Tinashe Sets The Vibe Right On Our Latest “R&B Season” Playlist Update

Quality over quantity is the name of the game this week, and our R&B Season playlist update is here to reflect that. Moreover, there’s a succinct but powerful set of tracks that we wanted to highlight this week from some of the best artists in the field right now. Leading the pack is the incomparable Tinashe, who recently made her return to the release realm with her new album, BB/ANG3L. With a few singles preceding this drop, the Kentucky native built up a lot of hype for her first album since 2021’s 333. While there are a lot of highlights to mention, “None Of My Business” is too sultrily sweet to ignore.

With a laidback but groovy percussive pattern, Tinashe proves why she’s one of the most engaging voices in R&B today. There are many melodic and harmonious riffs, runs, and refrains to catch on this track, from the ethereal chorus to the more impassioned verses. Watery synth pads and background vocals certainly add to the song’s dreamy atmosphere. Most importantly, though, they by no means dilute the singer’s spotlit performance here, which is at the core of a lot of fantastic music from this genre.

On that note, it’s no surprise that BJ The Chicago Kid and Coco Jones similarly take center stage on the cut “Spend The Night.” This song, however, sounds more like a classic and upbeat duet, with back-and-forth verses and lines plus an infectious bassline and bright guitar strums. Even if it’s more energetic and busy than the previously mentioned track, there’s still a dynamic performance from both artists at the core of this R&B offering. If you’re looking to feel some soul while dancing in the club, give this one a spin.

Finally, there’s “Stranger” by RealestK, the most low-key and soothing song to offer this week. The high-pitched croons, ghostly keys, and minimal structure will calm you down the further you sink into its production and performance. Still, we’re sure we missed something this week; what was your favorite R&B release of the week? Let us know in the comments, check out the playlist above, and stay up to date on HNHH for the latest great music in rap, soul, and beyond.

Timbaland Reunites With Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake On Our “R&B Season” Playlist

Seeing as it’s a long weekend, there’s really no reason why you can’t take at least a few minutes out of your Sunday to stream the latest songs on our R&B Season playlist. To kick things off we have the title track from Jorja Smith’s highly anticipated falling or flying LP, which will mark her first full-length release in five years. The UK-born songbird has been sharing singles from the project with us for months now, beginning with “Try Me” and “Little Things” before returning mid-summer with “GO GO GO.”

This week’s round-up also includes the latest from SAFE, called “Rent Free” which hit DSPs on Friday (September 1) along with a sped-up and slowed-down version for your listening pleasure. As far as collaborations go, we saw some huge artists reconnect for the first time in years on the feel-good “Keep Going Up.” Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake have long been teasing another joint effort after finding massive success in past decades together. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last we hear from the iconic musical trio this year.

Another unexpected (but incredible) duo we’re spotlighting today on R&B Season is Teezo Touchdown and Janelle Monae. The renowned rapper and vocalist joined forces for “You Thought,” which has already become a favourite for us thanks to their undeniably unique creative efforts. Following that is our final weekend pick. It comes from Queen Naija, who recruited NBA YoungBoy to join her on “No Fake Love.”

The memorable single begins with Naija’s sweet vocals, and eventually transitions into the Louisana superstar reflecting on some of his own past mistakes in relationships throughout his verse. Victoria Monet & Fridayy’s New Releases Are An “R&B Season” Mood

We’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, but what makes the transition into fall and winter so much easier each year is knowing that our R&B Season playlist will carry us through. Last weekend we heard from Usher, Ciara, Lil Baby, and many more on our weekly update. Today (August 27), it’s a collaboration from Brent Faiyaz and Coco Jones, “Moment Of Your Life” taking the top spot as music lovers praise the two talented vocalists for their work on the song.

In terms of new albums, Victoria Monet gave us arguably one of the biggest releases of the week with JAGUAR II. She connected with acts like Lucky Daye and Buju Banton across the 11-song tracklist, but for R&B Season, we’ve selected her solo effort, “Alright” for your streaming consideration. Following that comes “ZOOMIES” from Jordan Ward’s moreward(FORWARD) project, as well as “Stand By Me” from Fridayy’s debut album.

