Drake’s OVO Made An NBA Finals Jacket, And Metro Boomin Stars In An NBA Finals Commercial, So That’s Awkward

Drake and Metro Boomin don’t seem to particularly like each other. That’s putting it mildly. In summary, Metro and Future’s We Don’t Trust You track “Like That” featuring Kendrick Lamar ignited a rap war (“beef” doesn’t feel intense enough) between Drake and Lamar, including myriad diss tracks between Drake and Lamar and Metro’s “BBL Drizzy.”

So, while the 2024 NBA Finals will feature the Boston Celtics against the Dallas Mavericks, it has also incidentally become a roundabout sparring ground for Drake and Metro Boomin.

According to Billboard, Drake’s October’s Very Own (OVO) and ESPN partnered to produce 175 exclusive varsity jackets for the 2024 NBA Finals. The black-and-gold jackets will become available for purchase in the US on Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m. ET on the OVO app.

Meanwhile, Metro Boomin posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he will star in a commercial during Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals on ABC. Metro Boomin could have done the funniest thing ever and feature “BBL Drizzy” as the commercial’s song, but instead, the 30-second clip is soundtracked by “Runnin Outta Time” from We Don’t Trust You.

Shortly after the album dropped, LeBron James was spotted rapping along to “Like That” during the Los Angeles Lakers’ pre-game warmups. Metro Boomin expressed his appreciation for James on X, and now, he can also technically claim to have made it further in the 2024 NBA Playoffs than James’ Lakers.

Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals will tip off at 8:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 6, airing on ABC from Boston’s TD Garden.

Draymond Green Claps Back At Skip Bayless Again: “I Am Not Coming On Your Show”

The ongoing verbal clash between NBA player, analyst, and podcaster Draymond Green and FOX Sports’ Skip Bayless has taken a new turn. Draymond, in a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, labeled Skip as a “hater,” to which Skip responded by calling Draymond “the dirtiest player in NBA history.” Green, not one to back down, further criticized Bayless, stating, “Everybody’s skipping past Skip Bayless since Shannon left him, and he comes out and says he’ll have me eating out of the palm of his hands.”

Draymond continued, “I am not coming on your show, Skip. I’m gonna keep skipping past you just like everyone else skipped on you, because that show is dead, nobody wants to hear you talk anymore. In the words of Richard Sherman, ‘I am better than you. I am better than you at life, I am just better at you.’” Green continues, displaying the rings and honors that envelop him, before concluding, “Yeah Skip, we don’t respect you, you need more people,” Echoing Jay-Z’s “Takeover.”

Draymond Green Fires More Shots At Skip Bayless

In reaction to something Draymond Green had said about LeBron James, Bayless had stated he wanted Green to appear on his show and discuss why he branded him a hater. Skip said, “Draymond can come right here on this show…he can have as much time as he wants to make all of his cases against me, but I will respond. Thats why Draymond will never join me on this show, he knows what would happen to him. I know too much and I’m not afraid to say it. He knows I would chew him up and spit him right out for all to see.”

Bayless also said, “In my career, I have never seen anything like this phenomenon. Draymond Green is, no exaggeration, the dirtiest player in NBA history by far.” He continued, “I dare you to go on YouTube, call up and watch those low-light tapes of the cavalcade of Draymond Green’s dirtiest plays over the years … the cheap shots, the low blows, the dangerous plays. Draymond is the all-time cheap-shot artist.” Overall, it is safe to say that the beef between Draymond Green and Skip Bayless will keep going well into the next NBA season.

Angel Reese Has Second Technical Foul Rescinded After Getting Ejected Due To Weak Call

Tuesday’s Chicago Sky vs. New York Liberty game saw Angel Reese’s night stop early. The rookie sensation was ejected for two incredibly quick technical fouls in the fourth quarter. Fans called the techs weak and folks like NBA star Lonzo Ball were outraged. Reese was thrown for waving her hand at the referee in annoyance after allegedly telling the official, “that’s bulls**t,” regarding the first foul called against her. The pool report confirmed that the second T was given for this insignificant gesture.

