Megan Thee Stallion & Cardi B Bring The “Bongos” To Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist This Week

Summer might be over, but by no means does that mean that new music releases are slowing down in hip-hop. Moreover, our Fire Emoji playlist update this week covers a lot, from massive mainstream returns to low-key but always welcome hits. To start things off, how could we not mention Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s comeback hit, “Bongos“? It’s quite the stylistic shift for the two femcees sonically, taking more rhythmic cues from dembow and Latin genres than hip-hop instrumentation. To keep up the girl power, Latto and Sexyy Red revitalized one of the year’s best hard-hitting trap bangers with their remix of Young Nudy’s “Peaches & Eggplants.”

Next, our Fire Emoji playlist contains a highlight from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s latest EP, B4 BOA. “Did Me Wrong” is a soulful yet nonetheless energetic cut that hints towards what the New York MC will do with his next full-length project. As far as other singles, Peezy, Money Man, and Larry June teamed up for the gritty and haunting “Fashion Week,” showing off confident verses and flows. For a lyricist as recently acclaimed and often abstract as Mr. “Good Job Larry” himself, seeing this change of pace is a refreshing experience.

Meanwhile, Tee Grizzley achieved a similar switch-up with the track “IDGAF,” which leaves his heavy and impactful bars to the side. Sure, they’re still in there, but with Chris Brown and Mariah the Scientist as features, it’s a pretty sultry and genre-blending R&B and trap song. In fact, there’s a similar melodic and trunk-knocking appeal to Chris Patrick’s Fire Emoji contribution, “LOCK IT UP.” As an MC, he’s just as prone to firing off fast flows as he is to belt his vocals and craft catchy refrains.

Finally, Killer Mike was kind enough to grace us with a loosie from his recent excellent album MICHAEL, titled “MAYNARD VIGNETTE” and featuring T.I., JID, and Jacquees. It’s an incredible reunion between all artists, and one that’s heartfelt and impressive. To end things off, Rob49, Jay Rock, Ray Ray McCloud, Melvin Ingram, and J300 crafted another hype posse cut on “Primetime” off the new Madden NFL EP CROWD CONTROL. Check out the full Fire Emoji playlist above and stay up to date on HNHH for more great hip-hop each week.

Victoria Monet & Fridayy’s New Releases Are An “R&B Season” Mood

We’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, but what makes the transition into fall and winter so much easier each year is knowing that our R&B Season playlist will carry us through. Last weekend we heard from Usher, Ciara, Lil Baby, and many more on our weekly update. Today (August 27), it’s a collaboration from Brent Faiyaz and Coco Jones, “Moment Of Your Life” taking the top spot as music lovers praise the two talented vocalists for their work on the song.

In terms of new albums, Victoria Monet gave us arguably one of the biggest releases of the week with JAGUAR II. She connected with acts like Lucky Daye and Buju Banton across the 11-song tracklist, but for R&B Season, we’ve selected her solo effort, “Alright” for your streaming consideration. Following that comes “ZOOMIES” from Jordan Ward’s moreward(FORWARD) project, as well as “Stand By Me” from Fridayy’s debut album.

The “GOD DID” collaborator caught our attention with “Stand By Me,” which he dropped an accompanying music video for earlier this weekend. Elsewhere on his new LP we hear from Adekunle Gold on “Done For Me” and Chris Brown on “Don’t Give It Away.” Drake may not have delivered his For All The Dogs album as we speculated he would, but still, his new OVO artist Naomi Sharon is holding things down for the label with her “Definition of Love” track.

Our final pick of the week comes from another rising female vocalist, Chxrry22, who’s also backed by one of the biggest names out of Canada, The Weeknd. She shared “More” with us this New Music Friday, and we can’t wait to hear what she has to offer us in the future. Stream all of the latest additions to our R&B Season playlist exclusively on Spotify. Are there any new arrivals that you think we missed? Let us know in the comments, and click the link below for more HNHH release recommendations on our weekly Fire Emoji update.

