Gunna Dethrones Drake For 2023’s Most Streamed Hip-Hop Song In The U.S.

One of the prevailing narratives around hip-hop in 2023 has been its relative downturn in commercial success compared to past years. While that argument is true for top chart placements and such, to say that rap is “dying” would be a massive misconception. After all, there have been no shortage of massive tracks this year, and one of the genre’s most money-making artists just got beat out by an “underdog” story from a massive MC in his own right. Moreover, Gunna’s “fukumean” just recently beat out Drake’s “Search & Rescue” as the most streamed rap song from this year in the United States.

Considering the tight pull that both lyricists have over the game right now, this shouldn’t come as much surprise. Wunna’s album a Gift & a Curse prompted one of the most diverse discussion topics in rap, centered around his plea deal in the YSL RICO case. As for Drake, he dominates commercial metrics all the time, and getting past him is no easy task. With his upcoming album For All The Dogs releasing soon, maybe a cut from that (or a few) will reclaim this accolade.

“fukumean” Versus “Search & Rescue”: Gunna Takes The Crown

Of course, thanks to the aforementioned controversy around his release, we haven’t seen these two link up in some time. Still, we can’t really say whether that’s explicitly because of Drake “picking a side” in the “snitching” conversation. In fact, most of the developments in that area revolve around gossip, bars open to interpretation, and very little from the actual artists. For example, despite all the ruckus, Gunna still gave Young Thug a birthday shoutout at his recent show. For now, all we can really take in as fans and listeners is the music itself, and in that regard, Wunna certainly made his mark this year.

Meanwhile, the 6 God will likely join that conversation of the best rap-adjacent albums of the year alongside a Gift & a Curse very soon. His recent single with SZA, “Slime You Out,” took more of an R&B direction, but there will probably be some killer verses on here. One thing’s for sure, though: don’t expect this to diminish “fukumean” or “Search & Rescue” on the aux for the rest of 2023. On that note, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Gunna and Drake.

Lil Durk’s Cut Verse From Drake’s “Search & Rescue” Leaked

Drake released “Search & Rescue” in April 2023. While the song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, it also received something of a cool reception. Many people see it as a fairly mid song, while Drake die-hards either love it or argue that it’s a song that grows on you. The song is most a Drake solo feature, with the exception of a random bridge from Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. However, that wasn’t always the case.

It’s been a pretty great year for Lil Durk. His single, “All My Life ft. J. Cole” is currently #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, the song has nearly 75.5 million streams on Spotify at the time of writing. Elsewhere, his new album Almost Healed debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. However, it turns out that Lil Durk was supposed to feature on “Search & Rescue”, but his verse was ultimately cut. The audio of that verse has now leaked on the internet.

Lil Durk Verse Contained Pee-Drinking Reference

While the cut verse is lengthy, there’s one part in particular that’s raising eyebrows. Per Genius, at around the midpoint of the verse, Durk says “I’m worse than Kevin Gates, I’m me (Yeah, yeah)/India know I’m down to drink pee (Woah, woah, woah, I-I-I)/OP, mix it with the lean (Yeah, yeah).” According to these lyrics, Durk cops to drinking urine, just like self-professed watersports (and TMI Instagram connoisseur) Kevin Gates. In fact, Durk goes as far as to say that he mixes his wife’s urine into his lean. The “OP” reference is a little unclear but whether it’s “over-proof” or “overpowered”, Durk appears to be saying that his wife’s urine hits hard.

In regard to how people have responded to the leak, it’s mostly confusion. Of course, there’s had a handful of detractors representing the increasingly Puritan societal norms of the modern world. Meanwhile, there is a number of people who think the verse actually makes the song better. However, the general consensus is just mild confusion. After all, it’s not like it’s a video of Lil Durk drinking his wife’s urine. It’s just three lines in a 24-line verse. Despite this, it’s clear that it’s probably not the vibe Drake was going for on the track.

Who’s The Kim Kardashian Lookalike On Drake Single Cover Art? We Now Know

Even though it’s been over a year since Drake and Kanye West “resolved” their beef, the former is still sending shots at the latter– or at least, that’s what many believe. Moreover, the 6 God’s latest cover art featured a lookalike of Kim Kardashian on the cover, wearing matching motorcycle helmets with the rapper. While that’s up for interpretation, a lot of people came to that conclusion online. However, we now know that the woman on the cover art is actually an artist named Lilah. Still, a lot of factors in the song hint at the 36-year-old still wanting more smoke with Ye.

Furthermore, the most glaring piece of evidence is him sampling Kim talking about her divorce on “Search & Rescue.” “I didn’t come this far just to come this far and not be happy. Remember that,” she says in the audio clip, which comes through about a quarter of the way through the song. Considering Drake’s lovey-dovey lyrics on the track, many assume he rapped about the SKIMS mogul. He does, though, say that he doesn’t need someone as famous as him, so maybe that theory doesn’t hold much weight.

