‘The Book Of Clarence’ Soundtrack Tracklist Features Jay-Z, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, And Kid Cudi

This Friday (January 12), the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, The Book Of Clarence, is set to drop. As the tracklist has been revealed, it features some seriously major artists, according to Genius.

Doja Cat is set to collaborate with Kodak Black and Adekunle Gold on “Jeezu.” D’Angelo and Jay-Z are performing “I Want You Forever,” which is reportedly nine minutes long, according to Vibe. Kid Cudi and Jorja Smith also make an appearance on the record with their respective songs. And so many more talented musicians are involved on top of that.

Lil Wayne’s appearance on “Hallelujah Heaven” was released as the first glimpse of the album back in November, which you can check out above.

“There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie,” the film’s director, Jeymes Samuel, shared with Billboard. “It was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other. But I also worked with the most awesome artists on our track ‘Hallelujah Heaven.’ Collaborating with Lil Wayne, Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks was so dope; I loved getting them all on the same track.”

The film will also be available to watch in theaters starting this weekend.

JAY-Z Unsure Whether He’ll Headline A Super Bowl Halftime Show, Discusses Racist History Of “Cowboy”

JAY-Z says he’s unsure whether he’ll headline a future Super Bowl Halftime Show and that selecting himself to do so too early would have been “selfish.” He addressed the idea of taking the main stage during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the premiere of The Book of Clarence.

“I don’t know,” JAY-Z said. “I thought it would be selfish to pick myself too early, so maybe one year.” He also praised Usher, who will be performing at the game, next month. “He’s one of the greatest performers that we’ve seen in our time,” he said. “I think he’ll take his rightful place.”

JAY previously revealed that he rejected an offer to perform at the Super Bowl during an interview with The New York Times in 2021. He explained that the NFL only gave him the opportunity on the guarantee that he’d bring Kanye West and Rihanna up to perform “Run This Town.” He said: “Of course I would have. But I said, ‘No, you get me.’ That is not how you go about it, telling someone that they’re going to do the halftime show contingent on who they bring. I said forget it. It was a principle thing.”

Elsewhere at The Book of Clarence premiere, JAY discussed the history of the term “Cowboy.” He said: “I believe the term ‘cowboy’ was created as a slur for Black people. I think that’s where the term comes from. In my research of history, it was a slur, and obviously like most things, we made it look so good they was like, ‘give that back.’” Be on the lookout for further updates on JAY-Z and the Super Bowl Halftime Show on HotNewHipHop.

JAY-Z has been holding down the performances at the Super Bowl halftime show for the last few years, picking Rihanna, Dr. Dre, and this year, Usher. But fans want to know when it’s his turn.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hov said, “I thought it would be too selfish to pick myself. Maybe one year. Maybe.”

JAY-Z and D’Angelo will be dropping a song together this month. The single will be part of The Book of Clarence soundtrack.

JAY-Z and film director Jeymes Samuel connected for a Q&A session with Elliott Wilson, where the song’s reveal was made. “It’s so deep. We got D’Angelo and JAY-Z on the same track,” Jeymes said. “like 9 minutes and 32 seconds of absolute soulful, biblical bliss.”

When Does ‘The Book Of Clarence’ Soundtrack Come Out?

The Christmas holiday has long since passed. But if you’re in the mood for biblical stories, The Book Of Clarence has you covered. In November, to build up hype for the film, director Jeymes Samuel began to tease the supporting soundtrack back by Jay-Z.

Starting strong, Samuel dropped the lead single, “Hallelujah Heaven,” featuring Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks. Since then, details surrounding the soundtrack have been sparse. So, when does the soundtrack for The Book Of Clarence come out?

Although an official release date has not been announced, it would be safe to assume that the project will be released in alignment with the film’s theatrical debut on January 12. Hopefully, the soundtrack will be made publicly available across streaming services the day before to give ticketholders time to absorb the project. In a press statement, Samuel shared his excitement for the musical side of the film.

“While I was working on ‘The Harder They Fall,’ and all my other projects, the story and the music for ‘The Book of Clarence’ were always there percolating in my mind,” he said. “There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie. It was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other. But I also worked with the most awesome artists on our track ‘Hallelujah Heaven.’ Collaborating with Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks was so dope; I loved getting them all on the same track.”

During a sit-down with Elliott Wilson, Jay-Z confirmed that he does appear on the soundtrack by way of an over 9-minute-long collaboration with D’Angelo.

The Book of Clarence will hit theaters on January 12. Find more information here.

Doja Cat’s ‘Kitty’ Nearly Made An Appearance During ‘The Book Of Clarence’ Movie Premiere

F*ck The Girls” rapper Doja Cat’s daring fashions have repeatedly been a topic of conversation. Sometimes, the garments are deemed controversial. Other times, the looks were hailed as groundbreaking. On Friday, January 5, another one of Doja Cat’s looks set the internet ablaze.

