Over the past few days, fans and musicians have honored Tina Turner and thanked her for her influence across a multitude of genres and generations. The Queen Of Rock ‘N Roll died this past Wednesday (May 24), but her music lives on, and will continue to do so.
On Thursday, Paramore performed in Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena. During a performance of “Told You So” from their 2017 album, After Laughter, lead vocalist Hayley Williams incorporated a portion of one of Turner’s signature songs, “What’s Love Got To Do With It” into the outro.
Fans who were in attendance at the show noted that Williams hailed Turner as an inspiration for her craft, saying “I would’ve never thought I could be in a band like Paramore if it wasn’t for Tina Turner.”

Williams also paid tribute to Turner on her Instagram story after news broke of her death.
“rest in peace to the queen who showed me you can be a soul singer and a punk singer at the same time,” Williams wrote. “I will sing for you forever.”
The 2023 Hangout Music Festival will be headlined by Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and SZA this weekend “on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama,” as billed by the fest. Calvin Harris, Lil Nas X, Flume, Skrillex, and The Kid Laroi will also perform between this Friday, May 19, and Sunday, May 21.
The full schedule with everyone’s set times was shared by Hangout Fest on March 31, but here’s a refresher course now that it’s finally nearly time.
Gates will open at 11 a.m. local time for all three days. The festival boasts six stages: Hangout, Shein Surf Stage, Boom, Mermaid, Monster Beach Club, and Malibu Beach House. Each day will spread 26 artists’ sets across them.
May 19 will be headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers, beginning at 9:30 p.m., on the Hangout stage. Ahead of that set, Lil Nas X can be seen on the Shein Surf Stage from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Thundercat will handle the Mermaid stage from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. The Boom stage will host GloRilla from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., and Russ will perform at Hangout from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
On Saturday, May 20, SZA’s headlining set is slotted for 9:45 p.m. on the Hangout stage. Paramore will perform on the Shein Surf Stage from 8:45 to 9:45 p.m. Flume is slated for a 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. set on Hangout, just as Sabrina Carpenter (6:45 to 7:45 p.m.) finishes on the Shein Surf Stage. Saturday’s other artists include AJR (5:30 to 6:45 p.m.), Kidd G (1:30 to 2:30 p.m.), Ferg (8:15 to 9:15 p.m.), and more.
The party will wrap on Sunday, May 21, with Calvin Harris (9:30 p.m.) and The Kid Laroi (7:30 to 8:30 p.m.) on the Hangout stage, while Shein Surf Stage hosts Skrillex (8:30 to 9:30 p.m.), Ashnikko (6:30 to 7:30 p.m.), and Noah Kahan (4:30 to 5:30 p.m.). Kevin Gates is slated for the Boom stage from 8 to 9 p.m..

The schedule is overwhelming at first glance, so we’ll lay out the basic must-knows.
There will be six stages: What Stage, Which Stage, The Other Stage, This Tent, That Tent, and Who Stage. Opening night will be anchored by the likes of Liquid Stranger from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. local time, Zeds Dead (12:45 to 2 a.m.), Big Freedia (1:30 to 2:30 a.m.), and Silent Disco (midnight to 3:30 a.m.). Silent Disco will hold that slot on Friday and Saturday as well.
Friday’s headliner will be Lamar, scheduled to perform on the What Stage from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The What Stage will also host Baby Keem (8:45 to 9:45 p.m.), Portugal The Man (6:45 to 7:45 p.m.), Muna (4:45 to 5:45 p.m.), and AFI (3 to 4 p.m.). The Which Stage will host Rina Sawayama (5:45 to 6:45 p.m.), Three 6 Mafia (7:45 to 8:45 p.m.), and plenty others.
On Saturday, Odesza’s headlining set is scheduled for 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the What Stage, which will also be home for Lil Nas X (8:45 to 10 p.m.), Rainbow Kitten Surprise (6:45 to 7:45 p.m.), Sheryl Crow (4:45 to 5:45 p.m.), and Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness (3 to 4 p.m.). Korn will take on the This Tent from 12:45 a.m. to 2 a.m., while JID will perform on the That Tent from 1 to 2 a.m.
Sunday will welcome Foo Fighters to the What Stage from 9:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. — preceded by Paramore (7:15 to 8:30 p.m.) — while Marcus Mumford (8:15 to 9:15 p.m.) handles the Which Stage. Alesso (8:15 to 9:30 p.m.) can be found on The Other Stage, Jacob Collier (7:45 to 9 p.m.) at the This Tent, Pixies (8:15 to 9:30 p.m.) at the That Tent, and Jana Horn (7:45 to 8:30 p.m.) on the Who Stage.

