Doja Cat Shows Off Her Backside With A Revealing Album Cover To Announce ‘Scarlet II: Claude Frollo’

For a little while now, Doja Cat has been teasing a deluxe edition of her album Scarlet. Now, she has revealed more, and “revealed” is the right word there: She shared the cover art for Scarlet II: Claude Frollo today (April 2), and it features a photo of Doja facing away from the camera in a squatting position, which shows off her mostly bare backside.

Back in January, Doja shared a working tracklist for the project, featuring songs called “Acknowledge Me,” “Head High,” “Gang,” “Masc,” “Rider,” Urrrge,” and “Hungry.” It remains to be seen how or if the tracklist will end up being different than that version. “Masc” is definitely included, as Doja is set to release the song soon.

In an interview on The Therapy Gecko Podcast in February, Doja explained her reasoning for naming the project after Hunchback Of Notre Dame character Claude Frollo, saying:

“Because he is like a… is he a tyrant? He’s like a… I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some way. And if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand kind of the whole connection. There’s a control aspect, like he just abuses his power and his control and is just dogmatic and is just a total c*nt. And all Esmerelda wanted to do was just be creative and sing and dance, but nasty old Claude Frollo was just having a field day on her, just being awful and a bad guy, stinky man.

And this isn’t about anyone in… there’s not anything very personal happening to me with one person. Claude Frollo doesn’t depict a single person in my life. It’s like a metaphor for the people that creatives endure on a daily basis in a bigger picture, a bigger scale.”

Doja Cat posted on Instagram that an upcoming new single, “Masc,” is dropping on April 5. The pop artist, who’s been exploring her rap roots lately, shared a snippet of the song in the post. Back in January, she posted a whiteboard image with a tracklist. That’s where she hinted at “S2,” which eluded to the deluxe edition of “Scarlet,” coming soon. On that trackless was today’s announcement for “Masc” among seven other songs, including “Acknowledge Me,” “Head High,” “Gang,” “Rider,” “Urge,” and “Hungry.”

ICYMI, last month, Doja appeared on “The Therapy Gecko Podcast,” yes that’s a thing in the world of social audio, and it’s popular, so anyway, the conversation revealed that Scarlet 2 is a deluxe edition of its predecessor “Scarlet” and will be entitled “Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo.” If you need a brief literary lesson, that comes from the iconic character of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Here’s what else she said “I feel like it connects to the story of ‘Scarlet’ in some way,” she said, “and if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand the whole connection. There’s a control aspect. He just abuses his power and his control and is dogmatic and a total cunt.” 

As Variety reported, “Scarlet” was supposed to be Doja Cat’s return to her rap roots. This came about after much criticism that Doja was too much in the pop lane, and some even considered her previous two albums “cash grabs.” Um, so? Get your money, Doja, and that she did with Scarlet. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and came with hit singles that included “Attention,” “Agora Hills,” and “Paint the Town Red,” which all hit the top of the Hot 100. Sheesh. Pop or rap, she wins. 

Get this: Doja is booked to headline at Coachella, which will precede her first arena tour, which she is headlining in the United Kingdom and Europe. Doja’s first U.K. concert is slated for June 9 in Manchester, then she has scheduled stops in Paris, Sweden and Norway. Let’s see what “Masc” sounds like and see if her return to rap still holds up. We think it will.

Doja Cat is known for having a wicked sense of humor. The Grammy Award-winner certainly isn’t above toeing the line when it comes to obscene topics, including Satanism. However, when it comes to her hair, all bets are off.

During what appears to be an Instagram Live, the “Agora Hills” rapper slammed trolls for their childish remarks about her hair. “I’m seeing a consistent pattern in my comment section of people asking, ‘Is my hair pubic hair,” she said. “And it’s not even questions. Some people are like, ‘That is what it is.’ We gotta move forward. Let’s stop… I need you guys to get on that…not comparing 4C hair textures to pubes.”

The influx of comments stemmed from Doja unveiling the cover artwork for her forthcoming single, “Masc.” On March 29, the musician returned from her brief hiatus from the platform to share the news of the track’s pending release. However, given the influx of insensitive critiques, Doja could disappear from the platform yet again.

In her goodbye letter to followers, Doja was spot on when she wrote, “The way I’m spoken to on here and treated makes me have f*cked up thoughts.” Users recent actions validated her initial desire to disappear from social media.

The tension between Doja Cat and users online has become too much to handle. From the criticism about her rumored boyfriend to being branded a “Satanist,” the “Paint The Town Red” rapper is done defending herself across social media. Yesterday (March 9), Doja announced she was done with the Instagram platform.

Before Doja deactivated her account, she penned a note to explain what went into the decision. “Hey, I’m gonna deactivate because I’m not really feeling this anymore,” she wrote. “You guys take care of yourselves. I like coming here to find inspo and see people being creative. But I just feel like this is getting to be too much.”

She went on to provide examples of what she’s had to endure. “The way I’m spoken to on here and treated makes me have f*cked up thoughts,” she said. “Please watch how you talk to and about people on the internet. Bye.”

Back in July 2023, Doja called out her “Kittenz” super fans for their “silly” support name and demanded they “get a job.” After her statement, many pages dedicated to her were deactivated in protest, and she lost over 250,000 Instagram followers. Since then, users who called her out for past jokes about Cardi B and Kanye West have monitored her online activity.

Doja Cat Teases “Scarlet” Deluxe Edition

Doja Cat has confirmed that she’s working on a deluxe version of her latest album, Scalet. Speaking with her fans on Instagram Live, she recently previewed an unreleased song and asked whether it should make the tracklist. The latest confirmation comes after Doja shared a list of seven unreleased tracks on her Instagram Story, last month. They included: “Acknowledge Me,” “Head High,” “Gang,” “Masc,” “Rider,” Urrrge,” and “Hungry.”

