Doja Cat Tells Jack Harlow Why “Scarlet” Was An “Angry” Album

Doja Cat says that her 2023 album, Scarlet, was an “angry project.” She made the comments while speaking with Jack Harlow for Present Space. The album featured several hit singles including “Paint the Town Red” and “Agora Hills.” It peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200.

“I think the point of that album was to showcase anger and how it processes through my mind, but also it’s about coming to your own defense and love,” Doja explained to Harlow. “It’s sort of my ‘Why I oughta!’ moment of squaring up with everyone and defending myself, telling myself that I’m here for me, and not just for everybody else’s enjoyment.”

Doja Cat Performs During Wireless Festival In London

From there, Doja discussed her relationship with social media and argued that humans aren’t evolved enough to use the internet. As for how she chooses who to follow, she explained: “I know that I just shouldn’t follow people who aren’t going to be creative, because that’s more mentally stimulating to me in a positive way, to follow people who are creating something new. It’s a safe haven for me as opposed to a place where I am watching people either pretend to be happy or genuinely be happy. I don’t want to use my phone in order to witness people’s happiness which I’d rather experience in reality.”

She’s made countless headlines for her antics on social media over the years. In 2023, she faced backlash after posting a selfie wearing a t-shirt featuring alt-right comedian Sam Hyde. She’s also gone back and forth with her followers on X (formerly Twitter) on numerous occasions. Be on the lookout for further updates on Doja Cat on HotNewHipHop.

Doja Cat Puts On Provocative Performance Of “Wet V**ina” At Coachella & Twerks Up A Storm

Coachella 2024 is now officially over. The celebrated and storied music festival had its second weekend of performances that went from April 19 to April 21. There were a lot of headlines that spawned from the festivities, including a new Ice Spice track dissing Latto, and Doja Cat putting on a multi-faceted headlining show. People were raving about it last week for its choreography, costumes and props, as well as the show-stopping energy from the California multi-hyphenate. It was also a bit of a twist and quite refreshing to see her not play just her biggest songs. Doja Cat wanted to highlight songs like “Wet V**ina,” for example and did she ever by twerking like a maniac.

Since the themes of the song include self-confidence while also embracing your sexuality and your desires, Doja made sure to shed light on that during the performance. In the full video below, she goes centerstage all by herself and rolls around in a mud bath. At around the 30 second mark is the part that most fans are going to want to see, though. Doja shook her rear end like no one was around, as she really embraced the raunchy nature of the song.

Doja Cat Shows Out On Stage

However, about a minute later 10 female back up dancers joined her onstage to get drenched in mud. Fans had nothing but positive reviews for the show and the “Wet V**ina” performance once again. One person writes, “She really has outstanding stage presence and knows how to rule the stage, it might be too “sexual” for some people, but I think that’s the point of the performance and I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching it. def top performance from this year.” Another adds, “My mind went blank when you performed it… Such an iconic performance.”

What are your thoughts on Doja Cat twerking during her performance of “Wet Vagina?” Is she the best live performer in hip-hop right now, why or why not? Is this one of your favorite songs from Scarlet? Are you still bumping the album or its deluxe, Scarlet 2: CLAUDE? The Scarlet Tour was impressive enough, but Doja Cat brought out all the stops for her headlining Coachella 2024 set on Sunday night, April 14, including 21 Savage, ASAP Rocky, and Teezo Touchdown. In fact, Doja was responsible for three of the best surprise performances across all of Coachella’s first weekend at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. According to Uproxx’s Aaron Williams, Doja “showed what a headliner is supposed to be.”

Unfortunately, Doja is very offline right now — only temporarily interrupting her social media hiatus to announce her “MASC” single and promote her Scarlet deluxe album — so she didn’t share an unfiltered self-review like she almost assuredly would have done if she had headlined Coachella before her social media hiatus took hold.

So, you’ll have to settle for a plain ol’ delivery of Doja Cat’s full Coachella 2024 setlist below, as chronicled on setlist.fm.

Doja Cat And Teezo Touchdown’s Surreal ‘MASC’ Video Is An Avant-Garde Fantasy

The deluxe version of Doja Cat’s album Scarlet, Scarlet 2 Claude, has arrived, bringing seven new tracks to the project including “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” featuring ASAP Rocky and “MASC” with Teezo Touchdown. The latter gets an avant-garde music video, with Doja and Teezo singing their respective verses in some haute couture ensembles as Doja casts creepy shadows and directors Doja and Jamal Peters have some fun with camera angles, lighting, and lens distortions.