Even Reese’s opponents were taken aback by her surprising disqualification. The Liberty’s star player, Sabrina Ionescu, expressed surprise that Reese was ejected for such a minor outburst. While watching the game from the sidelines, Lonzo Ball criticized the referee on Twitter and advised Reese to save her money by letting him pay for her fine himself. The WNBA swiftly overturned the second technical foul on Wednesday. The league is aware that ignoring the referee does not warrant a technical foul. It’s a little late for a correction, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Angel Reese Has Second Technical Foul Rescinded

Angel Reese’s season-long technical foul total is reduced by one, and the corresponding fine is waived. It doesn’t help the Sky much, considering they had to play the remainder of the game without her. As is occasionally the case in the NBA, the league should definitely have a brief conversation with the referees regarding what makes a legitimate Tech, emphasizing that getting waved away does not satisfy the same standards as being looked at. Overall, it was an overreaction from the ref.

Angel Reese is still adjusting in her first season in the WNBA. She has been rebounding the ball like a few other players, but her shot-making has not been up to snuff. As the season goes on and she gets used to the physicality and pace of the game, she should improve as a scorer. The WNBA is on the rise. Several new faces in the league, along with the superstars who have been building the league already, are a part of the surge. Overall, Caitlin Clark is the big name that is driving much of the discussion, but the more the love and attention is spread around, the m ore successful the WNBA will be i the long run.

Antonio Brown is someone who has certainly upset a lot of people and has ruffled a whole lot of feathers. Overall, his NFL career is officially over and while he was one of the best wide receivers ever, there is a chance he doesn’t go to the Hall of Fame. Stephen Jackson Roasts Austin Rivers, Calls Him “Irrelevant”

Given their frequent jabs about basketball and other sports, Stephen Jackson and Austin Rivers are definitely not fond of one another. This time, the feud takes a new turn. Jackson made fun of Austin Rivers after the latter declined to respond to inquiries about him during a Draft Kings Network program. The host asked Jackson if he could become a professional in another sport after Rivers said that more NBA players could play in the NFL than NFL players could play in the NBA. Jackson gave a shake of his head in shock at the question and then answered as previously stated.

Last month, Rivers made a contentious statement when he claimed he could take 30 NBA players and get them to play in the NFL. But for Rivers, NFL players who want to play in the NBA can’t say the same. He maintained that NBA players are more athletic and skillful than NFL ones. Over time, a number of elite NBA players—including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and most recently, Anthony Edwards—have voiced confidence in making the switch to the football field. Stephen Jackson did not want to entertain any content coming from Rivers.

Stephen Jackson Has Had It With Austin Rivers

“I just don’t want to be with no conversations with Austin Rivers’ names involved. Why is his name even involved? Like I don’t want to ask a question with his name is phrased in. Austin Rivers is somebody not relevant nowhere,” Jackson said when being asked to comment on Austin Rivers’s NFL NBA take. it’s a dismissive response, and Stack has legit beef with Austin Rivers.

When Austin Rivers expressed disapproval of the notion of LeBron James and his son Bronny James collaborating in the NBA, Stephen Jackson did not hold back. After playing for his father, Doc, for four seasons, Rivers thought it would be best for Bronny’s career if he didn’t play with him. Jackson responded to this criticism by heavily disparaging Rivers. “And your daddy not LeBron. Shut up,” Jackson said. “Difference is you trash, Bronny not. You can’t compare to him scrub.” Since then, the two have been insulting one another almost weekly.

NBA Closing In On $76 Billion Rights Deal With ESPN, NBC, And, Amazon, “Inside The NBA” Is Done

The Wall Street Journal reports that the NBA is “closing in” on television deals with NBC, ESPN, and Amazon valued at $76 billion in media revenue over 11 years, starting after the 2024–25 season. These agreements may result in TNT’s cherished Inside the NBA program, which stars Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson, ending after the 2024–25 season. According to the source, NBC, which would reclaim the rights to broadcast NBA games for the first time since 2002, is anticipated to pay an average of $2.5 billion a year, with roughly 100 games each season.