Quavo Brings The “Rocket Power” To Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update This Week

It’s a big release week for hip-hop albums and singles, and we’re here to ease you through that process with our weekly Fire Emoji playlist update. Whether it was long-awaited projects finally seeing the light of day or surprise drops, there’s a lot to love on this New Music Friday. First off is arguably the largest release this week: Quavo’s new album Rocket Power, dedicated to the late Takeoff’s memory. Unc and Phew reunite on “Patty Cake,” and Quavo started things off with fireworks on the opening track “Fueled Up.” Fans are raving about the tracklist online, picking up new tributes and homages to Take along the way.

Moreover, our Fire Emoji playlist also sums up a lot of the biggest singles this week. Rocket Power collaborator Future also dropped this week, and the Young Scooter collab “Hard To Handle” sees him in top form. Furthermore, Lil Tecca teamed up with Kodak Black for another great collab this week, “HVN ON EARTH,” which is a bit moodier but nonetheless engaging. On the other hand, Lil Durk switches up his vocal delivery a little bit on his new track “F**k U Thought,” bringing down the bombast a bit but still coming through with hard-hitting bars.

As far as anthems you’ll hear on a night out that dropped this week, Mike WiLL Made-It and Lil Uzi Vert linked up and have you covered with “Blood Moon.” On the other hand, Polo G began the rollout for his next album Hood Poet with the emotive and heartfelt “Barely Holdin’ On.” As such, there’s a lot of variety to sink your teeth into this week. After all, you can’t always be in party mode, and fortunately this week doesn’t restrict you to one zone.

Meanwhile, Draft Day, The Alchemist, and Lil Yachty came together for the surprising but excellent “Draft Day” this week. Finally, EST Gee’s new album EL TORO 2 holds no shortage of gritty and punch-packing tracks, most notably “FREE DOGGY” featuring 42 Dugg. If you want to recap the week in rap, check out our Fire Emoji playlist update above. Also, log back into HNHH for the latest great hip-hop releases each week.

Barack Obama’s Year-End Playlist: Does He Listen To It All?

Barack Obama is a cultural icon. The former President stays busy all year long with multiple recommendation lists for the people, including books he read, movies he watched, and songs he had on repeat. However, some have been skeptical about Obama’s wide range of reading, watching, and listening. Some speculate he doesn’t create his own playlist, that someone else listens to these songs and curates them. Not only are the selections so broad, but they also suggest a TON of listening.

Can Barack Obama consume this much content in a year? Believe him when he says: He does it all himself. Comedian Hasan Minaj interviewed the previous POTUS for half an hour on a number of topics, including his end-of-year lists. With emphasis, Obama definitively squashed the rumors of cultural fraud: “…[T]he fact that my lists are, you know, pretty incredible — people seem to think, well, he must’ve had some 20-year-old intern who was figuring out this latest cut. No, man! It’s on my iPad right now.”

Barack Obama’s Current Lifestyle

Once you’ve done “the big job,” life can become what you want it to be, in a way. For Barack Obama, this means going to events, consuming a ton of new content, and accepting fun interview requests. Minaj gets deep and wide in the interview above, asking Obama about depression, doom-scrolling, and his take on Andrew Tate. With classic Obama wit and a grumbly, loving uncle demeanor, he brushes off any “controversy” that he doesn’t curate his own playlist. Last year’s list had all-time hits like Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5” and Bad Bunny’s “Titi Me Pregunto,” as well as “Last Last” by Burna Boy and “Pull Up” by Koffee.

We might need to give Barack Obama more street cred. Impressively, he and his wife, Michelle Obama, wrote a letter to rapper Cordae following his Emmy win last year. Their daughters are part of the hip-hop scene as well. Malia Obama created a short film for Donald Glover’s (Childish Gambino’s) production company. Plus, he’s never shied away from being a true man of the people. Barack Obama’s track record should be enough for us to trust his tracklist.

Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama” Fires Up Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

In an incredibly stacked week for music, maybe it seemed hard to wade through releases to find the best new R&B. However, big drops from a lot of rising and established stars made that hardly the case, but we rounded them all up for this week’s R&B Season playlist in the event that you missed anything. Moreover, we had a lot of albums and EPs in particular to talk about and highlight, plus a few singles that have us excited for these artists’ next full-length moves. First up is Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama,” a confident and soulful cut to add to her great repertoire. The gorgeous horns, wavy guitar, funky bass, and the singer’s own melodic and harmonic excellence make this a great journey of a track to sink into that undergoes a lot of progression.

In addition, we also had another single this week, but one that leans more into classic R&B sounds and melodies. ASTN and Alex Vaughn came through for a sultry duet titled “How Soon,” accentuated with soft guitar plucks and a slow snap beat that eventually works in some trap-like hi-hats. Furthermore, the two artists show a lot of chemistry towards the latter half of the song. They ask us how soon is too soon to move on from a past love, and it’s a more comforting track than that subject matter suggests.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist

Next up are a few great projects that dropped over the week. For example, there’s Ambré’s who’s loving you? EP, a collection of five pretty varied tracks that go beyond what’s considered traditional R&B. Specifically, we had to highlight the track “MUSE FREESTYLE” for its atmosphere, excellent vocal performance, and creatively put-together beat. In fact, Ambré also appeared on PHABO’s latest album Don’t Get Too Cozy, which came out this week as well. We recommend the cut “Luv Songs (Unruly)” for its sensual production and versatile leading vocals from the San Diego-born artist.

Finally, there’s Kiana Ledé’s album Grudges, which is chock-full of standouts and inviting tunes. While there are many to pick from, we think “Gone” with Bryson Tiller is a funky and immediate addition to any summer vibes playlist. Also, if you want to hear the Arizona native tackle a more traditional instrumental, “LMK” is right there waiting for you. Let us know what was you favorite R&B release of the week in the comments below. As always, come back to HNHH for more updates on the latest great music each week.

Gunna & More Bring Us Only Gifts With Bangers On Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update

This week had a lot of big music releases to go through, so it’s a good thing that we compiled the best of the best on our latest Fire Emoji playlist update. This Saturday (June 17), we brought you a whole album’s worth of material to dive into. Speaking of albums, there are too many highlights on Gunna’s latest, a Gift & a Curse to name, but we thought “rodeo dr,” “ca$h $hit,” and the music video-assisted “back to the moon” were particularly solid. Another great album to drop this week was Killer Mike’s powerful MICHAEL, and the track “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS” featuring Eryn Allen Kane, Future, and none other than André 3000 is a potent slice of its greatness. What’s more is that there might be more Mike and Dre in the future, but only time will tell.

Moving on, there’s the measured “Attention” from Doja Cat, ushering in her new album era and what fans believe is a different and exciting approach. Not only does it have critical acclaim, but it became the second-highest Spotify global streaming debut for a single by a female rapper. Next is Gucci Mane’s “Bluffin’” with Lil Baby, quite the ATL team-up where you see the city’s effortless talent run from generation to generation. Baby also appeared on “Shoe Box,” a taster from Kap G’s latest full-length, HorHey.

Of course, we have to mention the new Trippie Redd single with his girlfriend Skye Morales, “Took My Breath Away.” Compared to his previous rage-centric album, it seems like A Love Letter To You 5 will return to his moodier and more genre-fusing tendencies- but with some solid rapping, to boot. Coi Leray’s dropping an album soon, too, and “Run It Up” is one of its last teaser cuts before release. In addition, the prolific NBA YoungBoy appears on RJAE’s YOU’RE THE PROBLEM on the song “Too Gone.”

Meanwhile, DDG tapped BIA and NLE Choppa for a buttery remix of the track “I’m Geekin.” Last but certainly not least, Mike Dimes and Denzel Curry are absolutely monstrous on “ARSENAL,” a standout from the former’s new project TEXAS BOY. What was your favorite song or album to drop this week? Let us know in the comments and, as always, come back to HNHH for more great new music.

