J Cole Thanks Fans For Supporting His Re-Released Mixtapes On Streaming

J Cole may have had a pretty turbulent 2024 given the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, but he’s closing it out on the highest of notes. Moreover, he launched a new audio series – Inevitable – touching on his career, he announced a 2014 Forest Hills Drive tenth anniversary show in Madison Square Garden in New York City (plus a special physical edition with previously unreleased bonus tracks), and he also re-released his old mixtapes The Come Up, The Warm Up, and Friday Night Lights on digital streaming platforms for the first time ever. The North Carolina MC expressed gratitude for his loyal and supportive fanbase in late November.

“This is a very special moment for me,” J. Cole tweeted. “Been waiting patiently for this day, like a lot of yall have. I wanna say Thank you to everybody out there that kept these projects alive, even during all the years they were not on streaming services, especially this project right here. ‘Friday Nights Lights’ finally available now on all platforms. […] To have a full idea of what this means for me personally, you would have to know the whooole journey. This Inevitable series we doing, is that. […] Love to everybody tuning in, it’s really something special. The Come Up, The Warm up, and Friday Night Lights all up finally. Thank you.”

J Cole Thanks His Fans

Elsewhere, J. Cole’s manager Ibrahim Hamad confirmed the bittersweet news that next year’s Dreamville Fest in North Carolina will be the last-ever iteration of the festival. It’s a very reflective moment for the whole collective, but a lot of it is probably falling on Cole’s shoulders as its flagship artist. The battle certainly adds to that context, but it’s nice that he can indulge in this nostalgia alongside his die-hards.

Of course, there’s still plenty of new music on the way, as Daylyt might have another track coming after he and J. Cole were spotted in the studio. So Dreamville fans don’t have to enter a mourning period just yet, especially during this celebratory time with his older material. It was a tough year at times, but 2024 proved to be a pretty awesome stretch for Cole fans all things considered.

J Cole Officially Releases The Song That Got Him Signed To Jay-Z, “Lights Please”

J Cole has been fulfilling fans’ aspirations over the last few days since dropping his audio series, Inevitable. People were hoping that the North Carolina luminary would reissue some of his earliest works of his career once they saw the titles of some of the episodes. “The Come Up” went on to spawn his first mixtape that same day. Then, on Friday, he would drop off want many view to be his first true classic project, The Warm Up (2009). It’s also one of his most important releases of his journey to superstardom thanks to some key tracks.

“Lights Please,” also one of his earliest hits, was essentially the record that convinced the almighty JAY-Z to sign J Cole to Roc Nation. We can see why this was the one to win him over, as the wordplay and storytelling are top notch. The frustrating accounts of the Dreamville boss being with a woman who only wants her desires met while he tries to develop the relationship by sharing his dreams and stresses is heartbreaking. Because of this, it’s one of Cole’s best “love” records too, if you even want to call it that. There’s no wonder why he put this on The Sideline Story just two years later.

Quotable Lyrics:

I told her all about how we been livin’ a lie
And that they love to see us all go to prison or die
Like, “Baby, look at how they show us on the TV screen”
But all she ever want me to do is unzip her jeans
Then all I really want is for her to get on top
Before you know it, she workin’, jerkin’ it nonstop

J Cole Shows That He’s Been Ready To Take Over The Rap Throne On “Simba”

While we are all still waiting on The Fall Off to arrive, J Cole still did a pretty cool thing last night. The legendary North Carolina rapper and producer brought his debut mixtape, The Come Up Mixtape Vol. 1 to streaming. The May 2007 release is one of three coveted projects prior to his debut studio album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. This tape was brought out thanks to MC delivering his new audio series Inevitable. He announced that over the weekend, it’s going to be 10 episodes, and will reveal some cool BTS of Cole’s career leading up to 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

As it stands, fans are speculating that we could be getting all three of these foundational mixtapes. That’s especially because The Come Up was dropped in tandem with the first episode which was also titled after the project. If that’s true, then we will also have The Warm Up on November 22 and Friday Night Lights on November 27. It’s an exciting thought, but for now, we are revisiting one of J Cole’s earliest hits, “Simba.” Here, you are getting him at his hungriest as he likens himself to Simba from The Lion King, as the heir to rap throne, which he believes belonged to his soon-to-be mentor, JAY-Z. Overall, it’s a motivational anthem. Additionally, it’s an early look into how his writing and flows would evolve.