The Peacock streaming service would host around half of those games. The games would take place on Tuesdays and Sundays when there are no “Sunday Night Football” obligations. The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon will pay $1.8 billion for their package. It includes regular-season and postseason games as well as the NBA In-Season Tournament and the Play-In Tournament. A “share” of the conference finals, which are scheduled to be split in rotation, would also be aired by the worldwide giant.

NBA New Rights Deal Is Done, “Inside The NBA” Over

According to the source, Disney, which currently telecasts NBA games, will keep the rights for $2.6 billion annually, an increase from the previous agreement of $1.5 billion annually. The NBA Finals will air on its network of channels, but the current package will include fewer games. The deal would enable games to be aired on its soon-to-be-launched “direct-to-consumer streaming service,” which is scheduled for 2025. According to the article, these agreements will raise the NBA’s annual fees by more than 2.5 times their previous level, approximately $7 billion a season. The agreements include rights to WNBA games.

Although “options are limited,” the article states that Warner Bros. Discover, the company that owns TNT and “Inside the NBA,” can match NBC or Amazon’s packages. The NBA may even develop a new package. The organization, which reportedly owes $40 billion, missed the opportunity to extend the agreement before it expired on April 22. Since 1988, TNT has carried NBA games. Overall, it seems likely that the next NBA season will be the last for Inside the NBA.

JJ Redick Breaks Silence On Lakers Head Coaching Rumors

It would be astonishing at this point if JJ Redick weren’t the Los Angeles Lakers’ next head coach. Redick’s obligation to call the NBA Finals for ESPN this week presents a dilemma for both parties, as the Lakers are delaying their coaching search until after he concludes his broadcasting responsibilities. The problem is that holding off will just highlight how obvious Redick being the frontrunner is. There would be no need to wait until the Finals are done if they were keen on employing James Borrego.

From now until a decision is made, Redick will be the subject of inquiries regarding the Laker’s position. I have to admit, it would be hilarious if they announced Borrego in place of Redick in late June. In an appearance on GoJo and Golic on Wednesday, the player-turned-podcaster/broadcaster did not exactly put an end to rumors that he is the guy. He stated that while his emphasis is on the NBA Finals. He said, “As for Shams, that will be addressed once the season’s over.” Redick continued, “That is all I have to say.”

JJ Redick Addresses The Lakers Rumours

JJ Redick stressed that his top concern was his Finals broadcasting job and that he was not considering rumors that the Lakers were interested in hiring him to fill their coaching position. Redick will announce the NBA Finals alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke starting on Thursday. “My focus is on the NBA Finals,” Redick said on “GoJo and Golic” on Wednesday. “In terms of Shams, that will be addressed once the season is over. I’ll just say that.” Redick is currently their first choice based on all the indications. According to league insiders, the Lakers have been seriously considering two possibilities over the past few weeks: Redick and Pelicans associate coach James Borrego.

“I am so fortunate that I am in this position and I get to call these Finals with Doris and Mike,” Redick continued. “My day-to-day right now is consumed with calling games, the 19 different podcasts I feel like I have, my obligations to all of our partners.” Redick continued saying, “Hold on, I don’t mean any job. I mean jobs.” His admission might imply that the ESPN pundit is being pursued by multiple NBA teams this offseason. Despite spending 15 seasons in the NBA as a player, Redick has never held a head coaching position in the league. Last year, the Toronto Raptors expressed interest in hiring him as their new head coach.

