R. Kelly Ordered To Pay Sexual Abuse Victims $300K For Herpes & Psychological Treatment

R. Kelly’s bank account is drying up after a judge ordered him to cough up six-figures to his sexual abuse victims.

A federal judge in Brooklyn ruled on Wednesday that the singer will have to cough up $300K to one of his sexual abuse victims for treatment towards herpes and psychological treatment.

Kelly’s conviction in New York already sent him to prison but the latest update from the judge details the monetary punishment he’s facing. A victim named “Jane” must receive $300K from Kellz to cover treatment for STDs and psychological help due to the trauma she suffered. A judge issued a similar order for another victim named “Stephanie.” However, the judge didn’t set a number yet. A judge also denied a third victim restitution.

A judge handed down a 30-year sentence to R. Kelly this year in the federal New York case.

Kelly was also convicted in another federal case in Chicago where he was accused of similar sex crimes. However, the case also surrounded the 2008 child pornography trial, where he was accused of obstruction.

There’s a good chance R. Kelly will have to cough up even more money for the victims in the Chicago case, though a judge hasn’t determined how much.

Kelly’s recent court filings revealed that he is down on cash these days. Earlier this month, a judge ruled to seize $27K out of his commissary account, leaving the singer with only $500. The amount seized from his commissary will be distributed among his victims.

R. Kelly Convicted Of Federal Child Pornography Charges In Chicago

R. Kelly in Court federal child pornography

R. Kelly was found guilty by a federal grand jury earlier today, Sept 14, on child pornography charges for videotaping himself having sex with his 14 year old goddaughter over 2 decades ago. However, he was not found guilty for charges of conspiring to obstruct justice in his 2002 criminal case.

According to the Chicago Tribune, after only 11 hours of deliberation, the jury found Kelly guilty of three counts of child pornography and child enticement. However, Kelly was acquitted of 6 counts of obstruction of justice, and one count of conspiracy to receive child pornography.

Kelly’s co-defendants, Milton “June” Brown, former employee of Kelly, and Derrel McDavid, his former business manager, were also acquitted on charges of conspiring to receive child pornography and conspiring to obstruct Kelly’s 2002 case.

Kelly had been indicted in 2019 on charges relating to producing and receiving child pornography, enticing minors for sex, and obstruction of justice. His two co-defendants, Brown and McDavid, were charged with helping Kelly cover up his crimes.

Kelly’s convictions come just a few months after received a 30 year prison sentence after being found guilty by a New York jury for sex trafficking and racketeering.

R. Kelly Is Found Guilty On Over Half The Charges In His Child Pornography Trial In Chicago

For the past two weeks, R. Kelly has been on trial for child pornography charges in Chicago. Today, after two days of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict. Kelly was accused of 13 charges, including producing child pornography, enticing minors for sex, and obstructing justice his 2008 child pornography trial. He was found guilty, according to CBS Chicago, of six of the 13 counts.

Ahead of the trial, Kelly made efforts to ban jurors who’d seen the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly on the grounds that they’d be biased against him. After the judge dismissed his request, the trial proceeded in late August. Among the witnesses against Kelly were the now-37-year-old woman who featured in the leaked original sextape when she was just 14 years old. Testifying under a false name after being granted immunity for lying on the stand in the 2008 trial. “because I was afraid to expose Robert…,” she said, “I became exhausted with living with his lies.”

Another witness for the prosecution testified that he’d been offered a substantial reward to recover the leaked tape. He said that, in addition to receiving $100,000 plus expenses, it was suggested to him that he could earn up to $1 million to verify it was the original tape and no copies had been made. He also said he kept copies until as recently as 2019, but only turned them in after learning the police were investigating him “because the police wasn’t going to pay me a million dollars.”

Kelly was previously convicted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges in a separate, federal case in New York City. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison and sexual disorder treatment, and the judge ruled that his prison funds could be given to his victims.

Juror Dismissed From R. Kelly’s Trial After Having a Panic Attack

R. Kelly's Lawyer

A bit of drama ensued at R. Kelly’s trial in Chicago as a juror suffered a panic attack during a court break. According to TMZ, the juror, a white female, had a panic attack after the prosecution’s closing argument.