You meet the devil, sign a permanent lease, word on the streets

Tory Lanez Shares His Most Recent Lost Tape Within Latest Entries To The “Free Tory Playlist”

The “Free Tory Playlist” (Spotify exclusive) has some new tracks in the mix. Tory Lanez is back with a recording from 2019 called “Blessed,” and one from 2022 titled “B.B.O.” (Bad B****es Only). The latter is now the most recent Lost Tape yet, unless you count his one and only Twitch Tape (so far) “Rodeo Drive” as such. According to its Genius annotation, it was first previewed back in May of 2022. “B.B.O.” doesn’t not have much information on it, so we are unsure as to when Lanez concocted it. Speaking of which, the same can be said about “Blessed.”

Both of these Lost Tapes seem to be two of the more unsung loosies from this series. However, that isn’t a bad thing really. The reason being is because Tory Lanez might have his catchiest tunes so far with these two. Each song is ready for a club setting with their tones being confident and lively. Additionally, the melodies bring the vibes up tenfold, adding to that accessibility factor. “Blessed” finds Tory thankful for his cushy lifestyle and being able to afford things he was not able to while coming up. “B.B.O.” is geared for the club-going ladies who are prepping for a night out downtown. You can hear the Lost Tapes for yourself with the links below.

Imma do anything to protect my check, Imma do anything just respect my flex, yes

Tory Lanez’s “The Godfather” Remains One Of His Best Cuts 10 Years Later

This past weekend, Tory Lanez joined Travis Scott in rereleasing a 10-year-old mixtape. For the Canadian it came in the form of dropping Lost Cause onto DSPs. Fans of his know that this project is very important to his catalog, and it’s also one of his earliest. It’s a pretty foundational piece to the singer, rapper, and producer’s identity, and it pretty much helped springboard him to stardom. Besides that, the tape just means a lot to Tory overall. He was struggling financially at that the time and Trina was there to help in so many ways, including with this project. We are happy its officially here and it’s been fun to revisit it.

One of the tracks that we still enjoy thoroughly to this day from Tory Lanez on it is “The Godfather.” It’s a terrific closer and we feel it more than holds a candle to the rest of hits. In addition to it being a great song about his come up, this track also has a cool connection to HNHH. If you aren’t familiar, the site had a huge hand in helping Tory release his “Fargo Fridays” series. “The Godfather” was a track that was a part of that collaboration with us, so it also some sentimental value to us. But bias aside, it’s just a powerful moment in his catalog and an important one at that.

But I was just a little n****, just a little n****

Told them n****s they done turn me to the old me

Tory Lanez Reissues One Of His Foundational Projects In “Lost Cause”

The theme for Tory Lanez in 2024 has been to revisit the good ole’ days. What we mean is that the Canadian rapper, singer, and producer has treated longtime fans to some of his older works that never got official releases. It started in early July with him dropping off “Lost Tapes” from various points in his over 10-year career. Just a few weeks later, Tory decided to give all of these songs a home on his “Free Tory Playlist”, which he announced via a prison phone call. In addition to that, “The Color Violet” MC would reveal that he was going to include some new songs from behind bars via the “Prison Tapes”. Sadly, they are currently discontinued until further notice. But this setback hasn’t deterred Tory Lanez because he’s still giving the people what they want with material like Lost Cause.

OG supporters will know what this is. But for those that don’t, this a 2014 mixtape that also never got to see the light of day on DSPs. It’s one of his earliest projects and in listening to it, you can certainly see how this helped lay the groundwork for what we know Tory’s sound to be today. That being the mixture of rap and R&B with some hints of alternative R&B. Lanez announced its rerelease in pretty emotional fashion on IG earlier this week by thanking Trina for helping make his music dreams reality. Check out the 10-year-old release (as of October 1), now.

Tory Lanez Is Stuck On Past Flings On “Time Away” & “Topless In Miami”

Tory Lanez fans definitely shed a few tears about a week and a half ago when he announced the temporary end to the “Prison Tapes”. The Canadian rapper/singer hybrid had his cell raided and during the search, any and all recording equipment was swiftly taken. Fans were quick to the point the finger at Roc Nation (Megan Thee Stallion’s management) for being behind this. Just a day later, Tory Lanez took to Instagram with a lengthy letter to his supporters to confirm the initial reports. “My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created ‘The Prison Tapes’. I was shut down because the ‘HIGHER UPS’ figured out what I was really doing with ‘The Prison Tapes’ and how many inmates were being helped in a life changing way because of them”.

