Travis Scott and James Harden were broing it up last night in Las Vegas, according to Sportskeeda. The Houston rapper and the Los Angeles-bred NBA star guard have been close pals for quite some time. Their relationship grew, especially when the Arizona State product played for the Scott’s hometown Rockets. In fact, James Harden describes his relationship with the Cactus Jack label head as one that betters them both. “We’ve grown a friendship, a friendship that’s grown pretty tight. We talk very, very often… give each other confidence”, Harden explained in 2019.
We talk about how we can be better in our own class. It’s really grown to be a real brotherhood and a friendship. It’s pretty dope”. Well, it seems that last night was an accumulation of all of that time as friends because Travis heaped tons of love and praise on James during a birthday toast, according to DJ Akademiks. The Los Angeles Clipper guard turned 35 yesterday and invited La Flame, as well as many other high-profile guests. In Harden’s post from the bash, Lil Baby, former teammate Kevin Durant, Michael Rubin, and presumably many others were in attendance as well.
Scott can be a pretty awkward dude, but it makes this speech about his “brother” all the more wholesome. “I just want everybody to go to the next level for the greatest human of all time. If you’re only here, we’re only here to celebrate the best of the best….”, he began. “This my greatest friend of all time and I just want everybody to please, if you don’t throw up, then just have a good time till your hands and feet can work no more. If you have a shot in your hand, I need you to raise that glass to the highest of the highest, we only here to have a good time, not a long time. To the best man of all time, to my best friend, my brother”, Scott lovingly concluded. You can tell they have a real bond, and we hope it continues for a long time.

“You know The Scotts is on the way”. “Its def happening at some point. Dont even trip … we need to take the time to get it right. I wanna create a ton of songs and pick the tastiest ones and really make it a moment for the culture. We only get 1 first album, its gotta be the illest”. “It’ll happen. Not sure when, but it will”. “Man, a lot. Some fireness“! These were just a few tweets and quotes from Travis Scott and Kid Cudi about the status of the possibility of a collaboration album. The potential for this happening began back on April 24, 2020 when they put out their first song out as a duo. “THE SCOTTS”, both as a tandem and single, shot up the charts.
In fact, it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and it currently sits at over 804 million streams. However, even with all of the record’s success and the constant reaffirmations from Scott and Cudi, there were also some doubts coming from the latter that an album would come to fruition. Cudi even went as far as to say that it wasn’t going to happen. However, that would be followed up by more optimism just months later.
Kid Cudi Says THE SCOTTS With Travis Scott Is No More
Now, though, it seems that this could officially be the end of THE SCOTTS, according to AllHipHop. The Cleveland, Ohio native hosted a Q&A session while waiting for his flight to depart and this topic once again came up. “When are we getting the scotts album Cudi”, a fan asked. Cudi did not mince his words in his response, saying, “That ship came and went my friend. Lets move on. So much more to see and hear.” It’s quite the letdown, as these artists have inspired each other so much and possess undeniable chemistry. It’s going to be one of the biggest “what-ifs” in modern hip-hop history”, but with it being so long since “THE SCOTTS”, it may be the right thing to do.
What are your thoughts on Kid Cudi saying that him and Travis Scott’s potential collaboration album is not happening? Does this break your heart, or do you agree with him that too much time has passed? What is your favorite team effort from them and why? Travis Scott’s breakthrough mixtape Days Before Rodeo has arrived to DSPs ten years after its release, and fans have been delighted to traipse down Memory Lane with the star making project — or delve into it in full for the first time after projects like Astroworld and Utopia have made Scott into a household name.
So, how does this collection of songs stack up to each other after ten years? Let’s take a swing at ranking the 12 songs from Days Before Rodeo to find out which one is the best.
12. “Zombies”
Let’s get this out of the way up front: Travis Scott has always been a case of style over substance, and he’s never exactly been the greatest rapper. While usually, his production is enough to mask the relative lack of punch provided by his more clichéd lines, “Zombies” is the weakest track on Days Before… because it skimps on the strongest aspect of Scott’s whole thing, pairing uninspired boasts with an absolutely plodding beat that makes it a total slog.
11. “Basement Freestyle”
Like “Zombies,” “Basement Freestyle” makes the misstep of drawing focus to Scott’s raps (calling it a “freestyle” is the largest factor in this), only this time, it wastes (or makes use of, depending on where you stand) a compelling — if a bit repetitive — beat from Metro Boomin and Lex Luger.