The woman was dismissed after the judge was told she “couldn’t last another minute.” In her place a white male stepped in her place. He also reportedly has not seen Surviving R. Kelly.

In the prosecutor’s close, R. Kelly was labeled a sexual predator who used his celebrity status as a tool to abuse minors. The defense team was up to give their arguments after.

Earlier in the trial, the court received testimony from R. Kelly’s goddaughter. According to TMZ, Kells’ goddaughter stated the singer had sex with her hundreds of times before she turned 18. She added the first time they had sex was when she was just 15 years old. She is the same alleged victim from the 2008 trial, which included a sex tape.

The alleged victim stated she gave in to the sexual relationship with the singer because she was afraid to say no. Kelly’s goddaughter is now 37 and requested the singer to be her godfather when she was 13. After that, the relationship would turn sexual.

At age 14, R. Kelly allegedly first groped her breasts for the first time at a Chicago recording studio. She stated she had sex an uncountable amount of times with Kelly before she turned 18. The locations of their encounters included Kelly’s home, studio, tour bus, and rented hotel rooms.

Stating she was intimidated and didn’t know how to say no, the alleged victim revealed the sexual relationship lasted so long it began to feel normal.

During their relationship, the woman testified that she was asked to recruit additional teenage girls for sex, and Kelly recorded an encounter when she was just 14.

R. Kelly Trial Closing Arguments Set for Today

kelly

Closing arguments are scheduled Monday for R. Kelly and two co-defendants in the R&B singer’s trial on federal charges of trial-fixing, child pornography and enticing minors for sex, with jury deliberations to follow.

This trial has showcased heart wrenching testimonies, revealing payoffs and unthinkable decisions from all parties involved.

Minutes before the defense rested late Friday, Kelly co-defendant and ex-business manager Derrell McDavid ended three days on the stand. He testified for nearly two days that he had believed Kelly when he denied abusing minors — then said he started having doubts about Kelly’s believability during the trial that started last month.

Kelly and McDavid are charged with fixing Kelly’s 2008 state child pornography trial, which Kelly was acquitted, by threatening witnesses and concealing video evidence. Both also face child pornography charges. A third co-defendant, Kelly associate Milton Brown, is accused of receiving child pornography.

Prosecutors normally get a chance to call witnesses in a rebuttal of the defense case. But when they told Judge Harry Leinenweber that they needed time to prepare, he said there would be no rebuttal and the case would go straight to closing arguments Monday morning.

McDavid was the only one of the three defendants to testify on his own behalf.

A New York Federal Judge Rules That R. Kelly’s Substantial Prison Funds Can Be Remitted To His Victims

On Friday (September), New York federal judge Ann Donnelly ruled that prosecutors could claim the tens of thousands of dollars R. Kelly possesses in his prison funds account and use them to pay fines or compensate his victims. The ruling deemed that the federal bureau of prisons must hand over $27, 824 to the prosecutors who will maintain possession until a final ruling is given.

Federal prosecutors argued, “The defendant has not made any payments towards the substantial criminal monetary penalties imposed upon him at sentencing, even though payment was due immediately.” Kelly retorted that the government had “improperly” taken his funds and did not have the right to do so, but Donnelly countered that there was “no dispute” that federal statutes gave prosecutors the right to use Kelly’s inmate funds to compensate his victims.

This decision came after a Washington Post article revealed that the Bureau Of Prisons was giving pushback on efforts to seize funds from inmates to be given to their victims. The article reported that said funds amount to over $80 million per year and are used to pay the salaries of hundreds of staffers within the bureau.

R. Kelly, who is currently on trial in Chicago for several criminal charges, was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges last year in New York after decades of sexual misconduct allegations. Specifically, the R&B singer was accused of a longstanding operation where he would recruit and abuse women and underage girls. After a long enduring process, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison this past June.

The Chicago artist is gearing up to appeal his convictions. His attorneys feel his previous legal team was inadequate and the evidence against him is insufficient to justify a conviction. As for his Chicago case, if convicted, Kelly can face additional decades added to his already-30-year sentence.