“I may play a song that’s not out yet that I am releasing,” she said. “And if you guys don’t like it, I won’t put it on the deluxe. And if I don’t put it on the deluxe that will be fine but I need an opinion. I need an opinion from you.” The post has fans excited for new music from Doja. When The Jasmine Brand shared the clip on Instagram, one fan commented: “Now that’s a rollout. Release your deluxe version months after the original’s release not the next week.” Another wrote: “Will be tuning in because the first volume was fire.”

Doja Cat Seemed To Tease That A ‘Scarlet’ Deluxe Album Could Be Released Soon With A Working Tracklist

This week, rap fans have showered Doja Cat with praise following her guest verses on tracks “Jeezu” and “N.H.I.E.” Even Jay-Z weighed in on Doja Cat’s artistry, giving his stamp of approval regarding her lyrical abilities. Following the unexpected wave of support, Doja Cat took to her official Instagram page to hint that she has plenty more intricate bars to dish out.

On January 13, in an Instagram Story upload, Doja Cat teased that the deluxe edition of her Scarlet album could be released soon. The photograph posted on her page was of a whiteboard outlining a working playlist for the project. Fans better brace themselves if this is a taste of what’s to come.

Instead of adding one or two new songs, it seems as if the forthcoming project would feature seven new records (“Acknowledge Me,” “Head High,” “Gang,” “Masc,” “Rider,” Urrrge,” and “Hungry”).

One fan online pointed out that Doja Cat still has other leftover tracks that could easily be considered for the album. “Just please let ‘Shots’ & ‘Whip’ be added too,” they wrote.

Rather than adhering to the traditional deluxe album format, with seven new records and two older options up for grabs, Doja Cat can craft an entirely new body of work, taking a page out of SZA’s playbook. But Doja Cat supporters will want to take this teaser with a grain of salt, especially considering how many revisions Scarlet underwent before it was shared with the world.

Doja Cat Originally Wasn’t A Fan Of “Paint The Town Red”: “It Reminded Me Of Like, GAP”

Doja Cat says she originally wasn’t a fan of her song, “Paint The Town Red,” and that it reminded her of something that would play in a grocery store. She discussed the evolution of the track during an interview with Ebro Darden for Apple Music on Thursday.

“I thought ‘Paint The Town Red’ reminded me of like, Target or like Macy’s. It reminded me of like, GAP,” she admitted during the conversation. “I don’t why. It just kind of is that. And I know it starts with a curse word and it’s like a little bit edgy in that sense and I say, ‘I’m a demon, Lord!’ Like yeah, I get that, but that song just had a very pants-up-high vibe. And you know I think strategically because I can be strategic. I think it was a good addition to the album and a strong addition to the album. I know that it’s a strong song. And I did [expect it to be as popular as it is] and I was kind of running that from a little bit. I didn’t really want to have that pants-up-high song, the goofy, kind of palatable…”

Doja Cat Performs On The “Scarlet Tour”

She continued: “I wanted to make a little bit of a darker, slower album but I don’t think this was the time for that. I think keeping it on the album was a smart move because I want to slowly trickle into sort of moodier vibes creatively. Like, I’m not gonna be doing that forever.” Despite her lack of confidence in the song, it debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three straight weeks at No. 1. Doja Cat Pushes Back Against ‘Satanist’ Claims From Her Haters, Asking ‘When The F*ck Did I Say That’

Doja Cat recently sat down for an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, where she spoke about everything from her new album, Scarlet, to pushing back about the fact that people perceive her as a Satanist.

As she explains, it’s part of the album’s era — and was meant to be divisive.

“I like the idea of: I did it on purpose and it’s this big ruse to make people react,” Doja said, according to HipHopDX. “But I also like the idea of: I love this piece of visual art, I like this visual for this sound… So I chose that visual and applied it to the sound and people made up what they [want], which is what you do with art. “You interpret it how you want to interpret it. Everybody has a right to interpret how they want.”

“But this whole very confident ‘Satanism’ thing is like — I’m sorry, when the f*ck did I say that I was a Satanist?” she added. “Or even go marching outside the church? When the fuck did I say that? It’s really tacky and annoying and discredits a lot of the hard work that I’ve put in.”

“It’s me saying f*ck Stan Twitter,” she said. “There’s that obsessiveness behind it, all the malice towards women in stan culture. The condescending-ness of people being like, ‘Mother, oh my god, queen, mother,’ and expecting them to give and deliver and serve for the purpose of serving and not just expressing themselves. And in the same breath, they’ll insult that person as well as call them ‘mother.’ None of that sh*t is real, that’s where ‘F*ck The Girls’ comes from.”

Doja Cat Apologizes For Recent Concert Says She Was “Not Happy With Her Energy”

Doja Cat is no stranger to facing criticism online. She famously picked a fight with her own fans earlier this year. The reason for the beef was her disapproval of the name her stans picked for themselves “Kittenz.” The spat resulted in her losing hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers though she didn’t seem to particularly care. Doja Cat Critiques Her Own Performance

Last month, Doja Cat took off on the Scarlet tour supporting her new album. Alongside Ice Spice and Doechii, she’s been dazzling arenas across the US for weeks now. But one recent performance wasn’t up to her own standards for herself. “I’m so f*ckin sorry. New Jersey I don’t know what the f*ck that was. I’m really not happy with my energy tonight,” she said on her Instagram story overnight. The show in question took place overnight at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. It’s the 17th show on The Scarlet Tour so far.

It’s unclear if there was any specific reason why she felt her performance wasn’t up to par. In the comments, fans point out that she’s sounded like she’s sick during some recent shows.
