KAYTRANADA & Tyla Refresh The Vibes On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update

We’re starting to feel the year dying down a bit when it comes to new music releases, but definitely in terms of quantity and not quality. Moreover, we only have a couple of tracks to talk about for our R&B Season playlist update, but that’s because we wanted to bring only the very best. Leading the way in that regard is one of 2023’s breakout stars, Tyla, with her new self-titled EP. With her blends of soul, Afrobeat, and electronic production, she’s definitely someone who will continue to build a wavy, serene, and engaging catalog in the future. If you want a taste of what the Johannesburg artist brings to the table, look no further than the impossibly catchy “Truth Or Dare.”

However, it’s almost like artists knew that our R&B Season playlist was going to be a bit smaller this week. With that in mind, KAYTRANADA dropped not one, but two new collaborations to bring even more chill vibes to the winter. One is “Lover/Friend”with Rochelle Jordan, whose gorgeous vocals glide over a slower-tempo but still classic deep Kaytra bounce. The other, “Stuntin” with Channel Tres, is a funkier shuffle with enveloping synths and less prominent bass that gives the track a more dreamy feel.

Finally, we’d be remiss to not mention some newer faces to music fans on our R&B Season playlist update. LAVI$H just released an acoustic version of his song “Seventeen,” and it’s the perfect song to cleanse the earlier dance-centric pallet. Not only is the vocal performance passionate and versatile, but the production really lets the light guitar leads take center stage. If this would be your first time listening to this song, it’s hard not to fall in love with this rendition on impact.

Meanwhile, let us know in the comments what your favorite tracks of these is– and also what else we missed in R&B releases this week. Still, don’t forget about the bangers that came through, for which our Fire Emoji playlist has you covered. You can click on the link below to hear Beyoncé’s new song “My House,” as well as many other amazing hard-hitters in hip-hop and beyond. Coco Jones Welcomes The Holiday Season On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update

It’s going to be a winter wonderland in a lot of parts of the world soon, and we have just the music to get you in the mood. For the holiday season, we’ve rounded up the best of the best soulful music drops of this week on our R&B Season playlist update. Leading the way with this joyful and chilly time of the year is Coco Jones with her new aptly themed single, “A Timeless Christmas.” That title definitely comes across, as her song is a tender and well-written jam that invokes just as much peace as it does passion through the instrumentation, the vocals, and the optimistic lyrics.

On the other hand, we also have a lot of newer players within R&B for this holiday season update, or artists who’ve been in the game for a while but haven’t gotten to another career peak. For example, the new track “Can’t Forget” from RIMON and Kelz2busy is a woozy and well-contrasted cut, with airy vocals and a dense, cavernous instrumental pallet. In addition, we also highlighted Omarion’s “The Usual,” which is more of a melodic and smooth trap-infused record. Either way you slice it, there’s a lot of talent to dig into in rhythm and blues as we reach the end of 2023.

Furthermore, we also wanted to point you to RAAHiiM’s new album BUT IF iiM HONEST (Deluxe) this R&B Season. These additional tracks add to the project’s cohesive genre blends, and make a pretty sultry and intoxicating complete package. While there are plenty of standout moments here, one cut that we can’t get enough of is the slow-burning “Bodies,” which packs a big punch in a short runtime. This is because of the warm keys, a low-key performance on the mic, and dreamy effects that make the song feel alive.

Meanwhile, we can’t head out without mentioning “40x” by Tink, which displays the rapper’s versatility and shows off her vocal chops. Finally, for the Afrobeat fans out there, Nonso Amadi, Chase Sakur, and Projexx teamed up for the “Foreigner” remix, which will heat you up if you’re feeling cold in these months. Let us know what your favorite release of these was in the comments down below, and also tell us what new music we missed this week. PinkPantheress & Central Cee Put A Foreign Twist On Today’s “R&B Season” Playlist

The mid-way point of November is already near, meaning Christmas spirit is ripe in the air. At this time of year, many prefer to take a break from their hip-hop-heavy playlists in favour of slow jams and holiday hits. Thankfully, you can count on our weekly R&B Season update to recap some of the hottest releases for you. Unsurprisingly, Chris Brown’s 11th studio album, 11:11 is at the top of today’s list – specifically his “No One Else” collaboration with Fridayy.

