This week’s mixtape comes from an HBCU Draft Pick, drafted by the Marlins organization in 2023 as a RHP for the Jupiter Hammerheads, then sent up to the Beloit Sky Carp (High A) this year. Meachem, a Fayetteville, NC native who pitched for the North Carolina A&T Aggies, became the 21st player from NC A&T to be drafter by a MLB team.

In his first season on the rubber with the Miami organization, Meachem gained a 2.33 ERA with 98 Ks and nine saves in 65.2 IP. At a ripe 21 years old, Meachem is destined to bring some heat to the Marlins’ bullpen in the seasons to come.

As a young man from the Dirty South, Meachem’s playlist packs a lot of bops from below the Mason/Dixon, with artists like Lil Baby, Future, Gunna, Young Thug and Mustard on heavy rotation. Check out his lengthy 79-track playlist right here courtesy of Marc Cheatham aka “CHEATS” of the Black Baseball Mixtape!

After the special guest appearance of McDonald’s character Grimace earning them the name “GriMets”, who would’ve thought that the Amazins’ could come up with another viral sensation on the baseball field? Well, the Mets have introduced another unconventional personality that is totally unrelated to baseball. Sort of.

Hailey Welch, the real life spitballer who went viral for her “Hawk Tuah” comment about oral sex, took the mound at Citi Field to throw out the first pitch for the Mets game against the Oakland A’s yesterday.

The 22-year-old Tennessee native rose to fame on social media when a street interview of her saying “hawk tuah” to describe oral sex went viral.

Mets fans and critics alike were confused as to why the Mets chose Welch to throw out the first pitch, but it must have been abad look for the Mets, who lost to the AL West last place A’s 7-6.

Dr. Dre Dreams Of Joining USA Archery Squad At 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

Dr. Dre on his Hunger Games? Let’s explain …

In a recent interview with “Entertainment Tonight”, Dr. Dre revealed his serious interest in pursuing archery with the aim of trying out for the 2028 Olympic team.

From Dre. Day to Mocking Jay. Ha! We had to say it.

The West Coast iconic producer turned Beats mogul turned Super Bowl star explained that his fascination with the sport began in junior high school.

“I’m trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028… Archery. I’m dead a”” serious,” he stated, addressing the interviewer’s skepticism. “I actually started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup. I don’t know if it was for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that, so I have it set up in my backyard. And I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet and I practice at 90 [feet].”

Dr. Dre went in and expressed his growing ambition, saying, “Yeah, wouldn’t that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in L.A., and win the gold medal… I feel like I could do anything.”

ICYMI, on Sunday, August 11, Dre performed with Snoop Dogg at the 2024 Paris Olympics’ Closing Ceremony, delivering a rendition of “The Next Episode.” Dre shared that he seldom performs without Snoop Dogg, stating, “I rarely do it. I’ve done it with Kendrick and Eminem, and those are my brothers, but something about the synergy me and Snoop has is really interesting.”

Get this, during the interview, Dre also commented on the inaugural Olympics breakdancing competition, which will not be included in the 2028 Games. He reasonably criticized the so called slew of performances, saying, “I did not like that. It’s so many great breakdancers, I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that,” seemingly referring to Australian breaker Raygun, who went viral after her moves earned zero points. “It was funny, I got some laughs out of it, but what the f””k? There are incredible breakdancers out right now. I don’t know how that happened.”

We don’t know what happened either. Especially with that one with the “gun” name. Like, huh?

SOURCE SPORTS: Yankees’ Aaron Judge Becomes Fastest To 300 Homers In MLB History

Screenshot 2024 08 15 at 12.54.58 PM

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 300th homer, reaching that milestone faster than any other player in the history of Major League Baseball when he connected against the White Sox during a 10-2 victory Wednesday night.

“It’s a great achievement,” he said. “Like I said a couple days ago, I was hoping it would come in a win. It came in a big win for us. We were down for a little bit, couldn’t get much going, so I was just excited it was there in a big moment.”

Judge hit the mark in his 955th game and 3,431st at-bat with a three-run drive in the eighth inning. The six-time All-Star and 2022 American League MVP drove a 3-0 up-and-in sinker from Chad Kuhl into the White Sox bullpen in left for his major league-leading 43rd homer.

The Yankees let loose as the ball cleared the wall, jumping up and raising their arms and banging the dugout railing. After the game, DJ LeMahieu and Austin Wells doused Judge with a tub of water.

