North West’s Early Halloween Costume Drew Inspiration From Her Father, Kanye West’s Famous ‘Graduation’ Bear

On Friday, October 27, Kanye West‘s daughter North took to her official joint TikTok page (shared with her mother, Kim Kardashian) to reveal her Halloween costume to the world. In a series of videos, she be seen cheerfully dancing in a replica of her father’s famous Dropout Bear (more commonly referred to by fans as the Graduation era bear), to the strains her father’s 2007 songs “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” featuring Jeezy and “I Wonder” off his album Graduation, as well as Estelle’s 2008 song “American Boy,” in which West is featured.

From the leatherman jacket, blinged-out Jesus piece, and a luxury gold watch, North nailed the nostalgic look.

Kanye West’s love for fashion pre-dates his Adidas or Gap collaborations. However, once he found success following his breakthrough single, “Through The Wire,” he ushered several trends into hip-hop, including preppy chic. The Dropout bear is a symbol from that era.

During an interview with Fake Shore Drive in 2021, the symbol’s creator, Sam Hansen, spoke about the mascot’s inspiration. “I’m a Polo head, and I knew Kanye was also, so I was like, yo, we could flip this bear on some Polo sh*t but make it a little more sporty,” said Hansen. “And so I have this sketch. I remember just kind of, like, on a piece of paper, putting sad eyes and sketching out and making it look more collegiate and putting a thick stroke around it, and that’s what we did. … We took the head off the picture of the cover and turned that [into the logo].”

The 46-year-old has undergone no shortage of creative changes throughout his career, including a shift from experimental hip-hop to gospel music. Thankfully, through it all, the embattled artist knows he can always count on the support of his biggest fan – North West. As the eldest daughter of Kanye and Kim Kardashian, the young nepo baby has obviously had the most time to build a strong bond with her parents, as well as dive into her family patriarch’s discography.

We’ve already seen North pay homage to her dad with fashion choices in the past. Despite going her separate ways from West, Kardashian has made a point to hold onto the rapper’s old clothing for their four children to take inspiration from, and eventually one day wear. Rather than just trying to channel Ye’s signature swagger for Halloween, North proved that she’s done her homework by donning the bear costume previously made famous in his Graduation era.

On the joint TikTok page she shares with her mom, the 10-year-old posted some videos showing off her outfit while singing along to some of West’s biggest hits. Among songs she’s already learning the lyrics to are “American Boy” with Estelle and “I Wonder,” both of which are taking us back in time thanks to her heartwarming posts. Even if Ye is currently spending some of his time in Europe with Bianca Censori and his closest collaborators, it’s clear North is doing what she can to still feel close to him at this time.

As he continues to work on his latest musical endeavours, Kanye West has been keeping a relatively low profile lately. However, the father of four was the subject of an expose in the New York Times earlier this week, specifically reflecting on more of his troubling anti-Semitic behaviour. North West Has Dyslexia, 10-Year-Old Shares Her Diagnosis On TikTok

During a recent TikTok live stream, 10-year-old North West revealed that she’s been diagnosed with dyslexia. “Guys, I have dyslexia,” she told viewers. “Do you even know what that is?” Her mom, Kim Kardashian, made note of how open she was being during the livestream. “Northie, you are sure spilling the tea on here,” she explained.

While North seemed to have no problem sharing that she has dyslexia, her mother ended the stream shortly after the reveal. According to her, she makes a conscious effort to keep her children’s personal issues out of the spotlight. “I am going to get off this Live right now because you are just saying way too much,” she said. “I purposely don’t talk about stuff that you are going through.” North is certainly no stranger to TikTok, and this isn’t the first time Kim intervened after feeling like she went too far.

Over the summer, the SKIMS founder admitted that after North shared a video dancing along to Ice Spice’s track with PinkPantheress, “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2,” she decided to take the video down. “The Ice Spice videos, she said, ‘Mommy, can I post this?’” Kim recalled. “I was out of town, so I had my… nanny was there [and] allowed it. And as soon as I saw the words and everything, I was like, ‘Oh, no no. We’re taking this down.’ She totally understood. So, I think that’s the trial and error sometimes.”

