50 Cent Reacts To Winning $1 Billion “Power” Lawsuit From Former Drug Kingpin

Recently, AllHipHop reported that 50 Cent came out victorious after his legal battle with former drug kingpin Cory “Ghost” Holland. Holland accused Fif of using his life story, as told on his 2007 CD Blasphemy, as the plot of his hit series Power. He hit him with a $1 billion lawsuit, though the court ultimately sided with 50 Cent.

Now, the mogul has taken to social media to share his reaction to the good news, making it clear that he never had any doubts. “Fool thought he was GHOST😆,” he wrote alongside a story about his latest legal win. “Da fvck wrong wit these 🥷🏾’s man 🤨LOL @bransoncognac @lecheminduroi.”

Judge Analisa Torres ruled that Power never directly refers to Holland, which would be required for a defamation claim. She also said that any similarities between Holland’s life and the plot of the show could be mere coincidences. While the legal battle has now come to a close, things got ugly in the past, as Holland allegedly threatened Fif’s life earlier this year. “If a m*therf*cker gets killed because your m*therf*cking client threaten me and my family, file a m*therf*cking motion for that. I ain’t playing with your m*therf*cking client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f*ck the litigation,” Holland said.

“50 Cent plays games with people’s lives, he humiliates people, he comes to their homes, then plays a victim. He constantly in somebody mess. Plaintiff has warned 50 Cent, he ain’t no entertainer.” As one would expect, his legal counsel expressed serious concern about the apparent threat and told the court they would notify relevant local authorities. 50 Cent Wins $1 Billion “Power” Lawsuit From Former Drug Kingpin

50 Cent has won the $1 billion lawsuit brought by a former drug kingpin over his hit series, Power, according to AllHipHop. Cory “Ghost” Holland alleged that 50 stole his life story for the plot of the STARZ show. He first filed the billion-dollar lawsuit back in 2021, naming co-creator Courtney Kemp, STARZ, and Lionsgate, in addition to 50 Cent. Holland argued that he detailed his life story in a 2007 CD titled Blasphemy, which he sent to Kemp’s father. He had hoped it would help him find a way to legitimately earn a living and get out of the drug trade.

Judge Analisa Torres ended up siding with 50 and ruled that the show never directly refers to Holland, as required for a defamation claim. She also said other similarities boil down to mere coincidences. In another lawsuit, Holland further accused 50 Cent and his associates of harassing and threatening him by showing up and playing a song near his home.

After the alleged incident, AllHipHop obtained a letter from Holland warning 50 not to threaten him again. It reads: “If a motherf**ker gets killed because your motherf**king client threaten me and my family, file a motherf**king motion for that. I ain’t playing with your motherf**king client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f**k the litigation.”

Holland ended up losing that case as well with Torres ruling: “There is no indication that this conduct constituted a threat, much less an ‘imminent threat of harmful contact’ as required for an assault claim.” Be on the lookout for further updates on 50 Cent and his other legal trouble on HotNewHipHop.

Media Mogul 50 Cent Is Getting His Own TV Channel As He Inks A New Deal With Lionsgate

50 Cent’s vow to get rich and die trying continues to pay off. The “I Get Money” rapper turned television mogul is padding his resume yet again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 50 Cent, by way of G-Unit Film And Television and G-Unit Studios, has signed a deal with Lionsgate to catapult its latest network.

The free channel, 50 Cent Action, is said to be an ad-supported offering of the company’s already plentiful film catalog including The Expendables, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and Rambo. But if you’re a fan of 50 Cent’s television or film work in front of or behind the camera, you’re in luck. More than a dozen films in which he starred as well as the original Power series will be made available on the network.

In a statement, Jim Packer, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television distribution, shared his excitement about the venture. “50 Cent’s movies and television series are synonymous with non-stop action,” he said. “And we’re thrilled to extend our longstanding partnership into the FAST space.”

50 Cent also spoke out regarding the venture to THR. “I’ll make sure the quality of everything is there,” he said. “The platform has to be able to fit my original material. Give me one year, and I’ll be ranked the highest FAST channel.”

Some would consider this to be a rather bold claim, but after he declared he was the only person from hip-hop culture to produce quality projects, the public shouldn’t expect anything milder from 50 Cent.