More heat from Breezy comes later on, but before that, we hear from two UK superstars on “Nice to meet you.” Central Cee is just one of the recording artists who joined forces with PinkPantheress on her debut LP, Heaven knows. Rema and Kelela are the others, along with Ice Spice on “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2.” The viral remix is one of Pink’s biggest hits to date, though she recently shared that she thinks the song is “crap,” even with all its numeric success.

Holding it down for Canada this weekend is Roy Woods, who’s soundtracking your late nights with his “4am” single. Chris Brown and Maeta’s joint effort “Best Ever” comes afterward, though its worth noting his new album has some solo titles that are worth a stream as well. Back on the topic of collaborations we have Rosemarie and Roddy Ricch’s “Is It Real?” marking our final tandem release today. Yaya Bey and AUDRE close things out with their work, respectively. The former shared “the evidence,” while the latter shines on “Cp Time,” concluding yet another impressive week of new music coming our way.

Tune into all our new R&B Season playlist additions, along with last Sunday’s titles from names like Giveon, Lucky Daye, and Majid Jordan, exclusively on Spotify. Which of this weekend’s arrivals is your favourite? Let us know in the comments, and click the link below to find more HNHH release recommendations on our weekly Fire Emoji update.

Majid Jordan & Ne-Yo Usher In Winter Nights On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update

There’s nothing like some soulful tunes to help you warm up as November rolls around and the winter is right around the corner. For that reason, we complied the best releases of the week for our latest R&B Season playlist update so you can get all the heat you need. First up is Majid Jordan’s long-awaited new album Good People, comprised of nine tracks that play with lengthy songwriting and creating dense atmospheres of gorgeous vocals and instrumentation. If you want a sampler to get a taste, look no further than the breezy and softly engaging track “Eyes Closed.” Moreover, if you want to get even more ready for the holiday season, Giveon has you covered with his quietly tender “O Christmas Tree” single, which he dropped long before his latest one, “The First Noel.”

Furthermore, another R&B Season highlight came from Ne-Yo and Fabolous, who remixed the former’s single “Link Up.” It’s a very funky jam, with watery piano keys and dense bass courtesy of Hitmaka that will keep a dance floor grooving. On that same dance-heavy and catchily melodic note, we have a dual single from Mannywellz and Pink Sweat$. “Attention” and “Better With You” pull a lot from Afrobeat and dancehall rhythms, and the result is a summery banger that keeps the party going even in chilly weather.

However, if you still want a more fittingly slow and spacey cut for your R&B Season listening, Lucky Daye’s new song “That’s You” is here to please. The main appeal here is unquestionably Daye’s beautiful performance, flowing between falsettos and passionate runs over a classically sultry backing track. When you feel the need to pop in a full album experience this week, then Ryan Trey’s STREETS SAY YOU MISS ME will have plenty of highlights and intimate records for you to spin. Particularly, we want to shout out “MORE THAN SORRY” for its trap-R&B blend that would fit just as well on a soulful record as it would on a hip-hop-oriented one.

Meanwhile, we have one more release to cover: EARTHGANG and Spillage Village’s psychedelic and dreamy single “Blacklight.” What was your favorite release from our R&B Season playlist update this week? Drop your thoughts on that- and on what we missed- down in the comments section below. Also, check out the playlist in full above and come back to HNHH for more great music drops around the clock.

