Big Scarr Drops Some Cold Tracks On His Posthumous Album “Frozone”

Memphis, Tennessee has brought us a lot of exciting voices in rap over the past few years. One of those rising talents includes Big Scarr. If you have not heard his material before, he has that signature deep and intimidating voice. It is very similar to Key Glock and Young Dolph.

Unfortunately, his legacy in the hip-hop genre was short lived. The then 22-year old rapper tragically passed away from a drug overdose. TMZ Hip Hop reported this, as well as a lot of other publications on December 23 of last year. It was obviously shocking news. As many estates have for other rappers, they are still getting some music out to help continue the spread of their artistry.

Listen To Frozone By Big Scarr

That is the case here for Scarr’s team. In fact, this is the second album from them this year. Gucci Mane’s 1017 Global Music label, which Scarr was a part of was behind this. Guwop announced it on his Instagram yesterday. This latest LP is called Frozone and it might be one of the best put together posthumous releases in recent memory. Clearly, Scarr was at a high level during these recordings. There is tons quality spitting and beat selection. One of the tracks to check out is “Still The Same.” The use of the constant piano keys bring a fast tempo style, which Scarr absolutely shreds. If you are looking for solid trap bangers with a Southern tinge, this is the project for you.

Swizz Beatz Thinks He Has Enough Unreleased DMX Material For A Posthumous Album

Very few deaths have rocked the hip-hop world in recent memory like DMX. The legendary rapper passed away in April of 2021 and while many of the circumstances surrounding his death at the time were unclear, that didn’t stop many in the rap community from showing him love. Shortly after his death, an album he was working on at the time of his passing was finished. The album is called Exodus and sports numerous high-profile features. Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Swizz Beatz and Usher are just a few of the artists who contributed to the album.

Swizz Beatz worked on Exodus quite a bit and he recently mused on the idea of creating another posthumous DMX effort. When asked in an interview by HipHopDX if he had enough material for another album he responded “for sure.” But the question of whether or not he will actually make one is still up for debate. “Will I make another X album? I don’t know. It has to feel good,” he answered. Check out his responses and the entire interview.

Swizz Beatz On Another Posthumous DMX Album

Recently, DMX came up on an episode of Ma$e and Cam’Ron’s podcast It Is What It Is. The segment turned controversial when both hosts agreed that they would take him over Tupac in a best rapper debate. That sparked all kinds of controversy online as fans debated DMX’s legacy and where he stands all-time among the best rappers ever.

Earlier this year, DMX and Tupac were linked for an entirely different reason. An AI-generated song meant to sound like a collaboration between the two made the rounds online. Fans pointed out how much they enjoyed the quality of the song and how accurately it mimicked the styles of both artists. It also served as part of a greater debate on AI music that has been raging all year. Do you think Swizz Beatz should make a second posthumous DMX album? Let us know in the comment section below.

King Von’s Upcoming Posthumous Album “Grandson” Divides Fans

Grandson will be King Von’s next posthumous release, as his estate recently announced via social media. Moreover, the project is scheduled to release on July 14, and the cover art features a black and white picture of the rapper’s son wearing a fitted hat and OTF and O’Block chains. While this is obviously very exciting news for fans, it’s also something that made them cautious and skeptical. After all, other posthumous releases are bloated, disrespectful, or poorly put together in fans’ eyes. As such, the comments section under the announcement split fans into optimistic excitement and wary assessment.

Of course, plenty of comments just feature fire and heart emojis, indicating a simple but powerful support of the album and King Von’s musical legacy. “Finally! This gonna slap. We ready,” one fan expressed. “Please don’t give us dry a** features that Von prolly wouldn’t have did ready to hear this tho fasho,” another wrote. If his most recent single “Robberies” is anything to go by, though, this will probably still hold itself to a higher standard of quality. Still, some fans have the worst-case scenario in mind, which has unfortunately affected a lot of deceased artists’ posthumous work.

King Von’s Estate Announces Grandson For July 14 Release

“Stop milking this dead mans music and let him rest,” one user commented under the announcement of Grandson. “bro is they doing what i think they doin ……….. A.I genarated,” another feared, although that’s purely speculation. “Don’t f**k this album up gang,” another replied bluntly. Even though these doubts exist for fans, there’s also just as many people ready to support his estate and to celebrate what could’ve been of King Von’s career. Perhaps it will end up being one of the more acclaimed hip-hop albums of the year, and even the fans who are naysayers hope that’s the case.