10. “BACC”
Travis is at his least convincing when he’s trying to convince us he’s a tough guy. This disconnect between the posturing of the hook (“Cuzzo back on the block, he back servin’ birdies”) and the empty boasts of the only verse causes the bonus track to fall a bit flat.
9. “Days Before Rodeo: The Prayer”
Days Before Rodeo starts out pretty strong, all things considered, but its mostly inspired intro, which has a fun Wondagurl beat built around a slick breakbeat sample, quickly disintegrates toward the end. Meanwhile, some of its motifs get repeated throughout the album, to diminishing returns.
8. “Don’t Play” Feat. The 1975 & Big Sean
The only feature-heavy song in the bottom half of the ranking, there’s something discordant about the pairings here; perhaps the high-art indie-rock nod provided by The 1975 doesn’t live up to similar cross-genre collaborations of the time period, while Big Sean’s energized performance overshadows Travis’ efforts to match his fellow Kanye co-writer.
7. “Quintana Pt. 2”
An uncredited appearance from Travis’ early benefactor T.I. once again exposes the flaws in Scott’s fundamentals, proving more effective with a well-worn old-man game than the Houston rapper’s more contemporary melodic approach. The fact that it sounds like the Scarface theme can be a plus or a minus, depending on how you feel about that particular gangster epic. The fact that T.I.’s verse was removed from the streaming version somehow ends up hurting more than helps, leaving behind a void that makes the latter half of the song drag.
6. “Sloppy Toppy” Feat. Migos & Peeway Longway
The first 20 seconds of this song promise a departure that the rest of it never really pays off, but nods to the soulful intro sample throughout the beat offered by producers Southside, AudioKlique, and C Gutta provide enough interesting things in the background to keep this one from ever eating its tail, while Migos delivers one of the signature performances that made them such an in-demand feature artist at the time — especially Takeoff (RIP!).
5. “Grey”
You can hear the seeds of Travis’ future hit “Pick Up The Phone” in this one, while his pen game takes a step up — not a massive one, mind you, but enough to make the imagery feel a bit more vivid, believable, and compelling. The second verse offers the sort of autobiographical detailing that Travis’ music could stand to use a lot more of.
4. “Mamacita” Feat. Rich Homie Quan & Young Thug
Long live Rich Gang. Quan and Thug were on one hell of a run in 2013-14, and their presence brings out something in Travis — perhaps not his “best,” but certainly a bit of energy that the rest of his catalog could stand to include. Thugger’s verse stings especially hard when you consider how long and hard he worked to get to the point of So Much Fun and Punk, only for the state to justify his “I don’t f*ck with America” statement, albeit for a different reason than he meant back then.
3. “Backyard”
One of the few songs on Days Before Rodeo that tries something different, its placement toward the end of the tracklist provides a burst of optimism in an apocalyptic sonic wasteland. Lyrically, it finds Travis being vulnerable again (“Every summer felt so cold, my daddy ain’t comin’ home ’til fall / That’s why my pimp game’s so moist, had that du-rag and all”), which is the best version of him. He’s got an interesting story, it’d be nice if he told it more.
2. “Skyfall” Feat. Young Thug
Ignore the first 10 seconds, which sound like we’re about to set sail on the high seas with a hold full of rum and an eye on the horizon. In fact, skip the entire first minute. That’s how good the rest of this one actually is: it’s the second-best track on the project, despite the first fifth being entirely skippable. Scott’s cautionary warning to aging artists, who even then were decrying the changing sound of hip-hop, still resonates, and his chemistry with Young Thug begins to solidify here.
1. “Drugs You Should Try It”
The undisputed fan favorite from the project, “Drugs…” features Travis Scott at the height of his powers — higher, even. The fact that this exists makes one wonder why he doesn’t push himself like this all the time. “Drugs as a metaphor for romantic feelings” is a concept as old as songs, drugs, and romance, but Travis Scott’s hazy approach to songwriting lends itself especially well to the trope, which buoys the substance of his songwriting to actually match the style. He’s flashed great moments like this since, but this one certainly left the most outsized impact.
