Kendrick Lamar “GNX” First Week Sales Are Officially In

Kendrick Lamar gave hip-hop a treat at the end of the year after already turning 2024 into one of rap’s most notable championship years for any artist. Unsurprisingly, that treat – his surprise album GNX – performed incredibly well. It turns out that first week sales projections for the LP were accurate, as it officially sold 324K album-equivalent units during this tracking period. Per HITS Daily Double, about 290K of those are from streaming services, whereas pure album sales accounted for almost 33K. Even with the lack of promo and the absence of some earlier material, a K.Dot drop translated into a massive splash… Who’s surprised?

But the conversations around GNX are not just numbers-based. In fact, that’s the smallest part of the equation. Lyrically, the album had a lot of interesting points, such as an Ab-Soul shoutout that he recently reflected on. “I’m very honored,” he shared on Instagram Live about Kendrick Lamar. “That’s my brother. I guarantee he didn’t study me as much as I studied him. He taught me the most as a professional recording artist. I just wanted to make that very clear. I am the B.O.A.T, I am the best rapper, that’s it. Ask anyone. I say that humbly. It’s not from a place of arrogance. I really do this.”

Kendrick Lamar GNX First Week Sales

As one of the biggest rappers right now, Kendrick Lamar’s commercial success with GNX was a matter of scale, as its success was never a question. After all, his 2012 classic good kid, m.A.A.d. city is still outselling some of the biggest hip-hop releases of 2024 within that year, including Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES 1. Of course, you can probably say that about a whole lot of artists out there.

Nevertheless, seeing fans enjoy GNX and witnessing its entry into pop culture has been a pretty fun ride so far. Kendrick Lamar still offered a lot of food for thought and did not compromise on catchy songwriting and immediate beats to do so. All that remains to determine is how long the album will sustain this hype, and with a Super Bowl halftime show on the way, fans are betting on a long reign.

Kendrick Lamar “GNX” First Week Sales Look More Promising Than Ever

Kendrick Lamar is going to continue his streak of commercial dominance in 2024 thanks to his new album GNX‘s massive success. Moreover, final projections from HITS Daily Double indicate that the new project will sell 325K album-equivalent units in its first week, signifying a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It’s a big achievement given the lack of promo, but then again, it’s K.Dot, so it was going to do well either way. However, it’s important to note that these still aren’t the official numbers, but given previous projections, it looks like the best-case scenario for this LP is what will happen… Maybe even more.

Perhaps it ends up debuting with a little over that number, and physical sales should carry it into a strong second week. Kendrick Lamar is too big of a rapper to not expect grand things from his album drops, but even he might express shock at how much success he found in the commercial space. For example, his good kid, m.A.A.d. city album from 12 years ago actually outsold VULTURES 1 by Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign this year.

Kendrick Lamar GNX First Week Sales Are Almost In

Elsewhere, other discussions around Kendrick Lamar’s GNX revolve more around the content, such as Ab-Soul’s recent reflection on “heart pt. 6.” “I’m very honored,” he said on Instagram Live concerning Kendrick’s shout-out.

Meanwhile, everyone is loving GNX no matter how you slice it, and big names like LeBron James have already sung its praises. Well, in LeBron’s case, “tv off” just hyped him up before a game, but still. It’s clear that Kendrick Lamar really resonated with listeners in one way or another, and we wonder just how much farther this new project will go. It’s been one heck of a cherry on top of 2024.

Kendrick Lamar “GNX” Sales Projections Continue To Skyrocket

The massive commercial success of Kendrick Lamar’s GNX should come as no surprise, even if its release was just that. After all, he’s one of the biggest rappers in the game and just came off of a championship year following his victorious battle with Drake. But even the most hardcore K.Dot fans thought that his first week sales projections for this new album would stay steady at just under the 300K album-equivalent units mark. However, according to new reports, the album’s sales projections now indicate numbers between 310K and 325K first week, which is very interesting news. It seems like more and more people are tuning in and revisiting the tracklist.

Also, we assume that physical sales for GNX also contribute to these new projections, and will likely maintain some solid momentum for the LP in the weeks to come. Also, Kendrick Lamar might land multiple cuts off the album on the Billboard Hot 100 amid a lot of streaming success and radio play, although it’s far too early to tell at this point. Maybe some fans are just reaching with the numbers, but either way, the project’s performed very well.

