It was undoubtedly a weekend full of love, as several noteworthy celebrities tied the knot. Not only did Sofia Richie and her beau Elliott Grainge exchange vows, but Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and NFL player Jonathan Owens were also married in Houston. The latter ceremony took place on Saturday (April 22) and was a quaint courthouse affair with close family and friends. The 26-year-old made sure to share plenty of content with her fans on social media following the wedding, though some internet trolls had unkind comments to make about her hairstyle of choice for the big day.

Biles certainly kept it simple, wearing her shiny black inches back into a high ponytail with beautiful waves hanging by her shoulders. Around her face, some baby hairs and edges sit, unlaid, which is markedly a serious problem for some. “I’m happy for Simone Biles Owens, but mfs acting like her edges didn’t look bad is annoying,” one person wrote on Twitter. “It’s not hating to point out something factual???” they added. Thankfully, the love for the Ohio native came out on top of the hate, with many others speaking out in defence of her simple style.

“Simone Biles is one of THEE top gymnasts we’ve ever seen, has overcome situations of abuse and other obstacles in her childhood, has defined her own success and found love and is now happily married,” one of them pointed out. “And y’all worried about her hair..?!” The newlywed caught sight of this sweet message and took time out of her day to respond. “I think they also forget I live in HOUSTON, TEXAS and I sweat those out!!” Biles pointed out.

“Soon as we stepped outside for pics,” she added. “But they can keep complaining, idc idc idc,” the athlete’s message ended, making it clear that she’s completely unbothered by the discourse surrounding her hair, or anything else to do with her and Owens’ special moment. Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens officially tied the knot over the past weekend in Texas. Biles shared photos of the special occasion on her official Instagram account. The Olympic star shared a photo of herself and her new husband with the caption, “I do. Officially Owens.” The two were engaged for over a year before their big weekend. Biles became an instant star in her first-ever Olympics appearance. The distinguished Olympian was a part of one of the greatest Team USA gymnastics teams to ever assemble for the big event. According to a Wall Street Journal interview from 2020, Biles says the two may have different stories about how their love began. “He would say I slid into his DMs,’ Biles revealed. I saw him and I was like, Oh, he’s pretty cute, so I said hi and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.” A simple slide into a DM sparked the fire between the new couple. However, neither one is going to admit who instigated the conversation.

A special day that has been a year in the making has finally come true for Biles and Owens. An excellent moment for Owens to enjoy before entering training camp for the Texans upcoming season. Simone Biles is officially a married woman. Biles is now married to Houston Texans player Jonathan Owens. The pair released images on social media over the weekend.

“I do 🤍 officially owens 🤍,” Biles wrote.

“My person, forever ❤💍,” Owens returned.

After meeting in March 2020 via the dating app Raya, the two added marriage to their love story.

Last week, Simone Biles withdrew from the US women’s gymnastics team due to mental health issues. She later revealed that she suffered from the “twisties,” a condition that leads to “not having your mind and body in sync.” (She later returned to the team and won a Bronze.) Despite her honesty towards an absolutely reasonable excuse, she faced criticism from the likes of Piers Morgan and Michael Che while receiving support from names like Justin Bieber, Kevin Love, and now Taylor Swift.

“Throughout the last week, her voice has been as significant as her talents,” the singer said in a video with NBC. “Her honesty as beautiful as the perfection that had long been her signature. But don’t you see? It still is. She is perfectly human. And that’s what makes it so easy to call her a hero. Simone Biles, back on the beam, in Tokyo.”

Biles caught wind of the video and hopped on Twitter to thank Swift for her words. “I’m crying how special. I love you @taylorswift13,” the gymnast wrote. Swift replied, “I cried watching YOU. I feel so lucky to have gotten to watch you all these years, but this week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”