Travis Scott didn’t just officially release DAYS BEFORE RODEO onto streaming, he’s doing the absolute most in the best way possible. La Flame has blessed us and the rest of his fans with a special digital deluxe with five fan-favorite bonus tracks. He’s given physical music lovers the opportunity to have the 2014 mixtape on CD or vinyl. Additionally, the veteran hitmaker dropped some dope apparel and bundles to pair with tangible copies. Now, there is a chance that Travis takes DAYS BEFORE RODEO on a tour in the future.
This was hinted at during a special one-night performance, according to Hypebeast. Scott and Spotify collaborated for the “Spotify x Cactus Jack Present Days Before Rodeo”, and it was held at the Masquerade last night from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET. The venue can only hold 250-1,500 people, so this one-off show was for the true ragers. Spotify Fans First tickets were the first to go and did so completely in 15 minutes. Additionally, there was a general on-sale around 3 p.m. Videos, like the one below, are circulating on social media, and it seems like it was a lit night.
Scott seemed to think so as well, even claiming that these “[are] the best shows on the planet right here”. In fact, he even went as far as to hint at the possibility of a full fleshed out tour. “I might have to do a whole tour of this right here”, before “Mamacita” had everyone jumping up and down and screaming their lungs out. Fans are in agreement with Scott, saying, “A small venue only days before rodeo tour would feed families man NEED THAT S***TTTTT”. “Keep going. Don’t stop now”, another implores. It might be some time before that gets announced, bet let us and every Scott fan dream right now.
What are your thoughts on Travis Scott hinting at a possible DAYS BEFORE RODEO tour? Is this something that needs to happen, why or why not? Were you able to attend the one-night performance in Atlanta? If so, how was it? Are you a new or old fan listening to the mixtape and how is it? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Travis Scott. The blog era of hip-hop has been revered as a pivotal moment in time for the genre (at least for millennials). But the tail end of that time period gifted the culture some monumental mixtapes, including Travis Scott’sDays Before Rodeo.
But that wasn’t the only oldie the “Fe!n” rapper treated fans to. On the deluxe version (exclusively available on Scott’s personal website here), purchasers were gifted several bonus track, the most notable being “Yeah Yeah” featuring Young Thug.
True Travis Scott fans are very well acquainted with the song. Similar to Kanye West (Ye) and Ty Dolla Sign’s record “New Body” formerly featuring Nicki Minaj, a rough version of “Yeah Yeah” was leaked and continues to float around online. Although “Yeah Yeah” isn’t available on streaming (yet), Days Before Rodeo (Deluxe) owners now have the finished track in the collection.
According to NFR Podcast, yesterday (August 22) during the Days Before Rodeo anniversary concert held at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, Scott performed the track for the among others to lock in the nostalgic moment.
Getting DAYS BEFORE RODEO on streaming is already a win, but also receiving a deluxe version with extra tracks is even better. Travis Scott revealed that this was going to be a real possibility when he announced the rerelease on his social media. When he did, the Houston, Texas artist said that it would be a “couple”. However, he went above and beyond, delivering five of them. Four of them are tracks that have been on the internet in some capacity. But Travis Scott was able to keep “Mo City Flexologist” under wraps, for the most part.
According to Genius, it got two separate previews, once on May 27, 2014, and again on the 28. Additionally, online forums claim that the instrumental was sold to another rapper. Thankfully, we now know that Travis Scott had “Mo City Flexologist” in his clutches still. The track can only be heard if you buy the DIGITAL DELUXE on his website for $4.99. However, fans are making sure everyone has a chance to hear it, as platforms like YouTube already have the audio files. As for how the song sounds, it’s quite incredible. Scott and Honorable C.N.O.T.E. cooked up an equally hype, dark, and woozy cut. It has a stadium-like feel to instrumental and Scott’s short but effective auto-crooned chorus add an extra hypnotic element. Additionally, the flows he rocks on the verses display his natural knack for creating sticky patterns. It has all of the quintessential elements of what makes Travis Scott tick in all the best ways.