Brent Faiyaz & Mariah The Scientist Take Over Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update

It’s starting to get real chilly… well, in certain parts of the world, anyway, but it helps that our R&B Season playlist updates are always hot no matter the weather. Moreover, we rounded up the best of the best soulful cuts to drop this week, and we have some great albums and singles to go over. First up is Mariah The Scientist, who dropped her ten-track effort To Be Eaten Alive, a brief but nonetheless lush experience. Specifically, the track “Out of Luck” combines classic R&B melodies with a peppy and vibrant instrumental that is as groovy as it is sensual. With other appearances from her boo Young Thug, 21 S*vage, and Vory, it’s a well-rounded and above all tender offering.

However, speaking of features, there’s one placement on our R&B Season playlist update this week that wipes that category clean. In contrast to this last highlight, Brent Faiyaz just dropped the feature-heavy album Larger Than Life, and it’s… well, larger than life. Tracks like “Outside All Night,” with its dusty strings, trap-inspired beat, and vocal harmonies, provide some really creative interpretations within the genre. It helps, too, that A$AP Rocky and N3WYRKLA come through with some energetic and gorgeous guest contributions, respectively.

Furthermore, this week also graced our R&B Season playlist with some throwback vibes for the 2000s crowd. If you miss classic soul and hip-hop fusions that are glamorous, poppy, and confident, Mary J. Blige and Vado fulfilled your wishes with the single “Still Believe In Love.” On the flip side, if you connect more strongly with the atmospheric and intimate R&B of contemporary fame, Majid Jordan’s new song “Violet” might be right up your alley. We say “might” because it’s a seven-minute slow burn, but its wavy guitar lines, synths, and subtle singing is still potent enough to captivate.

Meanwhile, on the underrated releases end of things, we also have Chxrry22’s new project Siren, on which the woozy “Favorite Girl” with Offset is a clear standout. In addition, there’s LOONY’s new single “Counting Thunder,” whose instrumentation is a more rock and indie-inspired take on rhythm and blues songwriting. Let us know what your favorite track from this R&B Season playlist update is- and which ones we missed this week- down in the comments. Check out the playlist above and come back to HNHH for more great music releases each week.

Sampha & Chris Brown Perfect Their Craft On Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

We’re almost at the end of October- and 2023, for that matter- but that doesn’t mean that R&B Season is slowing down in the slightest. Moreover, our newest playlist update rounds up the new release heavy hitters this week, which contains a highly anticipated album. Fans waited for Sampha’s new album Lahai for over six years, and the resulting project could not have been more worth the wait. Specifically, we decided to pick out one of many gorgeous and impressively crafted cuts on this LP: the song “Suspended.” Even though it’s been so long, the English creative’s tender and immersive songwriting and production remain as fresh and exciting as ever.

In addition, we also have a hot new track from Chris Brown, Davido, and Lojay for our R&B Season update. “Sensational” is an Afrobeats and dancehall-inspired cut, whose genres should hint at its breezy instrumentation and slippery melodies. Going towards a completely different vibe, Mustafa’s new soft and melancholy acoustic guitar ballad “Name of God” will sink you into a reflective state. There’s a similar emotion, albeit with more indie-rock-inspired production, on Kevin Abstract’s new single “What Should I Do?

Furthermore, this R&B Season keeps up the guitar-led and groovy vibes with the excellent track “Sleeper” from the always impressive BADBADNOTGOOD and Charlotte Day Wilson. Their past collaborations have all been gentle and soulful, and this latest offering is no exception. Also, we have a new album, Obsidian, from Naomi Sharon, whose Afrobeats leanings on “Time And Trust” make for a very compelling chill-out session. If you’re looking for more classic R&B vibes, though, look no further than “LIE LIE LIE!” from SadBoi and Aliyah’s Interlude.