“That means a lot,” Judge said. “These guys grind with me every single day. I know the hard work they put in. They see what I do. That was pretty special.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Yankees Put Jazz Chisholm Jr. On IL With Left Elbow Sprain

Screenshot 2024 08 15 at 9.02.35 AM

New York Yankees placed third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list Wednesday because of a sprained left elbow and were waiting for more doctors to weigh in to determine whether he needs surgery, manager Aaron Boone said.

The Yankees remained hopeful Chisholm’s stay on the IL will be short, though it’s not clear when he’ll resume swinging a bat. He hits left-handed and throws with his right.

“We’ll see what we have,” Boone said. “We’re obviously just a couple days into this. But we’re also somewhat optimistic.”

Chisholm, 26, was injured on Monday while sliding into home plate in the fifth inning but remained in the game. He was replaced by Ben Rice during his next plate appearance in the seventh inning.

Chisholm has given New York an immediate spark since he was acquired from the Miami Marlins for three prospects on July 27. He became the first player in franchise history to hit seven homers in his first 12 games with the club.

“He’s been a dynamic player for us,” Boone said. “He provides power, speed. He’s done a great job on defense. He’s been great in the room. But again, hopefully, it’s something that doesn’t turn out to be too long and we can get him back.”

Chisholm spent his first four-plus seasons in the major leagues with the Marlins, hitting .246 with 66 homers and 205 RBIs in 403 games. He is batting .316 with seven homers and 11 RBIs in 14 games with the Yankees.

Ex-NFL Player Sentenced for Brutal Death of Girlfriend’s 5-Year-Old Daughter

Screen Shot 2024 08 15 at 8.02.09 AM

Former NFL running back Cierre Wood has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for the horrific death of 5-year-old La’Rayah Davis, the daughter of his then-girlfriend. The tragedy unfolded in April 2019 when La’Rayah was taken to a Las Vegas hospital, where she was found to have suffered extensive abuse, including over 100 bruises, 20 broken ribs, and a fatal laceration to her liver.

Wood, who had a promising football career at the University of Notre Dame before his time in the NFL, was arrested and charged with murder shortly after the child’s death. He took an Alford plea in April, acknowledging that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him without admitting guilt. He was convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse.

The investigation into La’Rayah’s death revealed a harrowing pattern of physical and mental abuse. Wood reportedly forced the child to undergo intense physical workouts, including sprints, sit-ups, and wall squats, as a form of punishment. He allegedly justified these punishments by claiming he was trying to get her “on the right path” because he thought she was “chunky.”

On the day of her death, Wood made La’Rayah perform sit-ups after she struggled to learn her letters and numbers. According to his statement to the police, she fell backward and hit her head, but when authorities arrived in response to his 911 call, they found her body cold and stiff.

La’Rayah’s mother, Amy Taylor, also faced charges in connection with her daughter’s death. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse as part of a deal with prosecutors. In July, Taylor was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus an additional eight to 20 years for the abuse charge.

Thoughts?

Colin Kaepernick Reportedly Offered Coaching Job From Jim Harbaugh With LA Chargers

image

The new NFL season is around the corner and Colin Kaepernick is yet again causing a stir, so to speak. The exiled star QB, may have a new path back to the league, thanks to a reported offer from his former coach, Jim Harbaugh. Don’t get too excited, the opportunity is not as a player, but as a coach on Harbaugh’s staff. But Kaepernick, 36, still desires to play in the NFL.

ICYMI, Harbaugh, who is now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, expressed his interest in having Kaepernick join his coaching staff. “If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” Harbaugh told USA TODAY Sports. “He’d be a tremendous coach if that’s the path he chose.” Sounds like a golden opportunity but we know Kaepernick believes he’s not finished under center.

Check this out, after returning to the NFL in January, Harbaugh spoke with Kaepernick about the possibility of joining the Chargers in a non-playing role. However, there has been no progress on this front since their initial conversation. “Yeah, we talked a little bit about it,” Harbaugh said. “He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

Kaepernick’s clear reluctance to follow up with Harbaugh might stem from his continued desire to resume his playing career. In an interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick reiterated his goal of playing in the NFL again, despite being away from the game for seven years. He was effectively blackballed after leading protests against police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.

“We’re still training, still pushing,” Kaepernick told Sky Sports. “So, hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”

One thing is true, Harbaugh has been a consistent advocate for Kaepernick over the years, even arranging an open workout for him at the University of Michigan during a spring game when Kaepernick was still seeking an NFL return. Coach is a real one.