While attending The Book Of Clarence movie premiere in Los Angeles, Doja Cat managed to avoid a wardrobe malfunction when her ‘kitty’ nearly made an appearance on the carpet. While she stopped to pose for photos in her Luar one-piece, Doja used her full-length jacket to cover up her goodies.

After the images began circulating online, users online chimed in using Doja’s past lyrics to laugh off the mishap.

“Amala did say, ‘Look at me, look at me.’ Oh, she’s a supernova,” wrote one user.

“She didn’t lie when she said, ‘Now my bald hair, match my ….,” penned another.

“She literally said, ‘let that coochie breathe 😭😭😭,” added a user quoting Sexyy Red.

“Look at me. Look at me. You looking,” joked a fan.

At the same time, users online couldn’t help but point out the irony in the nearly NSFW moment, given the religious nature of the film. “I love her, but I find it odd to wear a cross with Jesus on it while ur c00chie is out like this 😭😭,” remarked a user.

The Book of Clarence is set to hit theaters on January 12. Find more information here.

Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, And Shabba Ranks Sing ‘Hallelujah Heaven’ In The First ‘Book Of Clarence’ Soundtrack Single

One of the highlights of the films of Jeymes Samuel (aka The Bullitts) is the soundtrack albums he curates for them. In 2021, I praised the soundtrack of The Harder They Fall, writing that the movie often works best as a themed music video a la Beyoncé’s Black Is King. It looks like that may continue to be the case with Samuel’s next upcoming film, The Book Of Clarence, as Samuel shares its first soundtrack song, “Hallelujah Heaven” featuring Lil Wayne and dancehall legends Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks.

Samuel’s love for dancehall and reggae artists was also a fixture of the Harder They Fall soundtrack, which featured Barrington Levy, Dennis Brown, and Koffee in addition to rappers like Jay-Z, Jadakiss, and Conway The Machine. The Book Of Clarence will likewise contain appearances from Jay-Z (who is again credited as a producer for Samuels’ latest work), Kid Cudi, Jorja Smith, and more.

The Book Of Clarence is set in 33 AD and follows the exploits of the titular character (portrayed by LaKeith Stanfield) as he tries to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ — not as a disciple but as an imitator, looking to get rich quick. The film is set to hit theaters in January 2024.

You can listen to “Hallelujah Heaven” above and check out the new Book Of Clarence trailer below.

New Trailer Released for Comedy Film 'The Book of Clarence'

TriStar Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released the latest trailer for The Book of Clarence. The film is written and directed by Jeymes Samuel and tells the story of Clarence, a streetwise but down-on-his-luck individual, striving to secure a better life for his family while grappling to free himself from debt.

The synopsis reads:

From visionary filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence is a bold new take on the timeless Hollywood era Biblical epic. Streetwise but struggling, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is trying to find a better life for himself and his family, make himself worthy to the woman he loves, and prove that he’s not a nobody. The Book of Clarence Official Soundtrack features new music by Jeymes Samuel, JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi and more.

Jay-Z Revived His Dormant Instagram To Announce New Music For The Upcoming Film, ‘The Book Of Clarence’

Jay last used Instagram to promote the Netflix film The Harder They Fall, which he executive-produced. And while music features extensively into that film’s structure, Jay himself only appears on a couple of tracks, including the Kid Cudi collab, “Guns Go Bang.”

Well, he’s back on the platform to promote a film project again, this time, The Book Of Clarence, another collab with Jeymes Samuel, and the trailer promises more new music from the mogul. (Fans are also joking in the comments that the account will be deactivated again in 24 hours, which is about how long he had it up before.)

For years, Jay-Z has insisted that he’s “not a social media guy.” While his knowledge of memes and online trends makes that claim seem somewhat dubious, it is true that he hasn’t maintained much of an online presence — at least, not publicly. But it turns out he’s also pretty good at social media, when he does deign to use it, whether that’s promoting new projects or simply expressing appreciation for his lyrical inspirations.

Meanwhile, The Book Of Clarence looks like a satire of celebrity told through the lens of a Bible-era scammer (played by LaKeith Stanfield!) seeking to present himself as a Messiah, inspired by Jesus himself. Samuels’ reach exceeded his grasp with The Harder They Fall, and if anything, this looks even more ambitious. We’ll see if he learned enough from his last outing to stick the landing this time in January 2024.

The movie is written and directed by Jeymes Samuel, with Hov, Samuel, James Lassiter, and Tendo Nagenda as producers. Joining Stanfield in the cast is Omar Sy, Anna Diop, RJ Cyler, David Oyelowo, Michael Ward, Alfre Woodard, Teyana Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James McAvoy, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