The “GOD DID” collaborator caught our attention with “Stand By Me,” which he dropped an accompanying music video for earlier this weekend. Elsewhere on his new LP we hear from Adekunle Gold on “Done For Me” and Chris Brown on “Don’t Give It Away.” Drake may not have delivered his For All The Dogs album as we speculated he would, but still, his new OVO artist Naomi Sharon is holding things down for the label with her “Definition of Love” track.

Our final pick of the week comes from another rising female vocalist, Chxrry22, who’s also backed by one of the biggest names out of Canada, The Weeknd. She shared “More” with us this New Music Friday, and we can’t wait to hear what she has to offer us in the future. Usher Reminds Us He’s The Internet’s “Boyfriend” On Our “R&B Season” Update

Our R&B Season playlist highlights no shortage of male vocalists who are known specifically for making the ladies swoon. Since he began his Las Vegas Residency, however, Usher is notably among the best at taking on his role as a heartthrob. Over the past few months, we’ve seen him serenading the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kimora Lee Simmons, Saweetie, and Keke Palmer. It was the latter’s trip to Sin City that finally landed the Southern singer the label of “domestic terrorist” as his flirtatious antics caused a rift between the True Jackson VP actress and her baby daddy, Darius Jackson. At this time, the status of Palmer’s relationship remains unknown. However, she did team up with Usher earlier this week for his “Boyfriend” music video, causing many to speculate that she’s single again.

Elsewhere on today’s update comes a collab from Ciara’s CiCi EP – “Forever” with Lil Baby. The short and sweet project came along with big news from the Atlanta-based entertainer – she and Russell Wilson are expecting their third child together. Snoh Aalegra continued her hot streak of singles with “Wait A Little Longer,” and 333 hitmaker Tinashe continues to impress us with her work as well. The latter shared “Needs,” following last month’s “Talk To Me Nice.”

Lil Wayne doesn’t often appear on R&B Season, but we would be remiss not to put you on to his latest joint effort. The Young Money boss joined forces with Jon Batiste recently on “Uneasy,” a soulful song that’s got social media talking. To close out today’s female-forward round-up we suggest you stream Jamila Woods’ beautiful “Boomerang” when you have a moment during your Self Care Sunday activities.

Ciara & Chris Brown Show “How We Roll” On Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

Now that August is officially upon us, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the final weeks of summer are slipping away. It’s always hard to see the long days slip away into long, dark nights, but with the cool weather typically comes an increase in the number of songs on our weekly R&B Season updates. On Friday (August 4), yet another collection of new arrivals hit DSPs, and we’ve rounded up our favourites for today’s playlist. At the top of the list is the latest from Usher, “Good Good,” for which he connected with both Summer Walker and 21 Sav.

Following that comes another noteworthy collaboration from Ciara and Chris Brown. The longtime friends have connected plenty of times over the years, and the former announced that she’s got a new EP on the way later this month that could potentially hear from other R&B friends. Chloe Bailey has been holding it down on the charts for her and Halle this year as the younger of the two sisters focused on The Little Mermaid, but this weekend she shared her debut solo single, “Angel,” which finds the 23-year-old bringing listeners to tears with her beautiful voice.

From Snoh Aalegra we have “Sweet Tea,” and 6LACK joined forces with Jordan Ward for “MUSTARD.” Both of those titles would surely make welcome additions to anyone’s summertime playlist, but the track we’ve really had on repeat over the past few days comes from Jorja Smith. It’s called “GO GO GO,” and as per usual, it features beautiful vocals from the UK-based songstress.

Further down, you’ll find older additions from Burna Boy, James Blake, Beyonce, Travis Scott, Leon Thomas, Victoria Monet, and many more of the genre’s best artists. Check out this weekend’s R&B Season playlist exclusively on Spotify above. There were a lot of impressive new arrivals, but which one was your favourite? New Music From Tinashe & Roy Woods Appears On Our “R&B Season” Update: Stream

Before we say goodbye to yet another weekend, we’ve got a handful of hot new tracks to share with you on our R&B Season playlist. Last Sunday it was Justin Timberlake’s sensual return on Coco Jones’ “ICU (Remix)” that pulled at our heartstrings, but today (July 23), it’s Mario’s turn to take the lead. The renowned vocalist connected with Lil Wayne and Tyga for his latest, “Main One,” which landed alongside an accompanying visual on New Music Friday. After that comes another noteworthy collaboration from some of R&B’s finest – Ty Dolla Sign and Chris Brown – called “Motion (Remix).”