Despite this massive setback and the unknown future surrounding these charitable tracks, he’s still providing “new” music. “The Lost Tapes” are still going strong, as evidenced by last week and now this weekend too. For this Thursday and Friday, Tory Lanez is back with two love cuts, “Time Away” and “Topless in Miami”. The former is a 2019 leftover, and the latter comes from one of his peak years in 2016. Both songs tell supposedly real past relationships and the good times that he had with each one. Overall, they don’t have a lot of lyrics in the literal sense, but they still bring solid vibes despite the short run times. Give them a spin below.

Travis Scott, Big Sean, & The 1975 Left Us In Awe With “Don’t Play”

Travis Scott is finally doing something that his die-hard fans have been asking him to do for years. On August 23 at midnight, the Houston megastar is going to be bringing his second mixtape, Days Before Rodeo, to streaming services. The fan-favorite 2014 release has strictly been on Soundcloud or downloaded onto people’s phones illegally for just over a decade. Those days are now over and also for the first time, physical music buyers can relive the magic on vinyl or CD. What’s also so amazing about this is that he will also be dropping some extra tracks from around that time that never got to see the light of day. With all of this excitement, we are going back to DBR to relisten to some of its biggest bangers. Undoubtedly, one of those is “Don’t Play”, the collab between Travis Scott, The 1975, and Big Sean.

The lead single to this 12-track mixtape, “Don’t Play” features one of La Flame’s hungriest rapping performances in his entire discography. While this collection of songs was more so a building block for his debut album Rodeo a year later, there were some fairly consistent themes on DBR. With Scott learning so much from the likes of Kanye West and more, he felt that he was on the cusp of stardom. That’s why there so many songs on here about believing in yourself and having that ambitious mindset. “Don’t Play” is certainly one of those cases, especially with bars like these. “Up at 5 A.M., still workin’, but I treat it like it’s one / I’m never actin’ like I got it / B****, I’m actin’ like I won it on these n****s“. Relive “Don’t Play” with the music video link down below.

Travis Scott fans just realized that their dreams came true, as a recent promise he made at Fanatics Fest in New York City over the weekend will actually manifest. Moreover, if you didn’t hear already, his fan-favorite 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo will hit streaming services for the first time very, very soon for its tenth anniversary (today, Sunday, August 18). The promo clip shows old footage from the making of DBR and its era, showing the Nike collaborator working with the likes of Metro Boomin, Young Thug, and more. In addition, it shows that Travis shows have been incredibly rowdy for over a decade straight, in case anyone had any doubts about that.

Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo Is Right Around The Corner On DSPs

Elsewhere, Travis Scott was also announced as Rey Mysterio’s new tag team partner in the WWE. “Are you guys ready for me to introduce my latest tag team partner?” the wrestler asked the Fanatics Fest crowd. “Are you ready? Alright. This man has shaped the landscape for hip-hop. He is an icon. He is also on ‘SICKO MODE.’ He is a rapper, producer, songwriter, and Grammy-nominated. Let’s give it up for the highest in the room, my newest tag team partner, Travis Scott!”

With all this in mind, Cactus Jack fans must feel ecstatic right now. If you want to catch Travis Scott live, he’s got some South American dates coming up if you’re in the area or can travel. Also, if you see Future and Metro Boomin on tour, there’s a good chance that the Houston superstar will show up as a special guest. Nevertheless, join us in our nostalgic indulgences and revisit Days Before Rodeo when it drops in a few days.

James Fauntleroy & No ID (The 80s) Revive “The Pursuit” 13 Years Later

James Fauntleroy and legendary producer No ID are giving fans what they want this summer. They are combining their talents on an EP, but not in the way that you think. This is not a brand-new release by any means. In fact, this tape that is out now is about 13 years old. It is called The Pursuit, and it is a production of the duo’s group known as The 80s or The Cocaine 80s. If you have not heard of this collective before, let us give you a little history lesson for some background.

James and No ID are just two of the artists responsible for bringing this idea to fruition back in the early 2010s. Chicago rap genius Common, as well as Los Angeles-bred singer Jhené Aiko, joined along for the ride. This quartet is known for the smooth and stunning R&B cuts with an alternative flare. What you are seeing in front of you is the first of four EPs, as The Pursuit began the string of EPs from 2011 to 2013. The last of them was The Flower Of Life and since then, we have not received any new music from this talented act. Hopefully, with The 80s bringing The Pursuit to streaming this weekend, maybe they will revive the other subsequent EPs. You can check out the long-awaited fan-favorite tape with the links below and relive the magic that was created all those years ago.
