The Boston Celtics handed the Cleveland Cavaliers their first season loss Tuesday night, snapping Cleveland’s remarkable 15-game win streak with a 120-117 triumph at TD Garden. The matchup, a rematch of last season’s Playoffs and an Emirates NBA Cup Group Play game, marked only the fourth time in league history that a defending champion faced a team on a 15+ game win streak.

Jayson Tatum led the charge for Boston with 33 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and six three-pointers. Boston’s relentless shooting from beyond the arc, particularly in the first half, helped build a double-digit lead that peaked at 21 points in the third quarter. Tatum’s performance was bolstered by strong showings from teammates Al Horford and Derrick White, who each added four three-pointers.

Despite trailing by 21, the Cavaliers mounted a fierce comeback with an 18-3 run in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to six. Donovan Mitchell delivered a stellar effort with 35 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, but Cleveland’s rally fell short as Boston consistently answered each push.

“You want to be a part of history in that regard. But it’s a thing of the past. It’s over with. And, you know, it was a good run … It’s great to be part of history. We wish we had kept it going. But, like I said, there’s no championships in November.”

The Celtics also disrupted Cleveland’s league-leading three-point shooting, holding the Cavs to 34.5% from deep, their worst season performance.

In Emirates NBA Cup Group Play, both teams are now 1-1, trailing the 2-0 Atlanta Hawks in East Group C. Boston’s victory not only ended Cleveland’s streak but also reaffirmed their championship resolve in a high-stakes contest.

SOURCE SPORTS: Juan Soto Rejects Qualifying Offer From Yankees

Several reports have confirmed that free agent outfielder Juan Soto formally rejected the $21 million qualifying offer from the New York Yankees, becoming one of twelve free agents who declined a similar one-year offer. The Yanks will receive Draft compensation if Soto is picked up by another team, but the Bronx Bombers are working hard to keep that from happening, calling in managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone to their meeting yesterday with Soto.

According to MLB.com, the left-hander has already fielded meetings with the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Mets. Other teams such as the 2024 World Series Champion L.A. Dodgers, the Giants, Phillies and Rays have expressed interest in the 26-year-old outfielder.

Juan Soto wrapped up an exceptional season in 2024, earning $31 million while posting some of the best numbers of his young career. Across 157 regular-season games, Soto slashed .288/.419/.569, tallying 128 runs, 31 doubles, 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, and 129 walks. His performance set career highs in several key categories, including runs scored (128), hits (166), home runs (41), total bases (328), and extra-base hits (76).

“It was a remarkable season,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said last week. “As I’ve said all year, what Juan did for us between the lines was pretty special. But equally, I was just impressed with the person. Really getting to know him and managing him was a pleasure.”

Soto’s stellar contributions have sparked significant interest across the league, and his future remains a hot topic of discussion. Boone didn’t hide his desire to keep Soto in pinstripes but acknowledged the fierce competition to secure the star outfielder.

“I certainly would love to have him back, obviously,” Boone added. “I want him in pinstripes moving forward. But you also know there’s going to be a lot of people competing for that, and who knows where it ends up?”

As teams line up for the chance to acquire one of baseball’s brightest talents, Soto’s impact in 2024 is a testament to his consistency and superstar potential.

Mike Tyson is 'Feeling 100%' After Medical Scare And Trash Talks Jake Paul

The highly anticipated showdown between boxing legend Mike Tyson and social media star Jake Paul was billed as the boxing event of 2024. With both men doing their part to fuel the hype, fans were eager to see the clash of generations in the ring. However, fight night left many viewers disappointed—not just by the fighters’ cautious performances in the later rounds, but also by widespread technical issues with Netflix’s live stream.

The streaming giant, which hosted the event, faced backlash as countless viewers reported buffering, glitches, and even an inability to access the fight altogether. These frustrations have now culminated in a lawsuit filed by Ronald “Blue” Denton, a Florida resident, who claims Netflix breached its contract to deliver a high-quality stream. Denton’s legal filing cites “no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues” as evidence of Netflix’s failure and is seeking unspecified damages.

Social media was flooded with complaints from angry viewers, many of whom shared stories of being unable to follow the action in real time. The backlash prompted Netflix Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone to address the streaming mishap in an email to employees. While acknowledging the technical problems, Stone highlighted the event’s record-breaking viewership. “We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members,” she wrote. “Know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success.”

Neither Mike Tyson nor Jake Paul has commented on the streaming debacle, but other public figures have weighed in. Radio personality Howard Stern criticized Netflix for the issues and urged the company to fix its streaming technology ahead of its planned Christmas Day football broadcast. “You mess with people’s football, there is hell to pay,” Stern warned on his Sirius XM show. “I don’t know how this stuff works, but you’ve got to make sure it works.”

