50 Cent Cuts Ties With Starz Over Network’s Diddy Interview Series

50 Cent has done a lot for the Starz brand. He provided the network with one of its biggest shows to date, Power, and has provided them with various spinoffs as well. 50 knows how to concoct marketable television. Unfortunately for the network, the G-Unit mogul has decided to take his business elsewhere. He posted screenshot of a TV show announcement dating back to 2022, and proceeded to call out the network. The show in question involved Diddy. And as we all know, 50 Cent does not tolerate anything in relation to Diddy.

50’s screenshot features Diddy and Fat Joe. The Deadline article that accompanied the screenshot stated that the New York rappers were set to star in an interview show for Starz. The show didn’t have a title, but it did have star power. It also had the backing of LeBron James’ production company, SpringHill. It did not matter that the Starz deal was struck two years ago, though. 50 Cent was put off by the fact that the network hadn’t canceled the show on the heels of Diddy’s recent charges. “This is a sh*t head move for Starz,” 50 Cent wrote. “I have no idea why they wouldn’t clean this up but I’m not selling any new series to this network.”

50 Cent Called Starz’s Diddy Collab A ‘Sh*t Head Move’

50 Cent then proceeded to tag Cognac and Fat Joe. “This is why I said I’ll wait to do the show,” he added. It’s a power move (pardon the pun) to severe ties with a TV network on principle. That said, 50 Cent already has some small screen alternatives cooking up on the side. The rapper inked a deal with the production company Lionsgate in August to launch a channel called 50 Cent Action. It will feature a mix of Lionsgate content and access to the entire Power library.

50 Cent also launched G-Unit Studios this year. The studio will serve to expand the film and television output of 50’s existing production company. It’s worth noting that the rapper ended his deal with Starz in 2023, citing unhappiness with the way the network promoted his shows. “This is me packing my stuff,” he wrote. “My deal is up over here I’m out. If I told you how much dumb sh*t I deal with over here.” The tension between 50 and Starz was already high, but it looks as though the Diddy connection was the last straw.

50 Cent Reveals His Shockingly Low Earnings From The Early Seasons Of “Power”

50 Cent recently reflected on the making of his hit Starz series, Power, during an interview with Steve Stoute at UnitedMasters’ SelectConNYC event. In doing so, he revealed that the network only paid him $17,000 per episode of the hit show.

“In the Power series, I was receiving $17,000 to be an executive producer, to be a reoccurring character, to be almost a music supervisor, to create the theme song for the show,” 50 Cent said, as caught by AllHipHop. “$17,000 per episode — I get paid more to go to the nightclub and wave.” From there, he discussed how he remained motivated to continue working on Power despite the low paychecks. “I just wanted them [STARZ] to get pregnant with the idea that we have to have this baby,” he said. “I wanted to make the show. No one in our culture has made any television and produced what they wanted to make.”

Power ended up being extremely successful for Starz and has launched multiple spin-off shows including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force. When United Masters shared 50’s comments on Instagram, fans of the show praised the legendary rapper for sticking with the idea. “SOMETIMES it makes sense when it doesn’t make cents,” one user wrote. Another added: “The things we do, when you believe in yourself!!! The didn’t believe!”

50 Cent Explains His Passion For “Power”

Check out the full comments on the early seasons of Power below. They come as 50 has begun working on his next project, a documentary for Netflix centered around the allegations Diddy has faced over the last year. Authorities arrested the Bad Boy mogul for charges of alleged sex trafficking and racketeering, last month. He’s already pleaded not guilty. 50 Cent’s $1 Billion ‘Power’ Lawsuit Has Reportedly Been Dismissed By A Judge

50 Cent’s reputation as hip-hop’s Teflon Don in the courtroom lives on. While the musician-turned-mogul is supposedly involved in several ongoing cases (allegedly including a defamation lawsuit against his youngest son’s mother), the weight from one massive legal matter has reportedly been removed from his back.

According to AllHipHop, the “In Da Club” rapper $1 billion lawsuit surrounding his hit television show, Power, has been dismissed.

In the report, the outlet claimed that the preceding judge declared the similarities of the show’s characters and plot, Cory “Ghost” Holland argued were from his life, did not amount to anything beyond “mere coincidences.”

Yesterday (August 3), 50 Cent wasted no time boasting about the victory in court. On Instagram, 50 Cent posted a screenshot of HotNewHipHop‘s coverage captioned: “Fool thought he was GHOST 😆 da f*ck wrong with these n****s man 🤨 LOL.”

50 Cent wasn’t the only party named in the lawsuit, originally filled in 2021. Power‘s co-creator Courtney Kemp, the Starz network, and Lionsgate were also named in the case. Although the likeness lawsuit has seemingly been dismissed, 50 Cent isn’t done fighting with Cory “Ghost” Holland in court.

Holland has also filed a $300 million lawsuit where he accused 50 Cent of intentionally inflicted emotional distress upon him and allegedly attempting to have him physically assaulted. Holland also claimed Lionsgate Entertainment didn’t make any effort to stop the harassment. This case is still pending.

Media Mogul 50 Cent Is Getting His Own TV Channel As He Inks A New Deal With Lionsgate

50 Cent’s vow to get rich and die trying continues to pay off. The “I Get Money” rapper turned television mogul is padding his resume yet again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 50 Cent, by way of G-Unit Film And Television and G-Unit Studios, has signed a deal with Lionsgate to catapult its latest network.

The free channel, 50 Cent Action, is said to be an ad-supported offering of the company’s already plentiful film catalog including The Expendables, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and Rambo. But if you’re a fan of 50 Cent’s television or film work in front of or behind the camera, you’re in luck. More than a dozen films in which he starred as well as the original Power series will be made available on the network.

In a statement, Jim Packer, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television distribution, shared his excitement about the venture. “50 Cent’s movies and television series are synonymous with non-stop action,” he said. “And we’re thrilled to extend our longstanding partnership into the FAST space.”

50 Cent also spoke out regarding the venture to THR. “I’ll make sure the quality of everything is there,” he said. “The platform has to be able to fit my original material. Give me one year, and I’ll be ranked the highest FAST channel.”

Some would consider this to be a rather bold claim, but after he declared he was the only person from hip-hop culture to produce quality projects, the public shouldn’t expect anything milder from 50 Cent.

According to the outlet, Fat Joe has inked a deal with Starz to produce an interview series, Fat Joe Talks. As the host, Fat Joe is set to travel across the country to “conduct conversations with cultural icons.”

Details about when it is expected to air and featured guest have not yet been revealed. However, in a statement, Kathryn Busby, the President of Original Programming for Starz, expressed her support of the network’s forthcoming show.

“‘Fat Joe Talks’ is an exciting foray into talk,” she said. “And who better than Joe—a legend in and of himself—to drive provocative conversations that tap into the zeitgeist and matter to our audience.