Kim went on to reference North’s father, Kanye West, claiming that he didn’t want his daughter on the app. “And, you know, then I saw on the Internet, it’s like, ‘Kanye was right.’ You know? And maybe he was, you know?” she explained. “In that instance. But in the creative side where she loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, I will fight for her to be creative in those ways. So, it’s always a compromise. North West was able to get Kim Kardashian to join in on a TikTok in a post from last week. In the video, they perform a mix of viral dance moves. The clip has been viewed over one million times.

When The Shade Room shared the post on Instagram, fans had mixed responses to Kim’s parenting. “Kim Is pushing 50 and is getting weird that she actively tries to fit in with her daughter and her friends,” one user wrote. Another added: “Ma leave Kim alone after this, but shorty got rich off of black culture originally, least you can do is have rhythm.” As for more supportive users, one commented: “Im so happy her parents keep her hair done in cute black girl styles. theres nothing worse than celebrities with black/mixed children & their hair be all over their heads.”

Kim has addressed the polarizing nature of North’s TikTok posts before, even taking down one of her videos in which she lip-syncs to Ice Spice and PinkPantheress’ “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2.” “As soon as I saw the words, I was like, ‘Oh no, we’re taking this down,’” Kardashian admitted to Time magazine at the time. She added that she was out of town when North asked for permission to post the clip. “I saw on the internet, [people saying] ‘Kanye was right,’ and maybe he was in that instance, but she loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, and I will fight for her to be creative.”

North West may only be 10 years old, but the young girl was famous before she was even born. When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced they were expecting their first child together, no one could have ever expected the rollercoaster that life would take them on over the next decade. Though they couldn’t quite see eye-to-eye in terms of their marriage, the pair have been doing their best to successfully co-parent North and her three siblings, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. In the past, they came to blows due to their eldest’s desire to post content on TikTok. While Ye was initially against his daughter being on the platform, she and Kim continue to post videos together on their shared account for the world’s entertainment.

On Monday (September 25), @kimandnorth lit up with a new video of the mother-daughter duo altering their appearance with the use of filters. The tween and the 42-year-old both revealed what they’d look like if their faces were covered in tattoos while comfortably lounging at home. Of course, Kardashian once compared the idea of her getting inked to putting “a bumper sticker on a Bentley,” so it’s unlikely we’ll see her sporting a piece anytime soon. North, on the other hand, could take after her father when she’s old enough to make more permanent decisions about her body.

Apart from that video, the reality starlet and North also put together a vlog from their day out at Kourtney Kardashian’s baby shower. The Poosh founder is expecting her first son with Travis Barker, and recently underwent emergency fetal surgery to save the fetus’ life. Thankfully, she seems to have made a full recovery in time to host her Disney-themed event.

Kim and her partner-in-crime wore coordinated Chanel outfits for the function, the former in a bright yellow vintage button-up while North rocked a coral colour in the same design. Both wore their dark hair up in high ponytails and embraced the cooler fall weather with sharp black leather pants.

In the comments of a repost of the video, some fans tried to critique the work or claim that it was faked. The mother-daughter duo were recently spotted clutching some designer bags while exiting the Kardashian’s private jet. The mother of four was sporting a sleek, all-black ensemble. Whereas North showed some love to her dad’s home team with a Chicago Bulls tee paired with jeans.

Kim coordinated her high-end, all-black look with a black crocodile Hermès Kelly bag. The luxury bag is a favorite among the rich and famous. Typically, a Hermès bag retails over $40,000, Page Six reports. However, North seems to opt for a more colorful choice. The 10-year-old was sporting a vintage Louis Vuitton travel bag with a cherry print.

The publication also reported that the pair returned from a girls’ trip to Japan. The reality star recently shared some BTS footage of their recent expedition. Similar to her father, North’s eccentric style was all on display. The young girl was photographed sporting two Rapunzel-style braids and a custom kimono while immersing herself in the local culture.

The pair seems to have had a blast with one another. North even took things a step further and decided to channel her dad’s early 00s style. In a TikTok video posted to her account, North pulled some inspiration from one of Kanye’s early interviews. The tween skipped through the streets of Tokyo wearing a green button-up shirt under a classic striped orange and blue polo and jeans. She was also seen lip-syncing to Estelle’s smash hit “American Boy.” Ironically, the song features Ye and discusses Estelle’s desire to meet a man who can take her around the world. It’s similar to how Kim and North traveled to an unfamiliar place across the globe.