Foo Fighters are set to headline this year, and now we know exactly when. Boston Calling revealed all set times for the May 26-28 event at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Boston, if the latter detail wasn’t already obvious enough in the festival’s title.
Foo Fighters will be preceded on the Green Stage by The National (5:55-6:55 p.m.), Leon (3:45-4:40 p.m.), and The Beaches (2:20-2:55 p.m.).
The Happy Valley Red Stage will be handled by Alisa Amador (1:45-2:15 p.m.), Celisse (3-3:50 p.m.), Chelsea Cutler (4:45-5:45 p.m.), and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (7:05-8:35 p.m.). Anybody who thought the vinyl resurgence was just a fad was mistaken: The industry has experienced a legitimate revival. As a result, music fans are interested in physical media in ways they may not have if the decades-old medium hasn’t made a comeback. That doesn’t mean everybody is listening to just their parents’ old music, though. That’s part of it, sure, thanks to rereleases that present classic albums in new ways. A vital part of the renewed vinyl wave, though, is new projects being released as records, of which there are plenty.
Whatever you might be into, each month brings a new slew of the best new vinyl releases that has something for everybody. Some stand out above the rest, naturally, so check out some of the best vinyl releases of February below.
Whitney Houston — Whitney Houston and Whitney (Reissues)

Whitney Houston’s music is as impactful now as it was when it debuted back in the mid-’80s, so there’s never a bad time for a vinyl reissue. Houston’s first two star-making LPs, Whitney Houston and Whitney, and among the pair is a handful of classic No. 1 singles, like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and “Saving All My Love For You.”
Gorillaz went all out for the vinyl editions of their latest album, Cracker Island. There are a number of them available in the band’s webstore, including some bold picture discs and a deluxe box set that comes with a CD, sticker sheet, poster, notebook, and more.
Neutral Milk Hotel — The Collected Works Of Neutral Milk Hotel

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is the defining Neutral Milk Hotel work, but there’s a ton more worthwhile material beyond that, too. Now, it’s all been collected in a new box set… well sort of new: It was sold before, but only in the band’s online store. The collection includes a bunch of goodies, like a number of 10-inch and 7-inch records, as well as the band’s two albums (the other being On Avery Island) as gatefold LPs.
The Strokes’ early era was one to remember, and their new box set is a fantastic time capsule of it. It brings ten of the band’s singles from their first three albums — Is This It (2001), Room On Fire (2003), and First Impressions Of Earth (2006) — which means rare B-sides from the original releases.
Mötley Crüe — Crücial Crüe: The Studio Albums 1981-1989

Mötley Crüe went hard in the ’80s, dropping a number of platinum albums and iconic singles like “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood.” That decade has been wrapped up in a fresh box set, which compiles all of the band’s peak-era albums into a five-album collection that truly encapsulates a heck of an era.
Depending on where you shop, you’ll find a different pressing of Paramore’s latest album. Target, for example, carries a lovely gold version, while Urban Outfitters has a coral edition of its own and Walmart is keeping it classic with a black pressing.
Naughty By Nature — 19 Naughty III (30th Anniversary Edition)

It’s been 30 years since Naughty By Nature dropped 19 Naughty III (fantastic name for a 1993 album, by the way), and now the group’s celebrating with a reissue. Notable are the six bonus tracks this new release comes with, including the previously unheard extended mix of “Hip Hop Hooray” and remixes from Pete Rock and The Beatnuts.
Kacey Musgraves — Same Trailer Different Park (VMP Reissue)

Kacey Musgraves is a crossover star now, but once upon a time, she had yet to carve out a space in the pop space and was dominating the country scene. Same Trailer Different Park was a striking debut album back in 2013, and for its tenth anniversary, Vinyl Me, Please pressed it on gorgeous “cactus green” vinyl, a fantastic visual complement to the album art’s greenery.
Pearl Jam still sounds as vital(ogy) as ever these days, and perhaps in a “time flies” example for some readers, the band’s 1998 album Yield turns 25 years old this year. Naturally, there’s a new vinyl reissue, and it’s pressed, as press materials note, “on 2LPs for the very first time on 180g translucent red & black hi-melt vinyl in a double gatefold, direct-to-board and die cut jacket.” It doesn’t ship until this summer, but we have a feeling that it will go fast.
Truth Is Where It’s At — A Gospel Truth Collection