“MASC” finds Doja Cat admonishing a lover as his combative behaviors make her question their relationship. “You gave me the dick, then gave the dick without the D,” she raps. Teezo inhabits the role of the scorned beau as he takes stock and realizes, “I’m not that tough, I need your love, I need your touch.”

Scarlet 2 Claude had a bit of a bumpy rollout. After Doja teased she was planning to release a deluxe edition of Scarlet in January, the fan frenzy for it backfired as it leaked online days before the release date. Doja played it cool, though, writing, “its definitely messed up cuz i wanted to put it out myself but theres nothing i can do about it!! thats just how its gonna be but at least i can just keep being creative and look forward to the awesome things i have coming up!!”

She also shut down some fans’ assumptions that she took shots at Cardi B on one of the leaked songs, telling one fan to “get a life” in response to being asked directly about any beef between the two stars.

Doja Cat Returns With Deluxe Version Of Album: “Scarlet II: Claude Frollo”

Doja Cat is back in the spotlight, and she’s not letting the haters slow her down one bit. Despite facing criticism for nearly everything she does, the California rapper and singer still lets the hate motivate her. In fact, she received criticism for revealing the cover art for her new single “Masc.” Fans quickly took to the internet, with some amusingly mistaking the artwork for “pubic hair” or “sheep’s wool.” However, Doja Cat wasted no time in setting the record straight, urging everyone to move forward and grow while expressing her frustration at the misconceptions.

But, Doja Cat’s cover art revelation for “Masc” wasn’t just any ordinary release. Moreover, it was part of the promotion for Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo, the deluxe edition of her previous album. It’s actually the lead single of the project and features Teezo Touchdown. The project also boasts features from ASAP Rocky. Furthermore, it’s worth noting the inspiration behind the title Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo for those unfamiliar with the reference. Claude Frollo is the antagonist from the 1831 French novel “The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame” and Disney’s animated 1996 film adaptation. In a recent interview on The Therapy Gecko Podcast in February, Doja Cat shed light on why she chose to name the project after this character. She explained, “Because he is like a… is he a tyrant? He’s like a… I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some way. And if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand kind of the whole connection.”

Doja Cat continued, “There’s a control aspect, like he just abuses his power and his control and is just dogmatic and is just a total c*nt. And all Esmerelda wanted to do was just be creative and sing and dance, but nasty old Claude Frollo was just having a field day on her, just being awful and a bad guy, stinky man.” This insight provides a deeper understanding of the thematic elements and narrative connections within Doja Cat’s project.

What do you think of the deluxe? Does it enhance the original Scarlet album, or does it fall short of expectations? Fans can rest assured that HNHH will be there every step of the way, providing updates on all things Doja Cat. Doja Cat Shuts Down Fan Over Supposed Cardi B Diss

Doja Cat is easily one of the biggest artists in the world right now. Overall, she has crafted some massive hits. Moreover, she has garnered some controversy due to some statements made on social media. For instance, last year she found herself beefing with her fans over their love for her pop hits. Not to mention, she wore a t-shirt with Sam Hyde on it, which led to even more scrutiny. That said, Scarlet was a dope album, and fans ultimately tuned in. In fact, a deluxe version of the album is coming soon.

With this new version of the project coming out soon, Doja Cat has been more active on social media as of late. She has been talking about some of the new songs that are about to come out, and the tracks that she likes the most. In one tweet, she wrote “disrespectful is one of my top 3 fav.” This prompted a response from a fan who said “ok but which one did you whack Cardi B on?” Fans have suspected a Cardi B diss track for a while. However, Doja immediately shut the fan down in their tracks.

Doja Cat Shut Down Rumors That She Dissed Cardi B On ‘Scarlet II’ In A Perfectly Doja Cat Way

It’s been a hectic week for Doja Cat. Last Friday, March 29, Doja ended her Instagram hiatus to announce her single, “MASC,” which is due out on Friday, April 5. On Tuesday, she revealed her revealing cover art for her long-teased Scarlet deluxe album, Scarlet II: Claude Frollo, and fielded outrage about the album leaking shortly thereafter. So, she did not have the time or energy for someone’s inquiry about a rumored Cardi B diss.

On Wednesday, April 3, Doja Cat shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Scarlet II track “DISRESPECTFUL” is “one of my top 3 fav.” Someone replied, “Ok but which one did you Whack Cardi B on?” Doja Cat, as only Doja Cat would, replied two minutes later with, “none of them get a f*ckin life.”