Meanwhile, the Chicago MC continues to inspire stories around his life, struggles, and lasting impact as an artist. Many who blasted a recent documentary about his criminal life dedicate themselves to preserving his memory in more positive ways. Von’s estate knows the pressure, and hopefully (and probably) won’t taint his catalog for a quick buck. For more news and the latest updates on King Von, check back in with HNHH.

Quavo & Offset Link Up At Takeoff’s Posthumous Birthday Celebration

Seeing as he’s brought five beautiful children into the world, Father’s Day is obviously a special one for Offset – Cardi B makes sure of that. However, this year, the holiday coincides with what would’ve been Takeoff’s 29th birthday, which he’s no longer here to celebrate. All day (June 18) long, we’ve seen Instagram light up with heartfelt tributes to the late Migos rapper. Elsewhere, several of his closest friends and family members gathered together for a beautiful celebration in Take’s honour.

As photos begin to surface online, hip-hop heads are happy to see that Quavo and Offset were photographed chatting. In their usual form, both lyricists kept their sunglasses on and had plenty of chains around their necks. A smiling portrait of Takeoff appears on both of their shirts. While neither artist looks cheerful in the photo, simply knowing that they’re able to be in the same space after their past beef is encouraging.

Apart from keeping the fallen star’s spirit alive, his friends also sent lanterns with messages for Takeoff into the sky. “To those whose flame has been extinguished, let this light represent our love and compassion,” one of them reads. “We will never forget you.” From what the “Can’t Go Out Sad” artists have said, a Migos reunion without Take in the picture is unlikely. Still, we hold out hope that we’ll see the remaining two lyricists rebuild the brotherly bond they had before things turned south between them.

Since Takeoff’s tragic death last year, both Quavo and Offset have been more focused on their music careers than ever before. The former revealed a few weeks back that his next LP will be called Rocket Power, and that it’s a tribute to his late nephew. Read more about the upcoming project at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Mac Miller Gets First Multi-Platinum Album Certification

Mac Miller’s untimely death in 2018 had a profound impact on the creative world. However, his music has remained popular, and his recent certifications demonstrate his enduring appeal. On June 7, Mac Miller’s final studio album released before his passing, Swimming, achieved double platinum certification from the RIAA. This signifies two million units sold in the U.S. In February 2021, the album had already received platinum certification, marking Mac’s first project to reach that status. Furthermore, the song “Self Care” from the same album has been certified 5x platinum. That has surpassed his previous highest-certified song, “Weekend,” a collaboration with Miguel. That track achieved 4x platinum status from his 2015 album GO:OD AM.

Mac Miller’s earlier albums, Blue Slide Park, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, and GO:OD AM have all been certified gold. Even his posthumous release Circles has made gold status. Swimming was released in August 2018, a month before Mac Miller’s passing. It is often considered his magnum opus and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It is a testament to the rapper’s artistry that was unfortunately snuffed out too soon.

Although he couldn’t witness his music’s continued success, Mac Miller’s legacy lives on through his art. Jon Brion, who worked on Swimming, was enlisted by Mac’s estate to help complete the album he had been working on before his untimely death. In 2020, the posthumous album Circles was released to critical acclaim. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and achieved Mac’s highest sales week for an album, with 164,000 units sold. The lead single, “Good News,” became his highest-charting track as a lead artist. It reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mac Miller’s family has been careful and sensitive in handling his legacy since his passing. In 2021, his 2014 mixtape Faces was finally made available on streaming platforms after clearing the necessary samples.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility of new music from Mac Miller. Reportedly, he left behind an extensive collection of unreleased material. After featuring Mac on his album Liberation 2, producer Madlib revealed earlier this year that he is putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited “Maclib” project. He confirmed that this is the same project that was previously reported. He also said that Mac Miller’s estate has given approval for its eventual release. At least Mac Miller fans have something to look forward to in the future. For now, they can enjoy the late rapper’s continued success.

Pop Smoke Has No More Music In The Vault, Rico Beats Confirms

There is no more unreleased music from the late New York rapper Pop Smoke, according to producer/manager Rico Beats. Rico responded to a fan who wanted an update on when they can expect more posthumous music from Pop Smoke. The back-and-forth was shared on social media over the weekend.

“Who said he had music left,” Rico wrote back. “What else ya want pop died 3 years ago how much music ya think he did in one year? Y’all gotta be real.” From there, Rico claimed that Pop Smoke wouldn’t be happy with the posthumous music that’s available in his name. “If pop was a live he would not approved of 99 percent of the stuff they put out,” Rico said.