Kim Kardashian Lookalike On Drake’s Cover Art Identified

Regardless, that doesn’t mean that Kanye hasn’t noticed, especially after Drake’s subliminal diss on his Her Loss track “Circo Loco.” “Linking with the opps, b***h, I did that s**t for J. Prince,” he rapped on the track. Before that, the Chicago rapper addressed the situation on Twitter in a since-deleted message. “Enough already I done gave this man his flowers multiple times,” he wrote. “Let’s really see who [our] real opps are in this music game. Imagine all the rappers on the same side and everyone cleaning up each other’s contracts. It’s kingdom time. Love Drake.”

Before that, he accused Drake on Drink Champs of claiming to have gotten with Kim Kardashian, although she denied it. “It’s like somebody throwing a marble and hiding their hand,” Kanye expressed. Meanwhile, Dennis Graham, Drizzy’s father, said that he meant nothing by the song, and it’s all just coincidence at the end of the day. But do you think there’s something deeper going on with “Search & Rescue”? Let us know in the comments and return to HNHH for the latest on Drake and Kim Kardashian.

Drake Fans Think He’s Trolling Kanye West With “Search & Rescue” Cover

We thought that the long-standing feud between Drake and Kanye West ended when they joined forces for the Free Larry Hoover benefit concert. Though the two were all smiles, walking down the Los Angeles Coliseum together, it seems to be all show. The Take Care rapper seemingly took shots at Ye on Her Loss record, “Circo Loco,” where he suggested that he only patched things up with the Chicago rapper because of J Prince. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the only shot he took at Ye recently.

Last week, The Boy debuted his single, “Search & Rescue” which earned praise from his fans, though there was also a bit of controversy that followed. During the song, he samples a conversation between Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner discussing the SKIMS founder’s divorce from Kanye West. That alone left fans with the impression that Drizzy was trolling his nemesis, though Dennis Graham, the Canadian rapper’s dad, insisted that wasn’t the case. “Drake is not trolling anyone, it’s just a song. Why try and create a Kanye and Drake beef again?” Graham wrote.

Is Kim Kardashian On Drake’s “Search & Rescue” Artwork?

Something seemed familiar when Drizzy shared the artwork for “Search & Rescue.” The cover art includes a photo of the rapper and a woman wearing motorcycle helmets. However, the individual that isn’t Drake bore similarities to Kim Kardashian. A few days after the song debuted on OVO Sound, Kim shared a selfie of herself in the helmet, and many felt that the cover art references the photo.

So far, Kim Kardashian, Kanye nor Drake have commented on the controversy surrounding the single. However, it seems like it could be referenced in the next season of The Kardashians if anything. Still, Kanye previously said that he has no intentions of pursuing the feud any further. After appearing on podcasts and interviews praising the Toronto rapper, he said that he wasn’t going to breed any more issues. Will “Search & Rescue” change that? Who knows but people are certainly losing their minds over the cover art. Check a few reactions below and let us know your thoughts on Drake’s latest single in the comments.

Drake Announces New Single “Search & Rescue”

Drake’s coming through with new heat for the weekend. The Her Loss rapper has been steadily hinting at the release of Scary Hours 3. Though he hasn’t set a release date, several snippets of new music have emerged. Last week, the rapper shared a new single titled, “Rescue Me,” which caused quite a stir. The song, which samples Kim Kardashian’s voice, spurred speculation that The Boy was going at Kanye’s neck, again. Dennis Graham, Drake’s dad, confirmed that wasn’t the case.

Regardless of the perceived diss, fans agree that Drake has another hit on his hand. Yeat’s go-to producer, BNXY, who works closely with Yeat, holds down the production alongside SadPony on the record, which debuted on OVO Sound Radio last Friday. Though it’s not uncommon for Drake to premiere new music and then keep it in the stash, that’s not the case with “Rescue Me.” The rapper hit the ‘Gram on Thursday afternoon to confirm that the song, which is actually titled “Search & Rescue,” would officially be available on streaming services at midnight.

Drake Drops New Single

Drizzy’s upcoming single will mark his first solo release of the year, as well as his first official drop since he teamed up with 21 Savage for Her Loss. Given that Drake doesn’t necessarily release music without a purpose, one could only hope that it leads to something bigger. Whether it’s Scary Hours or a new project, it seems like something’s in the pipeline to dominate summer 2023. It’s unclear what that might be but at least, we’ll have some new music from Drake to ride out to for the coming weeks.

Beyond his upcoming single, Drake’s preparing to hit the road for his upcoming It’s All A Blur tour with 21 Savage. The rapper announced the tour a few weeks back but he’s prepared for the summer-long run with a spree of performances across the Americas. He delivered a handful of concerts in Latin America and most recently, joined J. Cole for Dreamville Festival, where the co-headlined the final night and brought out a slew of guests.