Rounding out this playlist update is RealestK’s new EP Real World and the synth-heavy “Mr. Lonely.” Another solid EP this week came from Arin Ray, and Phases III is spearheaded quality-wise by the woozy “Moonlight.” Finally, Shay Lia released her new album FACETS, a diverse and powerful body of work whose cut “HIGH” ties a nice, relaxed bow on this week’s new releases. Let us know what we missed in the comments down below and what your favorite release this week was. Mariah The Scientist’s “From A Woman” Energizes Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

October’s starting to get chillier by the day, and what better way to heat yourself up than with our steamy R&B Season playlist update? Moreover, we complied the very best of the best new soulful releases of the week for your listening pleasure. Leading the pack is Mariah The Scientist’s new single “From A Woman,” which also got a companion piece from her boo, Young Thug. Of course, it’s quite the slow burn, with watery synths, soothing but understated vocals, and a steady and tension-building trap-inspired rhythm. Still, eventually she belts out and reaches for those higher notes with ease, and it’s a heartening and loyalty-based track.

Futhermore, the submerged and atmospheric tendencies of this R&B Season playlist update continue with each addition. Next up is Chxrry22 and Vory’s “Never Had This,” which is a little more menacing and slightly heavy than the previous cut in comparison. However, since both singers lean into the drama and into the fast-flowing thought processes on this cut, they share a lot of chemistry here. Most importantly, though, it creates an engaging contrast that doesn’t drain the track of its life or energy, which is a feat with a slower soundscape.

Another R&B Season highlight this week came courtesy of Layton Greene, whose gorgeous tone captures the spotlight on her new single “Something.” Even thought it’s the main draw of the song, this instrumental actually picks things up a little bit tempo and energy-wise on our playlist rotation. It’s a little more playfully lustful, and the extra percs and deep bass hits give it a stronger first-listen impact. In addition to all that, it might just be the catchiest main melody on this entire roster of new R&B releases this week.

Meanwhile, we have two more tracks to go through, both of which are pretty big collaborations. Bryson Tiller assisted Sy Ari Da Kid on “Priorities,” which is an ambient, low-key, but nonetheless vocally impressive song. Finally, the track “311!” not only evokes Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” quite tastefully, but the jazzy and tender song is quite the posse cut. Gallant, sneek, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Keyon Harrold crafted quite the beautiful song to end this off. Let us know what your favorite release of the week was and what we missed down in the comments below. Check out our R&B Season playlist above and come back to HNHH for more great music each week.

Drake, Tems & More Bring Smooth Waves To Our Latest “R&B Season” Playlist Update

Welcome back to our R&B Season playlist, whose update this week is full of October’s Very Own and other great artists to strike up a vibe. First up is, to no one’s surprise, Drake’s new album For All The Dogs, which has plenty of soulful highlights to mention. The OVO reunion on “Members Only” with PARTYNEXTDOOR, though, can’t be missed, as it throws it back to their classic collabs with dry rimshots and a watery atmosphere. Of course, they also share a lot of vocal chemistry, and we’d expect no less from the Canadian duo. In addition, Drizzy came through with a gorgeous, minimal, but powerful piano ballad on the song “Bahamas Promises.”

Furthermore, that’s not the only OVO representation on our R&B Season playlist this week. Majid Jordan also came through with a single, “Hands Tied,” that is even more subtle and spacey in comparison to the For All The Dogs cuts. This one has more of a rock-reminiscent rhythm, with steady percussion but occasional guitar strums, but one that’s elevated by woozy synths and soft singing. Overall, the duo crafts another transportive record that’s perfect for a sunset drive.

Next up this R&B Season is Tems, who once again stunned with her gorgeous tone and melodies on “Me & U.” Don’t let the chilled-out Afrobeat soundscape fool you: the track is still as danceable and wavy as any other from the superstar. Another standout release this week came courtesy of Omar Apollo, who dropped the Live For Me EP. Its title track is a laid-back alt-R&B jam that spotlights his emotive performance with sharp percussion and soft pianos. There’s a similar showcase on RealestK’s “It’s You,” whose vocals take center stage along with a great performance from BIA as the featured guest.

Meanwhile, RUSSELL! brought the old-school funk and mixed it with sultry lusting on their latest single, “JUST LIKE CANDY.” Finally, Arin Ray borrows quite heavily from hip-hop production for the hard-hitting “Wait So Long.” If you want to check heat like this out, listen to our R&B Season playlist above. Also, stick around on HNHH for more great music releases each week.