Yeat & Young Thug Highlight New “Fire Emoji” Update

The newest edition of HotNewHipHop’s weekly Fire Emoji is here to carry you through the weekend with the hottest tracks of the last seven days. Among the newest additions are songs by Yeat and Young Thug, Lil Durk, Diddy and City Girls, as well as several more.

As for Lil Durk, his highly-anticipated new album, Almost Healed, finally dropped this week after a delay, earlier this month. The project boasts collaborations with J. Cole, Future, Morgan Wallen, and more. As for the Fire Emoji playlist, his songs “War Bout It,” featuring 21 Savage, “Pelle Coat,” and “Grandson,” featuring Kodak Black all made the cut. He’s one of the most-featured artists on the playlist for this week along with Kodak Black, who just dropped his new album, Pistols & Pearls.

Pistols & Pearls sees Kodak work with EST GEE, Loe Shimmy, Lil Crix, and more. For Fire Emoji, the track “Dope Boy Magic” from the project gets a slot as does “Gunsmoke Town.” When he announced the project, Kodak hinted that it would be his last with Atlantic Records. “THANX to EVERYONE THATS BEEN ON THIS JOURNEY WITH ME LUVIN & THUGGIN!” he wrote on social media at the time. “I COULDNT FIND PEACE WITHOUT ALL THE VIOLENCE @atlanticrecords It’s Been Well !!! Nothing But Gratitude & The Utmost Respect.”

As for Yeat and Young Thug’s collaboration, “My Wrist,” it arrives as the YSL rapper is in jail for conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Future came forward on social media, this week, to share a “Free Slime” shirt in support of his longtime collaborator. Thug has been in jail since May 2022, when he and 29 other people associated with YSL were arrested on gang-related charges.

In recent weeks, many more top artists have been shouted out on Fire Emoji. KAYTRAMINÉ, Symba, Kevin Gates, Killer Mike, and NBA YoungBoy, among others, have all made the cut. Check out last week’s update to the Fire Emoji playlist below.

Brent Faiyaz “Fell In Love” With Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update This Week

This week’s R&B Season playlist update has a couple of new singles, a few new projects, and a whole lot of soul. Moreover, our first update of May is helping us say goodbye to spring and usher in a hot and exciting summer for new music. Leading the way is the latest single from Brent Faiyaz, who worked with Marshmello to bring us the wavy “Fell In Love.” Over plucky bass, breezy vocal harmonies, and a more electronic feel by way of the EDM star’s contributions, Brent shines as a crooner and storyteller. It might be a short track, but it’s deliciously sweet in its run.

Next up is R&B legend Omarion, who just dropped his latest album Full Circle: Sonic Book 1. Of course, the project has plenty of highlights, be it the similarly sweet “Candy” or the Riley-assisted “Waiting.” However, we decided to highlight “Girls,” an infectiously funky and fun-loving track. Not only does the star soothe listeners with his melodies and vocal tone, but he also amps it up throughout the cut as well. It just goes to show his versatility and ability to showcase many different lanes at once.

Jhené Aiko’s Meditative New Single Lands On The HNHH R&B Season Playlist

In addition, Jhené Aiko just released her second single of the year following “calm & patient,” increasing hype for her next full-length project. Furthermore, “alive & well (gratitude mantra)” keeps up her previous song’s naming convention while sticking to her mystical strengths. With an angelic vocal delivery and atmospheric pads in the background, the song is more of an experience than just a regular single. Oh, and I forgot to mention: it’s ten minutes long. Aiko reached into her ambient bag, and pulled out a serene soundscape with ease.