Run back them simmers I caught through the night I done dirtied the Sprite, I done crushed up the ice Who knew LaFlame make it bigger than life? On the come up, I had to find faith through the lights (Lit) How to book me? They gotta go bigger the price Rock a kilo of gold just to dip it in ice
LET’S RAGE! Travis Scott fans can now finally listen to his 2014 mixtape, DAYS BEFORE RODEO. La Flame, at various points throughout the time in between now and the original release, had pondered doing this. However, at Fanatics Fest a few days ago, Scott went full send days after its 10-year anniversary. To pay homage to this point in his career, he even hosted a one-time show in Atlanta at The Masquerade with a strict 1,500 capacity to celebrate the rerelease. Fans who weren’t aware or around for this era of his are certainly in for a treat this weekend. However, we would argue that longtime supporters are eating even more so thanks to the DAYS BEFORE RODEO – DIGITAL DELUXE ALBUM.
Yes, in addition to getting the original 12-track set, Scott promised to polish up a “COUPLE DBR SONGS FROM THAT ERA FROM THE VAULT.” Well, he did that and then some, as there are actually five in total. They include “Mo City Flexologist”, “Too Many Chances”, “Yeah Yeah” (with Young Thug), “Serenade”, and “Whole Lots Changed”. As we said, die-hards are going to recognize these titles as they have been floating on Soundcloud, YouTube, and torrenting websites.
Travis Scott Outdid Himself For The DAYS BEFORE RODEO Deluxe
Unfortunately, some people were misled/confused because they are nowhere to be found on DSPs. To hear these songs, you have to head to travisscott.com and buy the DIGITAL DELUXE for $4.99. It is still available as we speak, so click the link here. You may also be able to hear them on the deluxe vinyl if you were a buyer of that as well. Overall, this is one heck of a time to be a Travis Scott fan, new or old.
What are your thoughts on Travis Scott including these specific tracks on the DAYS BEFORE RODEO – DIGITAL DELUXE ALBUM? Are you going to purchase it now that you know it’s only available on his website? Do you think La Flame should have included other past recordings, or are these valid enough? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Travis Scott. Travis Scott has been a superstar for over a decade. Days Before Rodeo is a snapshot of the rapper before he became said superstar. It dropped in 2014, and provided the first real glimpse of the Scott’s psychedelic trap sound. There were pieces of it on Kanye West’s Yeezus, which Scott helped produce, but Days Before Rodeo was different. It married the experimentalism and grandiosity of Yeezus with the rapper/producer’s own unique sound. It paved the way for Travis Scott’s acclaimed debut, Rodeo. And it’s finally on streaming. Huncho Jack fans have won.
Days Before Rodeo, like Drake’s So Far Gone or Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap, sounds fresh as the day it came out. It maintains the spark of an artist on the cusp of greatness. There’s a hunger to the mixtape that Scott’s later projects simply can’t match. Anybody who listens to “Drugs You Should Try It” in 2014 knew that the Houston rapper was special. And they were right. Days Before Rodeo sounds incredible a decade removed, thanks to the trippy anthems like “Mamacita” and “Quintana Pt. 2.” There’s definitely a rudimentary quality, but it only adds to the tape’s appeal. It’s revelatory to hear mixed and CGQ mastered versions of “Backyard” and “Grey,” especially with the knowledge of where Travis Scott would eventually take this sound. Sit back, listen, and enjoy. Then throw Rodeo on.
Travis Scott is finally doing something that his die-hard fans have been asking him to do for years. On August 23 at midnight, the Houston megastar is going to be bringing his second mixtape, Days Before Rodeo, to streaming services. The fan-favorite 2014 release has strictly been on Soundcloud or downloaded onto people’s phones illegally for just over a decade. Those days are now over and also for the first time, physical music buyers can relive the magic on vinyl or CD. What’s also so amazing about this is that he will also be dropping some extra tracks from around that time that never got to see the light of day. With all of this excitement, we are going back to DBR to relisten to some of its biggest bangers. Undoubtedly, one of those is “Don’t Play”, the collab between Travis Scott, The 1975, and Big Sean.
The lead single to this 12-track mixtape, “Don’t Play” features one of La Flame’s hungriest rapping performances in his entire discography. While this collection of songs was more so a building block for his debut album Rodeo a year later, there were some fairly consistent themes on DBR. With Scott learning so much from the likes of Kanye West and more, he felt that he was on the cusp of stardom. That’s why there so many songs on here about believing in yourself and having that ambitious mindset. “Don’t Play” is certainly one of those cases, especially with bars like these. “Up at 5 A.M., still workin’, but I treat it like it’s one / I’m never actin’ like I got it / B****, I’m actin’ like I won it on these n****s“. Relive “Don’t Play” with the music video link down below.