While the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight generated significant buzz and drew massive viewership, the technical setbacks and subsequent lawsuit have cast a shadow over Netflix’s foray into live sports streaming. The pressure is now on the platform to ensure smoother experiences for future live events.

Jake “The Problem Child” Paul and “Iron” Mike Tyson’s heavyweight boxing mega-event at AT&T Stadium has made history, becoming the highest-grossing combat sports gate outside of Las Vegas in U.S. history. Hosted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the event generated $18,117,072 in gate revenue with an average ticket price of $304, smashing the previous Texas record of $9 million set by Canelo Álvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders in 2021. Over 72,300 fans attended, making it the highest-earning combat sports gate ever at AT&T Stadium.

The event also shattered streaming records, with over 65 million households tuning in, making Paul vs. Tyson the most-streamed sporting event in U.S. history. The co-main event between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano drew over 50 million viewers, becoming the most-watched women’s sporting event in U.S. history.

MVP provided over 4,500 complimentary tickets to veterans, students, and youth boxing gyms, with service organizations like the USO and the National Medal of Honor Museum in attendance. VIP seating sold out, attracting buyers from Texas and international locations like the UAE, Spain, and Brazil.

“Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 rewrote the record books, solidifying Most Valuable Promotions as a trailblazer in combat sports,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “From setting the highest gate outside of Las Vegas in U.S. history for a combat sports event to becoming the most streamed sporting event in U.S. history, this event is a testament to the global impact of Jake Paul, Mike Tyson, Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, and the incredible athletes on this card. We’re proud to have partnered with Netflix to deliver an event that brought fans together worldwide and broke many records. The UFC, which I believe to be the greatest combat sports organization of all time, has been in business for 30+ years and they have never put on an event of this magnitude. We established MVP three years ago and are just getting started. This is what it means to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sports entertainment. Congratulations and thank you to our team and our fans.”

The preliminary card was also streamed massively, with 4.8 million views on MVP’s YouTube channel and 5.4 million on Netflix Sports and Tudum. The event underscored MVP’s ability to deliver groundbreaking moments in sports entertainment.

The Dallas Wings emerged victorious in the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery, presented by State Farm, and will hold the first overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft on Monday, April 14, 2025.

The announcement came during the WNBA Draft Lottery special, aired following the TCU vs. North Carolina State women’s basketball game. This marks the first time in franchise history that the Wings have won the lottery after participating 11 times previously.

The Los Angeles Sparks secured the second overall pick, followed by the Chicago Sky in third and the Washington Mystics in fourth. Lottery odds were determined by the two-year cumulative records of the four teams that missed the playoffs in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The Sparks had the highest chances with a combined 25-55 record over the past two years, while Dallas and Chicago each had a 227 in 1,000 chance based on their 31-49 record.

A key aspect of the lottery was Dallas’ 2023 trade with Chicago, which allowed the Wings to swap first-round picks with the Sky if their pick fell below Chicago’s, ensuring they would hold the top selection. Ernst & Young overseen the lottery, which marks the 13th consecutive year ESPN has broadcasted the event. The full draft order will be determined based on teams’ regular-season records from 2024.

SOURCE SPORTS: Cavs Look to Extend Historic Streak Against Celtics in Showdown of NBA Heavyweights

Cavs vs. Celtics

Cavs vs. Celtics

The Cleveland Cavaliers are off to a historic start, entering their matchup with the Boston Celtics at 15-0, tied for the second-best start to a season in NBA history. They are matched only by the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and the 1993-94 Houston Rockets, with the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors holding the record at 24-0. Remarkably, all three teams with a 15-0 or better start made it to the NBA Finals that season.

The Cavaliers’ 15-game winning streak has set a franchise record for the longest single-season streak. This game marks the first meeting between Cleveland and Boston since last season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, which saw the Celtics advance in five games. Both teams are participating in the Emirates NBA Cup, with Cleveland sitting at 1-0 and Boston at 0-1 in Group Play.

Best Starts in NBA History
Best Starts in NBA History

Offensively, the Cavaliers lead the NBA in points per game (123.7) and offensive rating (122.1), while the Celtics sit just behind, ranking second in both categories (121.6 points, 121.4 offensive rating). Cleveland has already set a team record with seven games scoring 130 or more points.

Cleveland aims to extend its road dominance with a victory, which would give them an 8-0 record on the road, making them the 12th team in NBA history to start the season with eight consecutive road wins. Meanwhile, Boston will look to build on their recent dramatic overtime win, with Jayson Tatum hitting a buzzer-beating, game-winning three-pointer in their last game against the Toronto Raptors.