Vinyl Me, Please is shining a light on The Gospel Truth Records, a 1972 gospel imprint on Stax Records, with a new box set. The release highlights a number of releases from a number of artists: The Rance Allen Group by The Rance Allen Group, Jesus People by Maceo Woods and The Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir, A Tribute to Mahalia Jackson by Louise McCord, Whatever Happened To Love by Clarence Smith, The Gospel Artistics by The Gospel Artistics, and Blue Aquarius by Blue Aquarius.
A week-plus into 2023, the precursor to festival season has begun: festival lineup announcement season. Today (January 10), one of North America’s premiere annual events, Bonnaroo, has unveiled its lineup.
The fest runs from June 15 to 18 in Manchester, Tennessee, and leading the opening day on Thursday the 15th are Zeds Dead and Liquid Stranger. Heading up the first full day on Friday the 16th is Kendrick Lamar, while Odesza headlines on Saturday the 17th and Foo Fighters close out the event with a headlining slot on Sunday the 18th.

Beginning his career in alternative R&B, Lacy shifted to an indie rock-influenced sound with his breakout single, “Bad Habit.” When asked by journalist Shaad D’Souza about this genre blending, Lacy replied, “I’ve always loved doing that — if I have a rocky beat, putting a soulful melody on it. Like ‘Dark Red’ and all those types of songs. It’s a way to play and introduce new ideas into things that we know already.”
He later added, “Growing up playing [the video game] Guitar Hero put me on to a lot of rock and guitar music. As I got older, artists such as Paramore raised me. Mac DeMarco, Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend. Even Weezer’s ‘Undone’ is one of my favorite songs ever.”
The singer did not hold back from gushing about Paramore’sHayley Williams, sharing, “Hayley’s voice and melodies are crazy because she takes the rock thing and makes it soulful.”
As for what he loves about Weezer, Lacy said, “With Weezer, I love the wit and humor. The dissonance of the chord progression of ‘Undone’ is truly just weird. For something like that to exist was super important for me in my musical journey, to be, like: ‘Oh, wow, you can make this sound fun and dope.’”
Other muses of Lacy include late musical icons Prince and Jimi Hendrix. “When I make music, I take a small piece of everything that I love – I’ll take certain melodic approaches from Prince, but I’ll play it as if someone else was mimicking Prince, like if Jimi Hendrix tried to be Prince,” he said. “But I like to mix different approaches together. It happens naturally. I’m never doing it all purposely. It’s just inside of me.”
Lacy concluded his inspiration list by shouting out about indie act Faye Webster, calling her “dope.”

In its over a decade of existence, Hangout Festival has risen among the most notable mega music festivals in the South. Taking place on the glistening beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, it’s a quintessential summer starter fest (they even have a stageside swimming pool) boasting a loaded lineup year in and year out. For 2023, Hangout Fest is coming in hot with the newly announced headlining slate of SZA, Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Calvin Harris. Both SZA and Paramore will be riding the high off of their new albums, S.O.S.and This Is Why, respectively. But the buck doesn’t stop there.

SZA hinted at collaborating with Paramore’s Hayley Williams on Twitter, Tuesday, exciting fans at the idea. The post comes ahead of the release of SZA’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, S.O.S.
“I talk to her more than you’d think lol,” SZA replied to a fan who had asked about Williams.

While she hinted at working with Williams down the road, she won’t be featured on S.O.S. SZA revealed the tracklist for the album, earlier this week. The project features Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, and more artists.
Hayley Williams has also been active musically as of late. She and the rest of Paramore are gearing up to release their first album in nearly six years with This Is Why. The project is due out on February 10, 2023.
As for when Williams and SZA could collaborate is unclear. The TDE singer previously admitted that she doesn’t “see longevity” in her music career.
“I feel like music, in this capacity, I don’t see longevity,” she told Billboard. “I like to create, I like to write, I like to sing, and I like to share. But I don’t know if chasing after superstardom or whatever I’m supposed to be doing right now is sustainable for me or for anybody. I’mma take a good swing at it, and I’mma give ’em my absolute best.”
She further added: “I only do what I want to do, and this makes me feel free and safe and unrestricted.”
SZA’s S.O.S. will be arriving on Friday, December 9. The project will be her first since 2017’s Ctrl.

This year’s Austin City Limits line-up is stacked with several exciting acts. Upon returning to Austin’s Zilker Park for its annual celebration of live music, ACL has a promising group of headliners.
Taking place over the course of three days for two consecutive weekends, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chicks, Pink, SZA, Kacey Musgraves, Flume, Paramore, and Lil Nas X will headline both the weekends of October 7 to 9 and October 14 to 16. Texas fans of Lil Nas X will be elated to see the “Industry Baby” rapper live after the initial announcement of his Montero tour didn’t include any Texas dates, due to the fact that his “ex lives out there.”