50 Cent’s transition to mogul has been a sight to witness. The “In Da Club” rapper struck TV gold with Power, and its spin-offs.

With Power Book II: Ghost starring Michael Rainey Jr. and now Power Book IV: Force with Joseph Sikora entering its final season, viewers are ready to say goodbye for good. However, yesterday (June 14), 50 Cent made it clear that Power Universe fans should expect something special rather soon.

While sharing the Sikora’s teaser video on the set of Force, 50 Cent used the post’s caption to hint at the beloved TV series’ future. “I’m glad all the fans have been so supportive of ‘Force,’” he wrote. “We have more heat coming, my ‘Power Universe’ is still expanding… wait till you see what I have up my sleeve, you haven’t seen the last of Tommy.”

Sikora echoed the sentiments in the clip. “When Gary Lennon and the other writers and I were mapping out our third season, we saw that we were telling a complete story,” he said. “And that this was the perfect opportunity to stay true to our artistic vision and make this the final chapter in Tommy’s journey in Chicago. 50 Cent’s Life Threatened By Former Drug Kingpin Over “Power” Lawsuit

An ongoing legal trouble for 50 Cent just escalated to a full-on death threat. He’s been embattled in a massive $1 billion lawsuit over his TV show Power and the inspiration behind one of its principal characters. Cory “Ghost” Holland claims that the show is eerily similar to his life story as told on his 2007 CD Blasphemy. He even claims to have sent a copy of the CD to the father of Courtney Kemp, who would go on to co-create Power. The show’s protagonist is also nicknamed “Ghost” and Holland has pointed out multiple similarities to his own story outlined in the suit.

But in a new correspondence to 50’s lawyers, Holland raised the stakes to threats of violence. According to AllHipHop, he delivered a profanity laced response that included death threats. “If a m*therf*cker gets killed because your m*therf*cking client threaten me and my family, file a m*therf*cking motion for that. I ain’t playing with your m*therf*cking client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f*ck the litigation,” Holland’s response reads. Holland also claims that it’s the last time 50 will hear from him, leaving the rest up to the judge. Check out the full letter he delivered below.

50 Cent also recently found himself in some hot water with fans. Just a few days after making comments on the donations Donald Trump received following his guilty verdict, he was in Washington DC. While there he posed for a photo-op with controversial conservative Colorado representative Lauren Boebert. 50 didn’t seem too bothered by all the backlash though, laughing it off in a later Instagram post.

Lawsuit Over Kanye West’s 2010 Track ‘Power’ Sample Dispute Settles Ahead of Trial

Kanye West George Floyd

Bet you didn’t know Kanye West’s hit record “Power” was facing legal scrutiny for a sample. That happens. Often in the music industry, Declan Colgan Music Ltd just settled its lawsuit with Universal Music Group (UMG) over the sample of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man.” See, Declan Colgan Music Ltd owns the mechanical rights to the song and alleged that UMG had been underpaying streaming royalties from “Power.” They filed the lawsuit in London’s High Court in March 2022. So this was a UK thing, and essentially – the plaintiff won.

Get this: The case was scheduled for trial in the U.K. this week but was settled out of court. And they don’t do a whole lot of suing and settling in the UK. Like, it’s far from the sure everybody energy in America. Anyway, the settlement terms are undisclosed, but Variety reported that their understanding is that Declan Colgan Music Ltd received a payment as part of the agreement. Representatives for both Declan Colgan Music Ltd and UMG declined to comment.

For music heads, King Crimson first released “21st Century Schizoid Man” on their 1969 debut album “In the Court of the Crimson King.” According to the lawsuit, West originally sampled the track without a license for “Power,” whose video has over 140 million views on YouTube since its release in 2010. “Power” was also featured on West’s album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.”

Diving deeper, after the release of the song and album, UMG and West’s production company Rock the World signed a deal with Declan Colgan Music Ltd, entitling the company to royalties on the same terms as West. West’s deal with UMG ensured his royalties for both streaming and physical CDs would be comparable. However, Declan Colgan Music Ltd claimed that the streaming royalties they received were not comparable to those for CD sales. Declan Colgan Music Ltd was represented by the Clintons, while UMG was represented by Russells.