SZA & Jean Dawson’s “NO SZNS” Fits Right Into Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

We’re almost at the last leg of the year, but our R&B Season playlist updates aren’t getting any less stacked. Moreover, this week saw a lot of soulful tracks and a few robust projects to sink our ears into, including from some of the genre’s biggest names. For example, the one and only SZA assisted the endlessly creative and idiosyncratic Jean Dawson on their latest single “NO SZNS.” It’s a tender and guitar-led duet with powerful vocal performances, an anthemic chorus, and atmospheric instrumental embellishments. If you need a moment to breathe and relax after a busy week, spin this cut and get lost in it.

In addition, Brent Faiyaz makes his return to R&B Season with a woozy, sultry, and intoxicating jam, “WY@.” The crooner is well-known for his dreamy soundscapes and buttery vocals, and this song does what his fans love him for best. On the other side of that spectrum we have 070 Shake, whose track “Black Dress” takes more inspiration from dramatic and cavernous rock production. Deep guitar tones, a slow but consistent drum pattern, and additional synth passages make it a near-four-minute journey.

To pick things up a little more on our R&B Season playlist, we have the aptly titled “Pick It Up” from Jermaine Dupri and Jacquees. While other songs this week sit in emotive spaces, this song is concerned with little else other than a head-bobbing groove and smooth, romantic vocal harmonies. If you missed that low-tempo vibe, though, Amindi’s “bake” featuring Jordan Ward will loop you right back into that trance. Not only that, if you want even more, then she has a whole new mixtape, Take What You Need, offering 14 more gems.

Finally, another notable project release this week came from K. Michelle, who dropped I’M THE PROBLEM. One of its standout tracks is “This Man,” which is a simple but effective piano ballad with crisp snaps and a gorgeous performance from the Memphis-born hitmaker. Hopefully this update brought you some new songs to check out and reminded you of how great the genre’s biggest stars remain. Check out the R&B Season playlist above and stay up to date on HNHH for more great music releases each week.

Drake, SZA, & Diddy Headline Star-Studded R&B Season Update

Drake, SZA, Diddy, and more artists have made the past seven days one of the more memorable weeks for R&B music from throughout the year. The result is a star-studded update to HotNewHipHop’s R&B Season playlist showcasing the latest songs in the genre.

Several of the most noteworthy tracks are from Diddy’s long-awaited project, The Love Album: Off The Grid. “Another One Of Me,” with The Weeknd, French Montana, and 21 Savage, as well as “Moments” with Justin Bieber, and “Closer To God” with Teyana Taylor are all present. Diddy dropped the album back on September 15. Other featured artists across the 23-song tracklist include John Legend, Busta Rhymes, Jacquees, Fabolous, Swae Lee, and several more.

As for Drake, his collaboration with SZA, “Slime You Out,” kicks off the update. The track arrived, earlier this week, as Drake announced that he’s delaying the release of his upcoming album, For All The Dogs. In an update on social media, he admitted: “Okay my dilemma I am faced with is either cancel shows to finish the album or I complete the mission and drop the album before the last show. I owe you all these memories we are building and anywhere we have missed to-date we will be spinning back for sure. For All the Dogs October 6th. It’s only right…”

It wasn’t the only drama for Drake this week. To promote “Slime You Out,” Drake featured a picture of Halle Berry, who objected to the decision. “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy…even if you’re a woman!” she wrote on Instagram. In the comments, she clarified: “Didn’t get my permission. That’s not cool. I thought better of him!” “Slime You Out” isn’t SZA’s only appearance either. Her collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Snooze (Acoustic),” also makes the cut. Other inclusions on the R&B Season playlist feature Keke Palmer, Ambre, Cleo Sol, and more. In recent weeks, HotNewHipHop has highlighted Tinashe, Timbaland, and Jorja Smith, among others. Check out the full playlist above.