Despite Kaepernick’s ongoing efforts to return as a player, Harbaugh’s offer for a coaching role remains on the table, highlighting their enduring professional relationship.

We’re torn. Maybe he should take it or maybe he should hold out hope to get back on the field. Brady went into his forties. GOAT notwithstanding. Rogers is 40 and Kapernick is the same age as several starting QBs right now. So what do ya’ll think?

Stephen A Smith Feels Steph Curry Should Not Have Lost Olympics MVP To LeBron

image

Stephen A. Smith is pretty convinced that Steph Curry should have earned the Olympics MVP Award over LeBron James after Curry’s pivotal role in leading Team USA to gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Curry’s iconic performance included a crucial 3-point shooting spree in the final minutes of the gold-medal game against France. Maybe he has a point but again coulda, woulda, shoulda. Yes, we said it,

Despite Curry’s las minute main character energy, King James or Captain LeMerica as he was hilariously nicknamed, was awarded the MVP for his overall consistent play throughout the tournament. That part.

So the hot takes all went down on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Smith praised Curry, saying, “Steph Curry showed up, and I can’t say enough about him. Let me say this: LeBron James was the MVP. He’s the one who ultimately captured MVP for the Olympics, being the Olympics MVP. I thought Steph Curry deserved it. But under no circumstance am I throwing any shade on LeBron James for getting it because he was a model of consistency in these games.”

Smith made sure he highlighted Curry’s performance in the semifinals against Serbia, where Curry scored 36 points to ensure Team USA’s advancement to the gold-medal game. In the final against France, Curry scored 24 points, all from 3-pointers, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the last 2:48. Smith noted, “When you are as spectacular as Steph Curry was in a game against Serbia that would’ve denied Team USA a trip to the gold-medal game had Steph Curry not showed up and saved the day… what can you say? It was spectacular. Steph Curry was spectacular.”

Anywho, while Smith believed Curry’s late-game performances were deserving of the MVP, he acknowledged James’s overall impact: “The man, what can you say about LeBron James? He still seemed in better condition than practically everyone out there. LeBron James is just phenomenal. Major love goes to him for being the leader that he was, for stepping up the way he did throughout the Olympic competition. I can’t say enough about him. I’m not throwing any shade.”

We guess everybody has an opinion.

Reports have confirmed that Cleveland Browns rookie Michael Hall Jr. was arrested yesterday(Agust 13) for allegedly putting a gun to his fiancée’s head during a domestic altercation the day before.

On Monday night in Avon, OH, the mother of Brown’s fiancée called the police alleging that the defensive tackle roughed up her daughter and even hit her with a baby bottle during their fight. She also alleged that the 21-year-old second round Draft Pick dragged her down a driveway before putting a gun to her head and yelling “I will f***ing end it all” during his alleged assault.

The police report says that damage in the house showed that an altercation had taken place.

The Browns issued a statement after Hall’s arrest, stating that they were aware of the incident and are “gathering more information and will have no further comment at the time.”

Hall Jr. just played his first professional preseason game against the Packers over the weekend.

SOURCE SPORTS: Yankees’ Juan Soto Hits First 3 HR Game Of His Career

juan soto 1040x572

Is it possible that the baseball world is underestimating this historic Juan Soto season, one playing out almost as a real-time background piece?

The thought crossed at least a few minds as Soto tracked his drive toward the right-field seats in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, flipping his bat before beginning his third trot of the night in the Yankees’ 4-1 victory over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Aaron Judge casts a large shadow in the American League’s Most Valuable Player Award race, but even he can’t take his eyes off Soto.

Celebrating the first three-homer game of his illustrious young career, Soto responded by tossing a verbal bouquet toward the Yankees’ captain, saying that Judge’s 42 homers and 107 RBIs make him “the greatest hitter in the world.”

“Look at his numbers; he’s unbelievable,” Soto said. “He makes my job easier. When you’re hitting in front of a guy like that, you know you’re getting pitches. He’s the greatest one.”

Soto drove in all four of the Yankees’ runs, beginning with an opposite-field two-run shot in the third inning off right-hander Jonathan Cannon. Soto hit another homer off Cannon in the fifth, then crushed a solo blast in the seventh facing left-hander Fraser Ellard.

“It means a lot. It’s really fun, definitely,” Soto said. “It’s really cool to see it, and even better to get the win.”
