Heat Fan Ejected After Calling Russell Westbrook “Boy”

A Miami Heat fan was ejected from the team’s recent game against the Clippers after appearing to call Russell Westbrook “boy”. While footage of the full interaction has not appeared online, a clip film immediately before the fan was asked to leave has. It shows the man shouting “I paid for these seats, boy” at Westbrook. However, due to the abridged nature of the publicly posted clips, it is currently unclear what started the argument between the fan and Westbrook.

“Boy”, especially when used by a white individual towards a Black man, is considered to be a racial slur. It harkens back to the days of the Jim Crow South and is considered both demeaningly and highly offensive. The NBA, Heat, and Clippers are all yet to address the incident publicly. This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates as and when they emerge.

How Is Russell Westbrook Playing This Season?

Westbrook has appeared in 50 games this season, but has started just 10 of them. Despite this, he is averaging 22.8 minutes a game along with a 11.3/5.5/4.7 stat line. This is Westbrook’s first full season with the Clippers. He joined them in a deadline trade last year which moved him across LA from the Lakers. The Clippers are currently fourth in the West with a 34-16 record.

However, their current success is a major turnaround from the team that started 3-7 and was 10-10 after 20 games. At one point early in the season, Westbrook asked the Clippers coaching staff to transition him to a bench role amid the team’s six-game losing streak. According to sources who spoke with Bleacher Report, Westbrook requested the move in an attempt to allow the first team unit to develop more cohesion. It allowed Terance Mann to play a more impactful cleanup role alongside James Harden, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard. As a result, Westbrook brought a bigger veteran leadership role to the second unit. This helped open the floor up more while Harden and Leonard weren’t there.

Russell Westbrook is someone who has always been adamant about defending his own honor. Unfortunately, over the years, there have been many people who have tried to disrupt his peace. However, he tends to get into it with the fans when he feels like he has to. Whether it be people being racist or derogatory towards his family, Westbrook is known for clapping back at the people who absolutely deserve it.

Well, it seems like that situation transpired on Monday night. The Clippers were taking on the Denver Nuggets in Los Angeles, and the Clips lost. It was a bad loss for them considering the Nuggets were missing their three biggest stars. That said, near the end of the game, Westbrook got into it with some fans courtside. Of course, this was an interesting interaction when you consider how the fans were Clippers fans, supposedly. He had to be held back, and after the game, he revealed how he wanted to defend his family’s honor.

Russell Westbrook Reacts

“Fans think they can say whatever they want,” Russ said. “I’m not going to say [what they said] now because it’s not appropriate, but I’m just protecting myself. Just unfortunate fans think they can get away with saying anything and, personally, I won’t allow it. Now having kids and understanding how important it is, not just myself but my last name. Understanding what Westbrook means, understanding how important that is to my dad, my grandfather, my family. It’s very important. It’s something I stand on, and the respect is a big thing that I value.”

Overall, Russ has had enough and it is easy to see why this is the case. Hopefully, fans begin to respect him more, going forward. Otherwise, we will continue to see stuff like this. Russell Westbrook Benches Himself As Clippers Keep Losing

Russell Westbrook has asked the Clippers coaching staff to transition him to a bench role amid the team’s current losing streak. The Clippers have lost their last six games, including James Harden’s first five with the team. Despite LA being Harden’s only acceptable trade destination, the team has struggled to integrate him effectively. While Harden is an elite scoring and passing threat, he does not surpass the 1-2 tandem of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Furthermore, Harden’s stagnant off-ball play as become all the more obvious since joining the Clips.

According to sources who spoke with Bleacher Report, Westbrook requested the move in an attempt to allow the first team unit to develop more cohesion. It will allow the recently recovered Terance Mann to play a more impactful cleanup role alongside Harden, George, and Leonard. As a result, Westbrook can bring a bigger veteran leadership role to the second unit and help open the floor up more while Harden and Leonard aren’t there.

Paul George Gets $35K Fine

However, problems continue to compound for the Clippers. Paul George was recently handed a $35,000 fine for criticizing the officiating team after a recent loss to the Nuggets. “I thought we played great. It’s tough, the adversity of playing against the extra three. I thought they were awful but, the defending champs, we’ve got to play better. So many times I got hit on layups, 3-pointers. It was constant. Jump shots, getting hit, smacked on the forearm. It was a poor job,” George said after the loss.

Furthermore, the league noted that the size of Paul’s fine was due to his history of publicly criticizing the league’s officials. Meanwhile, the 3-7 Clippers have a tough slate to end the month. Their remaining November games include the in-form Rockets as well as the Pelicans, Mavs, Nuggets, and Kings. Furthermore, they will also have to face the Spurs and Warriors. The Clippers’ last win was a 118-102 victory against the Orlando Magic on Halloween. They were 3-1 at that time.

Overall, much of this has to do with his horrific play as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. The team was terrible with Russ on the roster, and they struggled for much of the season. However, they eventually turned things around as soon as he was traded and made it to the Western Conference Finals.