Previously, people speculated that Doja name-checked Cardi B in “ACKNOWLEDGE ME.” An alleged clip of the song has been circulated online. One person posted the clip and wrote, “barking like Cardi B? is this shade Doja?” Another person replied with a guess as to what the lyrics were, and Doja did not acknowledge the questions related to Cardi B but corrected them on the line, “SNIFFING ON SOME CARLY RAE*.”

Doja Cat released Scarlet last September. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and spawned three nominations at the 2024 Grammys.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Doja Cat’s Deluxe ‘Scarlet’ Album Leaked, But She Absolutely Couldn’t Care Less About It And Explained Why

Doja Cat is gearing up to release the deluxe edition of her album Scarlet soon, but some, it would seem, have already gotten ahold of it via leaks. While some artists get upset about leaks, it looks like Doja doesn’t care even a little bit.

In response to one fan asking Doja to “do something” about the leak, Doja responded, “idk why you guys care so much about leaks.” She added in another tweet, “what does it mean when someone leaks an album why do people get upset?”

Somebody responded, “cuz you lose streams,” and Doja replied, “but i dont care????” Somebody else said, “the album will still be a hit ikdr muva,” and Doja answered, “why does that matter either though?”

One fan, surprised by Doja’s response to this news, tweeted, “Thought you would be cussing out people having a breakdown or sum.” Doja replied, “LMAO nah [crying emoji].” Another user wrote, “I mean it’s lowkey disrespectful if you set a date and people are dropping it early w/o permission.” Doja responded, “No its definitely messed up cuz i wanted to put it out myself but theres nothing i can do about it!! thats just how its gonna be but at least i can just keep being creative and look forward to the awesome things i have coming up!!”

Who Is Claude Frollo From Doja Cat’s ‘Scarlet’ Deluxe?

Yesterday (April 2), Doja Cat unveiled the (revealing) album cover for her upcoming Scarlet deluxe edition, titled Scarlet II: Claude Frollo. One question that might immediately bring to mind is:

Who Is Claude Frollo From Doja Cat’s Scarlet Deluxe?

Frollo is the antagonist from the 1831 French novel The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame (and Disney’s The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, the animated 1996 film based on the book). Maybe you recognize the Disney version from this commonly used reaction image.

In a The Therapy Gecko Podcast interview from February, Doja explained why she named the project after the character, saying:

“Because he is like a… is he a tyrant? He’s like a… I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some way. And if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand kind of the whole connection. There’s a control aspect, like he just abuses his power and his control and is just dogmatic and is just a total c*nt. And all Esmerelda wanted to do was just be creative and sing and dance, but nasty old Claude Frollo was just having a field day on her, just being awful and a bad guy, stinky man.

And this isn’t about anyone in… there’s not anything very personal happening to me with one person. Claude Frollo doesn’t depict a single person in my life. It’s like a metaphor for the people that creatives endure on a daily basis in a bigger picture, a bigger scale.”

Doja Cat Announces “Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo” And Reveals A Mystery Feature In New Trailer

Doja Cat still has a lot of haters out there, but that is not going to stop her one bit from making a massive return. A few days ago, the California rapper and singer revealed cover art for an upcoming single “Masc.” It went viral on social media, with fans declaring it was the artist’s “pubic hair” or “sheep’s wool”. However, she decided to clear the air, albeit frustratingly. “Let’s move forward. Let’s grow. “Cause I can’t tell you what to do, I’m not your f***ing parents. Like pubic hair? Really? That’s where we stand.” Dust settling aside, this Doja Cat track was announced to promote Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo, the deluxe of her last record.

According to HipHopDX, fans were treated to this pleasant news by way of a trailer and sneak peek of “Masc.” The teaser features Doja Cat in silhouette, complemented with smooth videography, and a white backdrop with a shadow of the spider from the Scarlet cover. However, for a brief moment, there is another figure shown to us. The person appears for just long enough for us to decipher that it is almost certainly Teezo Touchdown.

Fans in the comments spotted the massive shoulder pads and bowl haircut as well, with one person saying, “IS THAT TEEZO?!!!!” Genius also seems to believe that to be the case, as he is credited as a feature on “Masc.” There is a possibility of 11 bonus cuts, according to them, but we will not know for sure until it drops. Speaking of which, Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo will hit streaming services on Friday, April 5. Doja first teased the idea of a deluxe back in January.

What are your thoughts on Doja Cat announcing Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo? Is this going to improve Scarlet, or make it worse and why? Do you think the silhouette in the trailer for “Masc” is Teezo Touchdown? If it is, will this collaboration be a success, why or why not? Is the album still in your rotation? If so, which tracks? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Doja Cat, Teezo Touchdown, and Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo.
