“Texas Hold ‘Em” is Beyoncé’s latest No. 1 hit, and while the Cowboy Carter favorite is still going strong, Bey just breathed new life into it with the “Pony Up” remix released today, April 4.

The remix adds a newfound New Orleans bounce influence, which can be most evidently heard in the song’s new verse. Beyoncé sings in the new verse (according to Genius):

Beyoncé’s Brilliant ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Promotion Projected Onto The Guggenheim Wasn’t Quite ‘Authorized’ By The Museum

Beyoncé’s ability to break the internet is well-documented. The latest example was the frenzy she caused when she announced her songs “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em” during the 2024 Super Bowl. Now, the singer’s Cowboy Carter album rollout (which included multiple artwork reveals) has users online feverishly looking for clues.

To keep the fan flames burning, a text display of the body of work’s scheduled release date was projected outside of the Guggenheim in New York. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the museum denies authorizing the stunt despite its marketing brilliance.

In a statement shared with the outlet, a representative for the facility shut down the artistic collaboration. “[The Guggenheim] was not informed about and did not authorize this activation,” they said. “However, we invite the public — including Beyoncé and her devoted fans — to visit the museum May 16–20 when we present projections by artist Jenny Holzer on the facade of our iconic building to celebrate the opening of her major exhibition.”

With Guggenheim’s dismissal of involvement, it is unclear who was behind the ploy. Was it the singer’s management company, Parkwood? A rouge Beyhive fan? Batman? We guess the world will never know. But what we do know is Cowboy Carter will prance onto streaming platforms on March 29.

Joe Budden Walks Back Beyonce Criticism

Joe Budden has apologized to Beyonce for his criticism of her latest single, “Texas Hold ‘Em.” In a previous episode of his podcast, he refused to speak on the track because he’s “not a country music critic.” The single was one of two country songs Beyonce dropped by surprise during the Super Bowl.

“I want to apologize to Beyonce,” Budden said. “I like that song, I like the other song too, but I like that song a lot. And let me tell you something, let me be totally phony and get on the total opposite of everything I said the first time. If the rumors are true, if Beyoncé is covering that Dolly Parton song. If that little rumor is true — ’cause Dolly just tweeted yesterday and that tweet ain’t out of nowhere, if Beyonce does that? Oh my God. Get Mason Ramsey to open up!”

While the song topped the Billboard Hot 100, Joe Budden hasn’t been the only voice to criticize the genre pivot for Beyonce. Azealia Banks also recently admitted she isn’t a fan of the move. “You’re setting yourself up to be ridiculed again,” Banks said on social media. “There’s a theatrical element to country music !!! Them critics are not just going to accept an ugly blond wig and bullying from jay-z !!! People Think Beyoncé’s ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ Sounds Like The ‘Franklin’ Theme Song And Even The TV Tune’s Writer Sort Of Agrees

“Texas Hold ‘Em” has proven to be a major song for Beyoncé. It recently became the first song by a Black woman to lead the Billboard country charts, and a few days ago, it became her ninth No. 1 single on the Hot 100. Some, though, couldn’t help but notice some similarities between Beyoncé’s single and the theme song of Franklin, the classic turtle-starring kids show from the late ’90s and early ’00s.

As TMZ notes, the comparison has generated some attention on TikTok. Now, Bruce Cockburn, the beloved Canadian singer-songwriter who wrote and performed the Franklin theme, has shared his thoughts. He told the publication, “I think Beyoncé’s ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ is a good record. Unfortunately, I can’t claim to have had any part in writing it. The rhythmic feel is similar to my theme song for the Franklin TV series, but to my ears, that’s where the similarity stops. ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ is her song, and I wish her success with it!”

So, it doesn’t look like Beyoncé is about to get dragged into a legal battle over her new music. Kanye West can’t say the say the same thing right now, though, as it looks like he’s getting sued by Donna Summer’s estate.

10. Doja Cat — “Agora Hills”

Doja Cat made a return to the top 10 this week, with “Agora Hills” (which previously peaked at No. 7) rising two spots from No. 12 last week.

9. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

Despite falling down a spot this week, “I Remember Everything” is still No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts, for a 26th total week each.

8. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

“Greedy” swapped spots with Bryan and Musgraves’ hit, rising a spot to take over the No. 8 position.

7. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Swift’s 2019 song serves as proof of Swift’s power, as it’s still in the top 10 even though last summer is well behind us. Heck, it might stick around until this upcoming summer.

6. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” is No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart for a 30th week, which is tied for the longest No. 1 run for a song by a woman. What song is it tied with? SZA’s own “Kill Bill.”

5. Benson Boone — “Beautiful Things”

After previously reaching a peak at No. 2, Boone is still hanging around the top 5 this week.

4. Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign — “Carnival” Feat. Rich The Kid and Playboi Carti

The Vultures 1 song debuted at No. 3 last week, but it’s already losing momentum as it slips down to No. 4 in its second week on the Hot 100.

3. Teddy Swims — “Lose Control”

Big week for Swims’ breakout hit: After landing at No. 5 last week, it rises a couple spots this time around to No. 3.

2. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

Kanye and Beyoncé’s new songs were the biggest debuts of last week, and while Harlow’s hit successfully held both of them off to maintain its No. 1 spot, it was unable to repeat that feat this time around.

Beyoncé has had two major weeks in a row with “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Last week, it debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, making it the first track by a Black woman to top the latter rank. Now, it’s No. 1 on the Hot 100, too. It’s Beyoncé’s ninth leader of her career, and just the 26th song ever to have topped both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.

Beyoncé’s two new country songs continue to make history, as “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” just hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated March 2. Moreover, this marks her ninth solo No. 1 song after a No. 2 debut last week, and makes her the first Black woman to top the Hot 100 with a country song. Along with the other track “16 CARRIAGES,” Queen Bey definitely reflected a big shift, and broke various records when it came to country chart placements. Not only that, but this is all building up massive hype for her new album, her ACT II phase dropping March 29 of this year.

Furthermore, Beyonce garnered 29 million streams for “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” this week, and radio airplay reportedly went up 233% according to Billboard. In addition to her nine solo No. 1s, she also has four chart-toppers as a member of Destiny’s Child, and she’s had number one hits for over 24 years. The Houston native also topped the Spotify global charts for the first time with this record. As far as other players on the Billboard top 10 this week, these include Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” and Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich The Kid, and Playboi Carti’s “CARNIVAL.”

Beyonce Nabs Another Number One Hit With “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”

Sadly, this accolade comes amid a time of mourning. Tina Knowles recently revealed that her brother and Beyonce’s uncle, Rowland Martin Buyince, passed away at 77. “My Beautiful big brother Butch went to be with God this weekend,” she wrote on Instagram as a tribute. “I will miss him so much ! He was a career Airforce man, He loved riding Motorcycles was a black Belt in Karate and had the most beautiful green eyes and good looks . He was a great story teller, He had an incredible wife Jeanette and devoted daughter Dana. Two beautiful grandchildren Yvette and Roland. He was greatly loved. Beyonce Tops Spotify Global Chart For 1st Time Ever With “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Beyonce has reached the top of the Global Spotify Charts for the first time in her illustrious career. Her newest single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” notched her the No. 1 placement with the chart’s latest edition. She dropped the song back on February 11, during the Super Bowl. It serves as a lead single to her upcoming eighth studio album, Act II. It also marks the start of her highly-anticipated venture into country music.

In addition to dominating the Global Spotify Charts, Beyonce also became the first Black woman with a number-one country song in history after debuting atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. On the Billboard Global 200, it debuted at number four. She dropped the song alongside another single, “16 Carriages,” which peaked at number nine on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Although not everyone is sold on this new venture into country, it appears as though there are plenty of fans who are excited by this. Throughout the past week or so, both songs have topped Spotify and Apple Music charts. According to the new Billboard chart updates, Bey has just hit a massive and historic new milestone. She is now the first black woman to top the country music songs chart. “Texas Hold ‘Em” is the song that did it, as “16 Carriages” found itself in 9th. In fact, “Texas Hold ‘Em” is the second biggest song in the world, slotting in behind Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me.”

Every week, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated February 24, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Noah Kahan — “Stick Season”

Stick Season was Kahan’s first top-10 album (top-3, actually) on the Billboard 200, and now he has reached another milestone on the Hot 100: Rising from No. 11 to No. 10 this week, the album’s title track is Kahan’s first top-10 single.

9. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

Aside from hanging around in the top 10 this week, “Greedy” is now McRae’s first No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, meaning it’s a hit on radio.

8. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

While the Bryan/Musgraves collab is sliding down the Hot 100 a bit, it’s still No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts, for a 25th week each.

7. SZA — “Snooze”

Similarly, “Snooze” is also faltering on the Hot 100 some, but it leads the Hot R&B Songs chart for a 29th week.

6. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

The people love Taylor Swift: She just won some People’s Choice Awards, and Swift’s 2019 hit “Cruel Summer” is just outside of the top 5 here in 2024.

Despite Kanye and Ty’s new album Vultures 1 being temporarily taken off of Apple Music, it still managed to top the Billboard 200. Now, “Carnival” enjoys a respectable No. 3 debut here on the Hot 100.

2. Beyoncé — “Texas Hold ‘Em”

Last week, Kanye West caught wind of a Swiftie campaign to stream and buy “Texas Hold ‘Em” so the Beyoncé song would debut above him on the new chart. Who knows how much impact that actually had, but whatever the case, the desired outcome was reached as the song enters the Hot 100 at No. 2.
