Playboi Carti’s Set At Smoker’s Club Fest Was Reportedly Cut Short When Fans Rushed The Barricades

Playboi Carti shows are known to get a little rowdy. As a member of the so-called “SoundCloud Rap” movement of the past decade, the Atlanta rapper has blended certain punk sensibilities with his nihilistic, aggressive performance style, resulting in a general vibe of recklessness and mosh-pit antics at his live shows. However, in the wake of a certain recent festival tragedy, venues and promoters have proven much less forgiving of this sort of energy — as recently demonstrated by a recent festival, San Bernardino’s Smoker’s Club Fest.

According to the New York Post, Playboi Carti’s evening set was cut short when members of the crowd tried to jump the barricades to the VIP section just two songs in. The crowd also pushed forward, causing a potentially dangerous scene in the front of the audience much like the infamous incident at Astroworld Festival last year. However, unlike that situation, the festival’s organizers were able to get control of the chaos, cutting Carti’s mic and urging the audience to back up or the show wouldn’t continue.

A number of fans expressed their disappointment in the situation, but I’ve seen toddlers pitch fits over being stopped from touching hot stoves, so kudos to the fest’s organizers for getting a handle on things before they could escalate to injuries or worse. Check out more videos and fan responses below.

Fans Rush Stage, Abruptly Ending Playboi Carti Concert

Playboi Carti

As the world returns to normal and in-person concerts pick back up just in time for the summer, it seems that many of the same problems that have plagued other concerts in the past seem to persist. This weekend, Playboi Carti‘s performance at the Smokers Club Festival in San Bernardino on Saturday.

The issues started when a group of people attempted to rush the VIP section of the performance, but were quickly stopped by security. However, Instagram video footage shows the crows pressing forward against a barrier.

Carti’s mic was cut shortly after taking the stage at about 7 pm and Instagram footage shows a security staff member takes over the PA system and asks for fans to move back, which they do not do.

Carti had performed just two songs before his set was cancelled.

No serious injuries were reported and no arrests were made. The caution appears to have come following the tragic deaths of those at the Astroworld festival in fall of 2021.

Other notable acts who performed at the event include A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, and more.

Playboi Carti Says His Next Album Will Be Titled ‘Music’ Because ‘That’s All It Is At This Point’

Playboi Carti’s last project arrived on Christmas Day in 2020. It was highly anticipated Whole Lotta Red, a project that fans of the rapper spent quite a while waiting for. Constant delays and setbacks caused many to doubt that the project would ever arrive. Thankfully it did, and now, after a little over a year, it’s time to focus on Carti’s next body of work. During an interview with XXL, Carti revealed some details about his upcoming project and also opened up about his personal life.

“I was about to name my album Music because that’s where I’m at, you know what I’m saying? Music,” Carti said during the interview. When asked if he had a title for the upcoming project, Carti confirmed that it would be Music because “that’s all it is at this point.” Carti later revealed what topics were “important” for him to discuss on the project.

“Love. Sex. Drugs. Changes in my life,” he replied. “I’ve been rapping about going to rehab. I want to go to rehab because I think I’m bipolar. I want everybody to feel free. I want this album to make everyone feel free. I hope this album brings peace to the world, honestly.” He added, “I’m in love with what I’m doing. Like I told you, you can’t put a genre alternative [on me]. My little brother told me that all the time.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Carti took a moment to show love to Iggy Azalea, the mother of his first child Onyx. Despite their past issues, Carti had nothing but kind words for Azalea. “Iggy, she’s a great mom. I love her to death,” he said. “I’m single. She’s single now. But that’s one of the best mothers in the world. And that’s what you got to put in the book, you hear me? I love her to death. She is the best mother in the world.”

Post Malone, Playboi Carti, And Gunna With Young Thug Are Headlining Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash Fest

When music festivals started making their slow return last year, Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash welcomed 90,000 people to Chicago’s Douglass Park in August. The fest put on by hip-hop tastemakers Lyrical Lemonade and production company SPKRBX has grown into the biggest hip-hop festival in the Midwest. Now moving back to its usual mid-June weekend dates (17th – 19th), the 2022 edition’s lineup has some serious heavy-hitters at the top in Post Malone, Playboi Carti, and the first every collaborative performance from Gunna and Young Thug.

“We’ve leveled up the entire experience,” said Festival Director Berto Solorio in a statement. “We can’t wait to show our fans what we have in store this summer including bigger music acts performing on bigger stages, plus more food trucks, improved amenities, and more art installations than ever before.”

They’ve certainly delivered on today’s complete lineup drop, which is also set to feature performances from Wiz Khalifa, Polo G, Trippie Redd, 2 Chainz, Ski Mask Tha Slump God, Yeat, G Herbo, Rico Nasty, Key Glock, Lil Tecca, Key Glock, and a lot more in a thorough three-day slate. If there’s one knock, it’s the complete absence of gender parity among these talented names. But so it goes with most hip-hop festivals. Regardless, check out the lineup poster below.

Summer Smash tickets go on sale on Friday 04/08 at 10 am CST at TheSummerSmash.com.