This week’s update is far more male-dominated than we’ve seen in the past, but music lovers definitely aren’t complaining. Holding it down for the women is Tinashe, who’s making her mark on “Talk To Me Nice,” as well as the ever-ethereal Snoh Aalegra. The latter’s new single is called “Be My Summer,” and it’s the perfect seasonal love song to send to anyone who’s weighing on your mind romantically at this time.

Our recommendations don’t stop there. Canada’s Roy Woods continues to impress us with his string of singles that have landed so far in 2023. Recent efforts include “Young Boy Problems” and “Don’t Mind Me,” but as July comes to a close he’s back with “Test What I Know.” If you’re looking for something sure to set the mood for a night of dancing, Burna Boy and Byron Messia’s “Talibans II” will surely do the trick. Elsewhere, our final pick of the week comes from “GOD DID” collaborator Fridayy, who proudly flexes his vocal chops on “When It Comes To You.”

If any of those sound like your jam, you can stream the entirety of this weekend’s R&B Season update exclusively on Spotify. Are there any recent arrivals that you think we missed? The Weeknd & Lil Baby Worship “False Idols” On Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

On Saturday (July 1), we proudly brought you all the best hip-hop has to offer on our weekly Fire Emoji update. Most of the new arrivals unsurprisingly came from Lil Uzi Vert’s long-awaited Pink Tape, including “Aye” with Travis Scott and “Endless Fashion” featuring Nicki Minaj. Of course, other artists got some love too. Today, it’s time for our R&B Season playlist to shine. While we have fewer titles to talk about, they’re still exciting and worth a listen if you’re hoping to freshen up your playlist this summer.

The first pick of the weekend comes from The Idol soundtrack, which has been delivering consistent bangers despite the show’s disappointing content. For episode five, Abel Tesfaye joined forces with Lil Baby for “False Idols.” The genre-bending track also includes haunting vocals from Suzanna Son and was accompanied by a solo effort from The Weeknd called “Like A God.” After weeks of controversy and online discourse, it was announced recently that the NSFW HBO series will be ending one episode early. At this time, it’s unclear if the Canadian vocalist plans to share the show’s final songs.

Our second (and final) R&B Season-worthy track of the week comes from highly favoured but incredibly lowkey British singer Sampha. “Spirit 2.0” marks the frequent Drake collaborator’s first song since 2022’s “Backwards” with Lil Silva. Prior to that, we heard him back in 2020 on “Walking Flames” alongside Actress and as a feature on Headie One and Fred again…’s “SOLDIERS.” Last week, our final June round-up was full of heat from Chris Brown, Muni Long, Usher, and Keyshia Cole, the latter of whom shared “Forever Is A Thing” to accompany her emotional new biopic.

Chris Brown’s Got The “Summer Too Hot” On Today’s “R&B Season” Update

Hip-hop heads were left seriously satisfied with this New Music Friday’s roster of releases. Young Thug’s BUSINESS IS BUSINESS album seems to be leading the way. Of course, we also received a sophomore effort from Coi Leray. In addition to that, we’ve seen a celebratory project from a recently freed Boosie Badazz, and a handful of new singles that we found worthy of our R&B Season playlist update.

The first comes from Chris Brown, who obviously came through on his promise to bring the heat this season. His “Summer Too Hot” single finds the father of three unleashing salacious lines. “Summer too hot not to f**k it up /
Is the mood right? (Ayy) Is it wet enough? / I got a new ride, guess I levelled up / Let me wet it up just a few times,” he sings. As expected, fans of the R&B sensation are already eating the song up, and can’t wait for more from Breezy.

