGA said the company never officially agreed to distribute the album.

“Late last year, FUGA was presented with the opportunity to release Vultures 1. Exercising our judgment in the ordinary course of business, we declined to do so. On Friday, February 9, 2024, a long-standing FUGA client delivered the album Vultures 1 through the platform’s automated processes, violating our service agreement. Therefore, FUGA is actively working with its DSP partners and the client to remove Vultures 1 from our systems.”

This isn’t the only controversy the album has faced in the days since its release. Both Ozzy Osbourne and the estate of Donna Summer have said that West had previously asked to sample or interpolate works of theirs, however, they both denied. West used the samples anyway.

Since the album’s initial removal, Billboard has reported that the album is now back on Apple Music, now distributed through Label Engine.

Representatives for Label Engine, Apple Music, and Ty Dolla Sign did not immediately return our request for comment.

Kanye West And Ty Dolla Sign’s ‘Vultures 1’ Is No Longer Streaming On Apple Music After A Distributor Controversy

It has been a rough go for the release of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s album Vultures. First, it was delayed many times, for months, before it was finally released on February 10. Now, it looks like the album is getting… un-released: As of this afternoon (February 15), Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s album Vultures 1 is no longer available to stream on Apple Music.

This follows a statement from FUGA, the album’s distributor, shared with Billboard. A spokesperson said:

“Late last year, FUGA was presented with the opportunity to release Vultures 1. Exercising our judgment in the ordinary course of business, we declined to do so. On Friday, February 9, 2024, a long-standing FUGA client delivered the album Vultures 1 through the platform’s automated processes, violating our service agreement. This comes after Donna Summer’s estate accused West of copyright infringement, explaining, “Kanye West…asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love, he was denied… he changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!”

Kanye West And Ty Dolla Sign Have Been Added As Rolling Loud California 2024 Headliners

At this point, it would be malpractice to assume everything Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, posts online is true. Vultures 1, the first of what is expected to be a three-part joint project from Ye and Ty Dolla Sign, has been promised, then delayed several times — drawing ire from the likes of the album’s distributor and Donna Summer’s estate in the process.

However, there was an exception to the rule this morning (February 15). Ye posted an updated Rolling Loud California 2024 lineup poster with ¥$ (Ye and Ty Dolla’s name as a duo, apparently) now listed as the top headliner. “VULTURES COMING TO ROLLING LOUD,” Ye captioned the post.

Within minutes, Rolling Loud confirmed Ye’s post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “YE leaked it before us [three fire emojis].” Rolling Loud also posted the updated 2024 lineup on Instagram alongside the caption, “VULTURES HEADLINING NEW THURSDAY NIGHT @kanyewest @tydollasign [bald eagle emoji, fire emoji]. All three day pass holders will be automatically upgraded to a 4 day pass. All single day purchasers will receive an email tomorrow with a special link to upgrade to a 4 day pass! New purchasers must purchase 3 day pass to receive access to Thursday night.”

Rolling Loud California previously announced its 2024 lineup with headliners Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, and Future and Metro Boomin.