Pop Smoke’s estate has released two albums since his death in 2020. They dropped his debut studio album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, a few months after he was murdered during a home invasion. 50 Cent served as the executive producer on the project. A year later, they released Pop Smoke’s second and final studio album, Faith. Both projects featured a star-studded list of features that included Kanye West, Pusha T, Rick Ross, 42 Dugg, 21 Savage, The Neptunes, Bizzy Banks, Takeoff, Lil Tjay, Swae Lee, Future, Chris Brown, Dua Lipa, Pharrell, Kid Cudi, Quavo, Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Swae Lee, Future, and Kodak Black, among others.

This isn’t the first time that Pop Smoke’s associates have hinted at running out of unreleased music from the late artist. Following the release of Faith, his friend, Mike Dee, confirmed that they used almost all of his catalog to release that album. “I feel like, instead of dropping all thirty songs, I would have waited until now, till next year, that way his name will stay alive instead of just dropping it all at one time,” he said during an interview with Kalisha Perera at the time. “I’m guessing this is what he had left in the vault. Yeah.”

Pop Smoke & Jay Gwuapo’s “Lefty” Arrives In Full

Pop Smoke’s vault has run dry, according to his associates, but there still seem to be a few gems that are due out for an official release. Over the weekend, Pop Smoke affiliate and Brooklyn drill rapper Jay Gwuapo treated fans to the official release of “Lefty.” Snippets of the record began circulating in late 2022 before a full leak emerged. Some variations of the record included contributions from Fivio Foreign, who doesn’t appear on the official release of “Lefty.”

The official version of the record finds Pop Smoke filling the intro and outro while Gwuapo holds down the verse. For those that have been longing for new music from Pop, this might fill the void but ultimately, even his posthumous appearance on the record doesn’t necessarily showcase anything we haven’t heard. However, it’s apparent that Pop’s gruff flow belongs on these types of icy, sinister productions rather than the pop-centric beats that have largely occupied his posthumous albums.

Pop Smoke & Jay Gwuapo Unite On “Lefty”

Ultimately, it looks like there won’t be many posthumous offerings from Pop Smoke in the future. Months after the Brooklyn-bred star died, his label and 50 Cent teamed up for the release of his official debut album, Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon. The body of work emerged as one of the highest-selling albums of 2020 and continued its reign on the charts the following year. In 2021, his team unveiled Faith to lesser success, although fans were still happy to hear unreleased music from the vault.

As for Jay Gwuapo, the rapper hasn’t released a full project since 2019’s From Nothing Pt. 1. However, he released a steady stream of singles since then. In 2023, he came through with “Blue Faces” ft. Asian Doll and also teamed up with Sabathagod and Plexxbaby for “In The City.” Hopefully, he has more music on the way, especially now that he’s dropped “Lefty.” Check out the single above and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below.

Tyler, The Creator Reveals His Stance On Posthumous Music

Tyler, The Creator remains one of the best artists out right now. Overall, he is someone who is always expanding his craft and showing people what he can do. Moreover, he just released The Estate Sale which is a special expansion to his Call Me If You Get Lost release. It is yet another example of Tyler’s artistry, and there is no doubt that people have been loving his latest release. At the end of the day, how could they not? Tyler’s evolution has simply been amazing to watch.

Recently, Tyler, The Creator got to perform the album during an intimate show. This took place at the El Rey Theatre, and there were quite a few fans in attendance. Subsequently, Tyler performed his newest tracks, while also rapping over other ones. For instance, he performed a song called “Penny” which was made during the recording sessions for CMIYGL. The track went over great with the fans, however, prior to performing it, he did offer an interesting revelation.

Tyler, The Creator Makes One Thing Clear

As you can see below, he explains that he has a hard drive filled with incredible songs. Moreover, he would like to release a lot of them soon. This is because he won’t be releasing posthumous music. On the whole, he thinks posthumous music is disgusting. So much so, he has made it an integral part of his will. “Some of these are so good I can’t just let ’em sit on my hard drive,” Tyler explained. “Because I have in my will that if I die, they can’t put no fucking post[humous] album out. That’s fucking gross, [they’ll get] like some random feature on it, some n***a I didn’t fuck with.”

What Tyler is doing here is very smart. There are plenty of artists who have gotten posthumous releases, and they were all quite underwhelming. Now, Tyler is making sure that he is not the next victim of this trend. Let us know what you think of all this, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news from around the music world.