Adrien Broner Shockingly Seems To Admit To Murder At Pre-Fight Press Conference: “We Done Already Beat Bodies”

Before their welterweight match on June 7, Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs had a heated prefight news conference. Things have changed for the fighter that has won four divisions. Broner’s career has recently been stalling. He defeated William Hutchinson in June 2023, going into the fight. He finally achieved victory after more than three years away from the sport. Broner was open about his battles with alcoholism, mental illness, and bankruptcy. Broner was eager to earn the biggest fights after defeating Hutchinson. He named Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, and Regis Prograis as targets in an attempt to win a world title and lucrative battles. Those names did not come to pass.

But mentally, Broner appears to be much stronger for this bout, thanks to the support and training from Gervonta Davis. Tank is also getting ready for his June 15 battle with Frank Martin. Being surrounded by a world champion and one of the biggest personalities in the sport has significantly boosted Broner’s morale and mental state. He is in excellent shape for this battle, but it is unclear if he will be able to perform. Broner did say something very out of pocket and pretty eye-opening. He seemingly admits to committing murder during his prefight presser.

Adrien Broner Seems To Admit To Murder

But prior to the bout, Cobbs and the former super lightweight champion engaged in a contentious argument at their press conference in Los Angeles yesterday. It appears that Adrien Broner went too far in the midst of the deluge of insults directed at him. He declared that if he pointed, his friends would shoot them. He said, “Don’t play no games. Coz my n****s got guns with them, bro. And I’m dead serious, bro. And all I gotta do is point and they’re gonna blow.” He continued, “And I’m dead serious, bro. And me and my n***a we done already beat bodies and they’re still looking for me. And every charge [has] been acquitted, my n***a…”

Broner continued, “For real, I am not here to play no games. So we’re gonna promote the fight but we’re gonna be respectful. Don’t do no dumb s**t and I’m serious, bro. For real, bro. I’m dead serious, motherf*****s gonna shoot you in your s**t.” The tirade continued for a little while longer and contained a lot more profanity. You understand. The 34-year-old is renowned for using blunt language prior to, during, and even following fights. Overall, this may have been the reason he was dubbed “The Problem.”

Angel Reese Gets Ejected For No Good Reason, Lonzo Ball Offers To Pay Her Fine

The New York Liberty took home an 88-75 win over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night, but the major talking point around the game was Angel Reese. In the closing minutes, with the Liberty solidly in charge, Sky rookie Angel Reese got two fast technical fouls for her first expulsion from a WNBA game. The expulsion took happened with New York leading 82-71 and 2:31 remaining. Reese first got a call against her for a personal foul while pushing for a rebound. Two further technical whistles swiftly followed, and Reese had been dismissed from the game. The ejection happened so fast that the broadcast team thought it was another player who had been ejected.

Upon reviewing the footage, it becomes clear that the sequence of events leading to Reese’s ejection was missed by the live broadcast. Referee Charles Watson initially called a personal foul against Reese. In response, Reese briefly objected, then turned her back on Watson with a dismissive hand wave. Watson, in turn, responded with two technical fouls and an overhead toss motion, indicating that Reese was no longer permitted to play. Many fans have criticized the ejection as weak and unnecessary. Notably, NBA star Lonzo Ball expressed his support for Reese, calling the referee who issued the technical fouls “weak.”

Angel Reese Ejected, Lonzo Ball Sends Support

Following the ejection, Watson continued to walk to the opposite side of the court. Angel Reese and her Sky teammates stood, stunned by the turn of events. The exact words Reese said are unclear, but it was evident that they had a significant impact on Watson. Play then resumed, and New York held on for the victory. Reese’s final stats for the game included 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two technical fouls. Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, in a post-game interview, revealed that the officials did not provide any explanation for Reese’s ejection. “I tried to get an explanation. I did not,” Weatherspoon said. She concluded, “I don’t know to this moment what has happened.”

Lonzo Ball was one of the vocal spectators who did not like the technicals. He said of the ref, “Ref that threw out [Angel Reese] is weak btw…You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel i got you.” Lonzo Ball has offered to pay her fine for what seems like a massive overreaction from the official. Overall, Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky continue to make headlines. She is, after all, one of the biggest reasons that interest in the WNBA has increased this season.