Meanwhile, rounding out our update is Reggie Becton, who infused the playlist with a groovy and hard-hitting drum beat. He just dropped Sadboy, Vol. 1, an eight-song offering whose title track landed on our collection. Also, there’s “Pain, no Percocet” on Zenesoul’s latest single, which is as sultry and smooth as R&B jams get. However, we’re sure we missed something; what did you think was the best R&B release of the week? Let us know in the comments and check the playlist out down below as well. As always, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on R&B songs and their artists each week.

Drake, Lil Yachty, & More Highlight New “Fire Emoji” Update

Drake, Lil Yachty, and Joey Bada$$ kick off the star-studded new update to HotNewHipHop’s Fire Emoji playlist. With Drake, his song, “Search & Rescue,” leads the way while Joey provides “Fallin’” and Yachty contributes “Strike (Holster).” Other artists to land spots on the newest Fire Emoji include NBA YoungBoy, Conway the Machine, and more.

With Drake’s newest song, the cover art notably features a lookalike of Kim Kardashian. He previously sampled Kanye West’s ex-wife during a snippet of a recent song titled “Rescue Me.” “I didn’t come this far just to come this far and not be happy. Remember that,” she says in an audio clip taken from Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The song comes as Drake prepares to hit the road for his upcoming It’s All A Blur tour with 21 Savage. The Toronto rapper previously collaborated with 21 Savage on their album, Her Loss, in 2022. They also performed together at Harlem’s Apollo Theater.

As for Yachty, his single, “Strike (Holster),” comes as his first rap song since taking a psychedelic-rock turn on his 2023 album Let’s Start Here. A snippet of the song first emerged last year and it’s been a highly-requested release from his fans in the time since. It arrives despite Yachty recently remarking to Billboard, “Fuck any of the albums I dropped before this one.” He later clarified on Twitter that he meant no disrespect to rap. “It’s not about respecting rap, it’s about being respected as more than a rapper,” he said. “I create music in more than just that lane.”

In recent weeks, several songs from the deluxe version of Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, made the Fire Emoji cut. Juice WRLD’s posthumous single, “The Light,” also was highlighted, as well as multiple songs off of JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown’s recent collaborative album, Scaring The Hoes. Check out the latest edition of Fire Emoji below.

The Fire Emoji Playlist

Tyler, The Creator Dominates Latest “Fire Emoji” Update

Tyler, The Creator secured three of the seven new tracks added to this week’s edition of HotNewHipHop’s Fire Emoji playlist. The songs derive from the deluxe version of his latest album, Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale. Other artists to land spots on the newest Fire Emoji include Gucci Mane, Quavo, Nardo Wick, and more.

With Tyler, The Creator, his tracks, “DOGTOOTH,” “STUNTMAN,” and “WHARF TALK” cracked the list. On the latter two songs, Tyler teams up with Vince Staples and A$AP Rocky respectively. The original version of Call Me If You Get Lost released back in June 2021. It went on to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album, marking Tyler’s second time winning the category.

Moving past Tyler, Quavo contributed to the playlist with his new song, “Honey Bun.” On the track, he alludes to the death of his Migos partner, Takeoff. “I don’t wanna hear no sorry for my loss,” he raps. He also promoted “Honey Bun” with the hashtag “#ForTake.” Takeoff was shot and killed outside of a Houston bowling alley back in November. In the months since, both Quavo and Offset have been mourning the late rapper.

With Gucci Mane’s contribution, he teamed up with DaBaby and 21 Savage for the song, “06 Gucci.” “I feel like it’s me in ’06 and ’07, ’08, and even ’09/ Still hard to kill, the last n***a tried, go ask him, he didn’t survive,” he raps on the song. For the accompanying music video, he recreated several iconic looks from projects like The Trap House and the video “My Kitchen.” For Nardo Wick’s part, he collaborated with Lil Baby for “Hot Boy.” Larry June’s “Summer Reign” featuring “Ty Dolla $ign” also lands on the playlist.

In recent weeks, Juice WRLD’s posthumous single, “The Light,” made the cut, as well as multiple songs off of JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown’s recent collaborative album, Scaring The Hoes. Check out the latest edition of Fire Emoji below.