Next up we hear from Muni Long, who continues to champion her Grammy Award-winning “Hrs & Hrs” single. This time around, she brought Usher onto the track to vocally float alongside her. On the remix, both artists sensually sing about their undying love. Prior to the track’s official debut on DSPs this weekend, Muni joined the Texas native on stage at his Lovers & Friends festival to perform their version of her 2021 fan favourite.

Our final pick of the day comes from the booked and busy Keyshia Cole, who’s been heavily promoting her new biopic over the past few weeks. Her “Forever Is A Thing” single hit streamers on Friday, and finds the songstress emotionally reflecting on the tumultuous relationship she had with her mother prior to her death, among other things. Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama” Fires Up Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

In an incredibly stacked week for music, maybe it seemed hard to wade through releases to find the best new R&B. However, big drops from a lot of rising and established stars made that hardly the case, but we rounded them all up for this week’s R&B Season playlist in the event that you missed anything. Moreover, we had a lot of albums and EPs in particular to talk about and highlight, plus a few singles that have us excited for these artists’ next full-length moves. First up is Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama,” a confident and soulful cut to add to her great repertoire. The gorgeous horns, wavy guitar, funky bass, and the singer’s own melodic and harmonic excellence make this a great journey of a track to sink into that undergoes a lot of progression.

In addition, we also had another single this week, but one that leans more into classic R&B sounds and melodies. ASTN and Alex Vaughn came through for a sultry duet titled “How Soon,” accentuated with soft guitar plucks and a slow snap beat that eventually works in some trap-like hi-hats. Furthermore, the two artists show a lot of chemistry towards the latter half of the song. They ask us how soon is too soon to move on from a past love, and it’s a more comforting track than that subject matter suggests.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist

Next up are a few great projects that dropped over the week. For example, there’s Ambré’s who’s loving you? EP, a collection of five pretty varied tracks that go beyond what’s considered traditional R&B. Specifically, we had to highlight the track “MUSE FREESTYLE” for its atmosphere, excellent vocal performance, and creatively put-together beat. In fact, Ambré also appeared on PHABO’s latest album Don’t Get Too Cozy, which came out this week as well. We recommend the cut “Luv Songs (Unruly)” for its sensual production and versatile leading vocals from the San Diego-born artist.

Finally, there’s Kiana Ledé’s album Grudges, which is chock-full of standouts and inviting tunes. While there are many to pick from, we think “Gone” with Bryson Tiller is a funky and immediate addition to any summer vibes playlist. Also, if you want to hear the Arizona native tackle a more traditional instrumental, “LMK” is right there waiting for you. Let us know what was you favorite R&B release of the week in the comments below. As always, come back to HNHH for more updates on the latest great music each week.

Ty Dolla Sign Sets Our “R&B Season” Playlist In “Motion” With His New Single

The first weekend of June is quickly wrapping up, and with it came some amazing new music. At the top of our latest R&B Season update is a collaboration from The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, and Madonna, which appears on the Canadian artist’s new HBO series, The Idol. After sharing the single, he spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, where Abel Tesfaye revealed that writing and co-producing a Madonna album has been a longtime dream of his that we’ll hopefully see come to fruition in the future.

Following that we have an impressive offering from Burna Boy, “Sittin’ On Top Of The World,” which has been receiving rave reviews across social media so far. While Metron Boomin’s new Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse soundtrack is heavily focused on hip-hop, the renowned producer also linked up with James Blake for “Hummingbird.” Elsewhere, a collaborative effort between RJAE and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie called “Remember That,” also caught our attention.

Ty Dolla Sign is back for the second weekend in a row with his new “Motion” single. It follows his reunion with ex, Lauren Jauregui for their latest collaboration, “Wolves,” which also features Russ. Aside from that, we’ve also got love for another Canadian crooner, Roy Woods. He’s back with yet another must-listen song, this one called “Don’t Mind Me.” So far this year, he’s also given us “Young Boy Problems” and “Don’t Love Me,” both of which are still in rotation for many fans.

Our final pick of the week comes from “GOD DID” collaborator Fridayy, who linked up with Chris Brown on “Don’t Give It Away.” Together, the vocally talented duo made magic that’s the perfect end to our weekly roster.