The point guard ended up finishing the season out with the Los Angeles Clippers. Overall, he was actually quite good in this role. NBA star Russell Westbrook jumped on social media with his wife, with Westbrook going through a bracket of the best rappers of all time. The Cali native made it a point to say that Nipsey Hussle was the best on the list, above Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ice Cube, Redman, Lil Wayne and the Notorious B.I.G.

Westbrook also put Ice Cube above Redman in the brackets and Dr. Dre ranked higher than Biggie. The bracket came down to Nipsey and Hov, to which of course the Cali native chose Nip.

Russell Westbrook picked Nipsey Hussle as the greatest rapper of all time from a list of options that include JAY-Z, Eminem, and more. The artists also included Ludacris, Ice Cube, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killa, Mos Def, Missy Elliott, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Dr. Dre, The Notorious B.I.G., Lil Wayne, and 50 Cent.

It’s not the first time that the Los Angeles native has praised Nipsey Hussle. After Hussle was shot and killed in 2019, Westbrook posted the NBA’s second-ever 20-20-20 stat line and dedicated the performance to the late rapper. “Grateful to play the game, but that wasn’t for me, man. That was for my bro, man. That was for Nipsey,” Westbrook told TNT post-game. “Rest in peace to Nipsey, man. I’m just thankful to go out there and compete at a high level, man. Thankful to have these teammates. Thankful and humbled to go out there and play the game I love.”

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed by Eric Holder outside of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019. Hussle was just 33 years old at the time. Holder received a sentence of 60 years in prison for the first-degree murder.

Paul George Reveals His Opinion On Westbrook Returning To LA

Paul George was unavailable for the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2023 NBA Playoffs. The Clippers star suffered an injury in late March that sealed his post-season fate. However, George wasn’t the only Clippers star to miss playoff action. A sprained knee sidelined Kawhi Leonard. However, the injuries were insurmountable, as the team was sent home in the opening round by the Phoenix Suns. In a what could have been scenario for a team that has a lot of talent when at full health.

However, one Clippers star gave everything he had in the series. Russell Westbrook was a late addition to the Los Angeles roster. But quickly earned the trust of his teammates in a trying time. While Westbrook’s future with the franchise is uncertain. Although George is strong in his belief on what the team should do with Westbrook. On a recent episode of George’s podcast sponsored by Wave Sports + Entertainment, the former all-star thinks Westbrook has found a home.

Paul George Wants To See Westbrook Return

Here’s an excerpt of what Geroge had to say about the situation. “He proved that he is a leader. He proved that he’s got a lot left in the tank and for a team like us, the more guys that can be versatile, the better for us. To have a playmaker, have a leader, have a score, just a floor general, a rebounder, he just covers so many holes and wears so many hats. He’s everywhere…He’s just so valuable. We saw what it looks like [and] we know it works. We know it can be successful. We gotta get him back. I want him back.”

Westbrook’s effort and talent have never been questioned. As the former Oklahoma City star has the accolades and hardware to prove it. However, since leaving OKC, Westbrook has yet to find a place to fit in. His tenures with the Rockets and Lakers were forgettable moments. But something about the Clippers could be different. George would love to see his friend return next season. Do you believe the Clippers will side with Paul George and bring Westbrook back? Let us know what you think in the comment section. Russell Westbrook Comments On Kawhi Leonard Injury

Russell Westbrook has fit in quite well in his short time with the Los Angeles Clippers. The former league MVP has been adjusting to a different role during the 2023 playoffs. However, now it seems Westbrook may have to become the first option for the Clippers. Before Game 3 on Thursday, it was announced that Kawhi Leonard would miss the game due to a knee sprain. The Clippers are already without Paul George, so losing Leonard is massive.

On Friday, Westbrook was asked about Leonard’s recent injury. Here’s what Westbrook had to say. “I just feel sorry for him. Probably was playing the best basketball in a while and probably the best in the world. Just sucks for him, mentally… If he’s not back, we gotta rally around each other.” The injury is unfortunate for Leonard. You never want to see a team lose such a vital piece of their success at such a crucial time. However, Westbrook understands the team needs to focus on the task at hand. Beating the Phoenix Suns.

Russell Westbrook Focused On Phoenix

On Friday, Stephen A. Smith took a massive shot at Leonard’s recent availability. Smith claimed that Leonard could be the worst superstar in the NBA. A strange title to give anyone. However, Smith is concerned with the injuries piling up for Leonard. But that doesn’t mean the injured star deserves the label of ‘worst superstar.’ However, the conversation does turn to many wondering if Leonard has become a liability for the Clippers. A team that sees their playoff run slowly closing before their eyes.

Westbrook has the experience of leading a team in the playoffs. The former league MVP became the focal point of the Oklahoma City Thunder once Kevin Durant left town. However, the question still remains if Westbrook can be that player once again. The Clippers trail the series against the Suns 2-1. As Westbrook said, the team will need to band together if Leonard misses Game 4. Can Russell Westbrook lead the Clippers to playoff success? Let us know your thoughts on the Clippers chances in the comment section below. For the latest NBA news, keep it right here with HNHH.
