According to the New York Post, Mayor Adams commented on the topic previously and said he is not interested in focusing on a presidential campaign.

“That’s a silly, silly story. I never had a conversation about that and I love being mayor, and you can run the country from New York City. I’m the mayor. That’s all I’m focused on.”

President Biden Signs Executive Order for Police Reform on Second Anniversary of George Floyd’s Death

Biden entertainment industry

On the second anniversary of George Floyd’s death, President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at changing policing procedures.

The directive establishes a national register of officers who have been dismissed for wrongdoing and urges state and local law enforcement to tighten chokehold and no-knock warrant limits. According to NBC News, it also prohibits military equipment from being transferred to law enforcement agencies and requires all federal agents to wear activated body cams.

The new executive order comes after Congress failed to provide bipartisan support to the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

“I know progress can be slow and frustrating, and there’s a concern that the reckoning on race inspired two years ago is beginning to fade,” Biden said. “Today, we’re acting. We’re showing that speaking out matters, being engaged matters, and that the work of our time, healing the soul of this nation, is ongoing and unfinished and requires all of us never to give up. Always to keep the faith.”

The President and First Lady Jill Biden are in Buffalo following Saturday’s deadly mass killing at a grocery store. They will pay respects at the TOPS Market memorial before a private meeting with affected families, first responders and community leaders.

The President will deliver remarks around 1PM, Eastern time. Reports say President Biden is going to call the mass killing an act of “domestic terrorism.”

President Biden said the mass shooting that killed ten people in Buffalo was as an act of “white supremacy.” On Sunday while speaking at National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at the Capitol, he confirmed the Justice Department is investigating it as a “hate crime.”

Most of the victims in Saturday’s mass shooting were Black, and the alleged gunman, identified as Payton Gendron is a white male. Officials say the 18-year-old suspect drove from near the Pennsylvania state line to commit the attack and livestreamed the attack on Twitch.

NBC News reports a manifesto allegedly written by Gendron was posted on Google Docs Thursday night. The document allegedly lays out plans to attack Black people, and promotes conspiracy theory claims that white people are being replaced by minorities in the U.S.

Vice President Harris Gives Jarring Reality Check During HBCU Commencement Speech

Vice President Harris Speaks At College Commencement

Vice President Kamala Harris gives graduates a jarring reality check during her HBCU commencement speech.

The VP left some college graduates with a sobering picture of the “unsettled” world they’re heading into. She discussed the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the possibility Roe v. Wade may be overturned by the Supreme Court during a commencement speech Saturday at Tennessee State University.

“Graduates, I look at this unsettled world and yes, I can see the challenges, but I’m here to tell you that I see the opportunities. The opportunities for your leadership. The future of our country and our world will be shaped by you.”

Harris stated that “the certainty of fundamental principles,” like territorial integrity and bodily autonomy, are being called into question. She ended the speech by congratulating the class of 2022 on their achievements despite the ongoing pandemic.

“Here in the United States, we are once again forced to defend fundamental principles that we hoped were long settled; principles like the freedom to vote, the rights of women to make decisions about their own body, what constitutes the truth,” she said.

Harris is also set to give a commencement speech May 18 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Share your thoughts with us on social media.

There is a shift at the White House. The Director of Digital Engagement in the Office of Digital Strategy, Cameron Trimble, will be moving on.

Trimble led inclusive digital engagement efforts, including notable cultural figures such as DJ D-Nice, Tyra Banks, and Mark Ruffalo. Those digital campaigns helped The White House amplify messages and promoted engagement-focused Covid vaccinations. Trimble’s work also was instrumental in the nomination of Justice Kentaji Brown Jackson and in sourcing virtual channels to reach millions of people.

Trimble was the Deputy Digital Director for the first-ever virtual presidential inauguration before joining the Biden administration. In his administration role, Trimble and other team members were in charge of bringing together the first-ever digital partnerships to stream the inauguration ceremonies across more than 50 different digital outlets. The result was the largest virtual audience ever for a presidential inauguration.

Trimble joined the Biden-Harris campaign in the summer of 2020, during the general election, before working on the presidential inauguration. He oversaw one of the largest voter registration drives in political history. Trimble also supervised the African American paid media operation, which spent almost $60 million to reach Black voters.

Trimble has also worked as a senior adviser to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), the House Science and Technology Committee chairwoman on Capitol Hill.