Kendrick Lamar’s Updated GNX Sales Projections

Of course, any conversation around Kendrick Lamar and sales right now has a whole lot of baggage and legal tension behind it. Drake filed a petition that basically announced plans to sue Universal Music Group and Spotify for allegedly colluding to artificially boost the sales of “Not Like Us,” which the Toronto rapper claims also makes their label (as he and Kendrick are both on UMG) and the streaming service liable for defamation. It’s a pretty anti-hip-hop move in the traditional sense and an anti-industry benchmark in another, but neither excuse fully explains the controversy behind it.

But that whole debacle falls outside of the scope of Kendrick Lamar’s GNX, a project that its collaborators like Peysoh are very excited to reflect on. Fans are loving it, it’s making a big splash, and it hasn’t even been out a week yet. It’s been an amazing year to be a Kendrick Lamar fan, and with his Super Bowl halftime show coming soon, it might be an amazing 2025, too.

Kendrick Lamar Causes Huge Debate Over New Album “GNX” Doing Big Numbers

Kendrick Lamar only seems to rise even higher as as a superstar over time, and his new album GNX‘s streaming numbers so far certainly reflect that. Moreover, the project reportedly garnered over 120 million streams after 31 hours of tracking since its near-midday (EST) drop on Friday (November 22). Considering the surprise nature of this release plus its 12 tracks, these are some great numbers to pull as an opening. But of course, when you’re one of the greatest, people expect that much more from you. So inevitable comparisons to other commercial performances, particularly Drake’s, ensued quite quickly. And we’re sad to say they are no less exhausting this time around on both sides.

Speaking of Drake, a lot of people are wondering how he feels about this new Kendrick Lamar album. From what he’s posted online and such these days, he doesn’t seem very bothered, which is great to see. The 6ix God has a PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album on the way and probably a whole lot of plans keeping him busy right now as he preps for another year. The sooner both he and K.Dot can move on from the beef, the better for their careers, which the latter is clearly benefitting from now.

Kendrick Lamar Streams Big On Spotify With GNX

But while a lot of people streamed GNX, plenty of people did not like Kendrick Lamar’s new album, including Compton rapper Snoopy Badazz. He thought the project was “trash” and also defended Drake, saying that he’s in no sort of danger in Los Angeles and is still superior. This prompted a lot of divided reactions from naysayers and yes men alike, which should come as no surprise. A big part of the negativity toward the pgLang lyricist, for whatever reason, is his connection to Compton and how he’s moved within the wider music industry.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that a lot of people are enjoying this latest effort to the fullest, and will keep bumping GNX for a while. Kendrick Lamar also has folks very excited for what could come next, especially considering there’s a Super Bowl halftime show on the horizon. We’ll see just how much this numbers debate evolves over the next few weeks.

Travis Scott’s “DAYS BEFORE RODEO” Sees Historic Drop-Off In Second Week On The Charts

Travis Scott had fans in a chokehold at the end of August thanks to the reissuing of DAYS BEFORE RODEO. Fans have wanted the 2014 mixtape on streaming for years and they finally got their wish on August 23, five days after its 10-year anniversary. Outside of just streaming the project, his followers also came through in the sales department in its first week. It would go on to have the biggest debut for any hip-hop record this year, moving 361,000 copies. Furthermore, there was some real belief that it would go onto reach the top spot on the charts and outperform one of pop’s biggest acts.

Sabrina Carpenter’s highly anticipated Short n’ Sweet would barely squeeze past the decade-old tape by 1,000 units, but unfairly in the eyes of his fans and the Cactus Jack label. In fact, both sources claim that there was a miscount; however, there was a complicated mix-up, which you can read about here. Regardless of the slightly disappointing final results, the rerelease was a major success in a lot of ways. However, the same cannot be said this week for Travis Scott’s DAYS BEFORE RODEO.

This Isn’t A Good Look For Travis Scott After The Sales Debacle

According to HipHopDX and chart data, DBR has endured the “biggest percent decline for an album remaining on the Billboard 200 this decade”. Sales are down 94.7% which is of course not good, but also plain surprising. Because of this, the project has plummeted to 30 on the Billboard Hot 200. It makes it even worse when you compare it to the performance of Sabrina’s album in week two. It stayed at number one this time through with 156,000 album equivalent units. Nicki Minaj has to be cackling right about now.

What are your thoughts on Travis Scott’s DAYS BEFORE RODEO suffering a historic drop-off in its second week? Is this a bad look after the sales dispute with Billboard, why or why not? Do you think that this had anything to do with this massive decrease in sales? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Lil Wayne’s Tha Fix Before Tha VI Sells 19K First Week

The number has come as somewhat of a shock to some fans, who would have expected the icon to sell far more. With that being said, plenty of others note that he didn’t do much in terms of promotion for the project. Instead, many think he’s been focusing his attention on hype surrounding Tha Carter VI. Despite countless fans coming to Wayne’s defense, the project has managed to spark some concern surrounding what’s to come on the next installment of Tha Carter series.

One person who seems to be into the Louisiana-born performer’s new releases is Eminem. The hitmaker took to social media to compliment a few of Lil Wayne’s lyrics from his verse on YG and Tyga’s track “Brand New” from Hit Me When U Leave The Klub: The Playlist. “‘Got a bunch of zeros like a bag of new funyuns!!’ F*CK why didn’t I think of that????” Eminem Tweeted last week. As expected, this prompted countless responses from fans, dropping their own favorite Lil Wayne lyrics in his replies. What do you think Lil Wayne’s new album? Are you surprised by its first week sales? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Lil Wayne.

Eminem Makes History With His Latest Sales Milestone

When you are deciding who to crown as the best rapper of all time, there are a lot of choices. It also depends on what you value the most. Do you place more weight on rapping ability, their discography, how many copies they have sold, etc.. Names that immediately come to mind for most hip-hop heads are Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, and Biggie. Eminem is someone else some consider to be the G.O.A.T., but now there might be more people who jump on that bandwagon.

HipHopDX has just confirmed that “The Real Slim Shady” eclipsed the top 10 list for the best-selling artists of all time. This a major achievement for Eminem that can add to his long list of accomplishments. The soon-to-be 51-year-old Detroit native can attribute this milestone to all of the hard work he has put in throughout his over two-decade-long career. He moves ahead of the rock band, Led Zepplin, hitting the 207,262,000 total sales mark. This includes everything from albums, singles, and and streaming.

Not surprisingly, The Beatles are wiping out the competition with over 423 million sales. Michael Jackson is the closest with 338 million sales. What is even crazier is that no other rapper besides Em is in the top 40. Drake is really close though in the 41st spot with a little over 120 million. Congratulations to Eminem for this truly astounding achievement.

NBA YoungBoy Blasts DJ Akademiks For Thinking He Cares About Numbers

NBA YoungBoy just lit a fire online (albeit an unsurprising one), and doused some gasoline on it on Instagram Live. Moreover, the rapper took to the social media platform following his bold Twitter disses towards Lil Durk, DJ Akademiks, and India Royale. However, it seems like Ak was the main target of YB’s ire this time around, as he previously focused on Durk and their upcoming sales battle this week. Furthermore, the Baton Rouge MC fired off at the media personality for assuming that he’s throwing these jabs out to get more numbers behind his upcoming mixtape. All in all, it feels like he’d be happy with ten album sales if it meant speaking his mind.

“This p***y a** n***a Akademiks,” YoungBoy began his rant, which he embarked on while playing his music. “Actin’ like I give a f**k about numbers. B***h, I just dropped two weeks ago. This p***y n***a finna drop. B***h, I ain’t worried about no numbers, n***a. B***h a** n***a, big bank take lil’ bank. Your stupid drink face a**. That’s all you like to do, b***h, is get drunk and talk s**t. That one gon’ get you f***ed up.” He seemingly didn’t address Durk directly, who already responded to him, it seems.

NBA YoungBoy Fires Off On DJ Akademiks On Instagram Live

Meanwhile, Akademiks had this to say concerning YoungBoy’s Twitter tirades. “Lol I never thought I see the day my homie diss me cuz his sales low,” he posted on Twitter. “This rap game is the devil lol. Youngboy I forgive u man. We can get them sales up otherwise… lol. But ok. Capitol Records I blame u for this… y’all pressuring YB to get some sales he doing anything. Get my boy off house arrest tho. YB the last rapper I thought would ever do some s**t for sales. But damn. Go buy his album it drops Friday… He’s tryna outsell Lil Durk. I still love him thc. Buy his project.”

Of course, the main event at this showdown is between the Don’t Try This At Home MC and Lil Durk, who will drop his album Almost Healed the same day as YB’s mixtape Richest Opp. Though fans hoped they had put their differences aside, it seems like it’s just business as usual for the two. Hopefully rap fans still get two great projects as a result, and this spat doesn’t get any uglier. On that note, if you want the latest updates and news on NBA YoungBoy, stick around on HNHH.
